Even our new modem connects to the internet only briefly and at slow speeds, if it connects at all
After nearly four years usually acceptable DSL service, our connection started getting too slow to email photos or steam anything, especially during peak hours. After several live chats and phone calls we got a new modem, and things are even worse, even after a marathon support call last night. After restarting the modem we sometimes get a few minutes of service, sometimes with download speeds in excess of 1.0 Mbps, but usually in between 0.20 and 0.40 Mbps. A few minutes after this, though, any device loses the internet; a few minutes later, the internet light on the modem goes dark. The DSL light stays solid throughout. But for the most part we're spending lots of time and money in exchange for a few minutes of slow DSL at a time. We've registered the new modem online, changed wireless channels, tried using an Ethernet cables, tried different jacks, disconnected the phone, cleaned browser caches. Modems just won't maintain an internet connection for more than a few minutes any more. What else can I try?
It seems your issue is most likely outside your home. have you tried connecting the modem to the NID and testing ? This will help isolate the issue. If the problems persists it may be an issue at the Central office. I would try to get a tech to your home ASAP and also contact Customer service & ask for a credit. When I had a similar issue a 24 hour monitor was implemented by upper level support.
Do you know how far you are from the CO you are; and how old the wirng from the CO to your home is? Good Luck!

Hello, I am sitting here in the middle of Siberia with my brand new Airport Extreme and it connects to the Internet only if it is in Bridge Modus - unfortunately I have also no idea what IP address range the provide has for me ... back in Europe this would work by itself and I do not have a DNS server, which I assume does not help either - any suggestions?
OK - by now I solved the problem - honestly, I did not solve it myself, it solved itself in a miraculous way ... anyway, here what happened: I searched the web for solutions concerning a potential incompatibility of my airport express and the Motorola SB5101E and found a description ... but, for what ever reasons it did not work. So finally I gave up and:
1) Disconnected the Airport express from the modem
2) Connected my Mac Mini to the Airport Express
3) Set the Airport Express up for WLan using HDCP/NAP (in order to be able to utilize my apple TV for at least this Sunday evening)
4) Disconnected my Mac Mini from the Airport Express
5) Connected all my devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac Mini, etc.) to the WLan
6) Reconnected the Airport Express to the Modem
7) Now I am using all devices via WLan and it works
So, to me it sesames that there was a conflict between the Mac Mini being the one to configure the Airport Express and trying to get access to the Internet through it via cable at the same time, which might fit to an article about some IP address conflicts and the need to set up a virtual access and so on that I did not fully understand ... Anyway, it worked! -

That's right, wifi is free around the whole world (except if you have to pay to access a protected network). It doesn't matter whether you're with ATT or Verizon. Beaware to turn off Cellular and Data Roaming as it is very costly if you don't have an int'l plan. I think the cheapest ATT int'l plan at this moment is $25 for 50MB.
Also, you can text anywhere in the world for 50 cents with cellular and data roaming off. At this rate, you're not going to be popping 50 text messages back and forth, but for a few, I find it to be very reasonable. It's cheaper to text a fellow traveler than to call him/her at int'l phone rates. The cheapest text plan is 50 messages for $10. See ATT.com for other plans.
Another option to consider is Skype. With a wifi signal, you can call anywhere in the world for about 2 cents a minute. When I set my Skype account up, they required a $10 prepayment. At 2 cents a minute, that's 500 minutes. While I think I set my Skype account up from Europe, I think it might be easier to do it here. Skype works great on both my iPad and my IP. -
I have tried 4 days to get iTunes 10.4 working on my Win7 x64 machine. I purchased a new iPhone4 and after syncing it the first time, I can't connect to the iTunes store.
When I try to run iTunes Help, I get this message "iTunes Help is unavailable because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet." However IE9 and Google Chrome run as always...... no connection problems.
I have already uninstalled IE9 x64 and iTunes 10.4 x64 and reinstalled but still the same. I followed all the instructions I could find about firewalls, ports, SSL etc.

Cannot connect to the internet via wifi and mobile data
im having hard time connecting to the internet even if wifi has a very strong signal as indicated on the phone..i tried every solution that i found in the internet but to no avail..i tried restarting my phone..i tried turning the airplane mode on then switching the wifi on but still unsuccessful..even mobile data isnt working..i configured the apn manually applying the recommendations of the network provider but its still offline..how am i gonna connect to the internet..help me pls..thanks

MacBook Air freezes when connected to the Internet. (LAN and WiFi)
I have a MacBook Air A1304 running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
When it connects to the AirLive Duo router set as Client + AP (bridges the wifi signal from the DSL), it freezes up.
Wifi works fine with the iPad. I tried the wifi and LAN and I get the same results. I don't even have to be surfing, just being connected to the Internet will freezes the whole MBA after about a minute.
AirLive tested their router with their MacBook for two days but didn't have any problem. I run the latest firmware for the router too.macbook pro speed

I'm not entirely displeased with the situation but I cannot see how I could be connecting to the Internet through my airport express when the Airport is not connected to anything.

I have a separate non- Airport wireless network connected to the Internet. I had previously set-up the Airport to link with this network but disconnected it (by resetting it) as music streaming was unlistenable due to frequent drop out. I now just have the Airport Express as a standalone wireless network only connecting to the stereo to stream music from devices.
My devices are only connected to the Airport network with cellular data off. Yet I can still connect to the Internet AND listen to streaming music (without drop-out no less).
I don't want to fix it but I would like to know how the frag it could happen so i don't screw it up accidentally.I would say you still have something of the previous setup.
To be sure you don't mess up, save the configuration.. go to the top menu area of the airport utility and export configuration.. which will land on your computer.
Now you can recover at anytime to the current setup.
How it works.. that is magical ..

It is connected to the net as dropbox registers a connection and so does skype. I can connect to the WiFi in work and on other networks when travelling. However, some other networks are now starting to fail. Can anyone suggets how I can fix it, as the MBP appears to be fine, its updated with all the latest versions of software and the WiFi network is also fine....just not with my MBP??

I have updated my MB to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - I know this means I am a little behind the times but the problems I am now having seem to justify my reluctance. Now am unable to connect to the internet! I use a time capsule connected via a router. Everything is still OK with every other device (PC, I phone, Ipod) in the house so I know the "Network" is still enabled and there is no problem with the ISP. Strangley whenever I boot up the MB it appears to freeze the network such that the other devices also will then not access the internet. To regain access I have to turn off the MB and reset the router. Any help gratefully recieved as I have tried some of the ideas i have found in the internet but nothing is working. Thanks.
That's odd.
Try this: Unplug your Time Capsule and your router. On your MBP, click the Wi-Fi icon and select "Open Network Preferences".
Click the lock icon to authenticate, then click the "gear" and select "set service order". Wherever AirPort (or Wi-Fi - I forget what Snow Leopard calls it) appears, drag it elsewhere in the list. Click OK, then Apply, then power up your router and TC.
If that doesn't result in any change, repeat the above but try making the service(s) you do not need "inactive".
The purpose of this is to reset or at least change your Network Preferences, which somehow got confused upon upgrading to SL. -
I just rented a movie today of itunes and it is in my rentals however this is my first time renting a movie and i tried to sync it onto my ipod touch version: 4.2.1, (I am going on holiday tomorrow and need it on my ipod before then). I go onto my syncing page and go to movies and my rentals are there and i can move them across to my ipod but underneath it says - 'You must be connected to the internet to transfer rented films' but the thing is i am connected and when i click apply it tries to sync it but then they go back to where they were. PLEASE HELP - i need it done tonight because i wanted to watch them on the plane tomorrow

I used to always use my personal hotspot and connect to the internet on my laptop. Then one day it stopped working. I updated my phone so my hotspot password changed, so I changed that in the properties. It now says it's connected to my iPhone and there's internet access, but when I try to do anything it says not connected.
It shows a connection. When using wifi n USB. I don't know how to connect using Bluetooth seeing what it says to do is totally different from my computer.
I do have a connection but I can only connect to some sites, I tried YouTube n nfl.com n they both worked but google, hotmail n Facebook said couldn't connect.
I tried using safari on my computer n like explorer I could only connect to a few different websites. -
Mozillla will no longer connect to the internet. Chrome and IE connect fine.
Everytime I open Mozilla it says I can't connect to the internet, but other browsers load it fine. I like Mozilla, but if this is going to be an ongoing issue, I'd rather not use it anymore.

Generally if Firefox can't connect, but other applications can, it's a configuration problem with a [[Firewalls|software firewall]], either one you installed yourself, one that was included with other security software, or the built-in Windows Firewall. -
When my brand new MacBookPro awakes from sleep it has lost its internet connection. It goes to Network Diagnostics and I need to step through all the pages to get to the end where it says connection is o.k. Is this a bug in Lion or could it be a corrupt file migrated over from my old MacBook Pro which would frequently lose its Airport connection and couldn't be reconnected until it cooled down. (This one always shows full bars on the Airport indicator).
That's definitely just paranoia. First, because in sleep mode, there's no internet connection. The computer might as well be turned off as far as the network is concerned, and there's no activity in the computer other than a bare trickle of electricity to maintain the RAM. The processor is doing nothing.
Second, Macs are quite difficult to hack, and if you're on a wireless network, the wireless router protects you from incoming attacks from the outside world.
Of course, you should be able to leave Safari open with no open windows and not affect your ability to get online when it wakes up. If you can reproduce that reliably, and if I can as well (haven't had a chance to try it yet), then it should be reported to Apple. -
Satellite L735 won't connect to the internet (both wired and wireless)

I have a brand new Satellite L735, and I'm having a lot of trouble with the internet connections.
When I connect it to a wireless network it finds the profile and connects to it but then still says "no internet access" for both IPv4 qnd IPv6 connectivity statuses.
I have tried troubleshooting, turing off the computer and wireless network and back on, but it's stil not working.
The same happens with the workplace wireless, despite other computers connecting to it fine (so it doesn't come from the networks). I've also tried connecting it at work with an ethernet cable but no luck.
I have the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless network adapter and the Atheros AR8152/8158 PCI-E Fast ethernet controller.
I'm not sure what to do as the laptop is new and so it shouldn't need updates, all the settings are default, etc. I'd very much appreciate any help on this!Hi
Uninstall or disable the TCP/IPv6 and use only the TCP/IPv4 protocol.
Furthermore check if in TCP/IPv4 properties the IP address and other settings are set to assign automatically
Furthermore I would recommend checking the firewall and some security applications which could be preinstalled on the notebook.
It could be possible that antivirus or firewall prevent the notebook from connecting to internet. -

My name is Norbert. I am having some difficulties restoring my icloud back up. My ipad was doing an icloud back up and the alert message displayed on the ipad after my internet was interrupted "A wi-fi connection is required to download your apps and media".
I got the internet working, my ipad is receiving internet network but the alert message is still displayed on the ipad and won't go away, to make matters worse the ipad is frozen and i can't do anything.
Please can anyone with a similar experience tell me what to do in this situation?
