Event 70, SharePoint Foundation Search

I have SBS 2011. SharePoint was disabled because we are not using it. Due to constant warnings and errors in eventlog I decided to turn on sharepoint and just leave it. Some errors still remain. SharePoint version is 14.0.7106.5002 (SP2 I guess?). I noticed
that database status for WSS_Search_<server> [Type: SPSearchDatabase] is "Database is too old and upgrade is required". I google arround and can't find any solution. How can I upgrade this database?
[UPDATE] Googling arround I noticed that there must be some search service related to search database. I checked sharepint admin. central  and under services I see only two: app. discovery and security token service. I must say that we don't use and
never used sharepoint - just want to get rid of event errors/warnings regarding sharepoint. So, should there be search service? is this database obsolete? [END OF UPDATE]
Regards,
Peter

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got the error ’ Database is too old and upgrade is required’.
The issue is that the help search database was out of sync and hasn’t been used in the environment.
You need to PowerShell to update SPSearch database. Please refer to:
Database is too old upgrade is required
In addition, you need to find the databases that need upgrading and upgradall type of databases using psconfig.exe.
Here is a article for you to take a look at:
Databases require upgrade or not supported.
Thank you for your understanding.

  • Sharepoint Foundation - search working for some users (or computers), but not others

    Hi all,
We have doozy of a search problem with SharePoint Foundation 2010 that I'm hoping someone can help with.
We have an application that is listening on port 14197 and search is working just fine, but only for one or two users.
If I do a search while logged in using the account we set the application up with then the search works fine and it returns records as expected.
If I use a different account - one that has full control over the app, then the exact same search fails with the following message:
We did not find any results for 06BSL.
    Suggestions:
    Ensure words are spelled correctly.
Try using synonyms or related searches.
Try broadening your search by searching from a different site.
    Additional resources:
Get additional search tips by visiting Search Help
If you cannot find a page that you know exists, contact your administrator.
We've done everything we can think of, including several procedures to create new search accounts, replace databases, etc.
Nothing has helped and all of the info we can find online is in relation to getting search working when it doesn't work at all.  In our case it is working, but only for some users.  We thought it might have been a permissions issue, but not matter
what permissions we seem to give to test accounts they still don't work.  We've set up a test account, for example, that is a member of the 'application owners' group, but cannot produce any search results with it.
The SharePoint Foundation server is running on Windows 2008 Server Foundation, with a separate SBS 2003 DC.
    Any help most appreciated.

Hi Alex, thanks for your response and apologies about the late reply - didn't realise someone had responded until now!
Agreed that this looks like a permissions issue, but we're stumped as to what it could be.  The 'test' account displays this problem - if we try and search on 06BSL
we get no results, but it does appear that this account has full control over this document (see below).
Note that the 'Manage Permissions' page presents a comment 'This list item inherits permissions from its parent. (Customer QA & Product Management)' which is what we're
    expecting.
The indexing schedule is set to 5 minutes.
Appreciate your help with this, as we've spent a huge amount of time on this problem but don't seem to be any closer to a resolution.
    Cheers,
    Damian
Check permissions result (this result is the same for the list or for the document itself):
Permission levels given to test (DOMAIN\test)
    Full Control
Given through the "QA Application Owners" group.
    Design, Contribute, Read
Given through the "QA Application Members" group.

  • SharePoint foundation search is not working in SP2010 Foundation version

    Hi,
I am using SharePoint Search2010 foundation version.
    CA->Application management->manageservices on server.
But I checked in CA->Manage web applications
How i need to configure search functionality for web application.
I tried to search in site collections the following message i am getting.
Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an indexer. Contact your administrator for more information.
Can you please any one help me on this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

Is this the default search service application that came with the original installation. In SP Foundation, you cannot create Search Service Applications. If you deleted the original, you'll have to reinstall from scratch to make it work...

  • SharePoint Foundation Search

    Hi,
It is possible to have in a enviroment of SP Foundation, the Search Service in a exclusive Server into the Farm?
    Thanks!

Right, you would want to modify the topology of the existing Search Service:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj862356.aspx
Generally you would want your Query/Index on the front end server, while the other components reside on a backend server.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 - Search Configuration Issue - 2 App Servers and 2 Front-End Servers

    Hi,
We have a SharePoint Foundation 2013 with SP1 Environment.
In that, we have 2 Front-End Servers and 2 App Servers. In the Front-End Servers, the Search Service is stopped and is in Disabled state and in the 2 App Servers in One App Server, Search is Online and in another Search is Starting but goes to Stopped sooon
    after.
Originally, we had only 1 App Server and we were running our Search Service and Search Service Application in that. Now since the index location became full and we were unable to increase the drive there, we added one more App Server and now the issue is
Search is not properly getting configured in either of these App servers. What we want to do is run Search only in the new App Server, because we have a lot of storage space for Index locations here, but in the older App Server, not run Search at all.  We
tried keeping the Search Service disabled and ran the below PowerShell Scripts, but none of the ones are working. These scripts are creating the Search Service Application, but the error of "Admin Component is not Online", "Could not connect
to the machine hosting SharePoint 2013 admin component" is coming up.

    Hi Karthick,
For your issue, could you provide the
detail error message of ULS log  to determine the exact cause of the error?
For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS
For troubleshooting your issue,  you can try to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard on your WFE servers and run the script for configuring the search service on SharePoint

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010: search error: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error."

    Hi,
I have SharePoint Foundation 2010 running on a single server with databases, with a second server in the farm serving as a 2nd app tier. Both server have the exact same versions of SharePoint loaded (according to the Central Admin site).
Whenever I try to run a search from any site in my SharePoint Foundation 2010 installation (in this example I typed "this is my query"), it hangs for 20-30 seconds while the IE status bar says:
    Waiting for http://SERVER2010:80/tfs/SITE1/_layouts/searchresults.aspx?k=this%20is%20my%20query&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftfs2010db%2Ftfs%2FSITE1
Then it finally returns a results screen with an error that says: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information."
Checking the SharePoint logs under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS, the relevant entries say the following (items I deem important

Not sure what "resource limit is reached" actually means. This SharePoint installation is running under regular SQL 2008 R2, and the
WSS_Content database is fairly small (10gig). I've reviewed the Search Service, the process account running it, the
WSS_SEARCH index database, and verified that the Content database is using the proper index database. Everything looks like it should be crawling/indexing/working fine. But the WSS_SEARCH
database isn't very large, so I'm not sure if the crawling is actually filling it with anything.
Not sure where to start seriously troubleshooting this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
The query ran in tens of seconds. This indicates that at some point a bad plan compiled and stayed in the cache.
It may have gotten there because the statistics were out of date.
A possible way to keep this from happening is to rebuild statistics with full scan more frequently.
Try free the proc cache and see the result.

  • Sharepoint 2013 search broken after upgrade from 2013 foundation to 2013 ent.

    Hello
I have tried many of the suggestions that I have found in the forums for this issue but non have worked as of yet.
I have sharepoint 2013  sp1 running on server 2012 R2 connected to SQL 2012 DB, which was upgrade from SharePoint foundation 2013. Everything is working with the exception of the search. the errors are below.
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (1d094485-eab9-458d-a363-4b5e8704048f).

For some reason this is using the farm account which is not the account used for the search service but has full access to the sites and databases. So I'm not sure what or where it is getting an access denied error. Is there any way to find what it is trying
to access? BTW I have disabled the loopback check, verified it has correct access to %windir%\tasks and recreated the search service many times, changed application pool accounts

    Hi  ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you encountered the error Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance
after you upgraded SharePoint 2013 Foundation to SharePoint Server 2013.
For troubleshooting your issue, please try adding the farm account  on the Server local administrator group and see if it is related to permission issue. Then try stopping the Timer Service, clearing
the Configuration Cache and restarting the Timer Service:

  • Team Foundation Server 2013 with SharePoint Foundation 2013 - Search not available?

    Hello,
we installed a TFS 2013  and let it deploy SharePoint Foundation on the same server. We are now faced with the fact that search in the teamsites is not working. I tried to get that search service up and running in a number of ways but it appears
as if there's no search service at all.
I have seen all the blogs where people are explaining how to provision a search service application for SharePoint Foundation but none of these ways work.
So, my question... is it possible to get it working?
PS. Please don't advice to post this on the TFS forum... I'm coming from there. They just closed my question as answered with the advice to post it in the SharePoint forum.
    TIA,
    Bart

    Well,
When you go to the Search Settings in the Site Actions menu of a site, a message is displayed that there's no search Service. Which is kind of normal since there's no Search Service Application provisioned.
When I go to Central Administration => Services on Server => There's no Search Service.
When I go to Central Administration and I run the configuration wizard, there's no search service application to be provisioned.
There's a Search Administration section in the General Settings but it only displays the upper section. The lower section (with the Search Service Application information) just gives me nothing. An animated loading icon.
I tried to provision the services with psconfig (psconfig -cmd services -install) but there's still no search service to be found anywhere. After this, I do have a Search Host Controller service but when I try to start it in Central Administration, it just
    gives me an error.
I'm starting to think it's not a full SharePount Foundation which is shipped with TFS.
The only thing we want to achieve is that a user can search for a document he uploads in a team site which is created by TFS. Seems not possible... unless I'm missing something here.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 -- How to add the document property option in default search template

    Dear All

    1) Add the view property in Search Managed properties through central administration
    2) I found one solution that shows me the .html files in SPD Catalog search template, that i did not found in the respective place. (there is no reason why its not there)

Display templates are not available in SharePoint Foundation. You must use SharePoint Server.

  • Sharepoint foundation 2013 Search Service Application.

    Hi all,
I want to configure search application for sharepoint foundation 2013. I have followed some of the web links.
But did not get success. Can you please provide me the working example of how to configure search application and run the crawl. And make sure the search is working correctly.
    Thanks  in advance for help.

    Hi Vishwajeet,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to configure SharePoint Foundation 2013 Search service application.
In SharePoint Foundation 2013, we cannot add the Search Service to SharePoint Foundation 2013 from the Central Administration GUI after selecting a manual configuration method. It seems that the ONLY way you can add the Search Service to SharePoint Foundation
2013 is by using the SharePoint Configuration Wizard.
More information, please refer to the link:

  • Provision Search in SharePoint Foundation 2013 without Domain Controller / Active Directory - Domain accounts

    Hi,
I have successfully setup SharePoint Foundation 2013 as single server farm with SQL Server Standard database in a DMZ environment using local accounts since DMZ doesn't have an Active Directory and hence Domain accounts using powershell as described
    in https://theblobfarm.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/installing-sharepoint-2013-without-a-domain-controller
When I run Farm configuration wizard to provision search service application, I get an error:
ERROR: "The service application(s) for the service "Search Service Application" could not be provisioned because of the following error: I/O error occurred."
The log file logged the details of this error as:
ERROR: "Failed to create file share Analytics_e441aa1c-1a8d-4f0a-a079-58b499eb4c50 at D:\SharePoint Search\Office Server\Analytics_e441aa1c-1a8d-4f0a-a079-58b499eb4c50 (System.ArgumentException: The SDDL string contains an invalid sid or a sid
    that cannot be translated."
After investigation, I found that potentially the error could be because the timer service is trying to setup a network share for analytics component (as part of provisioning search). It is trying to setup that share with a domain account that happens to
be a local user instead in this case and fails with error “System.ArgumentException: The SDDL string contains an invalid sid or a sid that cannot be translated”.
I got some pointer from the below thread
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c8e93984-f4e5-46da-8e8a-c5c79ea1ff62/error-creating-search-service-application-on-sharepoint-foundation-with-local-account?forum=sharepointadmin
However, the above thread doesn't state that the solution worked.
I have tried creating share manually for Analytics_<Guid> folder but it doesn't work since every time farm configuration wizards is run it creates a new Analytics_<Guid> folder.
Since, I have setup SharePoint Foundation 2013 on a production environment I cannot test and trial various solutions.
Can some please guide me on how to successfully provision search for SharePoint Foundation 2013 setup as a single server farm with SQL Server Standard database in a DMZ environment using local accounts (without Active Directory - domain accounts).
    Thanks in advance.
    Himanshu

Microsoft documentation doesn't always specifically call out all products (Project Server isn't there, either). But it does apply. You'll need to stand up at least one Domain Controller, or allow port access back to a DC.
Preferably, set up SharePoint on the internal network and use a reverse proxy (which will terminate client connections at the reverse proxy) present in the DMZ.

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 Configure Search Navigation

I am testing out the search feature of Foundation 2013 and I want to allow my users to refine their searches via Result Sources.  From the instructions that I have read I should be able to do this in the Global Search Results page that I created ->
Site Settings -> Search -> Search Settings.  It appears there should be a section for "Configure Search Navigation".  I do not have this option.  Is this something that is disabled in the Foundation edition of Sharepoint?
For reference here is what I was following for instructions.
http://en.share-gate.com/blog/sharepoint-2013-search-settings-and-search-box-drop-down-menu About halfway down the page it shows this configuration box.  I cannot see that on my Search Settings page at all.
I have successfully created a Result Source that does work, but I seemingly have no way of presenting that to the user.  The Navigation WebPart also relies on the "Configure Search Navigation" settings, which I can't see in my setup.
    Suggestions?

    Hello,
"Configure Search Navigation" is not present in SharePoint Foundation 2013, but it is still available
via SOM (and PowerShell, of course). Try this if this helps (full url of Search Center on my dev environment is http://dev/search):
using (var siteCollection = new SPSite("http://dev"))
    using (var site = siteCollection.OpenWeb("search"))
        site.Navigation.SearchNav.AddAsFirst(
            new SPNavigationNode("Test", "http://dev"));
        site.Update();
