OK, there is a setting to make the Mac discoverable ...in System Preferences / Bluetooth there is a 'Discoverable' tick box - is it selected?
Oh, maybe I've misunderstood - you want your Mac to be discoverable by what? The iPhone, or something else?

I have been asked several times if I want to redownload ML and answered yes, but nothing appears to happen and nothing installs. Somewhat surprisingly my internet service provider howevere has infrmed me I have exceeded my download limt today ( which suggests I have downloaded multiple copies of ML file, but I cannot find any evidence on my hard drive of where it has gone. Problem resolved itself. Turned out that I had ben unable to contact the App store to confirm purchase. Once this resolved itself program downloaded properly and installation went without a hitch.

My macbook pro has been stolen and i had icloud and find my mac installed. If the thief was to wipe my harddrive and use internet recovery, will my find my mac still work?

Hey guys, so I recently had my macbook pro stolen. I had my find my mac turned on and i was wondering if i could still track my laptop if the thief wiped my hard drive and the recovery partition, but if they reinstalled the mountain lion osx from the internet recovery would that erase the find my mac feature? Yes, if the wiped the drive Find My Mac would no longer work. The can't reinstall Mountain Lion without your Apple ID or an Apple ID of their own.

If you are using 10.7, you should have a recovery partition, now. Installing 10.8 will install or update the recovery partition if it can. If you have a drive partitioning scheme setup that prevents the recovery partition from being added, then I don't think 10.8 will change that.

There is no way that you can locate the iphone at all.
The thief can restore it and use it as their own. You will never know or be able to tell what they do with it.

Did you log out of one account and into the other or just used Fast user switching?
Is the permissions set to anyone?
When you move data to teh Shared folder is it copied or just moved?
If copied then it's not a folder both can access, just a way station like a USB thumb drive that things are coped too and off of likely.
You can run this #5 on each user account to reset the user permissions once they are taken back out of the Shared folder
