Eureka

I've got Eureka plug-ins, and very good they were too before I upgraded to Snow Leopard!
Any suggestions for getting them to work, as updates don't seem to be available?
If not - suggestions for good plug-in libraries, especially for adding film scratches etc?
Thanks.

Google CGM FILM LE for a free plugin that does film effects with scratches and dirt.

well it looks like Apple deleted my last post, probably due to the cursing that i included in the Eureka's email to me. so instead of reposting and getting deleted again, i will just say this: Eureka is bad news. Do not buy their products. It took 24 hours to get what i paid for. They did not send me an email, a password, no support, NOTHING when i purchased. Then, the nxt day they finally sent me an angry email with the WRONG plugins. Then I had to wait the rest of the day for a response, and they sent me the WRONG plug ins again.
Apple supports this company, which is also probably why they deleted my email, but i want you all to know BEWARE OF EUREKA PLUG INS.

My CSS email newsletters look fine in Hotmail. The trick is
    to either -
    1. Use inline CSS, or
    2. Use embedded CSS BELOW the <body> tag.

  • Editing Eureka pluginz

I have the volume 5 eureka plugin. Im trying to manipulate the pleasent filter #4 and drag the points that will seperate the color. In the viewer window in fcp I can see the points, however it will not allow me to simply click and grab the points to where I want them. I have to enter manually on the filter tab. Is there a step I am missing? The whole point of the points is so you can position them where you want. Please help if you can.
    Thanks
    g4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I don't know the filter you speak of, but to manipulate any points within an FCP plugin, you have to click on the little target button in the Filter panel (next to where you can type in the numbers). Then click on the canvas, but don't let go. Now you can move the point around until you release the mouse button.
    Try it. Post back,

If you're installing it correctly (see http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb2/common/article/43543_en.html#N10284), then I'd wager something is wrong with the phone and will need an exchange.

  • Cleaning scrollball on a mighty mouse -EUREKA! i've found an easy solution

gotta hand it to a clerk at my local apple store, this tip is right on the money.
i had problems with the mighty mouse scrollball sticking...not wanting to scroll down. i tried lots of tips i'd read online. i flipped it over, blew on it, wet the ball with a damp rag, ran it upside down on a piece of paper, and could never manage to keep it fixed for more than a few minutes. until this.
take a paper towel and fold it lengthwise one or two times. apply a line of basic rubbing alcohol to the paper towel. unplug the mouse and hold it upside down. using a moderate pressure, roll the scrollball along the moisened area of the paper towel - back and forth and then side to side. in my case, i could see dark streaks of dirt appear on the paper towel. after drying the scrollball off with a clean paper towel, it was good as new. it hasn't scrolled so effortlessly since it was first new.
i'm told any computer-type alcohol wipes will do the trick. this was cheap, easy and for me, effective.
just wanted to pass it along

    Hello drandall
Most likely that Apple Store clerk found that trick here in the Discussion Forum! I not trying to crash your party, but the ol' Rubbing Alcohol Trick® has been around here a long time!

  • Blurry photos -- EUREKA moment !

I just stumbled onto something that seemed to help with the old 'imported photos are blurry' problem. Mac mavens: I'm no expert, so maybe you can weigh in on this and see if this may actually be a solution, or if my hopes will soon be dashed. Maybe this can help solve this problem once and for all.
I'm working on a movie - a kid's DVD that consists entirely of illustrations. Every time I'd import into iMovie HD from iPhoto -- you know what happened. Fuzzy photos. Frustration. You know the drill. Just for the heck of it, I hit 'file', 'new project' -- but this time.. when it asked me for my import source, I changed it from DV to HD 720, then opened another using the HD 1080i setting, and the photos are now CRYSTAL CLEAR. Yes -- crystal clear in iMovie. Please tell me I'm onto something (he asked nervously)

Please tell me I'm onto something (he asked nervously)
Yes and No. Yes, in that both 720p and 1080i projects display a better quality image than does a DV project. In other words, the image looks better in iMovie. And it looks better after exporting to a QuickTime movie that's played on the computer, in part because the image is so much larger than DV.
But since we can't burn HD DVDs — at least not yet — that quality isn't retained when we burn a DVD. The HD gets converted back to ho-hum quality.
There is one advantage to creating HD slideshows. When the day comes we ARE able to burn HD DVDs, your projects will be ready to burn. You'll be able to avoid the embarrassment of watching DV slideshows some day with your grandchildren, and one asking "Grandpa, why do your slideshows look so weird?"

  • The Eureka Moment: Using Backups to 'archive' projects w/o their media

    Hi
I've posted a few discussions re how to rid myself of many projects and snapshots that have accumulated on this feature-length doc, and to my mind and eye seem to be hampering the performance of my 15" MBP 2.66. I've been getting the spinning wheel and elongated pauses while a dropdown window says a bunch of projects and snapshots that are not open and are unwanted are nevertheless being loaded. But I don't want to move or copy the accompanying media.
After pondering this for a good bit, I'm thinking copying and archiving backups to another drive might well be ideal since, I believe, they are the database without the media. And if at some point I decide maybe there was something in a project editing I should reexamine there it will be in the backup which I can open, check  and if desired, copy to my current library.
    Seem reasonable?
    best
    elmer

    Hi elmerlang,
Relying on the automatic backups is not recommended as they are automatically deleted when they are more than several days old. For more information about managing storage locations, please refer to the "Manage storage locations" section of the Final Cut Pro X online user manual below:
Final Cut Pro X Help - Manage Storage Locations - Consolidate media files for a library
    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.1/#ver7db6ffe77
When working in Final Cut Pro X 10.1.2, keep a dedicated event for current projects, and move old projects to another dedicated event. This should also help with performance as you will only load projects when they are needed.
I hope this information helps ....

  • 10.4.7 and 1.1.2 Combo: Eureka!!!

    All,
I can report that the combination nof the above works to help a marginal PB G4 platform by a good 30%+. This is still slow, but really helps. Basic image adjustment in the field is now possible as the controls operate closer to real time with image adjustments. Ideal would be a MBPro but that's later ....
THE REALLY GREAT news is the Quad. No more cracks about my 6600 card ..... it now provides sub-sec. image loads, thumbnails of whatever size are near instantaneous, and in full screen mode, prior and next images are cached in the background so that image to image movement is instant. FANTASTIC improvement.
Vault update was difficult to judge as it is incremental. However, if pushed I would say it was marginally faster but certainly no slower.
What did surprise me was Export Project and Import Project speeds. I don't know what changed, but these are definitely faster!
Apple Development (Aperture and OS X/Core Image). THANK YOU. I truly believe that performance is now where it needed to be for many functions.
Next job is adding enhancements and cameras!
    G.

David, what size monitor do you have? I noticed Mike has a 30" ACD, which one would suppose is the most difficult monitor for a video card to drive.
Performance is very good for me, but I have a higher end graphics card. I don't get beachballs on either of my systems anymore, and the sliders and adjustments are very responsive (much smoother after 1.1.2, although 10.4.7 may have added something).
I'm pretty happy with Aperture now, except for this bug where thumbnails when importing from my Canon 30D don't show up, just gray boxes. Seems common with this camera.
Edit - Never mind... saw you answered the display question already. One test for those with 6600s and 30" displays is to try a smaller resolution, or even better, a smaller monitor. It may also be the reason the MBPs feel so much more responsive than Quads with 6600s and 30" displays. Right now, it looks like the 6600 might be back on the unofficial approved list for 23" displays and lower.

  • EUREKA ZEN TOUCH FAULT FO

Proverb; if you want a job done right do it yourself, because like me you may not get any help from creative.
<FONT face="Comic Sans MS" size=3>Previously my problem was that after downloading an update my computer would not recognise my Zen touch connection, the auto message centre advised re-boot and reload firmware; after deleting every thing on my player I suddenly realised that if the computer could not recognise the player connection how was I going to download new firmware; the answer was of course I could not.
<SPAN> So it was out with the screwdriver to get to the guts of the thing; after checking for dry joints and loose connections on the PCB all seemed ok, the only fault was the micro switch for the player lock was not fully forward so I pushed it forward and reassembled the player and yes it worked the computer recognised the player and I was able to download the new firmware.
<SPAN> So the cause of all the problems I have had was the sliding lock mechanism which was not pushing or pulling the PCB micro switch fare enough not makes a proper contact.
<SPAN> To cure this problem of naff manufacturing I forced a small piece of abs plastic and abs cement into the space between the slider locating lugs to force the two apart and therefore stop the slider from moving side to side which had previously prevented the slider from pushing the micro switch fully forward because it was too floppy in the groove.
<SPAN> This could also be the reason for many other problems as it is critical that the micro switch should be fully functional and in the correct position. Regards to all, Cli've, touchedbyzen. 3.08.06. 23.5hrs.

Thanks for the heads up. Good to know these things when problems arise...

  • Eureka! iPod mini + Mac OS 9 = Virtual PC!

Several months ago my girlfriend bought me an iPod mini as a birthday present. Great gift, except that I am still stuck back in the stone age with as old OS 9 box (beige G3), so compatibility was an issue, as the minis do not support OS 9 or USB 1.1 in any way, shape, or form, purportedly. For a while I was just using her Windows machine to sync my iPod, but I wan't happy with this solution.
I posted a question to this forum about the possibility of running the iPod through Virtual PC with Windows 2000, since that OS is supported. I got a couple of responses that suggested that it wouldn't work, but none of them provided a compelling reason.
Well, to all the naysayers: it works! I finally got up the nerve (and freed up the HD space) to install VPC 5 with Windows 2000 on my old G3. Then, with VPC in the foreground I took a deep breath and plugged in the iPod... and voila! It mounted as a drive in Windows, and I was able to transfer files to it using Anapod Explorer. And it charged the iPod, even though I was using USB 1.1 and received an insufficient power message when I plugged it in with the Mac OS. I was also able to access my iTunes library by setting VPC to mount my Mac volumes as shared volumes for the Windows environment, so I didn't even have to transfer my music to the VPC disk image.
An imperfect solution, to be sure. VPC is still slow as dirt on an old G3, and I experienced several crashes through this process, but I finally achieved a degree of stability that was good enough until I can get a new MacBook. I wasn't able to install iTunes because the version of Win2K I was using needed a massive service update that seemed doomed to failure because of the crashes, but I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't work.
So to anyone else who finds themselves in this situation, I won't make any promises, but this seems to do the trick for me.
Beige G3 Desktop   Mac OS 9.2.x

You can't use an iPod mini with Mac OS 9. First and second generation full-size iPods will work with Mac OS 9's iTunes, as will third generation full-size iPods which are running version 2.0x of the firmware.

  • CD imported to wrong folder organization Album/Artist instead of Artist/Alb

I imported (ripped) a CD and the folder convention iTunes created in my music library was like this:
    AlbumName/ArtistName
    instead of
    ArtistName/AlbumName
How could this happen. I have ripped hundreds of CD's and this is the first time it has happened. I am letting iTuned organize my files.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

Actually I know exactlty what bae77345 is referring to, because I am running into the same problem. Thus my search in the forums.
Usually Ive had no problem in importing a song into iTunes, and changing the song IN iTunes to read as follows.
Name of Song: DAYS `EUREKA OPENING MIX`
    Artist: Anime
Album : Eureka seveN OST 1
    Album artist: FLOW
And the Windown path would look like this
    C:\Documents and Settings\Varxtis\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Anime\Eureka seveN OST 1\1-01 DAYS `EUREKA OPENING MIX`.mp3
    Notice It goes Artist>Album>Song Title
Album Artist would not even be part of the path, which is exactly what I want.
    but now it shows
    C:\Documents and Settings\Varxtis\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\FLOW\Eureka seveN OST 1\1-01 DAYS `EUREKA OPENING MIX`.mp3
Which goes AlbumArtist>Album>Song Title. it doesn't even include the artist as part of the path. How annoying.
It makes a HUGE difference to me because I need everything in "iTunes Music" library in windows to be pathed as Artist>Album: Song Title. I use a different MP3 Player so, it's almost impossible to have half one way (those that have albumartist) and half another (those that don't) BTW, Sorry apple. . .no Offense. I've had and loved an iPod. . . but it died and I got this as a gift.
I never changed any settings, and quite honestly it's been about a month since I had to update my MP3 player music (thus noticing the problem). So, there HAS to be a reason for it to change. And more importantly, a way to change it back.
