Events imported in wrong order

I've got about 1,000 existing clips from my Sony hard disk camcorder which aren't compatible with IMovie. So I've had to convert them to DV using the excellent MPEG Streamclip from squared5.com
When I then import the clips into IMovie, the clips had the wrong date.
So I then used the excellent 'A Better Finder Attributes' to rename the files back to their original dates. This was a very painful manual process of renaming the files back to their original dates.
I then tried importing into IMovie again. The clips are imported in approximately the right order - but some events on the same day and imported in a random order - despite the filenames being sequential.
I've summised the reason is because some of the files have the same date and time stamp - i.e. a 10 second clip followed by a 20 second clip would have the same YYMMDD timestamp - so I'm assuming IMovie only looks down to the minute, not the second!!
I cannot bear the thought of going through 1000 files to change the timestamps again.
Is there an automated way of going through the 1000 files, and changing the timestamp in increments of (say) 2 minutes? Then, each clip would be 2 minutes later than the previous, so they'd presumably import in the correct order?
An additional problem - when importing the 1,000 clips, is there a way to say "split events on different days into a new event" (like there is when importing from DV tapes?) Otherwise, even when I crack the date/time issue, I'll then have to manually split events up - time consuming again.
I'm finding the whole IMovie process very frustrating to say the least. Any suggestions of making this whole process easier? The camcorder is an ongoing concern as I can't afford to buy a new one for a few years yet.
Thanks

Thanks, yeah, I'm already using a Better Finder Renamer.
I've tried appending "originalfilename-" to the filenames ; it doesn't seem to work then. But if I just use your "clip-" notation, it seems to work fine, and imports into the correct dates.
But...
Question....
I've imported a load of DV tapes from years ago, and it's quite clever, because there's a tickbox where you can have separate events for different days, so after you've imported a tape (which may span 3 months), it creates handy separate events for the different days. I like this.
However, when importing my DV footage (that I've converted from my MPG hard disk camcorder), I select the import function, then I select (say) 99 files from 2007. IMovie then imports them - seemingly as one big event. There is no option to split the events per day. So, for those 99 files, assuming 33 of them were from 1st March, 33 were from 2nd march, and 33 were from 3rd March, it would be nice to have the import automatically split into 3 events (just like it does for DV tape).
There is an (artificial) way of doing it. After the import, I click on the events pane, and select "show separate days in events". This has the desired effect, but is a somewhat fake way of doing it (it isn't necessary for my DV tapes). Is there a way of doing it during import?
(And I'm slightly confused by your suggestion of using the filename as the event name. I wouldn't know how to do this).
Thanks again.

• My iPhoto orders events in a wrong order

I don't know due to which glitch, but my events with new pictures taken in 2011 started appearing at the top of iPhoto browser - where oldest photos reside. It's pretty weird, as all events should appear at the bottom of iPhoto browser, together with other, recent events. So my iPhoto looks like this - first there are some events from 2004, then events from 2011, then events from 2004 until 2011 in a nice order. Does anyone knows how some of 2011 events ended up grouped with 2004? Is there a way to get rid of this?

• Clips in wrong order after importing

Hello,
I have a digital Sony camcorder HDR-SR7E. I had a 7 day trip and filmed a lot. When i was importing it to imovie all seemed fine but after importing it all the clips were in the wrong order. And i belive there is no way of sorting the clips or is there?
I found something called pane reliever for imovie but the download link is not working. Or maybe someone else has any experience with this kind of a problem.
Thank you very much for any replies,
Madis

And i belive there is no way of sorting the clips or is there?
Not from within iMovie '08. You can however, download and open a utility called "A Better Finder Attributes", close iMovie '08, open the problem events folder, drag and drop your imported clips to the utility, change the "creation" dates and/or times, and then re-open iMovie '08. If all went well, your "Event" clips will be re-ordered during the initialization "scan" according to their creation dates/times within the event.
I found something called pane reliever for imovie but the download link is not working.
This utility appears to have been written originally for OS 8 and 9 and carried over to OS 10.1 thru 10.3 but I don't see any reference to OS 10.4, OS 10.5, or use with iMovie '08. I would stick with simply changing the Finder attributes for the files.

• Palm desktop calendar - in month view, event times are in wrong order!

I use Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on my Windows XP machine (I don't own a PDA). I enter my appointments in Week view and they look fine, but when I go to Month view (I want to print this view), the events for a given day show up in the wrong order!
For example, on one day I see:
9a Event
10:30a Event
2p Event
12p Event
and on the next day I see:
9a Event
2p Event
10a Event
I tried changing things in Options and Preferences - no luck. I have messed around with it and can't figure out any weird pattern it might be sorting by (I've tried re-entering appointments to see whether it sorts by the last time they were entered/edited, and looked into whether it was sorting by category, length of event name, first digit of the time, length of time, alphabetically by event name, by whether it repeats/has a location/has a note/has an alarm/was entered by clicking once and typing or by right-clicking). It just seems baffling, and it definitely seems like a bug, since of course you'd want your events sorted by time.
Does anyone know what's going on or have this problem?
Thanks!
Post relates to: None

I had looked at this in response to another post, and didn't notice the same problem. But then I went back further and noticed it sure enough...it's only occasional.
I haven't done any kind of analysis as you have apparently done, mostly because I don't really use the desktop application except occasionally.
Thought maybe it sorts repeating events differently than single events, but I've seen it both ways, so that doesn't seem to be it.
It doesn't bother me enough, but it certainly seems like it would warrant an email support request to Palm, to see if they have an answer.

• "table is in wrong order" error while importing xml...

Hi everyone,
We are currently working in XML workflow in InDesign CS4. We are facing some problem in table part. We are converting CALS xml tables to InDesign table format, error appears in some of the tables while importing into InDesign, like "table is in wrong order".
How can i find the exact errors in the tables? Specifically i have to find which cells giving trouble. Herewith i attached the sample xml file for your references.
Can anyone look into this and help me out. Also suggest me to resolve this issue.

• After 9.3.2 update, events in wrong order

After the update to 9.3.2, my events have switched all around and are out of order. When I try to select the "sort albums" sub menu, nothing appears. None of the drop down menu items are available.
Any thoughts?

IPhoto orders photos using a SQLite database structure - much more up to date and much more powerful than an antique file based organization. If you do not want the organizational and search power of a SQL database then the answer is really simple. Do not use it and go back to your old fashioned methods. No one forces you to use iPhoto

• Import to Facebook...wrong order!

Hi there, I had a look on these forums to try and solve this problem but can't find any documentation of it.
When I upload photos to Facebook, be it as part of a whole album, or just dragging some photos into an already-existing album...without fail, iPhoto uploads them to Facebook in totally the wrong order. It's not backwards order, it's just random order.
I'm about to try and upload an album of 200+ photos to Facebook and I don't want to do it and then have to manually fix the order myself. Otherwise, there's no problem so...why does this keep happening?!
Thanks for any help!

Hi Jernobyl, I've had more problems with this myself. It seems related to the fact that iPhoto doesn't recognise Facebook's 200 photo per album maximum. The way around it is to make sure your album doesn't have more than 200 photos (in total, not per upload).

• XML Parsing attributes with encoded ampersand causes wrong order

Hi all,
I am writing in the forum first (because it could be that i am doing something wrong.... but i think it is a bug. Nonetheless, i thought i'd write my problem up here first.
I am using Java 6, and this has been reproduced on both windows and linux.
java version "1.6.0_03"
Problem:
read XML file into org.w3c.dom.Document.
XML File has some attributes which contain ampersand. These are escaped as (i think) is prescribed by the rule of XML. For example:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<lang>
<text dna="8233" ro="chisturi de plex coroid (>=1.5 mm)" it="Cisti del plesso corioideo(>=1.5mm)" tr="Koroıd pleksus kisti (>=1.5 mm)" pt_br="Cisto do plexo coróide (>=1,5 mm)" de="Choroidplexus Zyste (>=1,5 mm)" el="Κύστεις χοροειδούς πλέγματος (>= 1.5 mm)" zh_cn="脉络膜囊肿（>= 1.5 mm）" pt="Quisto do plexo coroideu (>=1,5 mm)" bg="Киста на хориоидния плексус (>= 1.5 mm)" fr="Kystes du plexus choroide (>= 1,5 mm)" en="Choroid plexus cysts (>=1.5 mm)" ru="кисты сосудистых сплетений (>=1.5 mm)" es="Quiste del plexo coroideo (>=1.5 mm)" ja="脈絡膜嚢胞（>=1.5mm）" nl="Plexus choroidus cyste (>= 1,5 mm)" />
</lang>As you might understand, we need to have the fixed text '>' for later processing. (not the greater than symbol '>' but the escaped version of it).
Therefore, I escape the ampersand (encode?) and leave the rest of the text as is. And so my > becomes >
All ok?
Symptom:
in fetching attributes, for example by the getAttribute("en") type call, the wrong attribute values are fetched.
Not only that, if i only read to Document instance, and write back to file, the attributes are shown mixed up.
eg:
dna: 8233, ro=chisturi de plex coroid (>=1.5 mm), en=кисты сосудистых сплетений (>=1, de=Choroidplexus Zyste (>=1,5 mm)Here you can see that 'en' is shown holding what looks like greek, ... (what is ru as a country-code anyway?) where it should have obviously had the english text that originally was associated with the attribute 'en'
This seems very strange and unexpected to me. I would have thought that in escaping (encoding) the ampersand, i have fulfilled all requirements of me, and that should be that.
There is also no error that seems to occur.... we simply get the wrong order when fetching attributes.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug that should be submitted?
Kind Regards, and thanks to all responders/readers.
Sean
p.s. previously I had not been escaping the ampersand. This meant that I lost my ampersand in fetching attributes, AND the attribute order was ALSO WRONG!
In fact, the wrong order was what led me to read about how to correctly encode ampersand at all. I had been hoping that correctly encoding would fix the order problem, but it didn't.

Hi kdgregory ,
Firstly, sorry if there has been a misunderstanding on my part. If i did not reply to the question you raised, I appologise.
In this 'reply' I hope not to risk further misunderstanding, and have simply given the most basic example which will cause the problem I am talking about, as well as short instructions on what XML to remove to make the problem disappear.
Secondly, as this page seems to be displayed in ISO 8859-1, this is the reason the xml I have posted looks garbled. The xml is UTF-8. I have provided a link to the example xml file for the sample below
[example xml file UTF-8|http://sean.freeshell.org/java/less2.xml]
As for your most recent questions:
Is it specified as an entity? To my knowledge (so far as my understanding of what an entity is) , yes, I am including entities in my xml. In my below example, the entities are the code for the greater than symbol. I am under the understanding that this is allowed in XML ??
Is it an actual literal character (0xA0)? No, I am specifying 'greater than' entity (code?) in order to include the actual symbol in the end result. I am encoding it in form 'ampersand', 'g character', 't character', 'colon' in order for it to work, according to information I have read on various web pages. A quick google search will show you where I got such information from, example website: https://studio.tellme.com/general/xmlprimer.html
Here is my sample program. It is longer than the one you kindly provided only because it prints out all attributes of the element it looks for. To use it, only change the name of the file it loads.
I have given the xml code seperately so it can be easily copied and saved to file.
Results you can expect from running this small test example?
1. a mixed up list of attributes where attribute node name no longer matches its assigned attribute values (not for all attributes, but some).
2. removing the attribute bg from the 'text' element will reduce most of these symptoms, but not all. Removing another attribute from the element will most likely make the end result look normal again.
3. No exception is thrown by the presence of non xml characters.
IMPORTANT!!! I have only just (unfortunately) noticed what this page does to my unicode characters... all the the international characters get turned into funny codes when previewed and viewed on this page.
Whereas the only codes I am explicitly including in this XML is the greater than symbol. The rest were international characters.
Perhaps that is the problem?
Perhaps there is an international characters problem?
I am quite sure that these characters are all UTF-8 because when I open up this xml file in firefox, It displays correctly, and in checking the character encoding, firefox reports UTF-8.
In order to provide an un-garbled xml file, I will provide it at this link:
link to xml file: [http://sean.freeshell.org/java/less2.xml]
Again, sorry for any hassle and/or delay with my reply, or poor reply. I did not mean to waste anyones time.
It will be appreciated however if an answer can be found for this problem. Chiefly,
1. Is this a bug?
2. Is the XML correct? (if not, then all those websites i've been reading are giving false information? )
Kindest Regards,

• BUG: LR displays fast FPS series in wrong order

I've taken some pictureseries with my Nikon D200 with fast continious mode (5 frames per second).
When importing them into the LR library, some of the pictures (from the fast fps series) show up in wrong order (quite annoying).
This does not apply to pictures from "normal" shootings, just the fast fps ones.
This happens both in folder view and other views based on keywords etc.
I assume LR displays the pictures according to time in exif info, and doesn't know what to do when the pictures have the same time info (which I guess happens at high fps-rates).
But wouldn't it be logical when this issue accours, that LR would look at the filenames (of the conflicting files) and display pictures chronological based on numbering. Instead, it seemes to be making wild guesses.
My files looks like this:
YYYYMMDD_DSC####_more_info.nef
Is this a known issue?
regards Carl

David,
I think you're right. I do a lot of continuous stuff with my D200 and I noticed some time ago it writes the files "out of order" to the card. This is really a feature of fast digital cameras and not a bug in Lightroom, it's to do with the strategy the cameras use when you give them a lot of data, pause a moment, and then do it again while they are still writing to the card. "Creation Time" is really "Write-to-Card time".
I really can't see how it's an issue with YYYYMMDD_DSC####, though; they could still be sorted on filename post-import, surely?
I just did a test renaming _DH35222.NEF to bananas_DH35222.NEF in the operating system; LR blinked once then updated the name, so I don't really see why the renaming couldn't in principle be done after import by a little external script, with the LR database open.
I can't help thinking that all this renaming and reshuffling is all just making work for oneself though. The files are stored in date-based folders by default, can be sorted on (among other things) filename and (best of all) can be browsed visually.
Still, all progress depends on the "unreasonable man" who persists in adapting the world to himself, according to George Bernard Shaw.

• When dragging an iPhoto event to iDVD, the order in which the pictures appear changes without any apparent rhyme or reason. Any ideas on how to prevent that from happening?

When importing an iPhoto event into iDVD (iLife '11 versions of both) by dragging it from iPhoto to iDVD, the sequence of the photos is far different in the iDVD project than in the iPhoto event, without any apparent rhyme or reason for the change. Any way to avoid having to resort all the photos in iDVD?

Create an album from that Event and sort the photos the way you want. Then drag that album icon from the Media Browser in iDVD into the slideshow area. They will import in the order that's in the album.

Jane:
I just created a test project with the Portfolio-Color theme. I selected text for the link item instead of the default button. I then created 10 slideshow links, placing them in two columns of 5 each. 1-5 and 6-10. After aligning by eye I was able to navigate down each column in order. However, when I dragged 10 video clips into a similar menu the navigation order went all over the place as you experienced. I've tried using the regular buttons with snap to grid enabled for importing. It appears that that theme wants to import across the top row first and then the bottom next. With only 5 items it puts two on the top and 3 on the bottom.
You may have to go with three menus: the top menu has two folders, slideshows 1-5 and slideshows 6-10. Then place your slideshows in each folder accordingly and let it do the placement, either text wise or button wise.
Either that or find a new theme what will work better with 10 items on a page.

• Photos are show in wrong order

Hello,
I bought an iPod Touch 32 GB because I thought it's a good way to carry my pictures with me.
The problem is that within the folders/albums the pictures are displayed in the wrong order. It's not chronlogically, by name or something else I can identify.
What have I done?
I'm using a XP laptop and my pictures are stored in several folders on a NAS. First I made sure that the pictures were sorted by "picture taken on". Then I selected the picture folder in iTunes and selected several subfolders to be transferred to the iPod. It took a while as we are talking of 15.000 pictures. Some of the folders have 10 or 20 pictures, some of the folders have 200 or even 400 pictures. It's important for me that they will be displayed in a chronological or by name. But I have the feeling that starting from a certain amount of pictures (like 30 or 40) it completely destroys the structure.
What can I do?
I hope I was able to make my point as I'm writing you from Germany and my English is not the best.
Please help me to get this problem solved.

• Import standard Purchase Order process and interface tables

Hi all,
We are populating three PO interface tables from our custom developed application. PO_HEADERS_INTERFACE, PO_LINES_INTERFACE and PO_DISTRIBUTIONS_INTERFACE. We are using 11.5.10.2 version of Oracle Apps.
Initially we did not manage to populate the distributions interface table, but, now we are populating it. And after doing so, when we run the Import standard Purchase Order process for 'Approved' POs, the process_id for even the record which has correct distributions info also gets 'Rejected' as a value. The process is considering a mix of records : the approved POs that DO NOT HAVE distribution info in PO_DISTRIBUTIONS_INTERFACE (which we had not managed to populate) and the approved POs that HAVE distribution info in PO_DISTRIBUTIONS_INTERFACE.
does the Import standard Purchase Order process populate partial data that could be good or it rejects the whole lot of records?
Can anyone guide on this issue?

I have run the process for an approved PO with distributions info in PO_DISTRIBUTIONS_INTERFACE. This time no mixed data. In PO_INTERFACE_ERRORS table, an entry was found: for column name : PO_DISTRIBUTION_ID in ERROR_MESSAGE column 'Error: Has no distributions'.

After carrying out number of tests, I have found out that
1) if the approval_status for the po is 'Approved' in the po_headers_interface table, it gives the above mentioned error and the process_id is 'rejected'.
2) if the approval_status for the po is 'Incomplete' in the po_headers_interface table, the process add the 'accepted' value for the process_id. But, the charge account number is not populated in shipments.

There has been some progress on this issue. The process sees distributions data into the PO_DISTRIBUTIONS_INTERFACE table. Yet the following errors are found in the process log file:
Start dist default process
before getting period name
after getting period name
-->Intfc error occurred ...PO_PDOI_INVALID_GL_ENC_PER
before workflow
unit price = 18.5, rate = , unit price in functional currency = 18.5
after workflow
Start dist creation process
Start dist validation process
-->Intfc error occurred ...PO_PDOI_INVALID_BUDGET_ACCT
Start insert new record into po_distributions
Distribution ID: 252
dist num: 1
last updated by: 1189
po header id: 5283
po line id: 5878
line loc id: 5924
sob id: 21
cc id: 1560
qty ordered: 10
Req Header Ref num :
Req line Ref num :
Req dist id :
ROW ID: AAHUc1AFPAAAQ04AAC
call tax
Rollback for the Last Errored Line: 10
All Lines in error - Rolling back the header
We opened new GL periods for the calendar and yet same errrors are seen. Can anyone suggest any solution?
Kind regards,
Aparna
