Event titles

I have been reading Apple training series ilife '08. In the iphoto section it says if i click on photos in the source list then View > show event titles it will show event titles with a disclosure triangle next to it. When I try Event title is always grayed out. It only seems to work when i'm in last imported in the source list any idea what I might be doing wrong.

Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and then try again. You'll have to reset the various options in the preferences and the View menu.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Event Titles no longer available as a option when in the Photo's source.

Prior to the latest update, when I selected the Photo's view, I was able to see Event Titles. Now when I am in Photo's (As opposed to Events, Faces, Places) and go to View, the Event Titles selection is grayed out. I don't need thousands of photo's with no event delineation since this is the only place I can rearrange photos. Any idea what happened or what I am doing wrong.

That is correct - events are time based so if you change the sort then event titles make no sense and can not be used - leave the photos in date order and use albums for custom sorts
It used to work great when I could sort in "Photo's" with the Event Titles as dividers.
I do not think that you could ever sort photos manually with event titles displayed
OK, so if I can't do it the way it used to work, how do I sort photo's in an event?
You can not - use albums and/or smart albums with faces/places/times/keywords/ratings etc

  • Event titles gone after external backup. How do I get them back?

My husband backed up my photos today from my iphoto 09 onto an external hard drive.  Now I only have 11 even ttitles from the past 5 years or so.  And 10 of those events only have 1 or 2 pictures.  The first event is titled Nov. 27, 2003 - July 28, 2012.  All of my pictures seem to be there and in I think they are even in order but none of the event titles are there...making it very difficult to sort through them and find pictures.  I have over 17,000 pics so I really need those titles.  Any suggestions on how to get them back?  My husband swears he didn't do anything during the backup process to cause this problem.

I am sorry. I am new at this.
    he opened my iphoto
in the Library he selected "photos"
He then went to the Edit menu and selected "select all"
He then went to Edit and selected "copy"
Then he had opened a "new folder" on my desktop
He openened that new folder and right clicked in the middle of it to get a menu and selected "paste items"
then he copied from that folder to the external hard drive.
He tells me he had trouble copying all the pictures directly from iphoto to the external hard drive. Something about how it was taking far longer than it should have to show progress and it looked like it was not working properly. So he stopped that and then did what I described above.
I hope I explained that right. I am so thankful for your help.

  • Cannot Change Event Title

    Greetings,
This seems a bit odd... but for an unknown reason I'm no longer able to edit the Event Title text. When I click on the field to change the event title, I see the field change to a text strip but without a cursor. I can however use the text field via 'search'.
I've tried restarting the application, mac... I've made plenty of events so far, this seems to be out of the blue.
    Any ideas?

There is a LONG thread on this subject --http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1075656&tstart=15 -- I would think that some of the ideas there would be of assistance

  • IPhoto event titles collapsed to one title

I was preparing to email some photos, opened a blank email, went back to iphoto & saw that suddenly my many event titles that had been there a minute ago & that organize nearly 3,000 photos with very specific, very important titles have all disappeared leaving one event title.
I have hundreds of pages of photographed journals & letters that will take days to reorganize. I don't have Time Machine.  iphoto has never been buggy before. Was it a recent update? Is there anyway of getting this information back? I'm devastated (not to mention really, really ******).
    Please help!
    I have iphoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)

Was anything else missing like albums, books, slideshows, etc. Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Can edit event title, day, and hour, but *not* minutes - Help!

I can edit everything about my calendar event title, day, and hour, but not the minutes. This is very annoying and I'm not able to have accurate calendar entries.
It's like there' s a glitch in the program. Can it be reloaded/rebooted?
    Using iCal 3.0.8

I have the exact same problem, and it is really driving me crazy...
    Any luck with it??

  • Smart Folder sorted by event titles

I have two smart albums which have very similar criterias. The only difference is that one includes pictures from overseas whereas the other doesn't.
However, viewing the two smart albums is a different experience altogether. The Overseas Smart Album doesn't sort the pictures in any way, whereas the other one sorts it by event title.
Both smart albums have the same preference for 'viewing': 'Sort by' is 'date, and the 'Event titles' can't be selected.
I would really like to view the smart album sorted by event titles. How do I do it? Why can I do it for one but not for the other?
Help appreciated! I have already tried lots of different options!
    Tks

  • How can I stop ical from deleting time information from event titles?

I sometimes like to put times (e.g., 10pm) in the titles of my events.  I do this because I want to see the time in the event title for certain events.  Apple's ical thinks it knows what I want (it doesn't!) and deletes this information from the title, probably to schedule the event at that time, which is ridiculous because I sent the time of the event when I create it.  This is especially annoying because I want the time in the event title for a reason.  I can't figure out how to turn this function off.  Apple, if you're reading this, please add an easy on/off switch to this "feature," (or better yet, remove it).  In the meantime, does anyone know how to get around this?

Enter them in a format that Calendar doesn’t recognize as a time.
Or go back and edit the title after it recognizes the date/time info.

  • IPhoto 11 event titles gone?, iPhoto 11 event titles gone?

I upgraded online to iPhoto11.  While working I lost all Event Titles, a message said "reinstall iPhoto11", how would I do that?
It happened when I chose select all in one event.  It selected over 14,000 photos, I unselected them before doing anything and that is when I lost all event titles.  ANY SUGGESTIONS in laymans language would be appreciated.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • I can't use numbers in an Event title in iCal

I have to use numbers in event titles and when I enter them, they disappear.  I have to go back and edit the event and put them back in.
Example:  Show Name - Episode Number - Meeting
CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting     (As typed)
CSI:NY Production Meeting           (As interpreted by iCal)
It's very annoying to have to go back to the event every time to add the numbers back in.  I am using a Macbook Pro and an iMac running Lion on both and both have the same issue.
    Any ideas?

The Lion version of iCal accepts freeform event title entries containing dates and times and parses the event title, date(s), start time, and end time. For example if you enter "Breakfast with Sarah on Feb 22 from 8 AM to 9 AM", iCal turns it into an event titled "Breakfast with Sarah", places it on Feb 22 of the current year, and and assigns start time of 8 AM and an end time of 9 AM to the event. That's what is happening to you. When I tried to enter your "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" ecxample, iCal converted the "801" to an 8:01 AM start time for a "CSI:NY Production Meeting" event.
Take advantage of this feature to solve your problem, as follows:
Type"CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting at 9 AM to 12 Noon" to create a "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" event with a 9 AM start time and a Noon end time.
Or type "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting on Sep 22 at 9 AM to Noon" to create a "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" event on Sep 22 of the current year, with a 9 AM start time and a Noon end time.
Or double-click where you want to place the event, but don't type anything yet. Instead, double-click on the new event to open it's Info window. Type "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" there and iCal won't turn the "801" into a start time.
I agree it was really annoying at first, but once I learned to use it I loved it.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from repeatedly closing Event title boxes when I am in the middle of entering a title?

How do I stop iPhoto from repeatedly closing Event title boxes when I am in the middle of entering a title?
This problem started several months ago. I have tried typing more slowly and typing faster; neither help.
It now takes me about four attempts to complete a title of about twelve characters, achieving about three characters on each attempt.
    I am running iPhoto 9.4.3 on OS X 10.8.3 on a 2.93 GHz Intel Quad-Core i7 iMac with 12 GB of DDR3 memory.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Can't see event titles or project titles when looking at photos in the photo view in Aperture 3?

    Howdy,
I recently switched from iPhoto 11 to Aperture 3. The only drawback so far is I am unable to view Project Titles when I am viewing all of my photos in the photo view. In iPhoto, I often would look at all of my photos in photo view while displaying the event titles. Is this possible in Aperture? Also, is there a simple way to view the file names underneath the photos in photo view instead of seeing the version name?

Hi Greg.  Welcome to Aperture and the Apple Aperture users forum.

You should set up all seven of the Metadata Overlays to meet your needs.  (iPhoto is designed as a turn-key operation for those who prefer their meals prepared; Aperture is a kitchen for those who like to cook.)

Have you looked at Projects View (click "Projects" at the top of the Library tab of the Inspector)?  You can group your Projects by Folder or by Year, and you can sort them in a number of ways.  There is no information pane which shows up on Aperture as you scroll (as there is in iPhoto).
Projects View, imho, add tremendous functionality to Aperture.  You can add descriptions to your Projects (and these are included in searches) via the Projects Information window ("{Shift}+i" with a Project selected.)

  • Turning off Grey date and event title window..

When I scroll in IPHOTO 8 a nice grey little window appears saying what date the photos are from, and the event titles...problem is, when I stop it's still there. How do I turn it off? I tried clicking on it and in the window, but it's still there...

    James
iPhoto menu -> Preferences -> uncheck ‘Show Scrolling Information’
There are two places with this option - in the General and the Events panes.

  • Can't see 'Event' titles

This may be a silly question, but is there any way to change the text colour of 'events' titles? They are the same colour as the background and can't be seen. I can't believe that it's the way apple intended so I must be missing something. I can't seem to change the background colour or the text colour.
Any help would be appreciated as I don't need to know the dates of the photos (that show in white when the mouse is over) but the event title would be a plus.
    Thanks.

I suspect you might be right (although I would have expected that the lack of the option would have meant publication of more of the data rather than less). I'm afraid I don't have systems with either of those versions to be able to delve any deeper.
What you don't mention, and might be worth a shot is:
stop publishing the source, delete the subscription and start over.

  • "event titles" grayed out

    Hi all,
Yesterday I was teaching an iPhoto class to teachers and had a gal who could not check "event titles" in order to organize that way as that feature was grayed out.
I didn't get to spend a lot of time in front of her laptop, but she has all of the current iPhoto updates.
I've searched around and didn't find any answers - any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Cypress welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
in the iPhoto window the source pane is on the left - it contains many different way to view your hotos - by event or by photos - or by album or smart album or folder of albms - or by project (book, card, etc) - or by slide show
Are you saying that none of those view are in the source pane - only the last event and that "event" view is grayed out?
