Events have disappeared

I upgraded to Leopard about a month ago. Yesterday I set up a time machine disk and performed a backup. When I looked at iPhoto this morning, I was surprised to see that all of my events except for two were gone. I was happy to see that all of my photos were still present, all stuffed into one of the remaining events. I checked Time Machine to see if the backup contained the events, but sadly no. Any idea about how to restore the events? Recreating them will take hours.
Interestingly, several but not all of my old events (empty, without photos) can be seen in the "Event Titles" view but not the regular "Events" view. Also, I started to recreate my events before appealing to the forum for help. I recreated an event and was surprised to see that the photo that I had set as the key photo for that event when I originally created the event a year ago was already chosen! It is not the first photo in the group. It makes me think that the information about my events still exists somewhere.
Thanks for reading this.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you can confirm that the subfolders in the library's Original folder do contain the files you can create a new library and import the Original folder from the current library. You'll get the same events but not any albums, slideshows, keywords, etc.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I have downloaded IOS7 on my iPhone and all calendar events have disappeared. The general functions of the calendar have changed and are definitely not 'user friendly'. How can I retrieve my calendar events. Will Apple improve the calendar function or revert to the previous system. Even the typing function on IOS 7 is faulty - very slow to respond to the keyboard. I no longer enjoy using my iPhone. Can anyone assist. Thank you

Very strange! All of my calendar events have reappeared. This has happened one week after downloading iOS 7
The calendar however,  is not easy to use.
The typing function on the phone has  become even slower. Have to wait for each letter to show on screen.

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

  • Photos in some events have disappeared....

Photos in some events have disappeared leaving a grey image of a sunset and palm tree. I have tried rebuilding iPhoto 11, but no change. What can I do to restore these?

Thanks Japp74.  The photos were still in the main photo file, but the events had dissappeared. I have now created new events. I'm not sure what has happened but it may be something to do with iCloud as the photos had moved from several events on seperate days into one large event with several dates.  thi si sthe first time this has happened so may be a glitch that Apple fix in the future.

  • ICal event have disappeared after upgrading to Lion. Please help!

After upgrading to Lion, pre-existed calendar events (Newer ones) have disappeared. How can I recover?

    Greetings Alex,
If you have a backup of your computer from before you upgraded then you can restore the data from your backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
--- Let us know if you have a backup and if so, what type it is and we can tell you how to restore your calendars.
--- If you don't have a backup, consider starting one following the article above ASAP.  Anyone with information they care about on their computer should have a backup.  It is a hard lesson that every computer user learns at least once.
If you do not have a backup from before you upgraded:
    1. Make an iCal backup so you don't lose what you have currently:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase)
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
---NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion:
    4. Open iCal and see if the events you are looking for magically reappear.
If the events don't appear and you don't have a backup or have the events on another device like an iPhone or iPad then your only other option would be to use data recovery software or a data recovery company to try to get the data back (although it might be easier to just re-create the data as best you can).

You can contact a local Apple Authorized Provider to see if they offer data recovery services: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
There are many nationwide / worldwide data recovery companies out there.  Here are a few examples:

  • Many contacts and calendar events have disappeared

Many of my contacts and calendar events have suddenly disappeared. Can they be retrieved?

Mine too. I have a J Home and J Work calendar. The J Home calendar is completely gone and had all my personal events. I checked iCloud and it is gone there. No one has access except me. I opened my calendar on my iphone this afternoon to add an appt for my son. The data was there and basically disappeared in front of my eyes. I didn't touch the calendars menu until everything was gone so it wasn't me. I'm losing my mind right now. Everything is gone...just gone.
I just noticed my wife's shared calendars also no longer appear on my phone or iCloud. Both of her calendars appear on her iCloud and they still say they are shared with me. That's just f****n great. iCloud broke something and I'm the one to suffer. I'll bet anything Apple won't do anything to help as they don't back up iCloud data. I'm sure they do as they are required by law, but they won't admit it. SONOFA!!!!

  • Future events have disappeared on calendar on both iphone and airmac

    Hi,
I used to only use my calender on my iphone.
Now that I have a MacBook Air I started using my calender on the macBook Air, too.
Reward: events that used to show on my iphone, but somehow were not synchronised on the calender on my laptop have now also disappeared from my iphone.
Definetly makes me want to go back to paper calenders!!!!!
    For info:
    - On icloud the caldendar button is green and ticked, but I have never really used icloud.
    - When I click calendar in my calendar on my ophone I have the following calendars showing: a) Gmail: my email address, contacts birthdays, holidays b) icloud: calendar, home, work, work
    - I also have two apple IDs. I mostly use this one and have forgotten the old one, but maybe some of the confusion is still due to this.
Even when I tick all of the above, the events that I need do not show !!!!
    My questions:
    - How can I reduce the number of my calendars without making further events go away?
    - How can I make the events that I urgently need come back?
    - How can I kill my old apple ID (even though I of course do not remember its password)?
    Thank you!

    Do you use MobileMe?
What would be helpful in the setup instructions for MobileMe but are not.
If you are syncing over the air with Mobile Me then DO NOT sync via the cable with Address Book (Outlook or Windows Contacts on PC). This causes duplicates. You are telling the iPhone to bring what is in those programs to the iPhone (one copy). Then you are syncing from the cloud (Mobile Me copy two).
The iPhone will do exactly as you tell it to do.
The easiest way to remove duplicates.
    1. On the info tab in iTunes uncheck sync contact and sync calendars.
    2. On the iPhone>settings>mail contacts calendars>ME account>slide to off contacts and calendars.
    3. Log into Me.com and look at contacts and calendars and make sure there are no duplicates.
    4. On the iPhone>settings>mail contacts calendars>ME account> slide to on contacts and calendars. When prompted choose to Replace with info from Me.com

  • Photos in events have disappeared - the folder just shows a palm tree

In my events page, some of the events now just show a palm tree with nothing in it, my photos have diasappeared, any ideas

    Restore from your back up.

  • My iphoto events have disappeared

I was moving my events to an attached drive, and all of the sudden all of my events are gone, except 4.  Any ideas?

Just not sure what happened to the Events I had.  I wasn't dragging and dropping them.
When you are dragging photos in Photos View (when event titles are showing) and accidentally drop them, if it are too many photos, you may accidentally merge events.
But if you see all photos in "Photos" view, you can simply select any of the photos, ctrl-click it, and select "Show Event". Then you will see, where they went to. To recreate your original events by opening one of they merged events and splitting it (Events > Spilt Event).
Another possibility is, that your try to export too many photos at once has corrupted the iPhoto Library. What is your iPhoto version? In iPhoto '11 you can repair the library by holding down the ⌥⌘-key combination while double clicking iPhoto. This will bring up the Library First Aid Tools. Select to rebuild the Library from the panel.

  • My calendar has stopped storing or showing events I add. All of my appts/ birthdays/to do items have disappeared and it will not add new ones

My items will not post to my iphone and other events have disappeared   What is going on?

Check icloud.com to see if your calendar events are still there.  If they are, add any missing ones from your phone, then go to Settings>iCloud, turn Calendars off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (they will still be in iCloud), then turn Calendars back on.  Then try adding a new event on your phone and see if it appears on icloud.com now.

  • In events that have a movie, my photos have disappeared?

In my iPhoto, the Events that had video saved, the photos have disappeared for some reason. If there wasn't a video in an Event then the photos are still there!
    Help please!

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Hi everyone. I have just started having problems with iCal.  Events that I thought I had deleted are appearing on Print Preview and on print outs. Likewise Events which I have not deleted have disappeared from my calenders, but appear in print preview.

Hi everybody. I have recently started having problems with iCal (Version 2.05 (1069). Events that I thought I had deleted appear in Print Preview and Print Outs. Likewise Events that I have not deleted have disappeared from my calender (Month View) but appear in Print Preview and Print Outs. I see that there have been similar problems with Events disappearing especially in Month View. I wondered how print preview seemrd to be picking everything up deleted or not, and what the solution may be?. First time of Posting. I hope I haven't embarassed myself.

    Hmmmm.
At the very least there must be a "com.apple.ical.plist"...iCal would not function without it.
Click on the Finder icon in the dock
    Click on Go > Home
    Double-click Library
    Double-click Preferences
Look for a file called "com.apple.ical.plist" and remove it to the trash.

  • Can I find photos from an entire event that were just loaded but seem to have disappeared?

Can I find photos from an entire event that seem to have disappeared?

    Larry,
I have a Mac Book Pro  2.53 GHz  Mid 2009
    Using OS X lion 10.75
I don't know what version of iphoto....just what was originally installed but I use an external storage drive for my photos and use time machine for back up.
I loaded the photos Friday night- thought they went into an event, deleted photos from my camera (dumb, I know) then in the morning a grey box with event date shows palm tree and sunset image but no photos.

  • IPhoto events folders have disappeared...

Hi. Some of my events folders seem to have disappeared from iPhoto (any folder containing photos from before October 2008). Does anyone know how I can retrieve them?? I'm freaking out - I haven't deleted anything, so I'm not sure where they've gone. Thanks!

    Hi Terence,
I did a little research and the loss of all my event folders occurred on Oct. 23rd.  That must be when I upgraded to iPhoto '11 v 9.2.1.  Sounds about right to me as that is about the time we got our iPhone 4S's
If I restore the library from a Time Machine back up before Oct. 23rd in order to reclaim all my event folders,  it will be a backup with the earlier version of iPhoto.
    Because of that, do/can/should I:
    1.  First go into Time Machine and confirm I have a previous working version of iPhoto and all my pictures up to Oct. 23rd.  (Assume it never hurts to double check these things.)
    2.  After confirming I have all my pics from before Oct. 23rd and a working previous version of iPhoto, delete iPhoto '11 v 9.2.1 from my MacBook Pro's Application folder and the iPhoto picture library in "Photo" in the Finder.  Then bring back the earlier version of iPhoto with its pictures from a Time Machine backup before Oct. 23rd?
    3.  Upgrade to iPhoto '11 v 9.2.1 again from the Mac App Store (I assume it will cost nothing as I alreay bought it).
    4.  Hope that this time the upgrade doesn't result in removing all my events as happened the first time I installed iPhoto '11 v 9.2.1
I am thinking my only other option is to keep what I have, go into iPhoto and choose "Autosplit Events" (maybe choose 1 week as the event time span instead of 1 day).  Connect my Time Machine backup harddrive to another computer that has the older version of iPhoto.  Open my iPhoto library on that second computer and place it side by side with my computer move through the events on that second computer's iPhoto library and copy the event title and tidy up the events based on that second computer.  Sounds pretty tedious, but my library goes back 11 years and there is no way I will remember what some of those earlier photos are about without some help.
I hoping, of course, your backup idea, will work despite the different versions of iPhoto I will have to deal with.
    Thanks for all your help.
