Event Browser - Display Playhead Info iMovie 11?

Hello all, I've spent a great deal of time trying to get the playhead info to display in the event browser. It is important for this to work as I want to make a compilation video from 4 or 5 different feeds and have to sync the video to the recorded sound. I've tried the suggestions in previous topics such as renaming the file to the following format clip-2007-04-01 12;23;03.mov. This suggestion does not work for me and the playhead displays the date created not the information in the file name.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is this even possible? This is driving me crazy.

My only other thought is to consider the country you are in.
In the US that should work. …
5¢ from Europe here:
a) I would NEVER consider to fumble a data-base app (=iMovie) by re-naming any content outside the app. iMovie offers an 'Adjust Clips Date & Time'-feature …
b) the problem occurs with 00:00 (just learned the phrase 'dark zero'  )
from my European perspective - is this a 12 either? or, when is12am, resp. 12pm? and in computer/Unix logic: what (or when?) is the difference btw 12pm and zerozero?
with my (German) local settings, I don't have any am or pm in the clips tag, nor in its real file name.
so, could be a simple translation error - from metric to am/pm, or from am/pm to 'computer-ish'/Unix
summary: use the built-in Adjust feature

  • Re. imovie 9.0.4 Viewing a timeline in event browser?

How can I pinpoint specific cues in my event? That is, my event browser contains a 2hr long movie from which I want to pull out excerpts. So for example, how can I find the scene that begins at precisely 24 minutes 18 seconds. I am able to see a timeline on the project side, but not on the event side.

OK, so you have a single clip that is two hours long with no date metadata. Here is what I would suggest.
    1) Create a new folder within your iMovie Events folder. Give it a name and copy this clip into it.
    2) Change the name of this clip. If you know that date and time this clip was shot, you can use that. If not, today's date will do. Change the name of the clip to clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where: ext is the current file extension
hh is hours in 24 hour time.
If you want to see the actual clock time, e.g. 3:34PM, then use the time it was shot. If you just want to see the time as an offset from zero, use clip-yyyy-mm-dd 00;00;00.ext
    3) Restart iMovie and let it generate thumbnails for this new event.
    4) Now you can skim and see the time after clicking VIEW/PLAYHEAD INFO.

  • Latest version iMovie: cannot see clips in project OR event browser, but they are there in both libraries! So cannot create/edit/publish ANYTHING.

HI All. I have been having a HECK of a time with iMovie 11!!!  Converted a bunch of video to .mov format, imported into iMovie, and created a project. No problem. Finalized, and published to iTunes, no problem. Saves extra copies. No Problem. SO ... I want to create another project, and follow the instructions RELIGIOUSLY. I can import the video files into the event library, and can drag them into a newly created project, but I CANNOT see the clips in the browser pane for events or library! When I click the playhead in either the event library or the project library (where the clips are edited - supposedly), they play (ie, i hear the audio just fine) ... but NO real-time playback.  ALSO - the video no longer plays for the already completed project when I click the playhead - same deal - not in the project browser, not in the event browser. The playhead runs, but as it moves from thumbnail to thumbnail, each one goes black, and no video plays in real time in the other pane. I closed out of iMovie, did a restart, repaired permissions. No change. I get no error messages, and can find no way to 'reassociate' a project with a set of clips (like one can do in software like Illustrator etc).HELP!!!

I've spent 3 hours in Apple Covent Garden trying to have this fixed. Most of those were spent doing something to content in iPhoto. It didn't work. Then I left them my computer to reinstall software (Snow Leopard and iMovie) which they said they could do better than me and my discs. But I got back a computer with a new user profile and no files. When I used Time Machine to restore my files to my old profile the problem was just as before except now I've lost a week worth of photos, despite the Time Machine file having been saved just hours before I gave my Mac to the muppets in the Apple store.
If it's any clue, the other I get is that iMovie searches for four missing movie files when it tries to load. I've tried solving this by creating new files and changing the names to match the ones that are missing (as I read elsewhere in the community works) but it doesn't work.
So I've wasted hours, a day of Apple having my computer and no one replies to my thread here. What's to be done? Do I give up on iMovie and buy Final Cut pro? And how can I get my week's worth of photos back that have disappeared from TimeMachine, even though everything else in the restoration (e.g. mail and Firefox windows) are completely up to date?

  • Clip appearance not displaying in event browser in filmstrip view

Some of the clips in the event browser don't display a visual in the filmstrip view until I skim over it.  Any clue?

Here is a solution to the problem:
In the Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder,
    enter   /Users/Your user name//Movies/iMovie Library.imovielibrary/Name of Event/
(Name of Event is exactly as it appears in the Event Browser)
    Select Go
This takes you to the folder in iMovie Library for that event, and you will see the contents of that folder as several folders and perhaps a file.  One of the folders is Original Media.  Open that folder and you will see individual files of the individual clips contained in that Event.   Delete the file of choice in the usual OS X way. iI will then appear in the Trash folder.  Empty the trash and it is gone.

  • Videos in iPhoto do not appear in iMovie event browser

After successfully importing 60 or so video clips into imovie:
Clips appear and function normally in iPhoto.
Clips do not appear in iMovie event browser unless they are 4 seconds in length or less.
Previous imports from the same camera worked fine.
It started happening after the most recent software updates.

Deleting the prefs did for it to activate this scan:
    Upadating iPhoto video events
Scanning for new videos in your iPhoto library
But it still shows no videos in the iPhoto Video part of the Event Libary.  I am using iPhoto 8.0.6 under MacOS 10.7.5.
When I choose Show Date Ranges in Events list under iMovie preferences, it shows Feb 24, 2008.  What does that mean?  What happened on Feb 24, 2008?  I have over 1000 movies in my iPhoto Library ranging from 2005 to present.
Any other ideas?  Someone suggested removing the "&" symbol from the titles of Events, which I did.  Should i also remove the "&" symbol from the titles of the photos and movies?  What about other symbols like ":".  It seems crazy that Apple would make their software so fragile that ASCII symbols could break it.
    thanks

  • Viewing photo thumbnails in an event is there a way to display file info?

    Hi,
When viewing photo thumbnails in an open event is there a way to set the program display file info like filename and date under each thumbnail? Right now I have to look at the bottom left info pane and highlite each thumbnail to compare file datesand it's a PAIN.

Nope, I can get these options when I'm in Events, in a specific Event.
I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly:
I would like to be able to just open a specific event and have the thumbnail grouping display filename... and not have to scroll through the whole list of Photos.
Do you mean you want a text listing of the pics with no thumbnails?
    Regards

  • Can't see iPhoto movies from the iMovie Event Browser

Has anyone figured this out yet? In iMovie (iLife 09), clicking on "iPhoto Videos" in the event browser gives me the "No matching video" message. All my video clips in iPhoto are .avi files from digital cameras.
The iMovie documentation says that it may not see movie file formats unless they are compatible, and does not list avi as a compatible format.
Can anyone please confirm that iMovie does or does not "see" avi clips from iPhoto? Do I need to convert all the avi clips to .mov files to get iMovie to see them properly?

I spend a few hours on the phone with apple today. I worked my way up to an expert who was a wizard. A few things: 1) he knew about the work-around (turning off the sound in your slideshows), however it does not seem to work for everybody. 2) I had the same problem as reported on this original post, but my problem worsened and iMovie was unable to completely start up. I wont explain all the details here, but there is a known limitation with the conduit between iPhoto and iMovie 09: if you have a great number of movie files in iPhoto, when you try to pull these movies up in iMovie from the Event Library, there is a major bottle neck. iMovie tries to source these files via iPhoto and if you have too many movies in iPhoto (I had 1,595) or the individual movie files are very large, iMovie will stall, unexpectedly quit, or as in my case, completely fail to start. The remedy: export all your movie out of iPhoto to a folder on your desktop and then import them directly into iMovie. (as stated a few other times above). Yes, this is a limitation, however, it's actually faster and you will be less likely to have a issue of a broken video link in the future. Good Luck.

  • IMovie keeps a clip I deleted within Event Browser

I’ve experienced this situation now several times, reproducibly on my MBPro (10.9.4) using iMovie 10.0.4:
In Event Browser I select a clip in one of the Events.  Right-click, select Move to Trash.
The clip disappears from the Event Browser window.
Then I look in the Trash folder and the clip file is not in the Trash.
I look in the iMovie library,   iMovie Library.imovielibrary/ and see that the clip file is still there.
I can close and reopen iMovie and the situation is unchanged.
(How I can look in the iMovie Library is described here:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6474021)
Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
In any case I would suggest that, on deleting a clip using the Event Browser, it would be worthwhile occasionally to check in the Trash folder and verify that the file has been moved to the Trash, so that when the Trash is emptied, the space occupied by that clip is released.    This would be a quick way to show that you don’t have the  problem I’m having.

  • Imovie update and event list display

I just updated imovie and I don't like the way that it looks.  Big problem with reading the event name.  I have a 13" mac book pro and a genius bar consultant confirmed that I will not be able to make the left hand column any bigger.  The little side-to-side arrows show up when I place the cursor on the edge of the column but I can not widen the column.  This is possible on the 15" mac pro.  It is very frustrating.  I have to click on every event to find the one that I want!

Posted this a while ago, no replies. Still wondering if anyone else is having this problem with the event editor display.

  • I DRAG AND DROP A VIDEO CLIP FROM THE EVENT BROWSER THAT IS 7.9 SECONDS INTO MY IMOVIE I'VE STARTED AND IT CHANGES IN THE PROJECT TO 4.9 SECONDS - HOW CAN I KEEP THE LENGTH THE SAME

I drag a video clip from Event to Project into my imovie I've started.  The video clip length changes from 7.9 seconds to 4.9 seconds. How can I stop that length from being changed?

If you are using transitions either side of the clip they will use some of the clip to generate the effect, there isn't anything you can do unless you remove or shorten the transition.
If you aren't using transitions it may be that you are only selecting part of the clip in the event window, try dragging out the yellow frame to include all the video you want in the project.

  • Cannot drag video from event browser to Project Browser

I have been using imovie 09 for some time now, and i have only just overcome the problem of the random sound glitches when you slow clips down to anything but the default speeds. I have been making music videos with clips from movies i've uploaded from dvds.
Previously I have had no trouble at all with this, but just yesterday I tried to make another music video. I am able to create a new project, but when i try to drag video clips from the event browser and drop them in the project browser, the little green plus sign appears but when i drop the clip in there it doesn't do anything. But if I go to the project library, my new project is there and it says that the video clips are actually in there. Also, the video preview display on the right will playback the video in the event browser but it won't play the sound. How can I fix these problems and why would they only have surfaced now?

Thank you so very much!!!!  I know I will get this but hey, I am 70 years old - I sure hope I get it soon   Make sure "skimming is switched on" was wonderful.  Why doesn't Lynda even mention this?  UGH!
In terms of dragging the clip; I am taking it from upper left hand corner of the screen which I believe is called the Event library and taking it down to the middle of the screen.  But in the middle of the screen is the daggone audio wave file and all I am doing is putting that clip on top of the audio wave file and when I play, I get both audios!
I remember working in iMovie 09 and iMovie 06 you would drag your clips down into the time line and do your editing there.  That doesn't seem to be working here.  I appreciate your help more than I can say.  I've got to get a DVD out ASAP and it has to be done in FCP X

  • Event Browser Problem

Every time I import videos into iMovie '09, the videos do appear in the Event Browser. The problem is, after I finish editing my videos, I want to delete the clips in the browser. Now I know that this doesn't actually delete the file itself but sometimes, some clips in the browser can't be deleted no matter how I try to. The only way I did it was to delete using "Show in Finder" then "Move to Trash". When I reopened iMovie the next time, the clips in the browser were finally gone. Any ideas?

I was having this exact same problem.  I tried deleting the preferences, however that didn't work.  But, yes, when I switched the view from 'show viewers on second display', back to 'show on main display'... the spacebar worked again... then I switched back to showing the viewers on my second display, the original circumstance  (which is definitely my preference)... and so far it is working again.. doesn't seem like anything has been 'fixed', but hopefully this doesn't happen often.
So thanks to this thread, as I had no idea what to do, and it was getting very annoying.

  • List View in the event browser stopped working.

Recently I was using Final Cut pro X when it crashed, when I re-opened the application I  found that List View in my event browser no longer displayed any content, filmstrip view appears to work but I had gotten quite fond of list view.
Is there a way to get it running again? I've already tried Restarting, shutting down and booting up again, taking out my external hard disk before opening FCPX then putting it back in again..

We have the same FCP X issue. Filmstrip view works, switch to List view and it shows nothing. We even tried closing in List view, then reopening, it reopens in Filmstrip. We have rebooted as well, with no effect. Anyone find a work around?

  • Is there a way to play videos faster in the event browser?

I shoot a lot of helmet camera video.  Most of it is worthless, but there's some good sequences in there.  I guess I'm looking for a way to skim the videos without using the mouse.  I'd like to just sit and watch the event browser at 2X or 3X speed until I find something worth saving.  Using iMovie 09.

You can skim with your mouse at whatever speed you want. If that is not good enough, you can try the following...
In the Event browser, speed up playback from 1x to 2x to 4x by pressing the Right Arrow Keny one time or two times, respectively
In the Event Browser, Slow down playback from 4x to 2x to 1x by pressing the left arrow key one time or two times, respectively.
The "slow down" only works if you have already "speeded up"
This works in iMovie 11. It most likely works in iMovie 09 and 08 as well.

  • Is there a way to split clips in the Event browser? (audio-synch related)

It seems there is no way to split an event-clip (a clip that appears in the Event browser). You can split Events--but only if they consist of more than one clip. And then you can only split them between two clips. People who have transferred analog video tapes (e.g., Video8) to their computers with the help of iMovie end up with Events that are the same length as their video tapes. So this usually means 2-hour events (consisting of one clip). But iMovie has a synchronization problem for such DV files. This problem would be mitigated by having shorter events. Hence the desire to split events. I thought a read somewhere a workaround for splitting event-clips, but if was a few months ago. I wouldn't think there is any reason we cannot split event clips, other than a preference for non-destructive editing. But a bit of destruction may be worthwhile if it improves synchronization. Does anyone know a way to split clips in the Event browser?

    you haven't updated to FCPX10.1 haven't you
