Evdre large retrieve

Hi
When refreshing an evdre (without any expansion, colkey-rowkey are fixed) we seem to get a random evdre error.
The evdre report is quiet large,somewhat 57.510 cells to retrieve.
Nevertheless sometimes it works fine,sometimes it gives an evdre-error on exactly the same region of data.
The only workaround we seem to have is to do a full optimize, even if there are 0 records in WB and FAC2 this seems to help. No compression of records was required neither.
Would there be other limitations server wise we need to consider? Would the cache have anything to do with it?

Frank,
if you are using 5.1, it might be related with client decompress issue.
So please turn off compress option and try it.
If it works, it is a known issue of compress option. (I am not sure but please use latest SP to fix it.)

Changes in hierarchy dimension members causes EVDRE Errors retrieving data

I am facing the problem while retrieving the data in Evdre this is the following situacion:
1. BPC 7.5 NW SP 08 is used.
2. Suppose that you have a template where you defined SELF,DEP for an account dimension, you expand and refresh normally, and retrieved data OK.
3. Your business case makes that you have to move one of the dependant member of the hierarchy to another parent
then you go to mantain dimension member and change the parent of the member in question, finally you process dimension, and put available set status.
4. Yo re-open Template or refresh dimension members from the server in order to see update hierarchy in account dimension
5. After expanding and refreshing the evdre, shows and error "...while retrieving the data.. "
6. I suppose the way to fix it is to reverse the change in dimension member, so I change for initial parenth but error continue.
What do you recommend for fix it? is there any note which solve it?

Could you confirm us what is the the path of that XML file of dimension thought BW - UJFS?
The only thing that correct problem is doing the following but not should be the best way:
1. Supress Account dimension in application
2. Delete dimension
3. Recreate Dimension and process it
4. insert dimension into application
5. Refresh Evdre and then works fine!
Is there any Sap note about it or something else to check?

BPC 7.5 NW - EVDRE error retrieving data

Hello all.
I have a problem with my BPC 7.5 NW system.
I am working with BPC 7.5 NW SP07, and I did all the installation and configuration steps with both .NET and ABAP components.
But when I try to execute an EVDRE, the system shows the next error message:
"EVDRE encountered an error retrieving data from Web Server"
I checked ST22 transaction and I saw that /BI0/02xxx tables are not created or activated. I checked these tables in SE11 transaction, and they don´t exist.
I saw several posts and a couple of notes with this problem. They say that these temporary tables are needed to be created or activated, but I couldn´t see anywhere the way to solve the problem in case the tables are not created.
Does anyone have any idea? What is the cause of this problem? Why these are not being created?

1. Login into BPC for Admin
2. Once logged into your Appset , open the Dimension library
3. Process each dimension by selecting the "Process members from membersheet" and by unchecking the "Take system offline" option
4. Process all the dimensions one by one not together.
5. Once processing the dimensions is done then open the Applications and Modify each Application by adding or changing the Application Description.
6. Once done modifying Applications then logout of the BPC Admin and BPC Excel.
7. Login back again into BPC for Excel by going through the connection wizard.
Ideally this should solve your problem and If all the dimensions are processed successfully then logoff and login to see if you stilll see the EVDRE error.

ERROR MESSAGE WHEN DISPLAYING LARGE RETRIEVING AND DISPLAYING LARGE AMOUNT OF DATA

Am querying my database(mysql) and displaying my data in a
DataGrid (Note that am using Flex 2.0)
It works fine when the amount of data populating the grid is
not much. But when I have large amount of data I get the following
error message and the grid is not populated.

This error message has many root cause.
First let's check if the installation of BPC client is correct.
Just use a simple EVDRE functions and try to expand.
Are you receiving any error? If yes then I suggest to try also for Apshell ppset.
If it is not working then that's means you have a problem with installation.
If you can use EVDRE from another machine then the problem is installaytion of the client.
If the problem is into all computers then the problem is into server.
If the problem is just into one report then you have to review that report because some parameters sent to EVDRE are wrong otit is trying to retrievea region which is toobig.
I hope this will help you toinvestigate the issue.

EVDRE - 'ALL' Keyword in Expand range not working when using ParentH2

Hi experts,
I am using a second hierarchy in my P_ACCT dimension (ParentH2). When creating a report with the ALL keyword in expand range (MemberSet) to show all members under P&L an error occurs (EVDRE cannot retrieve data). Without having the second hierarchy in the dimension the report works fine.
Did anyone of you experience the same problem before? Is there a solution?

Processing the dimension works without any issues.
In the second hierarchy there are about 400 members (knodes and basemembers). That's roughly the same number of members as in the first hierarchy. Is there a known issue with the system when using the parentH2 property for that number of members?

How does BPC Excel execute expansions?

I am experiencing some problems with a report and I am not able to find out what is happening. To deduce what happens I think I need some info about how BPC Excel works.
So, when we have some EvEXP, EvNXP and EvDRE functions define in the cells of a same report:
1) in what order are they executed? (order of preference of these functions and order according to the excel cell where they are defined, I think it has some influence).
2) an expansion inserts or deletes rows (and/or columns), right? So, how does it do it? Does it always first delete the rows and then insert the new ones or does it do it otherwise?

thank you for giving the question a chance, I know it's kind of weird
I have continued testing since I made the question in the forum and I have been able to make some sense of what is happening guessing that BPC excel: 1) executes first EvEXP, EvNXP (I don't know if the order in which they are defined in the excel sheet has some influence or not), and then EvDRE. 2) always performs first expansions in columns and then expansions in rows (either for adding or deleting, but again I don't know if the order in which they are defined in the excel sheet has some influence).
I am dealing with this issues because we have some quite complex reports with different EvDRE with expansions (in the same sheet, ones over the others). It used to work ok in 5.1, but in 7.0 we discovered the one EvDRE would "break" other EvDRE as its expansions would eventually delete more rows/columns that it should (we have a note with support on that).
We found out that this issue does not happen with EvEXP, EvNXP expansion, so as a workaround I am trying to make the report using EvEXP/EvNXP for the expansions combined with EvDRE to retrieve the data. And I am slowly getting to it, but continually experiencing rows that brake, ranges that shift around in the sheet, etc., mainly by how the expansions get executed, thus my need in getting deeper knowledge on how it all is internally working.
So, do you think my conclusions are ok or you have a different insight?

AFTER RANGE for multiple selection

Dear Experts,
When defining two colkey ranges =EVRNG(A8:B9,C8:D9)
Can I restrict my AFTER RANGE value only to the sencond range (C8:D9)
I mean, make that the columns created by the EVAFTER only applys after the whole colkey range
display the column corresponding to the first range, the the column corresponding to the second range and
then the column generated by the EVAFTER.
Someone could help me limiting this After Range values to second col key range?

Expansions between two EVDREs are compatible I mean, if I require following structure:

I could filter time and version for first column in the first EVDRE and TIME and VERSION for secon column in the second EVDRE introducing the AFTER RANGE in the second EVDRE obtaining the desired result for the first section, for the first required account.
But what would it happen with second section, with ACCOUNT 2...I am afraid the first EVDRE will retrieve all accounts for TIME 1 and VERSION 1...and the at the end the second EVDRE will retrieve all accounts for TIME 2 and VERSION 2 , with out being able to compare values from selection 1 (TIME 1 and VERSION 1) versus selection 2 (TIME 2 and VERSION 2).

Switch between BPF with different enviroment

Hi experts,
I'm oN BPC for MS SP 11 with epm add-in for big vol SP 18
I have two BPF: one related to ICMATCHING enviroment and one related to FINANCIALS enviroment.
I open a report from ICMATCHING BPF , I leave Excel open, then I open a report from FINANCIALS BPF : now the second report show wrong results because the active connection is ICMACTHING !. Both reports use evdre to retrieve data
A workaround could be close Excel every switch between BPF related to different enviroments but customer doesn't like it.

You can disconnect conflicting connections that have been open in the seame Excel session by clicking the button marked in yellow.

Block suppression

there is a block suppression on a report , it was working fine a week ago , suddenly it is having an issue after runs for 7 to 8 minutes and an error "evdre error retrieving data from webserver",
could someone explain about the limitations apart from those mentioned in the sap note and how blk suppression impacts, if that is the case required for tuning
else please let me know what would be the reasons for a sudden drop in the response time of retrieving the data

Please create a customer message in the SAP Service Marketplace and report your issue as a potential bug. To expedite a solution it would be helpful if you create a simple example in APSHELL (or copy of it) and detail the steps exactly for the Support team to recreate, verify and troubleshoot the problem.

Query Error Information: Result set is too large; data retrieval ......

Hi Experts,
I got one problem with my query information. when Im executing my report and drill my info in my navigation panel, Instead of a table with values the message "Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration" appears. I already applied "Note 1127156 - Safety belt: Result set is too large". I imported Support Package 13 for SAP NetWeaver 7. 0 BI Java (BIIBC13_0.SCA / BIBASES13_0.SCA / BIWEBAPP13_0.SCA) and executed the program SAP_RSADMIN_MAINTAIN (in transaction SE38), with the object and the value like Note 1127156 says... but the problem still appears....
what Should I be missing ?????? How can I fix this issue ????

You may ask your basis guy to increase ESM buffer (rsdb/esm/buffersize_kb). Did you check the systems memory?
Did you try to check the error dump using ST22 - Runtime error analysis?

WAD : Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration

When trying to execute the web template by giving less restiction we are getting the below error :
Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration
Result set too large (758992 cells); data retrieval restricted by configuration (maximum = 500000 cells)
But when we try to increase the number of restictions it is giving output. For example if we give fiscal period, company code ann Brand we are able to get output. But if we give fical period alone it it throwing the above error.
Note : We are in SP18.
Whether do we need to change some setting in configuration? If we yes where do we need to change or what else we need to do to remove this error

Hi Karthik,
the standard setting for web templates is to display a maximum amount of 50.000 cells. The less you restrict your query the more data will be displayed in the report. If you want to display more than 50.000 cells the template will not be executed correctly.
In general it is advisable to restrict the query as much as possible. The more data you display the worse your performance will be. If you have to display more data and you execute the query from query designer or if you use the standard template you can individually set the maximum amount of cells. This is described over [here|Re: Bex Web 7.0 cells overflow].
However I do not know if (and how) you can set the maximum amount of cells differently as a default setting for your template. This should be possible somehow I think, if you find a solution for this please let us know.

While executing query for a given period, 'Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration' message is getting displayed. I had searched in SDN and I had referred the following link:

Steps followed:
1) Transaction Code SE38
2) In the program field, entered the report name SAP_RSADMIN_MAINTAIN and Executed.
3) For OBJECT, entered the following parameters: BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_MAX
4) For VALUE, entered the value for the size of the result set, and then executed the program:
After the said steps, the below message is displayed:
OLD SETTING:
OBJECT = VALUE =
UPDATE failed because there is no record
OBJECT = BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_MAX
Similar message is displayed for Object: BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_DEF.
Please let me know as to how to proceed on this.

Retrieve data from a large table from ORACLE 10g

I am working with a Microsoft Visual Studio Project that requires to retrieve data from a large table from Oracle 10g database and export the data into the hard drive.
The problem here is that I am not able to connect to the database directly because of license issue but I can use a third party API to retrieve data from the database. This API has sufficient previllege/license permission on to the database to perform retrieval of data. So, I am not able to use DTS/SSIS or other tool to import data from the database directly connecting to it.
Here my approach is...first retrieve the data using the API into a .net DataTable and then dump the records from it into the hard drive in a specific format (might be in Excel file/ another SQL server database).
When I try to retrieve the data from a large table having over 13 lacs records (3-4 GB) in a data table using the visual studio project, I get an Out of memory exception.
But is there any better way to retrieve the records chunk by chunk and do the export without loosing the state of the data in the table?
Any help on this problem will be highly appriciated.

What does it mean by this line i.e. another media into hard drive???
ANS: Sorry...I just want to write the data in a file or in a table in SQL server database.

huh?? I never heard this question that a user is not able to connect the db because of license. What error / message you are getting?
ANS: My company uses a 3rd party application that uses ORACLE 10g. And my compnay is licensed to use the 3rd party application (APP+Database is a package) and did not purchased ORACLE license to use directly. So I will not connect to the database directly.
3.I am not sure which API is you are talking about, but i am running an application of the visual studio data grid or similar kind of controls; in which i can select (select query) as many rows as i needed; no issue.
ANS: This API is provided by the 3rd party application vendor. I can pass a query to it and it returns a datatable.

ANS: As I get a system error (out of memory) when I select all rows in a datatable at a time, I wanted to retrieve the data in multiple phases.
E.g: 1 to 20,000 records in 1st phase
20,001 to 40,000 records in 2nd phase
40,001 to ...... records in 3nd phase
and so on...
Please let me know if this does not clarify your confusions... :)

We are using a big report which takes very long time to expand and sometimes we get the error message "evdre encountered a problem retrieving data from the webserver" when expanding the report, but not very often for most of our users. But we have one user who gets this error message almost every second time he expands the report. This user have a computer with same capacity as the rest of us, can there be some setting on the computer or in the client installtion the cause this problem?
We are using BPC 5.1 SP 5

Hi,
This error occurs usually if we have huge data in combination of our dimensions.
Even, if the selection of your memberset is not apt to the combination of the data present in the back end, you may encounter a data retrival error.
