Eve online + wine [SOLVED]

I have eve running under wine, the only problem is I want to run two clients in windowed mode.  I set wine to run in desktop mode and set the resolution so that I get a nice windowed eve client. Now, when I run a second instance of eve, wine opens it in the desktop of the first wine window so the second instance covers the first!  Is there a way to open a new instance of the first app in a separate desktop (i.e. with it's own window?)

I tried several months ago to play Eve under wine. I could play but there were some very, very annoying bugs. If i recall correctly, two major issues regarded a double-mouse (as in two cursors being displayed) and the "frame" being a little out of focus....
what i mean by that is, imagine if the image on your monitor moved diagonally towards the top right corner of your screen, so there was a black "L" shape of nothing on the left-hand-side and bottom of your screen. and the mouse "scrolled up into" the top corner (which has now extended beyond your monitor).
Besides that it was completely playable. Perhaps they've fixed these issues, if so i'm going back to playing Eve.
I really have had no issues.  The latest wine works extremely well and I get good performance.  Just be sure to follow the instructions in the appDB for the game over at winehq (need to do some special things like copy over fonts and install the classic client before applying the premium upgrade rather than just installing the premium client off the bat).
Oh yeah I even made a youtube video (this was before I switched over to Arch): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P1s3aOnDhc

  • [SOLVED] WINE and Eve Online

First off, I am not using 64bit.
Lately, running Wine and Eve-Online is fine.
However, when I Quit from the game menu...it freezes.
I actually have to x-it-out (the wine window), and a window pops up with
"A simulated logout was in the process and is not responding".. or some such thing
and then I can terminate it and get my desktop back.
I've seen several posts about this, but no resolve.

Did you try the aur package, I suggested earlier?
    aur/wine-d3dstream-git
I compiled this again two-three days ago, and am seeing good effect in EVE in particular, with an nVidia 660, both with and without bumblebee.
I use PlayOnLinux to manage my WINE prefixes. It turns out the 1.7.18-CS-0.8-f1cf438 build is a build of the HEAD of that repository. So I switched to that WINE version, and yes, the problem is solved.
I also created a CSMT-enabling registry key. To do so, launch regedit, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D, right click and select New > String Value “CSMT”. Then, double click and set the string to “enabled”.
    Thank you!
    Neat!
Then the million isk question is, "Why does the CSMT build not display this issue?"
I just might have to put on my scuba gear and go diving into this some more when the schedule permits.

  • [SOLVED] EVE Online and Wine 1.7

I'm running EVE Online with wine-1.7.28. My issue is that WIndows within the game have rendering issues as well as part of the station UI.
The rendering issues mean that I can't change tabs in a window (I can collapse and reload the window and the tab has changed). I also can't drag windows around - well, I can but they don't move visually.
The station UI section that doesn't render is the Upper right hand corner - the section with the station Logo and undock button. The button showed after I clicked it.
    Text renders.
    Any ideas?
Errors which I have seen include:
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_load_texture Downloading RGB surface 0xf03dfa8 to reload it as sRGB.
    and
    fixme:imm:NotifyIME NI_CLOSECANDIDATE

I remember from researching my problem that errors starting with "fixme" or ending with "stub" are things that someone should probably fix eventually, but aren't usually part of what causes problems. Can you provide a paste (in code tags, of course) of all the lines/errors instead of just those two?

  • [SOLVED] Installing Eve Online with Wine

I followed this guide: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. … &iId=25823 in an attempt to install Eve on wine. However, when I try to run the installer.msi file, the install window appears, but the buttons to continue are greyed out. The only button that is not greyed out is the cancel button, and I am not able to press it. It seems like the installer is frozen. When I try to run wine installer.msi, I get:
    [d0ublemur@LinuxBox ~/Downloads/EVE_OFFLINE_INSTALLER_FILES]$ wine EVE_Online_Installer_Full_899716.msi

    I'm running wine-1.7.44.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I tried the command in the howto like Lone_Wolf suggested, and it gave me the output:
    [d0ublemur@LinuxBox ~/Downloads/EVE_OFFLINE_INSTALLER_FILES]$ wine EVE_Oline_Installer*.exe
    wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\EVE_Oline_Installer*.exe"

I thought that the "Eve_Oline_Installer" was a typo so i tried
    wine Eve_Online_Installer*.exe
    and the same thing happened:
    [d0ublemur@LinuxBox ~/Downloads/EVE_OFFLINE_INSTALLER_FILES]$ wine EVE_Online_Installer*.exe
    wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\EVE_Online_Installer*.exe"

  • Wine, Eve Online and Pulseaudio

I've got Eve Online working nicely in Wine with very few problems. However I can't get it to work nicely with pulseaudio.
Winecfg's audio section can play sound through pulseaudio just fine, via alsa using ~/.asoundrc. However Eve Online cannot output sound while pulse is running and so I have to use pasuspender when running Eve.
I've googled quite a bit and tried several solutions. However they all seem out of date or require compiling custom versions of wine with patches that may or may not work with newer version of wine.
It's a bit annoying as I'd like to be able to listen to my music while playing.
    Any ideas?

Well wine-multimedia worked very well. It's clearly got a few bugs still but on the whole not bad at all.  Wine-multimedia does trigger a graphics issue (using the captains quarters causes a crash), whereas wine does not, but that is a known issue with the game and is affecting some windows users too.
Sound works very well, it was choppy for a few seconds as the game started but fine after that. Funnily enough it feels faster and much smoother than on my windows install.
EDIT: For anyone else setting up eve as well it seems the client and the launcher need some different settings. I made two aliases:
    eve='WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr90,*msvcr80=b,n" wine "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe"'
    eve-launcher='WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcr100,*msvcr90,*msvcr80=n,b" wine "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"'
    Seems to do the trick.
    ### A few things I've learned doing this: ###
You need to install winetricks and run:
    winetricks corefonts d3dx9_36 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010
    Before running the eve setup.
If vcrun2010 fails try running winetricks msxml3 and follow the instructions to manually download the installer.
If you're client crashes on clicking on a character, open the game, log in, press escape, go to the graphics options and disable "Load Station Environment". Undock then change the option back. You should now have a movable station environment. If you were getting the crash before do NOT open the captain's quarters.
Using wine-multimedia you may have to use winecfg to change the audio out/in puts to pulseaudio.

  • Eve online freezes on start (wine graphics detection issue)

    Hi,
Basically my problem is - i'm getting
err:winediag:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo The Mesa OpenGL driver is using software rendering, most likely your OpenGL drivers haven't been installed correctly
When trying to start eve online.
I'm using Arch x86_64 on Dell Latitude e4300.
My graphic chip is Intel GMA 4500MHD, with working intel driver (direct rendering works as per glxinfo).
    Wine version is 1.37.
Ist this a wine issue? Any chance of convincing wine that my direct rendering works?
Any info appreciated, thanks in advance.

installing lib32-libgl (and enabling texture compression with driconf so textures are actually rendered) fixed it, thanks.
    I can now login/enter game.
    I'm now getting
Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero ctl 00000000 head 124140b4 tail 00000000 start 02000000

when trying to undock. Which is probably known intel driver issue/bug as i find a lot of hits in google (also here in testing repo forum section).
But at least i can now trade/change skills/chat/spin ships...
EDIT: With xf86-video-intel-git i can actually undock and fly around for 2-3minutes before it hangs.

  • EVE-ONLINE and WINE 1.3.20-1

Eve Online exits and terminates while using WINE 1.3.20-1 -- if you move/resize windows.
This probably should be posted on the WINEHQ bug thingy, but I posted it here too incase others are getting issues.
WINE 1.3.19-2 is what I had to revert/roll-back too.
XFCE4  64-bit w/ wine (using "WINEARCH=win32 winecfg" to config wine)

yeah, i can confirm this. its happening to me too.

I have been looking for a solution for quite a while...
I think I have all 32 bit and 64 bit libraries and drivers installed.
By the looks of it something in  r600_dri.so breaks, but I have no idea how to fix this

bump ...  nobody has anything helpful to post ?
Am I trying to do something that is not possible with the open source driver ? start a game in wine 32bit?
Or maybe the problem is in one of the  libraries ?
I did mess around with the catalyst before, but the 2d was so bad that I decided not to even try the 3D watching a movie was impossible at a decent fps O.o
And I do believe that I removed all and re-installed Open Source libraries + drivers properly. Is there a definitive way to check ?

  • XMonad, Wine, and EVE Online

So I have EVE online working in Wine.  The only problem is that voice isn't working, and we use that quite a bit for ops.  Now, it seems my problem is that for some reason EVE isn't picking up any of the hotkeys.  This is a guess based on the fact that I can join voice, and hear other people, but when I hit any of the hotkeys the little speaker doesn't light up next to my name in the chat client.
Considering that I couldn't find anything on the net, I guess this is related to my WM?  Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks!

I know absolutely nothing about EVE but I play WoW a lot on Ubuntu and Arch Linux.
Are you talking about an in-game voice function, or are you using an application for Vent/TS/Mumble/Somethingelse.

  • EVE Online Linux Support is here.

The announcement can be found in this forum topic.
Cheers for a company that gives Linux support where other try to ignore player base (my humble opinion anyway).
Time to learn how to write PKGBUILDs .

In the options screen, I can't select windowed and if I change the resolution to a higher setting and press close, the client stops and doesn't restart on it's own. When I start it, it is still 10x24 fullscreen, but other settings have been saved.
As long as I stay inside a station, everything is fine and dandy, as soon as I undock the client crashes and when I try to login again and eve starts to load my toon (now outside a station somewhere) the client crashes again.
    I also get the error:
    sh: lsb_release: command not found
This can be solved by installing lsb_release, but the package isn't in pacman or AUR. I've been browsing the web to find a source tarball to make a PKGBUILD for it, but no luck so far.
You can run eve -config to get the cedega config options for eve, there you can set windowed mode.
Remember to turn off dx_grab there aswell if you're running windowed.
I get the lsb_release warning aswell but it does not affect running the client as far as I can tell.
Gilneas wrote:How does Eve online compare to others such as Vendetta online and Freelancer?
Been a long time since I played Freelancer and I've never tried Vendetta. But Eve is third person and more tactical when it comes to fighting. It's very hard to summarize eve but it's really massive and the learning curve is steep but once you get into it, set some goals for yourself and find a good bunch of people to team up with I'd say it's the most rewarding mmo out there.
Only thing I can say it get the trial and see for yourself if it's a (THE) game for you.

  • EVE-Online gameplay issues

    Hi All,
First time posting an issue, these forums have been such a great help that I haven't needed anything else yet.
Anyway, I have a post up at the EVE-Online forums stating the following:
I am using Arch32 currently and have issues with the Minmatar Stargates. Every time I get within 1500m of a gate, my client completely freezes for 20 to 25 seconds then becomes available for about 3 to 5 seconds before freezing up again.
Has anyone else had an issue with Arch Linux and Eve? I have tried it with Ubuntu 7.10, but feel like ubuntu runs extremely slow on my computer after a few days.
Anyway, I am using Wine .9.4.56-1 with the premium install (premium content disabled).
I have searched the forums, tried several things and to no avail. Docked is great, space is great, gates really suck!
    Help me out please?!
    Linux Arch 2.6.24-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Mar 5 12:07:52 UTC 2008 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6320 @ 1.86GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
    2gb ddr2 800, 300gb SATA2, 8800GTS 640mb, intel p35 chipset, 3com 3c905tx nic (dont laugh, it still works beautifully)
    Thank you in advance.

EDIT: this is the only output i get from running the game:

EDIT 2: I compiled WINE 0.9.57 from the source tar.gz on winehq.com and still getting the same errors/stargate issues.
Here is a direct link to that post... http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard … 57&page=67
Now, I haven't had a chance to check any other stargates, but I know there have to be a few Arch users that have had some experience with EVE-Online.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I have tried everything i could find for settings and such on the Wine App DB and also on the EVE-Online forums to no avail.
    Thank you in advance,
    GnunixGuy

I've been playing eve-online since November on wine as a Minmatar and I haven't come across any freezing issues with their gates. My system is an AMD Athlon-XP 2600+ system with a 128MB 6600gt video card using wine-0.9.57. Have you tried http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys ? I have OffscreenRenderingMode set to fbo and VideoMemorySize set to use my full graphics memory. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

  • EVE with wine?

so, I am having some problems getting eve to work with wine.  it might not be configured right, but I can run castle of the winds in wine (which is not nearly as demandng as eve, graphically)
anyways, I get eve to open, and it gets to the terms and conditions and freezes.  The text only shows up in the terms and conditions if I wait for like half an hour, otherwise its just a black window with: scroll to the bottom to continue and the login thing at the bottom
Also, the background doesn't show up.
in terminal I get a whole slew of errors:

I have a nvidia graphics, and Im going to install eve in a while so I will come back here with results (as soon as I get home).
Ok im downloading the Offline installer now. Found this on the EVE site sausage, check it out and see if that helps you.

I will be using that as well when download finishes.
UPDATE: Could not get it to work also, It hangs at the load screen where it says "EVE Online: Dominion" and then just stays in the virtual desktop showing nothing.

  • I get error -36 when I try to verify or install the EVE online dmg

I am trying to install 'EVE online' from the .dmg file I downloaded from their site (and Cnet). Each time I download it an double click to verify, it gets to a certain point and says 'error -36' read or write error. Same if I skip the verification and try put it into applications.
I've tried disk utility to repair but it says the image is ok, and I've tried the dot_clean command but it doesn't work on a .dmg as it's not a directory. I have re- downloaded and get the same thing happens. Also tried downloading through the terminal as some threads said it's because the file size is not listed right from the eve server but that didn't help.
It's a 5gig download and 10gig when installed which might have something to do with it (size)
    Please help!

Error -36 is I/O error, w/o specifying if the error is in the source or the target.
So, first of all, verify your disk(s) with Disk Utility, just to make sure there's no problem there.
If there isn't, then there's a problem with the download. Consult "EVE online" (whatever that might be) tech support and user forums.

  • MBP overheating on EVE online

Hi. I've got my MBP about one month ago and i'm completely new on apple computers. I usually use my MBP with DAW programs (like ableton live and reason) and cpu's temps about 45-50 and fans 1900-2000 rpm according to istat. but when i start eve online (using 9600 gt) cpu degree jumps to the 72 and fans rpm to 7k (also fans work a bit noisy). is it normal process or my mbp has got some bad issues ?

Yup it's normal. The intel mobile CPUs are good to go up to a bit over 100°C without any damage. If you are concerned about temps, you should look into SMC Fancontrol though 72°C seems fine to me.
