European HD 23" cinema display ok for UK market?

Hi there.
Wondering if you can help.
I am considering buying a (cheaper) Apple HD 23" cinema display when I make a trip to Europe in the next few months. Obviously this machine spec will be made for the european electrical voltage system.
If I buy the appropriate UK electrical voltage system lead/pack would the machine work fine here in the UK?
Also if this possible, where can I buy a UK electrical voltage system lead/pack and how much would it cost?
Many thanks
Ross

uh, after re-reading the post, I see that Dave is saying the exact same thing I am. again, second, no need for a transformer, just an adapter.
I'm looking that the power supply for my 30" ACD and it says...
"Input AC 100-240V 2.5A 50-60Hz
Output 24.5V (DC) 6.1A"
which leads me to believe that these power supplies automatically adjust for voltage and frequency, like many, if not most, modern computer gear does. That is, you don't need a voltage converter, but a simple adapter plug that physically allows you to plug into a different receptacle. I personally carry around one of these...

  • Cinema display adapter for Mac Book Pro

I have an old 23" Cinema display. Which adapter do I need to run it from my MacBook Pro purchased May 2008? (I was disappointed when I tried to hook it up with the extant cable)

There are a number of Cinema displays variants and not all have the same video ports. Please look at the back of your display and post the Model code. It should be a 4-digit number preceded by either an "A" or an "M"

  • Where 27" Cinema Display Drivers for Windows 7 x64

I just bought a lovely 27" cinema diplay for my pc today. It works perfectly except that I only see now that Apple has removed the brightness controls from the side on the display like my older 20" had.
Ive tried installing some older bootcamp v3 drivers but I think they are out of date for the newer displays and/or windows7.
Does anyone have any solution to this other than buying a mac and setting the brightness on there each time you want to change it - seems like a bit of a mission...

You need an application called AppleControlPanel.exe. (try Bing.com to find it).
Don't install boot camp when trying to run the application and if you get an error when you run it, put a bootable CD in your computer drive such as the Win7 installation disk or your system restore disc. Then run the application and it should work enough to give you control of the brightness.

  • PLZ  Imac '27' or '30' Inch Cinema Display best for Retouching / Photoshop?

    Hi Everybody,
1st Post, couldn't find a clear answer anywhere.
I have a Macbook Pro 13 and was about to upgrade my 23 inch display to the 30 for high quality retouching.
My question to you guys is, would it be as good to buy a "27" inch Imac instead these days?
I'm wondering because the price difference is only $100.00 and I could live without the extra 2 inches of screen if Im getting a full computer extra, if the quality is as good.
I know the imac has gloss screen and LED Display,
and the '30' Cinema has mat screen which is preferable and a different graphics card than the Macbook Pro 13 I would run it from.
So would the screen be as nice zoomed in and as accurate to print from is guess is the question.
Thank you Very Much to anyone for helping with an opinion.

You will have better luck asking your question in the Pro Apps/Aperture section of Discussions. There are more people there that care about the things you do.

  • What is the small hole in the back of the Apple Cinema Display used for?

its a very small pin sized hole directly on the back panel. Just kind of curious as I have noticed it on the 30in Aluminum ACD.

Is it an oval/rectangle hole you're looking at? It's a Kensington lock so you can tether the display to something to make it harder to steal.

  • Mac Mini 2012 and I want to use a new 27" Lighting Display and my old 27" Cinema Display as a second Monitor

    Evening all,
I have a Mac Mini that I have been using a 27" Cinema Display on for a couple years - works GREAT, love the Mini and that display. The Cinema Display has Power for a Laptop, USB connector and a Mini Display Port connection on it.
I am a Guitarist / Songwriter and I use Pro Tools a lot. So I thought I would invest in the new Lightning Display for my Mac Mini. I would get the extra ports for Firewire, and USB, as well as now I could "Daisy Chain" my old Cinema Display off the new Lightning Display.
WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT THIS HAS TURNED INTO !!!!  I have honestly spent more than 6 hours trying to find adapters or ways to make these monitors BOTH work at the same time with the Mac Mini ( you know, a Dual Monitor Setup . . .)
    HELP !!!
1 - If I could find a HDMI MALE to Mini Display Port FEMALE adapter, I would run it on the HDMI interface - apparently no such adapter exists.
2 - You apparently can NOT daisy chaine the Cinema Display off the Thunderbolt Port on the new Monitor ( silly that that does not work, but it does not )
I am really stuck here - how do I get these monitors to work as "Dual Monitors" on the Mac Mini ???
    Thanks !

The HDMI port won't work for a 27" monitor, it maxes out at 1920*1200...
Supports dual simultaneous displays -- 1920x1200 on an HDMI display or a DVI display using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and 2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with adapter). Thunderbolt is backwards-compatible with Mini DisplayPort-equipped displays as well as adapters that are compatible with Mini DisplayPort (DVI, VGA, dual-link DVI and HDMI).

  • Installation of 27" cinema display with macbook pro silver key and bootcamp

For everyone out there who may be interested in using the new 27" cinema display with an older Macbook Pro Intel with silver keys and bootcamp.
    What is needed:
    1. Apple 27" cinema display.
    2. Macbook pro Intel silver key model
    3. Altona Dual Link DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter (Model AT-DP400)
    4. Bootcamp 3.1 drivers from Mac OSX Snow Leopard V10.6.3(retail)
    Procedure:
    1. Update your display software on the Mac OS side. Apple has posted an update on their software downloads page, "LED Cinema Display Software Update 1.0" After doing so, make sure that the 27" CinDisp is operating correctly and you can change the brightness from the system settings.
    2. On the Windows side, install the bootcamp 3.1 drivers. These are on the Snow Leopard distribution CD. However, there is a bug in the .msi installer that causes the installation to go into an endless loop. This must be resolved during the installation of the drivers. The following article discribes how to do this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2305631&tstart=0
    3. After you have successfully installed the bootcamp 3.1 drivers, then install Apple's bootcamp update: "Apple Magic Trackpad and 27-inch LED Cinema Display Update for Windows 32 bit".
    Good luck, it works!

I have the same MBP and recently bought a 23" cinema display on Craigslist for $140.  It works great.  I had a display port to DVI adapter and it worked fine.  Built a stand to hold the laptop vertically so it's out of the way.  Don't know about older displays but anything with DVI should work fine.
The screen size and resolution are great for photo editing.  I now have the best of both worlds, a display that rivals my wife's iMac and portability.

  • Clear enclosure 23" cinema display with DVi connector?

    Hi all,
I went to a local Mac store (Not Apple) where I was shown a supposedly 23" HD cinema display (clear enclosure) with a DVI CONNECTOR directly built in. I was under the impression that all clear enclosure versions natively came with the ADC connector and that if DVI was warranted, a converted was necessary. To my surprise, Apple apparently made two clear enclosure versions, both ADC and DVI. I've verified under the spec. area of this site. But, there were no 23" clear enclosure with DVI, except of course, the current 23 version which is the aluminum. So, was the more likely scenario that this rep. had shown me a 22 with DVI or is there really a 23 version with DVI. I was convinced at the time myself that it was a 23 clear enclosure version with a DVI connector. I saw with my own eyes that this display did not have a converter connected and it looked like the 23 as opposed to a 22. The 22 & 23 looks so similar and can be mistaken for each other. One of the ways of identifying readily is that the 22 has the power/brightness controls near the bottom right of the casing. Could someone confirm either way. Thanks!

    Hi-
I agree that the rep probably showed you a 22" DVI model. See page 8 of the 22" Cinema Display Manual for the cabling of the display.
You will see the DVI version of the Cinema Display listed in this article. The article was put out prior to the Aluminum housed ACD release.

  • How to simulate windows pc monitors using a mac cinema display?

I occassionally have to produce jpegs to be posted on photographer's websites. These are high-end fashion images and the photographers are really picky about making them look good online with accurate hues, saturation, etc.
On my old iMac I used to 'preview' how they would look on a windows pc by simply changing my display profile to 'Generic Monitor' under system preferences. This worked pretty good and gave me results that matched the windows machines I have in my studio. However I just bought a Mac Pro with a 23" cinema display and for some reason this option is no longer availble, the closest thing in the Displays panel is now 'Generic RGB Profile' and testing this by comparing jpegs on my cinema display to those viewed on a windows laptop on the same desk I can see that this profile does not seem to come anywhere nearly as close to matching the contrast and saturation of crappy pc monitors.
Any one else had this problem? When I call apple tech support they seem very vague about what these profiles are actually meant to represent and why the very useful Generic Monitor profile is no longer present ("that monitor doesn't come with that profile, it's a professional monitor" one tech told me, obviously not understanding what I'm trying to do). This is kind of disappointing given that I've just spent over $6,000 on hardware that doesn't perform as well in this respect as my old iMac did.
Anyone know of a simple fix or somewhere I can download a profile that will work with my cinema display and mac pro? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
PS - I am not very technical so I don't know if these profiles are in some ways connected with the graphic card, my mac pro has an ATI Radeon 2600XT and is running Leopard 10.5.1.
    Thanks!

No, the saturation can't be adjusted during calibration. But the Cinema Display desn't have especially saturated colours. It matches the sRGB standard of most PC displays.
Cinema Displays are normal screens. Macs look different because the operating system adjusts the gamma to 1.8. There is nothing special about the monitor itself.
On the other hand, it will always look more saturated than a laptop screen. PC or Mac ...

  • Cinema Display or iMac

I need a larger screen than the 15.4" of my MacBook Pro. I am torn between a 23" Cinema Display (or even a 30") and an iMac 24" which I would use as a larger display for my MacBook Pro.
    1. Is the 30" Cinema Display overkill for a normal-size desktop running most Pages, Keynote, and the Web? I know I'm too cramped when I must have both Keynote and Art Text open.
    2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a) the Cinema Display and b) the iMac? Is it cost-effective to get the iMac because it can serve as a computer too and not just a monitor? My MacBook Pro will remain my primary computer because I haul it to work every day.
    3. How do I use the iMac as a monitor? A simple ethernet cable between it and the MacBook Pro? What are the details of getting the iMac to work as a monitor for my MacBook Pro?
    THANKS for your opinions.

    3. Download and set up ScreenRecycler.

  • 24" Cinema Display Compatibility with New MBPs

Need advice: Considering a new 13" 2.53GHsz MBP and a 24" Cinema display -- laptop for travel, display for desk. Like the portability of the 13". Or do I need upgrade to the 15" 2.66Ghz MBP with enhanced graphics and video support? Not a gamer, but would enjoy the display for movies, etc. Thanks in advance.

Update: Apple store sales advised me to buy 15" MBP (vs. new 13") due to concerns re: graphics and speed. So I purchased the 2.8Ghz. Set up with cinema display works great. Done.

Looking to obtain 23" Cinema Display (M8537M) for 2nd display. Tech specs list only G4 compatability. Will this unit work w/my G5 dual? Both monitor and G5 have ADC connections (as well as the new graphics card I'm about to install - x800xt). Trying to keep my investment alive. Thanx

  • A1038 Cinema Display doesnt wake after sleep

I picked up an Apple cinema display A1038 for real cheap with hopes to make it a second monitor for my 2011 mac mini. I hooked it up to my G4 powermac to test, until I get the correct adapters for my mini. It worked when powered on and I ran a movie to see if it would stay on and it did. After the movie was over the computer went to sleep and now it will not wake up, just black screen with the power light on the display blinking occasionally. If I hard reboot the computer the apple loading screen appears and than it goes black. I tried swapping the video card with another one I had laying around but same symptoms. If I unplug the display and unplug the computer for a few mins, everything will start and run fine until the computer sleeps again. I also have a G5 powermac but I haven't tried the display on it yet. Any suggestions?!

The USB circuitry in the display may be failing.  This can interfere with computer sleep functions.   It that's the problem you may be able to use the display successfully when using a DVI to ADC adapter by not connecting the adapter's USB cable to the computer.  You won't be able to use the display's USB ports or control its brightness from the computer.  I have been using my 22" ADC display this way for five years since its USB started causing computer sleep problems.
Be sure to get the Apple version of the DVI to ADC adapter.  Other brands may not work in conjunction with a Mini DisplayPort adapter.
