Event manager: relink missing file problem

hello, lately I have been in this inmbattuto problems concerning the management of media and events, having worked on a project I was presented to the subsequent reopening of FCPX the classic yellow triangle on the event created by me:
clicking with the right mouse button from the popup menu I click on 'relink media files':
obviously missed that file is not in use it in the storyline it anywhere else in the project,
FCPX is indicated by the file that is no longer able to identify, but there is one problem, this file does not exist anymore, and even if I click 'relink botton' to overwrite it with another updated file or similar I open this warning window:
now I wonder ... how can I do to remove this 'error' event if I do not have the most files and at the same time does not allow me to replace it with another file similar?
Is there a way to link the event to delete this? or edit the file. fcpevent? .... thanks for the reply

It appears that your event may have become corrupt.
You may want to take a look at Pro Maintenance Tools:
Pro Maintenance Tools - Maintain, troubleshoot and optimize Final ...
This may be able to repair your damaged event. I believe there is a functional trial version of the software.
One other, more involved option, which I cannot test and is not without perils, is to try and export your event to XML and try to see how and where the nonexistant clip is mentioned there. Messing with XML may work, but is very likely to cause trouble. In the best case scenario you might be able to "fix" the XML, and reimport the fixed event, but this is not for the faint of heart.

  • Relink Illustrator files problem

    I've never seen anything like this:
    I have a project created in CS4 (unknown exact version) outside my company and I need to continue work on the project.  Project and assets shipped over on a firewire drive.  Almost 400GB of stuff, so just to verify before I start copying to my system I open the project (in CS4) directly from drive and quickly check things out.  Everything seems okay.  Copy drive contents.  Next day I open the project in CS5 on my system.  CS5 informs me my footage is missing so I relink one file and AE finds everything else.  However, almost all (but not every) Illustrator file is relinked as the 'wrong size'.  That's the best I can describe it.  Masking done on the ai files is completely wrong, animations don't work because of this, etc.  I though, okay I'll try opening in CS4.  Same deal.  So I spun up the firewire drive and opened the project from there to make sure I wasn't crazy.  Everything is fine.  ?  So I'm crazy.
    My next thought was that the import settings I last used to import ai files as a composition must be hosing things up.  But I get no choice when relinking, so I imported one layered file from another project as a comp using retain layer sizes then relinking (didn't fix) and then imported as comp using document size (didn't fix). I tried relinking to the files directly off the firewire drive and that didn't work in either CS4 or CS5.
    What's the MOST puzzling to me is that if I open the original CS4 project off of the firewire drive and relink any one .ai file to THE SAME files on my system's drive (in the same directory structure, etc.) the problem appears.  If I open the original project off the firewire drive in CS5, the project is fine too but I same probelm with relinking to .ai files on my system.  So for now I'm working off of the firewire drive.  Not ideal for sure but I'm getting by.
    I would entertain any thoughts anyone wants to offer up.  Maybe I've missed something obvious, but I've done similar projects plenty of times and not seen any issues like this.
    More details:
    Mac 10.6.4   2 x 2.8GHz Quad
    6GB RAM
    CS4 9.0.2.42
    CS5 10.0.1.19
    Client's Firewire drive: LaCie 1TB external
    System storage location: Fibre channel shared RAID
    Project has ProRes 422 HQ 1920 x 1080 29.97 QT footage and Illustrator files as assets
    Don't know how or what version of .ai files were created in
    Illustrator files have been masked/animated so when I relink files on my system as above, the masks are all wrong vs. the ai file dimensions
    Every Illustrator file I've opened is a single layer document (there are hundreds, not tried EVERY one, but every one in project is single layer, not comp
    Importing as Composition with retain layer sizes OR document size makes no difference in this issue

    Thanks so much for the swift reply.  I was afraid of something like that- it is obvious the bounding box is being reset, I didn't know the proper terms.  I'm a Illustrator idiot for the most part.
    I have not tried to do a collect (that's not how it was sent to me- it was just a straight copy of their project/folders) but will try that and report back.
    At least I'm able to work off the drive okay.

    Here is the article that shows you how to remove iTunes and all of it's components when receiving the error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable".  Once all components are uninstalled as outlined in the second article, you should be able to install iTunes again.

  • EXS / Logic missing files problem

    One of my projects has missing exs files. I mean, when I open the project, it can't find some sample files. I opened EXS24 for some tracks and I see "MISSING: picolo" or "MISSING: Harp" - these kind of messages. I also remember having an orchestral project option when creating a new project and a bunch of orchestral instrument tracks would get created. I don't see this anymore.
    I installed Logic 3 times already. What is the problem?

    i tried to install master collection cs6, but it says one file is missing, download adobe support adviser. i did download. it said cpsid_82829s5 error.

  • FIXED my missing files problem....for those who still need help.

    My son got an iPod so we made a separate user on my computer. He decided it would be easier to share my entire music file instead of individually pulling all of his music files out of my music folder.
    He MOVED all of my music files to the 'shared music' folder instead of COPYING the files. SO my iTunes simply couldn't find the files. I copied all the files back into 'My Music' and now my library is back.
    I thought I'd post this separately as it seems this is a common problem. A lot of us seem to have more than one iPod user per computer.
    I'll just wait for the sound & artwork fixes, at least I don't feel like I need to uninstall iTunes 7 at the moment.
    Hope this is helpful to someone!

    when i load the swf from outside, i want it to then be able
    to return to the main navigation file which i guess would be level
    0. So does that mean that the code for buttons navigating back to
    the main flash file would be more like:
    on(release){
    mcl.addListener(mclListener);
    mclListener.onLoadInit = function(mc:MovieClip){
    mc._visible=true;
    mc.gotoAndPlay(76);
    _level1._visible=false;
    mcl.loadClip("darnen.swf", 0);
    As i load in all these different files from outside I've been
    loading them all into level 1 because that seems to be the only way
    to get them to display at all with the code I'm using. I assume it
    might be better to load them all into individual levels? I'm not
    sure. I'm still just kinda learning AScript as i go along..

  • Missing files using the same library on two different macs and other minor problems

    Hi everybody,
    I'm working on a long documentary and I'm new to FCPX (coming from Avid NC and Edius)...I have and external HD where I stored all the media I'm working with (about 1/2T - 1000 clips)...The library (about 100gb) is stored on the internal drive of my iMac and into the iCloud.
    Yesterday, I received my new MacBook and today I tried to work on it. I followed this steps: I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with, I put it on the same folder (movies) it was stored on my iMac and I connected my external HD with all the media...Results? All the clips where gone and the red missing file warning was all over the place.
    FIRST QUESTION: How can I work on both computer overcoming this missing files problem? I know I should have put the library on the same external drive but It was a move aiming to
    SUB QUESTION 1:
    I went back to my iMac and everything worked fine except for a warning about one of my events (the exclamation point) as you can see from this pic:
    I tried to relink the file...but no files to be linked popped up in the relink file window....HOW CAN I KNOW what's wrong in that event in order to fix it?
    SUB QUESTION 2:
    I checked the Library info and - as you can see in the pic below - there are 43mb of media in my internal HD...is this maybe the problem preventing me from working on different macs? I tried to consolidate everything to the external HD but still the 43mb thing persist in being on the internal HD. How can I find where exactly it is located? How can I move it to the external HD given that the consolidate option isn't working?
    Thank you in advance for your help
    Nico

    1) Don't know why this is happening. It may have something to do with
    I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with
    I'm not clear what procedure you're using here. Using a cloud for storage might change some file tags. Generally users I think keep the library on the same drive as the media, keeping the library backups on the system. There is no real benefit in keeping the media in a separate location. Often users will keep the library in the same folder as the media. It makes backing up using tools like Carbon Copy Cloner very efficient.
    1a) This can be difficult to find as there sometimes is no obvious indicator. It might be a missing element in a compound clip, a missing or altered layer in a graphics file, a missing font, a missing effect. These will show up inside the item involved, but may not be apparent in the browser. A missing transition for instance will not be seen until you skim over the project or try to export it.
    2) The 43 MB is a small amount of optimized media. This never prevents relinking. The library is always looking for original media, or proxy media if you're in proxy playback. It never looks for optimized media. If it has it, it uses it, if it doesn't, it uses the original media. If you are using original/optimized playback, you must have the original files. The optimized files are not enough.

  • Files disappeared from library, "missing" files not really missing

    I had a folder with 3 files in different formats for each image.  These were imported several days ago, grouped into stacks, captioned, tagged, etc. and synced to the files.  They continued to exist in the library some time afterward, but today when I opened lightroom all of the jpg versions of all of the images and all 3 formats of one image in particular had vanished from the library.  It did not claim that it could not find them on disk (and in fact the files *do* still exist on disk right where they should), they just didn't show up.  I was able to re-import all of the jpg images without trouble, but for the other two formats of the one missing image, importing one of them fails because it "already exists in the library," and the other one is willing to import but then doesn't show up in the folder or the recently imported files list.  When I try to synchronize the folder, it suggests that I import that file, but it never actually does.  Since importing the jpgs, it also suggests that I remove 53 "missing" files, the number of jpgs imported.  When I view the missing files in the library, it shows only 2 of the jpgs, one of which belongs with the files that will not import and neither of which is actually missing--they can both be synchronized just fine by clicking the little synchronize icon on the actual photo.
    Does anyone know what's going on here and how I might be able to get the files that won't import back into the library?  And how to be sure that files won't just go away on their own again?
    Edit: to be clear, missing versions of files were definitely not stacked with the other ones and the "don't import duplicates" box was not checked when re-importing the ones that won't re-import

    I managed to get the photos that wouldn't import back in by deleting them directly out of the database and then reimporting them into lightroom. I'm a little concerned that they disappeared in the library view in the first place, though.  Does this sort of thing happen often, and under what circumstances?  I'm still in the free trial period and was very close to buying the program, but now I'm not so sure.  If I'm using an application to manage my photos, I want to know that it's actually managing all of the photos I put into it and not randomly forgetting about them.
    I'm still having the not-really-missing files problem, though.  I think it may actually be because they got associated as "sidecar" files somehow and are now in there twice, once as the sidecar file and another time as a separate jpg image.  I'm not really sure why only one of them shows up in the missing images view, I think it might be because I edited that one so it's in a slightly different state from the others?  If there are any tips on how to resolve that state, I'm all ears, I'd like it to stop telling me I have 53 missing files when I don't.

  • I use a windows operator and whenever I want to start up one of the CS6 applications, I get a missing file error

    I used to have Photoshop CS6 and when I clicked to open it told me that I have a missing file by the name of ExtendedScript.dll and when I wanted to set up Premiere Pro CS6, the set up wouldn't even start because it says I have a missing file but doesn't tell me what it is. I don't know if it's also the ExtendedScript.dll as well?
    How can I fix this missing file problem?
    Thank you!

    reinstall ps cs6.  if the problem is solved and then recurs, you probably have a utility/cleaner that's causing the problem.

  • "Missing files" NOT actually missing

    I had some drive problems that during play and syncing made iTunes mark many of my files "missing". With the working drive, these tracks are not actually missing - double-clicking on each one will refresh its view. The problem is that iTunes seems satisfied with its 'missing' status for each, such that 'next track' and ipod-syncing assume those files don't need to be checked again.
    In other words, despite no real problems with file access, I can only get iTunes to refresh its view of those missing tracks by double-clicking each one, which is completely unworkable, given the thousands it thinks are missing.
    I've seen other variants of missing file problems but not this. Can I get iTunes to refresh its view of those files? The file locations *have not changed*
    I'm pretty sure this is new behavior, previous builds seemed happy to check a file anew if asked in any way (e.g. 'next').
      Windows 2000

    This is exactly my problem as well. The MP3's are still in the same location with the same names, and I can't deduce why it's only about 40% of the total files unlinked.
    This is the second time I've had to repair my Library, and nothing in iTunes makes that easy. If I delete everything it resets my ratings and counts, which is precisely what I want to avoid. If I re-import the music, I end up with duplicate files with extra numbers.
    I did the whole ITL/XML refresh in the support section, then it gives me this "missing" headache. iTunes already knows which Artist folder to start looking in for each song... strcmp() anyone???
    In my security efforts I have disabled my system from launching any script files with double-click, so while I would be happy to try Otto's JavaScript method... It shouldn't be too much to ask the iTunes team for a "Resolve Missing Files" button.
    Even kinder would be the ability to make the iPod the master list, and have iTunes be on the receiving end of the sync. But I can see the i's rolling when that comes to purchased content.
    It's wonderful when things work.

  • Photoshop elements 11and finding missing files

    I had a problem with an account on my photoshop so had to open a new account on my imac. I had spent quite a bit of time editing my Alaska pictures and somehow now they wont let me move them to my new downloaded photoshop.  it says they are missing files and if I try to find them it will search forever and not find them.. is there another way to get them to my other photoshop or even if i could put them on my external hard drive.  that is where the problem started in my old account is when I bought that.  I kept getting the beach ball spinning and couldnt get it to stop so apple just suggested I open a new account.

    I am sorry:  There was a word misprint that could be confusing.  Please ignore my previous post.  Here is the corrected version:
    The Missing Files thing is very difficult.  I found a pretty easy way around it.
    My newest photos are in a folder (windows folder) called 2013.  I have other folders, such as 1990s, 2000-5, etc. The trick is to make a new empty folder called Temp, in the same location as your other folders. For me, this temp folder, and those other folders, are located within a folder called Adobe, which is within another folder called "my pictures".  I import all new photos into this temp folder. Then I add them to the catalog by selecting File, and choosing search and finding the temp folder. Then I choose "get media" which seals the deal.
    When you choose Get Media, the organizer only displays the new photos you've just added to the catolog. Once you see these new photos,  immediately add them to any albums within photoshop.  The next thing I do is move the photos to a folder where you really want them, say 2013 for example. This gets them out of the temp folder. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS WITHIN PHOTOSHOP ITSELF--IF YOU MOVE PICTURES THE TRADITIONAL WAY FROM FOLDER TO FOLDER, THIS CONFUSES THE ORGANIZER. On a windows version of photoshop, I highlight these photos within photoshop and choose file/move on the organizer menu and select the folder.  This moves all of the photos from the temp folder into the folder that you really want them to go into. You're done.
    I've done this hundreds of times with no missing files problem until yesterday! A glitch happened, whereby I chose to delete the photos and selected the option to also delete them from the temp folder.  When I tried to back up elements, it warned me that there were missing files. Since they were originally in the temp folder, I knew where to look. The beauty of the temp folder is that if you ever get the "missing files" notification, it will be easy to find them. If you hadn't used a temp folder and instead had thrown the pics in a folder with a thousand other shots, it would be really tough to find them.
    Since I knew the temp folder was involved in all this, here's how I found the "missing files": I used the "my folders" area of photoshop, which is directly under the albums and has a yellow icon. I clicked onto the arrow to the left of this folder, found the temp folder, and all of the missing pictures were suddenly seen in my organizer. However, I knew that the temp folder on my computer was empty. This was confusing to me. Why would the organizer think these photos were in the temp folder, when they were actually in my recycle bin?  I clicked on all of the photos that were supposedly in the temp folder, even though I knew they weren't there. Clicking highlighted the photos in blue. Then I right clicked and chose "delete from catalog". Problem solved. No more missing files.
    All of this stuff took me 8 hours to figure out on my own.  I hope I save you some time.

  • Missing Pictures problem

    Missing Pictures problem, I work with Adobe Illustrator CS2 at work & CS3 at home but i have the problem with both. I have a problem with missing pictures from time to time after saving the file & moving the image from original location. I know you have to link the images/files and leave then where the are or you can embeded them. So in my option box i un select the link the files box & i still get the missing files problem, when re-opening the AI file.
    Does anybody know why? Or what I can do to avoid this?
    Thanks

  • Files Already Exist when Reconnecting Presumably Missing Files

    I am struggling to clean-up several hundred files in my PSE organizer database.
    Whenever I run the reconnect all command (or any other command that requires reconnecting first), PSE locates a large group of presumably missing files. PSE's "Reconnect Missing Files" dialogue shows me the former location of the files. I browse to that location and find the files still there. I then select the file and press reconnect. Unfortunately, I then get an error that says "The file already exists in the catalog." This clears the missing file problem for the moment. However, when I run another missing file check, it will again find these same files. I have attempted to reconnect them several times but PSE continues to tell me that they need to be reconnected but still knows where the files are.
    I have already run a database repair (no errors were found).
    I also ran a database optimization without issue.
    Some system information:
    Win7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
    Dell XPS i7 Computer
    6gb RAM. >350gb of free hard disk space
    PSE 12....but also had the same problem on PSE 11. I upgraded hoping that the problem would be solved. It wasn't.
    Thanks for any assistance in clearing this problem for me.
    -Bruce

    I solved my own problem...although I do not know what caused it nor why Adobe's program didn't fix it for me.
    The "missing" entries that were being highlighted were all duplicate entries. Adobe won't allow for a duplicate entry to the same physical file. I deleted all the offending entries and this cleared my problem. I hope this solution helps others.
