Events & Albums

I have set up a number of smart albums, in one of these the photos are grouped into the events they are in. But in the rest of my albums the photos are just all displayed with no reference to the event they come from.
The problem is i don't remember how i managed to get the events to appear within the album.
Can somebody let me know how i managed this.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just click on the one smart album that does what you want and go to the File->Edit Smart album. Then you can see what you used. It probably was Event is in the last x event. That shows the photos and the events they are in. The other options may display the event as well.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

No, I have not chosen photos to share as I assumed that the Apple TV would access all photos and music that are stored on my iMac.
Thanks for your advice. I will check it out.

  • Iphoto - restoring events/albums

I am using OSX 10.6.8 and Iphoto 11 9.2.1. It was not responding so I did the alt and create new album thing - its works now. But I have nothing in it. How do I restore all my events/ albums and slideshows??? I found iphoto in time machine and tried to relaunch it that way but it still only has the one album in it.
My 21st is on Saturday and I need the slide show.. Please help!!

    To back up the Library:
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
If you were to delete iphoto then they would go into the trash. So an obvious thing would be to export the Albums to the finder first. They'll export as folders full of images.
i know want to back up to this drive so albums are separate as they were in windows.
Then export the albums. Quite pointless but that's what you do. Much better to back up the Library.

  • How can I use my Events album for the Screen saver?

I would like to use the "Events" album from my iPhoto 09 for my Screen Saver pictures source, but can't seem to find a way to do this.  I tried to create a new folder in the Screen Saver preferences, but couldn't find a way to get to the Events album.
If anyone has a tip I would appreciate the help.  I'm using Snow Leopard on a 27" iMac. Thanks much!

Try System Preferences - Desktop & Screensaver - Click the + sign at the bottom of the box on the left (see the picture) then choose where the photos are stored and you should be good to go.

  • Photo Event/Album Thumbnail not Synched with iPhoto

    Hi and tnxs for reading.
Is there a way to sync my iPhoto Album/Event Thumbnails with my iOS devices? I am noticing that on them, only the first photos are used as thumbnails.
    Tnxs, cheers

    1) why is this not an automatic feature? I mean, do I have to manually trash that folder every time I do modifications and need to sync them or is it supposed to autoupdate automatically sometimes?
You shouldn't have to. This should update automaically.
I see that my thumbnails are not synched aswell. In iPhoto Events/Albums I can select a thumbnail. However, on my iOS devices photo library, the thumbnail is the first photo of the Event/Album. Any chance to syncautomatically the same thumbnail I have in iPhoto
I have no idea. I'd ask that on a forum for your Phone/Pad/Pod...

  • Relationship between Events, Album & Web Gallery

Hi, I'm new to iPhoto 08. Please bear with me if my question sounds stupid
What is the relationship between Events, Album and Web Gallery?
    1. From Events, when I publish them to Web Gallery, does both environment auto sync with each other?
    2. From Events, I create Album, then I publish to Web Gallery, do all 3 environments auto sync?
    3. Why use Album when I can choose Option 1?
If I want to keep it simple and just want to put my photos to the web gallery, do I just use Option 1?
    Thanks heaps.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Thomas
Nothing - except Smart Albums - auto updates. If you add pics to an Event or Album you'll need to then update the corresponding Web Galleries.
Albums are infinitely more useful than Events for organising your pics.
Events are simple, date-based folders. Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents). However, Events cannot be nested, for instance and are very inflexible. A pic cannot be in more than one Event without duplicating the actual file.
Albums can be nested inside folders, can be created by drag and drop, or any of the Smart Album criteria - including but not limited to Date, Keywords, Ratings, even camera model. Like Playlists in iTunes, Albums are virtual a pic can be in 1,10 or 100 albums with no wasted disk space.

  • IPhoto Event/Album syncing across iPad and Mac.

Does the new iPhoto allow me to delete photos on my iPad and have that reflected on my Mac? I essentially want to manage my iPhoto events/albums on my iPad rather than having to sit at my mac for hours. Thanks very much for your help.

You question might better be served in the iPhoto For iOS community where everyone there probably has iPhoto on their iPad.  Here there's no assuance anyone has an iPad with iPhoto.

  • Displaying photo brings up incorrect images under events/albums??

I just updated to 5.1 hoping it would fix the problem but it's still there.  When I touch an image from an album or event to display on my iphone in both the Photo app and in iPhoto both display an completely different picture.  This does not happen if browsing the camera roll, only if I only if I display an image that is part of an album or event.  I have synced and re-synced with no help.  I both iPhoto to manage my photos better, but it's pretty much worthless since I can't actually display the images I'm trying to edit.
Has anyone else ran into this problem?
    Thanks,

  • My event/album of photos is gone

I have been working with a certain album of photos for weeks in iPhoto. Today I opened iPhoto & the photos are completely gone. The event is gone. I recently did the update to iPhoto 9.1.5. Any thoughts? I am at a loss as to where to look for these photos.

I checked the event sort order, the event is not there anymore.
I am missing both. I created an album & an event for the same set of pictures.
I have fairly new to mac, so not sure where else to search to find the pictures.

  • IPhoto event/album thumbnails missing

    Since updating
    iPhoto '11 ver. 9.2.3 (629.52)
the event key photos are missing (Picture 1) and the thumbnails for the actual photos are missing as well (Picture 2). I have not reinstalled iPhoto nor have i taken any other actions to solve this issue. the image files are still present and within the iPhoto library (Picture 3) however this issue is purely cosmetic.
note: I have rudimentary technical literacy and i have tried troubleshooting through the support web-site/several forums.
    please advise.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto Events/Album Preview is random?

    Hi and tnxs for reading,
since I am synching my photo album to my iOS devices through iLife iPhoto instead of files folders, I am noticing that the photo preview of Events and Albums on my iPad and iPhone are not the same I chose in iPhoto on the Mac... Is there a way to tell my iOS device that I want the same keyphotos I have on my Mac?
    Tnxs.

    Which iPhoto version?
The order of selected iPhoto albums in the Albums window under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences is reflected on my iPhone.
I'm using the selected albums, events, and faces option so maybe this makes a difference but it shouldn't.

  • IOS 8 Photos App - Events Album Sort Order is Screwed

    Hi,
When I sync my photos (that are grouped into Events) from my Mac iPhoto Library, to my iPhone and view them in the iOS 8 Photos App, all the events are no longer sorted in order - they used to be sorted chronologically in 7.1.
To try and find the event photos that you are looking for is now impossible.
Does any one known how to fix this or is it a regression bug that they have introduced with iOS 8?
    Rgds
    Gary

This is such a cluster-f*ck.  I was stunned when I found the change to iOS 8 brought this mixed up order of my events from my iMac's iPhoto.  Having them in Events by month/year was the only way I could keep a reasonable handle on where everything is.  This is completely unacceptable from Apple.
Then again, it seems from what I read around the Internet, those of us using iPhoto as our managing software AND using it to sync pics to our i-devices are a clear and dwindling minority.  Maybe Apple just didn't think it important enough to bother, but they need to fix this.
What would have been completely helpful and awesome with iOS 8 would be the importing of keywords (and descriptions, but at least keywords) for those of us syncing from iPhoto.  I can understand why Apple wouldn't have done so years ago (memory onboard our i-devices), but today there's no reason for this.  Those tiny, tiny bits of data should come over with the photos to make them searchable by keyword.  I'd care less about the Events being out of order if I could search by keyword on my iPhone or iPad.
Come on Apple... we have enough storage space to make this happen.

  • New Events are appearing from Flickr Albums

New Events are being created from the pictures that are located in some (but not all) of my flickr synced albums. The flickr albums then are synced with the photos in these events. So I can't just delete the event as it then deletes all of the photos that are synced. Any help would be great in resolving the issue. My current idea is that I will just stop syncing with flickr but I really enjoy the feature.

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photos in all album gone, but can see it under photo/event

    Hi there,
All my photos gone in album (album gone too, just left with folder) after I switched on the computer this morning. However, most of the photos are (just not the photos which I uploaded yesterday) are basically "safe" under photo/ event, just not in the album list.
Any idea what can I do so I don't have to sort out all the photo again? I guess it must be some reasons till all the albums+most of the photos gone without clicking anything but just switched on the computer.
I've checked with lots of forums but seem nothing work with my situation. I am using iPhoto'11 and I have bout 500GB space in my hard-Drive.
    Thanks!!!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
