Even editing text in Design View is now difficult in DW CC?

Hi All,
Even editing text in Design View is now difficult in DW CC? I just upgraded.
It seems difficult - or impossible - to select, copy and paste multiple blocks of text from one place to another - unless you work in the Code View.
Text blocks are separate entities, separately edited? I can't even copy and paste an image from one file into another.
Previously, I'd regularly select an image - or a load of text - and replace it with some copied from elsewhere by 'pasting'.
I must be missing something. Perhaps there's another mode of working.
Thanks,
John

You're probably in Live View.
CC2014.1 does some strange things when it comes to Live and Design Views.
1. Design View is gone for Fluid Grid Layouts, so all editing has to be done in Code or Live View. There is a work around to get Design View back for those in Post #6 here: Editing Text and Adding Links Is Crazy in DW CC-2014.1
You can also add your voice to get it back here: Provide "Design View" for Fluid Grid Webpages
2. Design and Live Views are now a dropdown menu. Check the top left of your workspace, you should see Code | Split | Live with a small triangle next to Live. Click it to access Design View in everything but FGL pages

  • How to edit text in design mode - i.e get an I cursor instead of arrow

DW CS6 This is a very basic unclear on concept question. I normally work in code view and have no problems. Sometimes there is a large block of text within a paragraph which is in a div.
I would like to correct a simple typo or insert some more text directly from the design mode display. However, almost all the time, when I click on the spot I want to modify, the cursor remains an arrow and the entire div gets a yellow border. I still have the select arrow, not the vertical bar I need to edit.
Sometimes I seem to stumble onto the right set of clicks and get the edit bar.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Design View can get pretty cranky when your code has errors.
Check the validator at http://validator.w3.org and make sure you're working with clean code before resorting to wiping preferences, config folders or reinstalling.
If your code is clean and it's still not allowing you to click your text in Design View, you may have a z-indexing issue. I notice on pages that use a lot of positioning (APDivs) you can accidentally cover up your text boxes with blank/transparent areas of other elements and cause problems when trying to access that text at a later date.
It's all guesswork though without seeing your actual page.
    Could you post a link?

  • Can't see/edit Editable Regions in Design view

I am unable to see or edit Editable Regions in Design view in
this template, or any pages created from it. Regions can be updated
& saved in Code view only. Recently upgraded to CS3 from DW8/OS
X 10.4.10. Have looked at other postings on this subject, but my
code does not contain the overflow reference. The header is an
include. Editable regions are body, sidebar, body2 and sidebar2.
The library item at the bottom of the page also does not show up in
the Design view. Please see attached code and advise.
    Many thanks!!!

    Hi,
Yes I've had the disappearing animation problem. It shows in preview but not in design,
I deleted and re-inserted it. That cured it - but for how long.
This latest update has been a disaster for me.

  • Text from Design view is not visible on View

I converted a project from RoboHelp 9 to 11, and discovered that several of my topics were changed.  Most of the changes were minor, e.g. spacing, bold type, bullets, etc., but I'm still having to go through each page, to make corrections.  Oftentimes, the "problems" don't show up until I View the topic, but up to this point I've been able to fix them.  However, one topic looks fine in Design view, but when I open it in View, almost all of the text is gone.  I've tried retyping portions, to see if it reappeared, but not all of it does.  Do you have any idea what is happening and how I fix it?

LOL, you should probably check out my dear friend Peter Grainge's site
    RoboHelp Tour
Here's the deal. In times past, the eHelp corporation had RoboHelp. And they created RoboHelp HTML long before HTML really was wildly popular. In those times it was necessary to implement some rather arcane workarounds to allow editing and a WYSIWYG environment.
Time moves forward and Adobe are now the owners of the venerable RoboHelp. They modified the editor to be more standards compliant. And as you might imagine, that has the real possibility of somewhat munging things. Not that RoboHelp is munging code, but browsers are now a bit more persnickety about things. For example, that transparent thing was likely there in earlier browser versions and was ignored. So it's a combination of things.

  • Cannot See Content in Editable Region in Design View

A have a couple of pages with content in an editable region of a template.  I needed to apply another template to some of the pages things were going along fine.  Then I came across a page, went to modify > templates > apply template to page and then selected my new template.  I now cannot see my content in the design view.  I can see the code for my content in the code view. I can see the content when I publish the page and view it in my browser.  I can even see the content when I open the page to edit in Contribute.
Why in the world can I not see my content in design view?  I've tried a few other pages and they are now having this problem as well.  I like to work in split screen view and it makes it kind of difficult if I can't see the design view.

Found it!  Started looking at the code to provide it and noticed an extraneous </tr> and </td>.  Removed and it was fixed!  Simple!  Guess I should have looked a little harder before running to the forum!
    Thanks for the assist!

  • Invisible text in design view, how do I make it visible?

I cant figure out why the text in Dreamweaver is invisible,
though I can highlight it still, and see it fine in code view. I
cant make it visible in design view. I dont see css attached to the
text itself, only to the block, and other site elements, but
something in css is causing the text to be hidden and I dont know
how to make it visible. Anybody know what I should be editing or
    looking to edit?
    Thanks ahead of time.

It sounds like a containing element may have display:none,
    and that is
altered by JavaScript in the browser. DW Design View does not
    run
JavaScript, so you won't see elements like that in Design
    View.
If this is the case, and you are running CS3 (I think?) or
    later, go to
Preferences > Invisible Elements and make sure
    display:none elements are
turned on. This will show an icon in Design View that you
    can
right-click and use Element View > Full (shortcut is to
    double-click) on
to temporarily see that element. Use Element View > Hidden
    (or F5) to
    revert to the default view.
You can also override display:none in a Design-time Style
    Sheet if you
want to always see that/those elements.

  • Cursor off-set from text in design view CS3

I'm a recent MacSwitcher and found that DW 8 won't run worth
a damn on my new MacBook Pro (Intel). So am using trial version of
DW CS3 and having this bit of weirdness... where I put the cursor
on the page in design view is about 1 character "off" from where it
appears to be. Is this a CS3 thing? Mac thing? Stupid user thing?
It makes editing in design view practically impossible! Never had
this in any version on Windows. Any ideas? Thanks!

    ZebraDreaming,
Does the text use the CSS letter-spacing property? It's
    supported on
    Windows, but not the Mac.
If not, please provide a link to a page where you are seeing
    the problem.
    Thanks,

  • Text in design view is appearing as garbled gibberish?

As you'll see in the screenshot - all text is churned out as gibberish in design view.
I'm guessing this is some simple fix - but havent a clue what it is.
    Am Mac Dreamweaver CS3.
    Any help appreciated!

Could be corrupted fonts.  Try font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, Sans-serif.

  • Can't Edit Text- LiveCycle Designer 8.0

I've been using Livecycle for years and I've always opened up certain documents, edited the text, field boxes, etc.
All of a sudden, I go to edit a PDF in Livecycle (same pdf that I've always edited) and everything is locked. I can't delete, add text, move fields, nothing... It seems that the whole page got locked somehow. Any ideas on how to get it back to normal so that I can make edits? I'm using Windows Vista, Adobe Acrobat 8- Livecycle Designer 8.0.
    Thank you!

I can lock selected fields, and confirm that I can't move them around in designer.  Then I can unlock those fields, and confirm that I now can move them around in designer.  But in either case, I cannot edit the fields in the preview window.  When the document is viewed in either Acrobat Pro or Reader, the fields can be edited.  This is just a problem with the Preview window in Livecycle Designer, and it is a huge hinderence to the person developing the form (a different developer).
Interestingly, if I create a form in Designer and send it to this developer, the Preview window does work.  But for any form this other developer creates, the Preview window editing is disabled, even when she sends it to me.  So, I suspect it is setting somewhere...but darn if I can figure out what setting/where.

  • Editing text after designing a new form and converting it in to pdf

I designed a form and converted it in to PDF format for printing. The form has some formatting errors and needs to be edited. However attempt to do so results in a message stating that it is a secure documents and can not be edited. This is inspite of the fact that I have not placed any security restriction on it or on the folde in which it is stored. Can anyone help?
    Moneish

    Hi,
Just providing some information in addition to George's reply.
The PDF created by FormsCentral, assuming you are collecting responses online, is configured to enable extended features in Adobe Reader to allow respondents to save the form. To edit the PDF in Adobe Acrobat you must use the File > Save a Copy... menuitem to create a copy of the document that is not Reader-extended.
When you have finished editing the document you should remember to re-configure the PDF for fill-in and save within Adobe Reader.

  • Cursor position misplaced in Design View

I recently upgraded to Dreamweaver CS4 (Mac OS10.5.8) from DW8. Now, when trying to edit text in Design View, the cursor appears several spaces ahead of the characters it is actually editing. The extent of the misalignment is not regular (between .5 and 2 character spaces), but the cursor is always ahead of, never behind, where it should be. The problem does not occur in Code View, nor does it occur when using certain fonts. For example, Arial works fine but Gill Sans does not.
For now, I can edit in a working font and then switch to another, but I would welcome any advice as to a more permanent solution.

I am having the same issue with Dreamweaver CS5 for Mac. I also can’t find any way to fix the issue other than quitting dreamweaver and re-starting the program.
I doubt Adobe will ever fix it, since I’ve had so many issues with Dreamweaver going back to Macromedia days that Adobe still hasn’t bothered to fix since taking it over.
I just hope someday another company will create a product that works well and I can throw Dreamweaver into the trash.
I know that isn’t a very constructive post, or an answer, but maybe if I subscribe to this thread someone will eventually have a solution.
I have tried changing the display fonts in preferences, zooming in and out of the Design view, with no results (if the cursir is offset, zooming in with design view won’t change the offset.
It just sucks when you have an editor you can’t edit with and an FTP client you can’t use to move files around with. I basically have been reduced over the years to using Dreamweaver strictly as a code editor and will most likely be switching to something like BBedit and getting Dreamweaver completely out of my life.

  • CS3 Design View blank when body in Editable  area

Anyone run into this? It appears to be a bug, possibly new in
    DW CS3 (9.0 build 3481)
When a <body> tag is put in an editable region, DW does
not recognize subsequent editable regions and Design View is blank.
When saving this template, an error appears "This template does not
have any editable regions..." However, Code Validation and Template
Syntax Check return no errors. Moving the body tag out of the
editable region corrects the problem. Here is a sample template:

  • Design view (CS3) is completely highlighted - can't edit content

On one of the websites I have developed, when I go to Design view and click on the content I want to revise, all content and photos are highlighted, so I can't just edit one word or sentence.  I have to go to Code view and search for that content in order to change it, meaning I don't have the ease of adding links in the Design view, etc.  One of the web pages with this problem is:  http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/about/education.asp, which validates.  The CSS is http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/css/greenkarat.css, which also validates.  Below is a screen print of the design view that doesn't allow me to edit.  How can I clear this up?  Thank you.  P.S.  If I "temporarily" remove one of the closing div tags - </div>, I can then edit in the Design view, but I need to add the div tag back in before I upload the file to the server.  If the div tag is not added back in, the page does not validate

    http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/about/education.asp is a dead link (404 error).
Can you re-upload so we can see the page?

  • Editing Text in Dreamweaver Display View

I have just started using Dreamweaver CS4. In older versions
of Dreamweaver, I'm used to seeing text in Display view and being
able to edit the text directly in Display view, rather than having
to edit text in Code view. But when I'm trying to edit text in
Display view on a webpage that has text in a scrollable window,
Dreamweaver does not allow me to scroll down the scroll box, so I
can't edit text that is lower down in the scrollable area.
Anybody have an idea on how I can accomplish this?
    Thanks very much.
    Jason

    That would be the way....

  • Design View Appearing Blank

    Hello All:
I apologize that my first post is a question. I have searched
and cannot seem to find an answer to this. I am a new Dreamweaver
user but have been handcoding for ~7 years. I am self taught with
Dreamweaver so I may very well have done something wrong.
I created a template and everything worked fine in design
view and otherwise until I transfered said template to another
computer. On that other computer (and now on this one), my template
simple shows the background color (grey) instead of the rest of the
page. Oddly, when I put text in design view, it places it in the
first editable region on the template, which is around the body
tag. In Design view, it also shows up completely as an editable
region even though there is a <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
there to end the editable region.
When I open any of the pages in Firefox/IE5-6/Opera on
various operating systems I have absolutely no problem viewing and
navigating the site, and there are no javascript errors.
Am I doing something wrong? I can provide a screen shot of
both the working page and the non-working design view. My HTML is
not validatable but that is not of concern at the moment.
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Eric

You cannot place the body tag into an editable region using
    DW's UI. You
can do it manually, of course, with the consequences you
    describe.
If you want to edit the attributes of the body tag, there are
    several ways -
what is it you are wanting to do?
