Even if I have the selection unticked in the settings, Firefox 3.6 will still switch immediately to a link I open in a new tab!

In the tabs menu there is an option (last on the list) that if selected, when you open a link in a new tab, it switches immediately to it. I have the option '''unticked''', so basically even if I right click on a link and select 'open in new tab' I DON'T want to switch to it immediately but keep browsing on the same page until I want to visit that new link I opened at a later time. I don't know why but whenever I'm using Facebook or Youtube or w/e, this feature fails to follow my ''''choice'''' and I keep being directed to the new opened tab.

Current browser: Mozilla Firefox version 3.6.16 on: Windows Vista Home SP2, 32-bit.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I'm using FF 34.0.5 (I like it). I use to be able to right click on a link, within an e-mail, and the link would open in a new tab. Now when I click on the link it opens in the same tab replacing my e-mail.
Example - a friend sends me an e-mail containing a link to a web site he thinks I'd like. I click on the link and go to the web site and then go back to the e-mail tab and reply to him. Now, when clicking that link, my e-mail disappears and is replaced by the new site.
How can I fix this? When this happened once before I was told to change the 'value' for a specific 'preference name' through the about:config page.
Can anyone help jog my memory?

Mine appear in gray, too; I think that's just the style.
Does this problem occur on all pages? (If it only appears on YouTube or other pages with Flash players, it may be related to keystrokes being captured by the plugin.)
A standard diagnostic for possible interference by add-ons is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using

Any link that isn't a button, opens in a new tab.

I don't know of this behavior being changed just by going to Firefox 4.0, basically this is difficult to do if you want that behavior.

Try bringing up Firefox once in "'''Safe Mode'''" to see if that behavior disappears. Every time I click a link, it opens in a new tab instead of the existing one.

Whenever I left click on any link, Firefox opens the link in a new tab. Previously it would only open a link in a new tab if I either middle clicked, or right clicked and specifically selected 'Open Link in New Tab.'

This may be because the site is instructing the browser to open them in a new tab (I know, it's a big usability issue, but the web is still young...). Can you try it on other browsers and see what happens? If the same happens, yes, it's probably the site that's telling the browser to open the link in another tab.

With FF15 on Win7, when I click a Google Reader link (that open in a new tab when clicked, target="_blank" style), the new tab opens for a second, then closes.

The tab will not crash if I right-click, open in new tab, or middle click. Other sites with target="_blank" seem to be ok with left click (Google+ links for example). But Google Reader links seem to be completely broken.

Seems to be an adblock plus issue in my case. When I disable adblock it never happens. When I enable it this occurs on most links on google, twitter or reddit. Somehow seems them as pop ups I guess. Probably will have to fiddle with adblock plus.

When I open a link a new window opens with the toolbar and sidebar missing, on my previous machine the link simply opened in a new tab (not window).

On Windows when I open a (any) link it open in a new tab. It should open in the same tape since I not clicking the "middle click". Doesn't do this on Linux. Why is this happening how to fix this?

This is more about your modem then anything. Sometimes you'll need to unplug and plug back in your modem. Consider it a glitch from the ISP or just the modem in general.
when I need to turn something off then on I try the modem first. This when I'm not doing any ware and tare to the device.
