Event 672 audit failure after migration to hosted Exchange

I recently migrated a company to hosted Exchange.  They had been previously using in-house Exchange 2003 (on SBS 2003).  Exchange has been removed form the server and the 2003 SBS server is still running as the DC.
Right after the migration the server began to recieve Error 672 failure audits, 1000s per day.
I suspect these can be safely ignored, but is there a way to stop them as they show up on daily security reports.

Hi Ken,
I suspect these can be safely ignored, but is there a way to stop them as they show up on daily security reports.
We can stop audit failure events from being logged in Event Viewer by editing audit policy. More specifically, we can set the Group Policy setting
Audit logon events to not to audit logon failure
(uncheck the Failure checkbox), here is a screenshot below:

  • 2012 R2 Generation 2 VM Boot Failure after Migration

I have encountered an issue after migrating virtual machines to a new host. It happens whether the VM has been moved with live migration or though a shutdown, export, import process.
The hosts are both 2012 R2 Datacenter. The virtual machines are Generation 2 and also have 2012 R2 Datacenter. All the systems where installed with the April ISO. The only difference between the hosts is that one only has no other updates. The other has
all recommended and optional updates as off 2014-10-10.
Once the machine has migrated to the updated host the next time it attempts to boot up (after a restart, ect.) it will fail with one of these two messages.
This happens whether the virtual machine has updates or is a fresh install from the April ISO. Once the machine is migrated back to the host that does not have any updates it will boot back up without any issues.
    Notes:
The virtual machines where created on the host without any updates.
When creating a new virtual machine on the host with updates the 2012 R2 ISO bluescreens.
I setup another host machine without updates, tested migration to it and then ran updates. Same issue occurs.
I have tried boot with and without secure boot enabled also tries it with drive signature enforcement disabled. No change either.
This does not happen with generation 1 machines.
What I am trying to figure out is, if it truly is an update issue which update might it be so that it can be avoided? It would also be interesting to figure out if there is a workaround to get affect virtual machines to boot back up.
Let me know what your ideas are or if there are any other tests you would like me to provide.

I would like to thank you for your suggestions. It wasn't the updates that where causing the problem, it is actually a side effect of them requiring a restart. In addition to running updates on the new host servers, I also added a second network card.
The virtual machines are stored on an SMB 3.0 file share. When the server gets restarted SMB 3.0 finds and starts using that second network card in a multichannel configuration. (There are two physical cards / 3 ports / 3 vlans).
I found this out when I looked at the multichannel configuration on the server without updates, but had this network card installed. It wasn't using it at all. After a restart of that server the VM's where exhibiting the same broken behavior. Simply disabling
that network card on the machine got them to work again. The server with updates, because it had been restarted already, was trying to use this network card in SMB 3.0 multichannel.
It just happened to be a coincidence of timing. On the other hand the issue moves to why this second NIC would be causing these issues. I am not entirely sure if it actually has to do with SMB verses something with Hyper-V and the network card. After the
restart the saved state of VM's on it failed to start. Removing the saved state and trying to boot them resulted in the same digital signature error. However, like I mentioned, disabling the network card worked. Virtual machines with
save states restored themselves and those without them also would boot. Again, I will post what I figure out.
    Thanks again,
    Kevin

  • ActiveSync is not working properly after migrating to new Exchange 2013 SP1 server?!

Few weeks ago we have added new Exchange 2013 SP1 onto our existing Exchange 2007 environment. I have migrated my mailbox to the new Ex2013 server. Everything (send/receive - internally/externally, OWA, OutlookAnywhere) for me and the existing Ex2007
users works fine. The only thing I have trouble with is the ActiveSync! After migrating to the new Ex2013 server my phone stops getting new emails…, existing Ex2007 users don’t have any problems with their mobile phones.
I did ActiveSync test for my user account with ActiveSync Tester and here is what I have:
As you can see from the error above  ActiveSync Tester detects ActiveSync on Ex2013 server however something wrong there with form-based auth?! I can’t see any differences in settings for ActiveSync virtual folders in Ex2007 and Ex2013
    virtual folders?!
What I’m missing here?! Please help.

Check if the Exchange Servers group does not have the appropriate permission to the mailbox object in Active Directory.
To check whether inheritance is disabled on the user:
1.Open Active Directory Users and Computers.
2.On the menu at the top of the console, click View > Advanced Features.
3.Locate and right-click the mailbox account in the console, and then click Properties.
    4.Click the Security tab.
    5.Click Advanced.
6.Make sure that the check box for "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" is selected.

  • Google Apps migration to Hosted Exchange

    Hi,
We have recently migrated from Gmail to Hosted Exchange. For historical data we setup mailboxes to download Gmail using IMAP then we exported these into PSTs.
We imported the PSTs into the users new Exchange accounts (Aware no calendar/contacts at this stage)- what we have found now is the Gmail reference folders, which is expected, but when you right click on it it still has 'IMAP Folder'. When we go back into
the account we cant see any IMAP links, and considering this was imported with PST surely these would've been lost (that's what I expected).
The issue now is you cant freely drag and drop as the IMAP is causing permission issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I find a related article about "Migrate from Gmail to Office 365 in 7 steps":
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn568114.aspx
Even if it isn't Hosted Exchange server, the information maybe helped.
Please paste the detailed errors when can't drag and drop.

  • ActiveSync Failures After Migration to Exchange 2013

    Hi all,
I am having an issue with ActiveSync a single mailbox that has been migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013. After the mailbox was migrated to 2013 it continued to sync as normal for a week or so. After removing the exchange 2007 server (uninstalled exchange) from
the topology, the user could no longer sync.
This is not the inherit permissions in AD issue. I had a user with that issue but this one is different.
It appears to have something to do with the app pools. The following article provides a script to recycle the app pools, when I run this, the issue is resolved but only temporarily. Within 20 mins or so, the issue returns for the user. Running the script
again works but again, it is only temporary.
    http://www.expta.com/2014/04/fix-for-exchange-activesync-failures.html
Can anyone tell me why this fix only works momentarily? Is there any way (besides running the script constantly) to make the fix stick?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Instead of restarting App pool, I would suggest looking at the IIS logs on the Client Access Server and check for the entries for this user.
If you notice either throttling/something wrong with this user's connection, troubleshoot in that direction.
also look at Event logs to see if there are any problems with App pools creating Watson dumps. (event ID 4999, 1003 etc)

  • SQL Loader failure after migration from 9.2.0.7 to 10.2.0.3

    Hi,
The following is the error comming up when trying to load the data using SQL Loader in 10g.
**SQL*Loader-704: Internal error: ulnain: error occurred on good insert [-1]**
**SQL*Loader-2026: the load was aborted because SQL Loader cannot continue.**
the same data file is getting loaded sucessfully in 9i whith out any issues.
can any one kindly suggest on how to go about this issue.

From what I've found one cause of this error can be due to the way your client is connecting to the server. There was an issue when using Citrix, for example, that was remedied in 10.2.0.3. However, without more details it would be difficult to diagnose this specific situation. I would suggest filing a service request as noted above. Thanks.

we have two lists work order list and estimation list. we developed infopath form for work order list , in that we have work order field we don't enter the value of that field after filling the all fields when i clicked save button work order ID field
will generate automatically and estimation hyper link will generate.when i click on estimation link estimation list will open, inthat list we have work order id filed it has to generate automatically(It will fetch the data from work order list). For generating

  • Kerberos audit failures, ~38-42 events PER MINUTE

We have a server running "Windows Server Standard FE" 64bit SP2 (I know, embarrassing). The issue is that our Security log is getting FLOODED with audit failures from Kerberos Service Ticket Operations. We will see 38 all with the EXACT same time-stamp,
then sometimes the next minute will have another 40, sometimes it's a 5 minute gap, sometimes it's a more random gap but regardless it never waits too long before another huge burst of failures. We actually have the issues on other machines running newer system
(2k3, 2k8) but this one is hands down the most troublesome.
Honestly I might be out of my depth here as I'm really not too keen on Kerberos ticket requests, but any information around this would be greatly appreciated to help me investigate the issue further. These errors haven't actually led to any problems or other
errors, just bug the heck out of me when checking audits.
A Kerberos service ticket was requested.

This event is generated every time access is requested to a resource such as a computer or a Windows service. The service name indicates the resource to which access was requested.
This event can be correlated with Windows logon events by comparing the Logon GUID fields in each event. The logon event occurs on the machine that was accessed, which is often a different machine than the domain controller which issued the service ticket.
Ticket options, encryption types, and failure codes are defined in RFC 4120.

  • 4265 Audit Failure: NTLM Authentication Issue from constant Outlook Login Prompts

    Hello Technet!
Last week I started running into a domain-wide issue where users could authenticate while connected to the domain, but would receive prompts to log in to our external host. The first prompt is for mail.domain.local, which works fine inside the office, and
the second is owa.domain.com, which continually fails.
On the second prompt, the Exchange 2007 server (on Server 2008 R2) reports the following error:
    Log Name: Security
    Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing
    Date: 3/19/2015 9:10:19 AM
    Event ID: 4625

    Authentication Package: NTLM
    Transited Services: -
    Package Name (NTLM only): -
    Key Length: 0
This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.
The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.
The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).
The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.
The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.
The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
    - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
    - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
    - Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.
I've gone through quite a few attempted fixes already, all to no effect:
    1. I've both added BackChannelHostName to the server's registry, as well as described here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/896861
    2. Verified SSL Cert status
    3. Internal and External OWA URI is set to owa.domain.com in EWC
    4. Set up the IIS7 authentication and SSL settings to their defaults, as described here: http://msexchangeguru.com/2010/10/05/autodiscover/
    5. I added a SRV record for autodiscover on our DC to correct an EXPR auth issue: https://acbrownit.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/internal-dns-and-exchange-autodiscover/
Despite all these things, I haven't yet seemed to scratch whatever itch Exchange is having. All of the client Outlooks will get the prompt for owa.domain.com, even though their mail is working because they're in the office or on VPN. For whatever reason,
the Mac Outlook 2011 users cannot authenticate to the mail server at all, so they are the ones hit the hardest by this issue.
Any insight everyone here at TechNet can offer would be appreciated. Every fix and workaround I've looked at has either changed nothing, or pointed to something that was already configured properly. If there are details missing that I could offer to provide
a better idea of the problem, please let me know. Thank you.

    Hi,
Yes, it may be caused by the security updates on March 10, 2015. Please refer to the known issue in the following KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3002657
Please remove the security patch on the DC and restart server to have a try. Additionally, here is a similar thread for your reference:

  • An account failed to log on unknown username or password. Causing Login audit failures

I have a SBS11 Essentials server that is getting audit Failures over and over again. There computer account says it's the SBS11 server it's self.  It says unknown user name or bad password. I have checked for scheduled tasks, backup jobs, services and
non of them are using any special user accounts.  I have used MS network monitor and can't find anything helpful to lead to the issue.  All computers in the network are running Windows 7.  The domain functional level is 2008 R2.
I get a the 4768 event ID about a Kerberos event and then just after I get a Event ID 4625 account failure with Logon Type 3.  I have includes the events below.  I need to figure what is causing the audit failures as my GFI Test Hacker alert is
catching it every morning.  Disabling the Test Hacker alert is not a option.  I have used Process Explorer also but can't seem to pin it down.  I also enabled Kerberos logging.

Well I opened the case for him and he never followed up with Microsoft :-(
It's a kerberos issue, we're told to ignore it.  Would you be willing to be patient and stubborn and work with CSS to at least understand what's going on better?  I can tell you it's normal with Essentials but not the exact technical reason it's
    happening.
Unfortunately TechNet isn't coming back, sorry folks :-(

  • Can't Subscribe to Google Calendars after Migration to Mountain Lion

I had my work Google canendars synciing fine with iCal on my old desktop running Lion.  After migrating to a new Mac Book with Mountain Lion, I cannot subscribe to my gCal's.  The error I get is "Server With Secure Communication Unavalable", which makes no sence.
    I've tried:
Chosing to use the calendar when adding the gMail account to Mail.app
Enabling the Calendar under the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" Preference pane
Adding the account using Calendar.app's Preferences.
The suggestions I've been able to find don't apply, because we are not using Google's two-step validation.
Did Mountain Lion break something with the Google-Apps flavor of gCal?  Is there a way to add via URL?  I tried that using Safari, but it did not work well (created a iCloud Calendar, wouldn't allow me to change the assigned color and repeatedly threw an error for the same over a year-old event despite clicking the "Ignore" button).
    Ray

Found a work-around.  I don't know if this applies to all Google calendars, or just the Google-Apps ones:
Add the calendar as a generic CalDAV calendar.  Use your full (hosted) gMail address as the username and www.google.com as the server address.
Interrestingly, ML matched this up to the main Google account in the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" Preference Pane

    Any help would be appreciated.

    @Pace0214
I need a little more info on your environment to get a feel for what may be going on.  How many domain controllers are you using?  How many sites do you have?  How are they configured, i.e., hub and spoke, spanned, etc.? Do you have DC's
in the sites?  Are you using AD integrated DNS or some other method?  These are the big ones that come to mind.
Mr. X has got you looking in the right places, these types of errors are usually DNS or IP configuration related.  AD uses subnets to find everything that DNS doesn't.  It is what clients use to locate a DC to authenticate against and unless
properly configured, you will get these types of errors.

  • Windows 7 Security Audit Failure message 6281 & Security Kernel

OS:  Windows 7 Home Premium Ver 6.1 Build 7601 SP 1
    Toshiba Satellite C655
I received a Windows 7 Security pop-up saying there was a Kernel mismatch and asked if I wanted to proceed.  Not thinking - i hit yes.  Looking through the Security Audit Log - I found an audit failure with 6281 System Integrity Error.  I
    am assuming they are related.
Any idea what have I done and what do I need to check/do to recover?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Please upload us the full error messages here, we need more information to narrow down the cause. Then check into
Event Viewer, see if any other errors logged.
Besides, check to see if there are any devices have new drivers need to update.
Mostly this error is caused by the "Realtek Audio HD driver", please check to see if we have any related devices.

I will have to shut down & start the proxy server. Then, browsing is back to normal. In one day, this problem can happen more than 2 times.
Error log shows some errors like "Warning: event_handler: Failed to wait on events The handle is invalid." "Failure: StartConnectToHost: connect failed (error: 10055)" Anyone can help? Thanks.

    try reinstalling the server....
that usually helps. don't forget to save your settings, i.e., writing them down or save the .conf file.
