Events in sidebar

Today I attended the iPhoto class at the Apple Store. The instructor showed us that each event could be listed in the sidebar, like recent, web, albums, etc. However, for two of us students, it wasn't an option. The instructor wasn't able to figure out how to do it, he basically told me to search google. At the current time, I have to go into all 127 of my events under library and look through them all, I would much rather be able to look at the name of each event in the sidebar. Can anyone provide assistance? Thanks in advance!

No - what I am saying is that the library you saw had been opened using Aperture - no idea where or how
If you have the current version of iPhoto and find a way to open it with the current version of Aperture then you will have events under the source pane

This only happens if you are the latest version of iPhoto and Aperture and have opened the library using Aperture
You do not have to have Aperture on your computer nor do you need to own it - you simply need to open your library with Aperture - that is all

Upcoming Events in sidebar not reflecting correct time

I create an event on my wiki/group calendar. It shows up on the sidebar under Upcoming Events. When I place my cursor over the item listed under Upcoming Events, everything is correct except the time. The time is about 2-3 hours off. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. If you click on the events in the sidebar, my time is about 5 hours off, but if you browse the calendar through the wiki server, the events are at the correct time on the weekly and daily grids. If you then click on the event in the grid, it gives you the incorrect time. I have confirmed this with Safari and Firefox as the browser.

How to remove list of events from sidebar?

I have the latest iPhoto and have just installed Aperture.
When I open iPhoto I now have all of my events listed in the sidebar and have to scroll down countless pages to access my Projects listed further down.
This is a disater for my workflow. Please, how can I remove the list of events from the sidebar?

Put your mouse over the word EVENTS and slowly slide right. See the word 'Hide' appear? Click on it.

"morse code" iCal - first day of month not showing

on the first square of the calendar (whether it's the first day of the current month or the last day of the previous month) the event titles will not show up - all that shows are dots and dashes and, in some months, solid lines. When you click on one of these events, the event details do show up on the pull-out event details sidebar. This is funky, any way to fix it?

Very often display anomalies can be rectified by refreshing your iCal plist file. This can be accomplished by quitting iCal and dragging the com.apple.iCal.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior. You can delete the iCal plist file on your Desktop.
Let us know what happens.

How to get External HD to show up in Windows 7?

So I have a 3tb WD harddrive, and also currently have bootcamp setup and running Windows 7 in addition to Mountain Lion. I have the WD harddrive partioned, one part (2.75tb) is Mac OS journaled, and 250gb is FAT32. However, when i go into windows, I cannot view the harddrive, its recognized in devices in control panel, but doesnt show up in My computer. Both partitions show up on mountain lion. How do i get the FAT32 partition to be accessible in windows??? as I am short for internal harddrive space. I am using a Macbook Pro with Retina Display. Thanks!

probably, you should elaborate your question a little..
as far as I understand your Q , you try to IMPORT from an ext. HDD.. this is NOT be done via the Event-Browser, but by the 'Import Movie' command under 'File' ..
the Event Browser offers only files, which are allready imported into iM08/into any Event..

Leopard iCal (v3.0) takes away functionality and ruins the user experience

Why oh why did Apple DESTROY the usability of iCal present in Tiger with the horrid changes they made to iCal in Leopard? Please, Apple, put it back the way it was.
In Tiger iCal, if I highlight an event, the sidebar pops up intelligently ready for me to enter times, repeats, alarms, notes, or invitees. It was even smart enough to put it to the side with the most screen space.
In Leopard iCal, Apple has taken all that intelligent functionality away and burdened users with way too many unnecessary mouse clicks before en event can be entered or edited.
Now, with "new and improved (NOT)" Leopard iCal 3.0, if I want to add an event in the monthly calendar, I double click on the day, but instead of the sidebar opening all by itself, I must now do another double click on the event itself and yet another click on the EDIT button, all before I can actually enter an event in the real world.
Oh, sure, I can type the name of my event after the first double click, but that's useless for any events with times, invitees, alarms, or notes.
Again, what were the people at Apple thinking? Do any of them actually use iCal?
I check the iCal help and there was something about clicking a button in the lower right hand corner of the iCal window to quicking edit an event, but there is no such button there, only the push pin for to-dos. CMD-I will bring up the event window, but it still requires a mouse click on enter edit mode.
If you agree with me and want iCal back the way it was, please submit iCal feedback to Apple and tell them they got it wrong in Leopard iCal 3.0.

I keep thinking, maybe I'll just get used to the changes and still, every single day the use of this core application is a source of constant frustration. I keep blindly hoping that the iCal team will listen to user feedback and examine the usability of this app.
And for the record, it's never been about the info drawer - it's about overall usability and restoring such basic items as one click editing of content on the calendar, being able to have a usable / expandable long event descriptions and being able to edit with one click vs. three.
For just one instance of how they broke this, just try creating a text entry of 200 characters or more in the "notes" field and then see what happens if you add more text. Unlike this web form which automatically keeps scrolling so you can keep typing....it stops and you have to manually scroll from short line to short line. It's just unbelievable - as if they didn't QA the basic functionality with a single user that does anything beyond the most limited use of the app.

Hi, Im not a frequent forum poster, as most of my questions can be found already answered on them!
This is a question Ive had for a long time and it amazes me that no-one else seems to ask it. I check at each OS upgrade but its never there...
Is there any way of dragging and dropping an iCal event showing in week view across to a date in the left sidebar monthly calendar?
I was able to do this years ago in MS Outlook, and utilized it all the time when I needed to push things back, now I have to open the event and select an new date in the drop-down calendar for each & every event I want to move to a new month at the end of the month.
If its definitely not possible, how to you ask apple to consider including it - it doesnt seem like a particularly difficult task.

No, but you can use cut/paste. Cut (⌘X) the event, then click on the week where you want to move the event, and Paste (⌘V).
If you have a suggestion for Apple to change that method use: Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback.

IPhoto 9.4.2 Update Adds Events column in Sidebar

Upon updating to the newest release of iPhoto '11, 9.4.2 (I'm on Mountain Lion), the sidebar of iPhoto now shows a hidable Events option (see screenshot). It is set to "Hide" there, but if I expand it, it shows a list of hundreds/thousands of my Events (not sure if it is all of them) in no particular order. If I right click on them, it gives me the option to delete, but obviously, I don't want to risk it actually deleting the photos/event.
Is this column a new feature, and if so, why is it so useless (not even in a sorted order)? Thanks in advance.

Yes it's new, but only in libraries opened by Aperture. As for "why it is so useless", perhaps that's just because you haven't found a use for it. Or, put another way, round here we might be able to explain how to do stuff but the 'why' questions are ones only Apple can answer. Have you asked them?

Two events not showing up in Events sidebar of iMovie

Hi, I'm currently using iMovie 10.0.7 on my 13" MacBook Pro and I discovered that I am missing two movies, which I imported sometime late January or early February. When I tried to re-import the clips, iMovie said that there already was an existing file with the same name. I went to the iMovie Library and CONTROL-Clicked to checked the package contents. The videos are there but I can't view them on the events sidebar of iMovie.
How do I make these videos visible on the Events sidebar? All my other movies are there except these two, did I hide them by accident? Can anyone help?

The Event directory contents looks normal. I can only think that there is something wrong in the .imovieevent files. These are SQLite databases describing the event contents but I can't interpret them.
I think the only thing you can do is to create 2 new events and re-import the media into them. You should be able to do this quite quickly for each event by selecting everything in the original media folder and dragging and dropping them into the event pane of the new event. I think you will have to re-create the projects though. The events will also be missing anything that had been imported from your iTunes or iPhoto library.
[If you want to be really adventurous change the new event names from within iMovie to the same as they were before and it is just conceivable that the projects using them may re-appear but the presence of the old versions may complicate matters - you would probably have to delete them first from the library. Unless you have invested a lot of effort in projects using these events I would not recommend trying this and if it goes wrong I won't be able to help you. Make first a backup of your library as you may well break the whole library.]

Upcoming events sidebar stuck at 'getting events'

I have several group wikis set up, with calendars, and the calendars seem to be working fine.
When I enabled the 'upcoming events' sidebar in the theme for the wikis, it shows up, but it always says 'getting events'. It never actually shows any upcoming events.
Since the calendar and it's permissions seem to be working as I would expect, I'm not sure where else to troubleshoot this problem.

Same here. been trying to fix for 3 days!
10.6.7 on intel x-server. tried migrating old data, tried scrapping everything and starting from scratch. interestingly I have fixed the issue with personal calendars but the group calendars do not work. I tried 'matching' ssl settings. tried wiping /Library/CalendarServer and /Library/Collaboration (where group cal's seem to be)
It seems group calendar support is falling through the cracks.

My events do not appear on the sidebar in iPhoto11

On my sister's computer, with iPhoto 11, the list of EVENTS has vanished from tha sidebar on the left. How can I make it appear again?

I have a problem when syncing my iphoto library to my iphone 3gs. There apprears to be more than 40 events with the same names but containing only 2-5 pics in my itunes sidebar when in fact I only have around 10 events on iphoto. How do I fix this?

This has never happened before, and I've tried deleting all photos off my phone then syncing them all instead of specific events and nothing. I have around 10 events in my iphoto library but around 3,500 pictures. I have more than enough space on my phone but I only like to sync certain events, so when I go sync them I notice there are over 40 events listed, and all of them have the same name but it seems as though each "event" has like 2 photos.. On my phone all the different events come up as well. This is super annoying, does anyone know how to fix this ?

I have the exact same problem!
I have about 25 albums and a total of 8,100 pictures. When i go to iTunes -> "My iphone" -> Pictures, and then check the box to sync choses events the list of events is messed up. The same events shows up like 3-4 times and the events only have a couple of pictures in them.
Does anyone know what can be causing this? Or what can be done to fix it?

How can I change the color of an event?

iCal 4.0.4. Is there any way to use different colors for different events? Or for that matter, have more than two groups? I used Entourage for years and it has a calendar with plenty of options for using a variety of colors. For example, I had all my medical appointments in orange; work related activities in red; friend and family events in green, etc.
All I have been able to figure out with iCal is to have a Home and a Work group, one is blue the other green.
I tried creating a third "new calendar group" but I cannot do anything with it. It is greyed out when I select an event and try to make it belong to that new group. Trying Get Info or Control Click does not give me the color option that I get with the other two groups.
Can anyone help me with this? I have been and continue to be incredibly frustrated with iCal. Thanks

File>New Calendar to create a new calendar (Groups are for grouping calendars and I should ignore them). When you've created the calendar, control-click on it in the sidebar and choose 'Get Info' There you can select a colour. You can have as many calendars as you like. When you create a new event you can select the calendar it belongs to, and hence the colour it has.

Iphone and Ical on mac do not sync anymore. All my events are in the iphone calendar! How do I backup iphone calendar, and how do I fix the syncronizing problem?

After getting iCloud the iCal on my mac does not sync with my iPhone calendar. All of my calendar notes are in my iPhone (while the mac's Ical remains empty) so I need to backup the iphone version. How?
Itunes says that "your calendars are being syncronized with iphone using icloud" - but the mac's ical does not show any of the new events I have added on my iphone.
I would like to install the new update on my iphone, but I am afraid to do it without knowing that I will be able to restore my iphone calendar. I have made calendar events for many years to come, I and will not risk losing them!
I have been looking for tips online, but the solutions usually suggest that I backup the ical on the mac and start fresh using this version. In other words overwrite iphone calendar with the ical from the mac. Which is not an option. What can I do?

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N. Name it as desired. It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
