Event... won't... die!! Why?

OK, iCal had been working for me ever since the first day it came out. Until Leopard.
I have 2 recurring events that seemed to be causing problems. When the alarm for these 2 would pop up, it would take minutes for me to be able to click on a reminder timeframe (in the meantime I got the SBOD--Spinning Beachball Of Death).
After 2 or 3 days of this (OK, so I admit I use "Remind me later" quite a bit!), I decide that I'll just delete these 2 events and recreate them.
I go into iCal and delete the first one. After about half an hour of 80% CPU utilization (my MacBook Pro got pretty warm) and the SBOD in iCal, it finally deleted it.
When I try to delete the second event, I also get 80% CPU and SBOD for half an hour(!), but it then never deletes the event. iCal doesn't crash or anything, it just doesn't delete the event. I tried deleting it on my iPhone (which works) and then syncing, but then the syncing hangs when syncing calendars.
So then I thought maybe this one event is screwed up. So (it's an annual repeating event) then I try to go to 2009 and delete the event there, but same problem.
THIS EVENT WILL NOT DIE.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

L M,
I would recommend that you use iCal>File>Back Up iCal, and then delete all of your calendars. Quit iCal, Start iCal, and then use iCal>File>Restore iCal...
When you attempt to delete all of your calendars, iCal will not let you delete the last one, so you will have to create a temporary "fake" calendar to take the place of your last calendar deletion.
Let us know what happens, and make sure that you use that Back Up feature a couple of times and save in a different location each time.

  • Events won't run at set interval

I have about a half dozen events that are supposed to run at set intervals. When I first register them, the ones for the node run (check disk space) and I get the notification. They only run the one time. To get them to run again, I have to deregister then register again. They run once then not again. The one for Data Guard status will not run. Shutdown OMS and disabled then enabled eventhandler, restarted OMS. Bounced agents. All to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas why these events won't run at their specified interval?

    Need a bit info here.
What exactly are you talking about, database control, grid control, OEM 9i?
I'm guessing its the last one? If so, if you have a check disk space alert and it fires saying you have only x amount of space left. When you clear the space on the disk, the event will clear itself. It will only 'alert' once, until you have fixed the problem. Does this make sense to you?

  • Event won't let drop Node, Manual Node won't let drop Event

Hi, I am using OEM 9.2. I tried to register an event but the target was manually defined, so it went to pending state. I tried to drop the node to rediscover it, but the pending event won't let me. So the event won't let me drop the node and the node won't let me drop the event, so I'm stuck. Can anybody help please?

Found it, have to bounce the OEM server with the Intelligent Agent stopped!

You won't be able to buy Pages from the Mac App Store on 10.6.8. You need to reload it from the original source.

I transferred my apps from one Mac to a new one and now my Elements won't open Why?

You can never, never transfer an installed copy of PSE. PSE is not a tidy package like most mac apps; the installer strews stuff all over your hard drive and neither you nor the migration assistant can ever hope to find all the necessary bits and pieces.
Now you have kind of a mess to clean up. First download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
It won't seem to do anything, but it's necessary in order for you to be able to successfully manually remove what did get transferred so that you can reinstall PSE.
Then go around and remove all the bits you can find, not only from applications but from your user>library>preferences and especially from hard drive>library>application support. Note that those are two different libraries.
Then you can reinstall PSE from scratch.

    Greetings jsubacus,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your calendar events are appearing in GMT on your calendar in Yosemite. This was a fix in iOS 8.2 for iCloud calendars. I would suggest that you make sure all of your devices are updated to the current software release to help resolve the issue.

After my phone and mac sync my calendar has double entries of an event or birthday. Why is this?

Are you syncing both with the cable to itunes and with icloud? That tends to duplicate your information. Choose one source with which to sync

  • Icloud events won't show on outlook main page

I have done the sync process, with Outlook (first)..then added iCloud panel, signed in, it merged my Contacts and Calendars...and now they calendar won'tshow on the main page of my Outlook 2007.
Tried on phone with APPLE nobody seems to know why, is there a glitch?
    Windows 7, 64-Bit

    iOS 7iPhone 4S
Did the same on another computer/another phone and it worked fine.
if you could reply with responses to better help with me would be great.
    this is quite the confusion
see photo, normally on this main PST page you'd see the list of up to 7 days of events/appointments listed on left - but nothing appears.

    System Preferences > Accounts
Click the lock and enter your password.
Select Login Options (just above the lock)
Change the selection near the top from 'list of users' to 'name and password'
That will give you two blank fields on the login window instead of showing your name.

  • Problem with processes that just won't die...

    Hi,
    first off, hullo everybody
I'm new to Arch Linux, but I do already like it very much. I have just installed it on my workstation and it works fine, except for the following problem.
My home directory here is mounted via NFS from a central server. My username is malte (we're using YP/NIS for central authentication) and my home dir is /WW/home/malte/
The network file system that is mounted at boot time is /WW
    malte@bombadil $ grep nfs /etc/fstab
    quarterback:/WW    /WW           nfs       defaults               0      0
Everything is setup at boot time automatically and all works fine so far. However, when I reboot my machine using sudo reboot, or even when cleanly logging out and using the Shutdown/Reboot button in GDM, what happens is that Arch tries to unmount the net file systems (that is, /WW in this case), but fails and outputs
    /WW: device is busy
(or something to that effect); so it gives up, and goes on shutting down all the other services, like the network etc. At the very end, when "Unmounting all filesystems", it then again tries to unmount the net file system, which of course won't work since the network is already shut down. It tries for about a minute or so before timing out, giving up and just rebooting
This of course is quite annoying, as I have to wait more than a minute each time I want to reboot (or I would have to press the reset button on the computer, which I really don't want to).
So why doesn't Arch succeed in unmounting the net file system when it should? Using lsof, I have traced down the problem further:
When I do not login as user in GDM after booting up the system, but immediately reboot again after GDM has just been started, there is no problem: /WW is unmounted properly, and my system reboots flawlessly.
The problem is when I log in to my WM as user. Even if I log out cleanly to GDM again, there are two processes belonging to user malte that go on living and that access to /WW/home/malte, and I suppose that is why unmounting fails at reboot time, saying the device is busy.
I have found out that (and which these processes are) by closely observing the output of watch 'lsof | grep WW' run as root on vc/1, just after I log out from my WM as user:
root@bombadil $ lsof | grep WW # executed closely after logging out as user malte
    menu-cach 3410  malte  cwd       DIR               0,16     1536    8785908 /WW/home/malte (quarterback:/WW)
    gam_serve 5391  malte  cwd       DIR               0,16     1536    8785908 /WW/home/malte (quarterback:/WW)
More information on those two processes:
    root@bombadil $ ps aux | grep -e gam_serv -e menu-cach
    malte     3410  0.0  0.1  41540  2680 ?        S    14:46   0:00 /usr/bin/menu-cached
    malte     5391  0.0  0.0  17444  1476 ?        S    15:38   0:00 /usr/lib/gamin/gam_server
    root      5473  0.0  0.0   9324   740 tty1     R+   15:38   0:00 grep -e gam-serv -e menu-cach
So! In short, even after logging out, menu-cached and gam_server keep on living, and access to /WW/home/malte, and that is why when I try to reboot, Arch does not succeed in unmounting /WW, and that is why it tries to unmount it again at a later time, after networking has already been shut down, and that is why it waits for a time-out for about a minute at the end of the reboot procedure.
In fact, gam_server only keeps on living for about 20 seconds after I logged out, then it is terminated. As for menu-cached, it goes on and on living, at least for 5 minutes, which is when I got tired of watching the output of watch 'lsof | grep WW' ;-)
Any ideas how this could be remedied? Ideally, I'd like to be able to reboot using sudo reboot rather than by logging out and using GDM to reboot, but I guess that then there will be even more processes alive and accessing the NFS file system when already Arch tries to unmount it.
Oh yes, maybe this is of some interest also:
    malte@bombadil $ grep DAEMONS /etc/rc.conf
    # DAEMONS
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network portmap nfslock @netfs ypbind sshd crond)
    Please help
    Cheers,
    Malte

I have the same problem.  menu-caches doesn't die after user logs out of the session (don't have the gamin issue though).  I too am running LXDE.  When a different user logs in via gdm you'll still see the menu-cached processes for other users and I end up having to kill them as root.  I do believe this is a bug with either menu-caches and/or LXDE (or perhaps, more specifically, its session manager).  I've looked high and low through the system to figure out where menu-cached is invoked from and for any sort of associated configuration file to no avail.  I'm left with the conclusion that the invocation of menu-cached is hard-coded into start-lxde.
As a ugly-hack workaround you might try making a shell script like the following in /etc/gdm/PostSession/ directory:
    #!/bin/sh
    killall menu-cached
This of course is only applicable for those running gdm as their display manager.  Also don't forget to make it executable.
I would imagine that menu-cached not closing on user logout is very much a bug.  Or perhaps, more precisely, something that hadn't gotten put in yet.  Afterall, LXDE is still a relatively new desktop.  A good one at that so far, if you don't mind some of the missing polish that its dev haven't had a chance to add yet.
If someone else knows a more elegant solution than that please let me, and the other LXDE users, know.

  • I have a question about the calendar on the ipad2. I have multiple calendars in different colors. Some of the events are filled in with color. Others are just listed with a colored dot in front of the event. Any ideas why events ar showing up differently?

I have an ipad2 and my question is about the calendar. I set up multiple calendars with different colors. Some of the events show up in filled color. Others only show with a colored dot in front of the event. I can't figure out why some show up one way and others show up differently? Any thoughts?

On mine the ones that show on a coloured background are all-day events, the ones with dots and just timed events.

  • My new Ipod Touch won't charge, why?

The charger worked with my friend's Iphone, so why not my Ipod?

Are you using an Apple charger?  If not, the iPod may say it isn't charging with some brands, when actually it is just charging very slowly.
If your iPod won't charge with either A/C power or via USB and with different cables, your iPod may be ready for that great iPod graveyard in the sky.

EDIT: BAH! I posted too slow... but there is still some information about saving and clearing in there
Its for making a playlist while your 'on the go'. So you click and hold the middle button the selected song (or album) should flash... Then you go into the playlist menu (music>playlists>on-the-go) and use it like any normal playlist...
When there's songs on the playlist it gives you the option to save or clear at the end of the song list, you select either one and it'll ask for conformation.
It works in both manually sync and auto sync mode. But if you have it on auto sync the play list will be created in iTunes...
So I'm not sure why you don't see songs in it after yo assign them to it, try sending a whole album and then music>playlists>on-the-go the album songs should be listed.
As for reasons to use it well maybe while out and about you realise that you want to hear from two artists at the same time, Radiohead and Bowie, in a shuffle mode. You could make it a on-the-go playlist. Or there's a few podcasts you want to hear in order... so you go down the list and assign them to on-the-go.
Some people use the On the go to note songs that need to be looked at in iTunes later, maybe because its too quiet, badly imported or they don't understand how such a bad song found its way onto the iPod.
Once you save it if you try and put more songs to it, 'on-the-go-1' will be created.
    -hope this helps

  • ITunes Burns but CDs won't play - why?

Using Leopard, I burn a playlist in iTunes to CD. CD finishes and song tracks are visible, but CDs won't play either in CD player or computer. Why? This just started a few weeks ago. Have burned successfully many times before. Have "Audio CD" selected in preferences, etc. Can anyone help? Thanks a million.

I'm having the same trouble. Used to burn just fine until a little while ago. Now, it just hangs up iTunes in an eternal burn cycle. I try to force quit again & again & again but iTunes just sits there, with the blank disc whirring and spinning inside my machine. Cannot force quit so I have to restart just to quit iTunes. When the CD shows up on desktop (and in iTunes) after restart it looks like a normal, properly burned CD, complete with song titles. But when I play it, it's just erratic digital noise.
