Events in a shared library
I am sharing my library over my home network, and wondering if I can view the photos by events while I view them. Currently all 12000 + of my photos show up with no events structure and are in one large group when viewing them on the second computer (viewing shared photos of first computer's library).
Thanks to anyone with a recommendation,
Are you kidding? The media browser is HORRID. Let me list the problems with it:
1) I have close to 15,000 images in my iPhoto library and I do not use titles at all. I usually add anywhere from 250 - 800 images at a time after each trip we take so I can't even imagine how much time it would take me to title that many images. Therefore searching is useless.
2) There is no way to adjust the size of the events or the image thumbnails when you open an event. I'm very visual and it is a horrible pain to try to sift through an event using only the tiniest thumbnails or by viewing one photo at a time in large view. This is an extremely time consuming method when each event can hold up to 800 photos.
3) There is no way to go back and forth between the events and the photos. When I search through photos visually I start by looking through the Events. When I get to one I think might have the photo I'm looking for I open it which allows me to see all of the photos within, albeit in tiny thumbnails. However, when I'm finished and I want to go back to looking at the Events my only option is to click on Events in the top portion of the window. This takes me all the way back to the first Event and I have to scroll through all of the Events again to pick up where I left off. This is ridiculous. Look at what Apple has done in recent versions of OS X with CoverFlow, QuickLook and the Finder. Integrating something like that into the media browser seems only logical but instead we're forced to use something that hasn't been upgraded in years.
4) Even though I have Keywords set to be visible when viewing Event photos via iPhoto they are not visible in the media browser.
5) Most of the great search features that are built into iTunes are not available in the media browser.
I could go on and on but if you look at the UI design advances that Apple has made with the Finder over the past few years the media browser is just not up to the same standards, not by a long shot.

Shared Library Doesn't Display Events
I want to share my iPhoto library with another user on the same computer. So in Preferences I turned on sharing. When the other user logs in and selects the shared library they just get a panel with thousands of loose photos unlike the original library that has them separated into Events. How do I fix that? Thanks!
There's nothing to fix, you can't share the Events. What you can do is share Albums. You can quickly create albums from Events simply by selecting all the pics in an Event (command-a) and going Shift-command-n (or File -> New Album from Selection)

IPhoto 9.4.3 Crashes when importing from Shared Library
I have an early 08 Mac Pro with Mountain Lion running iPhoto 9.4.3. I'm attempting to import a good nubmer of photos from a shared library which resides on my MBP also running 10.8.2 and iPhoto 9.4.3. It starts to import, but after about 10-20 photos (Nikon Raw) it crashes. Consistently. Deleted plist, didn't fix it. Created a new test library, same issue. I'm attempting to copy over several hundred at a time, which I know is ridiculous, but a) I have too many to import going one by one or 20 by 20, and b) it didn't have a problem earlier when doing the same thing. I was importing >300 at a time last week.
My library is large, >100gb if that helps.
Here is the crash report. Please help me figure out what is going on!!!!

If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory. -

perhaps you have to install a informatica fix or a DAC patch -
How to load external SWF used sharing library.
Hi~~~
Before ask the question, plz understand my bad English..
Recently I try to load the Swf file that is maded by Flash CS 6.0.
Especially it used shared library..
When I try to load this SWF, I used FileStream instead URLRequest.
This is because the target SWF File located same device with the Swf Application.. So when I use the URLRequest
it give me the warning - Sandbox security violation.
But by using FileStream, the warning did not occur.
This is the sample code below..
var myFile = new File(path);
var myStream = new FileStream();
myStream.open(myFile, FileMode.READ;
var myBytes:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
myStream.readBytes( myBytes );
mSwfLoader.loadBytes( fileStream, context );
mSwfLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadedComplete);
As you can see, I made a event listener to get the content of the Loader, after receving Complete Event(I guess.. after decording?).
But I can't receive any event call, so I removed symbol used sharing library in the SWF.
And this gave me the result as I respected... So I guess the problem caused by using sharing Library..!
(In parenthease, I can see the valid result in running debug time on the Flash CS6..)
What should I do? I respect that using sharing libary give saving memory. So I want to using it as possible.
Thanks for your reading...!Here is one way:

HTH, -
Have new iMac with iPhoto sharing turned on. When the shared library is clicked the library disappears or starts to load then disappears? What is wrong?
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then your current library is damaged and needs repair.
Therefore make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If you experience the same problem with the test library then try this basic fix a try: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that fails a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
Then install iPhoto from the source it came on originally.

Preview SWF which contains a Run Time Shared Library
All of our assets share fonts using a run time shared library (RSL) so that we dont need to embedd the fonts in each and every seperate swf. The swf looks for a sharedFonts.swf file one level/directory up from where it is currently at. Inside the assets' RSL the url is ../sharedFonts.swf.
So with a program like Adobe Bridge I just need to find out where Bridge is previewing the file from and then one directory up from that I need to place in the sharedFonts.swf. The place that I am viewing it from is already setup that way and works correctly if I simply open the swf without using some kind of program. So my guess is that Bridge takes the swf and places it somewhere within itself and then previews it or there is simply a bug with Bridge since currently it is just crashing.
I have some logs using windows event viewer and that shows me that the module that is failing is AdobeSWFL.dll which I am guessing is library to preview items.
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS5\Bridge.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\APE\3.1\AdobeSWFL.dll
Has anyone ran into something like this before? Any ideas on what to do here?
Thank you!I'm having the same problem. A coworker showed me how he uses Bridge to navigate all of his Photoshop and Illustrator files. As a Flash artist, I tried using Bridge to preview SWFs, and discovered the auto-crash feature.
Bridge crashes every time I click on a SWF that uses a runtime shared library. Frustrating!
Were it not for this bug, our studio's Flash artists would likely integrate Bridge into our pipeline. A fix, or directions on fixing the issue would be greatly appreciated. -
PowerPoint Launch Failure - Shared Library
-------------------------
Application launch Failure
The application "PowerPoint" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<Microsoft PowerPoint><OpenGLLibrary><CFMPriv_AGL>"
- That is the message I get as soon as I double click on PowerPoint. Both Word and Excel work fine. All of the other apps I have seem to work fine. I am running 10.3.9. I have 1 Gig of RAM.
- SteveRidesSteel has an iBook G4 that also has the same problem. He is running 10.4.7
- Casey has the same problem.
- Several people all over the internet have had shared library errors after installing various games.
- There apparently is a Shared Library Error when updating to OS X 10.4.3
- There appears to be a problem with some applications due to a upgrade for Quicktime. This message .....
'The application "(Game Name) Install" could not be launched
because of a shared library error: "BaseInstaller Carbon"'
seems to be unique to Games. This is NOT the error message I get.
--------- This is what I've done ------------------------
---> I have reloaded the entire MS Office Suite.
---> and then reloaded all of the updates from MS.
---> Word (11.2.3), PowerPoint (11.2.4), Excel (11.2.5)
---> I've trashed all of the preferences
---> I've trashed all of the Caches
---> I've repaired all of the disk permissions.
---> The error code I get (I found it in the Utilities Console) is -2804.
which means, thanks to Mike Conniff:
cfragNoLibraryErr = -2804, /* The named library was not found
- this is a CarbonLibrary
---> Both Quicktime (7.1.3) and iTunes (6.0.5) updated via AutoUpdate
---> Someone has suggested that Fonts might be a problem but, I haven't
changed any Fonts since I bought the computer. I did turn-off a lot
of Fonts I don't use. None of them were related to any system Fonts.
---> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842646/en-us
- I DON'T get a Carbon Library error message, per se.
- If there is a problem with a damaged or corrupted file,
wouldn't upgrading to a new version (OS X 10.4, for example)?
---> I've removed all of the .plist files and started over.
---> I DON'T have Internet Explorer or Entorage loaded on my computer
---> The last app I installed on my computer was FileMaker 8.0 Advanced.
So, I've attempted to combine a bunch of related threads.
------- Questions
Is there a way to watch the files (libraries) that are active and what programs are using them? Also, if I don't have any other apps running, would the OpenGLLibrary necessarily be shared by something else?Hi Rich,
I followed your advice. Here is what happened. The clip I've included is from the time I turned on the computer, opened Safari, connected to AOL for email, and then opened the posting from the Mac Forum. I haven't opened any pics, so not sure why I have jpeg failures. Then I opened PowerPoint.

ITunes can't connect to shared library UNLESS it's manually connected?
this is a problem i've been monkeying with off and on for nearly a year now, but haven't ever found a solution for.
What I am specifically looking for is a way to connect to a shared library on my local network but do so without having to physically click the library to connect it. Everything that I've found has worked after the library has been connected, but I can't find a solution that actually connects to the library.
I've asked doug at doug's applescripts for help... he had no answer.
i've asked hanaan rosenthal (author of a few applescript books) for help.. he had no answer.
i've posted a few times on macscripter.net ( http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=35511 ) ... nobody had an answer.
i've dug around the apple discussion boards (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2324452) and found similar questions, but there were no satisfactory answers...
both of the following scripts work when the library is already connected but fail when it's not... how can i get it to work every time...
activate application "iTunes"
tell application "System Events"
tell process "iTunes"
get the value of static text 1 of row 17 of outline 1 of scroll area 2 of window 1
end tell
end tell
tell application "iTunes"
activate
repeat with theSource in every source
if name of theSource as text is "MY SHARED LIBRARY" then
set theLibrary to user playlist "MY SHARED PLAYLIST" of theSource
end if
end repeat
tell theLibrary
set shuffle to true
set song repeat to all
end tell
play some track of theLibrary
end tell
any help would be very much appreciated.this new format has erased my response twice now and is kinda ******* me off. grrrr.
the gist of my previous two posts (they were much better explained/phrased).
THANK you very much. you very quickly answered a question that I had spent a fair amount of time looking for an answer to.
the code worked beautifully when i ran it by itself, but when i paired it with the rest of the code i wrote for this little project my follow up code never executed... i'm not sure if this is because of something in the handler/subroutine code or because the whole thing runs as an Automator application.
the edited code isn't as elegant, but it does the job I needed it to. Thank you very much for that.
tell application "iTunes"
activate
set sound volume to 100
tell front browser window to if minimized then set minimized to false
tell application "System Events" to tell scroll area 2 of window 1 of process "iTunes"
tell (first row of outline 1 whose value of it's static text 1 is "MY SHARED LIBRARY")
set b to exists
if b then select -- connect
delay 2
end tell
end tell
tell source "MY SHARED LIBRARY" to if exists then
tell user playlist "MY SHARED PLAYLIST" to if exists then
set shuffle to true
set song repeat to all
play some track
end if
end if
end tell -
Aperture 3.4. not sharing library correctly
I have upgraded Aperture to 3.4.3 and Iphoto to 9.4.2. I used to do rough adjustments and albums with Iphoto, and then do the fine tuning with Aperture, but all of a sudden Aperture doesn't recognize latest imports and albums created in Iphoto.
It seems like the shared library it's "freezed" to some days ago, and since then iphoto and aperture work independtly on different libraries.
As far as I can tell I didn't change any setting, apaprt from upgrading as suggested.
Thank you for any hint/adviceAperture doesn't recognize latest imports and albums ...
It seems like the shared library it's "freezed" to some days ago, and since then iphoto and aperture work independtly on different libraries.
Have you checked, what libraries Aperture and iPhoto are actually using? If Aperture and iPhoto are using different libraries, it may appear, as if images have been deleted. You can see the name of your current Aperture library at the top of the "Library" tab of the "inspector" panel.
And the current iPhoto Library will be highlighted and selected, when you use the command "File > Switch to Library" from iPhoto's main menu bar.
If you have imported into different libraries recently, then itis natural, that you do not see all images in both applications.
The first thing to do I'd recommend, is to make an inventory, which events and projects appear in which libraries, and to find out, if their actually are images missing from all libraries.

Troubles syncing photos from a shared library..
Hello,
When I try to sync photo's to my ipod touch from a iPhoto library that is shared in a folder within the "Users" directory - I get an error that says "You cannot sync your ipod touch as you do not have enough privileges ..." or something very similar.
I used to sync my own iPhoto library without issue and I think (but cannot be sure) that the issue arose when I went to a shared library.
I am pretty sure it is the photos that are creating the problem as when I turn off the option to sync photos all other sync processes complete without error.
I have repaired permissions on my disk (twice)
I have restored my ipod touch once
I have checked to see that permissions are set correctly on the iTunes library.
None of this has solved the problem. One other note of interest, even though the sync is not completing properly my Macbook is seeing the structure of the library file as my sync options mirror the events and folder structure that exists within the shared library.
I hope someone can help and I welcome any direction or suggestions.
I have checked the permissions on the actual library andI got the same problem with a shared iPhoto library which was created according to
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
However, when I deleted the iPod Photo Cache as suggested, the problem still occurred to standard users (my wife and son), but not my account (admin). I checked the folder privilege after it was created after deletion and found that "everyone" shown "read only", not "read and write". Even manually change it to "read and write" cannot solve the problem.
Any idea?
N.B. The iPhoto library can be shared among different users on my iMac without problem. -
Shared library aggravation -- flags and drag/drop broken
I've got a MacBook Air. My wife has a MacBook. Both are running OS X 10.7.2 and iPhoto 9.2.1 (most recent update of iPhoto '11). And shared photo libraries are driving us nuts.
My wife wanted to grab a few photos from my iPhoto library. I figured this would be simple... enable sharing in the preferences, click the shared library in the source list, and "it just works." Nope. To be clear, I'm talking about libraries shared over a network, using the setting in iPhoto's preferences. There are several oddities with the way shared libraries work that are just awful. I really hope I'm just doing something wrong.
1. Flagging. iPhoto will let you flag photos in a shared library... but they don't appear in your flagged photos in the source list. You can't create a smart album from them. You can't create a album from them. You can't create an event from them. You can't search for them. In fact, near as I figure, you can't really do anything at all with those flagged photos in the shared library, other than toggle the flag overlay.
So, iPhoto lets you flag photos in the normal way in a shared library, but doesn't collect those flagged photos in the normal way. This is probably the worst possible scenario. My wife happily flagged photos in a large albumn of mine for an hour. Then, she couldn't understand why those photos weren't collected in the Flagged section of her library's source list. She would have to go back through all 1,700 photos to find the ones she wanted again. She. Was. ******.
2. Ratings. Same as above. iPhoto will let you rate photos in a shared library, but that rating seems to affect only the rating overlay image. Disconnect from the shared library, and your ratings disappear (so do your flags).
3. Drag/drop is broken. You can drag/drop images from the shared library to the local library. But you cannot drag/drop from the shared library to the desktop (or elsewhere in Finder). This differs from the standard iPhoto behavior, where drag/drop from iPhoto to any folder works.
These things are problems. They're problems because shared libraries look just like the local library. When the user interacts with them, they should act like the local library.
Do shared libraries work similarly for others? Are my wife and I just "lucky" here? Or are these bugs in iPhoto?Sorry, I was a bit ranty last night.
I'll ask a more specific question: do you see the same behavior when you connect to a shared library? That is, can you toggle the flag overlay and set ratings, both of which appear to do nothing and do not persist after disconnecting?
Our iPhoto libraries are large (>10k photos each) and have been upgraded across multiple versions of iPhoto. I'm wondering if there's something broken on our specific Macs, or if this is really an iPhoto bug. -
I searched for and read about a dozen previous posts on this subject but was unable to find a solution. Not only can I not see any shared library but I don't even have a "shared" menu item on either PC as described in the help file. It should show up under the Library>Music heading?
Both PC's:
...can connect to the internet
...can transfer files back and forth
...can see each others "Shared Docs" directory
...have iTunes and Bonjour listed as exceptions in Windows Firewall
...have the latest verions of iTunes and Bonjour
When I point the iTunes Music Folder location on the 'remote' PC to the iTunes Music Folder on the 'host' PC, it finds it, see's it, and then asks if I want to update (the view)? to match? I said yes. Still the same list of songs that are physically on the remote PC and nowhere does it say anything about sharing or give any indication that it is aware of the host library.
What am I not getting?"iTunes Sharing, the built-in feature, has nothing to do with pointing your iTunes Music folder setting to a shared folder on another computer. Those are two separate features/capabilities."
Yes, I get that - I was just trying everything I could think of to make it see my shared library.
"do you have Sharing and "Look for shared" turned on in the iTunes Sharing preferences?"
Yes.
"you want to have your iTunes library using the shared folder on your other computer, you need to use the Add Folder to Library command to get the tracks into the iTunes library listing"
Not quite sure what your getting at here. The help file for sharing the entire library gives 3 simple steps and then says "its name appears in the iTunes window (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries." - obviously this is not happening.
The whole reason to share and use the host library is specifically to avoid having to manually add tracks/folders from the remote PC. -
Cannot deploy a shared library from jdeveloper to oracle webcenter spaces
Hi guys,
i used oracle jdeveloper 11.1.1.6 with extendwebcenterspaces workspace. I use WebcenterSpacesSharedLibExtension project.
I have deployed with jdeveloper directly to webcenter by using a connection and deployed as shared library.
Afther that i used DesignWebcenterSpaces and deployed with ant scripts: clean stage and deploy as shared lib
I get an error on deployment:

Please help! Shared Library Error... no applications will open!
Hi. Major issues!!
My computer was unplugged for 2 weeks (renovations). When I set it up in my new office, none of my applications would open! (Microsoft, Adobe, AOL, etc...) Safari is working.
I get this error message:
The application "Photoshop" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "5<application><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error:
"8<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
The application "AOL" could not be launched because of a shared library error:
"9<AOL (Bootstrap)><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
The application "AppleWorks" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<AppleWorks><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
Here's what I've tried...
I have tried to install combo update 10.3.9. .. didn't work.
My computer was purchased in 2004... just moved to a new house... do not know where my installation dvd is... so to reboot on that is not an option.
I tried disk repair permissions... didn't work!
I opened my log console to view the crash logs... and it appears a lot has crashed... but I can not understand what any of it means!?!
Can anyone help or offer some advice?
Can anyone understand a crash log if I post it?
Please help!?! Taking an online masters course and this is a major dilemma!
Thanks,
LindsayHi Lindsay,
"Can I get one from a mac store? Does it have to be the original one I used when I purchased my mac?"
No, you can no longer purchase 10.3 Panther disks from Apple Stores, online or otherwise. You may however, be able to purchase replacement disks for your computer (if Mac OS 10.3 were the original install disks that came with your mac) by calling Apple and explaining and having the serial number ready of the computer.
If your installation of 10.3 was an upgrade you can purchase retail copies of 10.3 disks online from many resellers, such as on ebay or sites such as FastMac, but be sure to purchase a retail box set and not upgrade or machine specific disks.
Did you perform all of the steps that Kappy steered you to in Dr. Smoke's FAQ first and your only option left is the Archive and Install?
