Events not sorted alphabetically on Classic iPod

In June 2008 I bought a 160GB iPod and synced the iPod from my Macbook Pro that I bought in March. All my 2500 iPhoto photos were in titled events and sorted alphabetically on the event name.
When I first synced the iPod via iTunes, the events were also in the same alphabetical order on the event name in the iPod. I have synced the iPod many times over the summer and fall and the events on the iPod have remained in that order.
A few days ago, I did a Software Update on my Macbook Pro and one item was a new version of iTunes (8.0.2). The next time I synced my iPod, the event names were no longer in alphabetical order. I added more photos and synced again but the event names were still out of order.
I did an iTunes Restore to erase the iPod and restore the current iPod software. That didn't help.
Any idea how I can get the iPod event name order to match the alphabetical event name order in iPhoto?
Thanks

Hello GasMan333,
Congratulations on your your new MacBook Pro!  With iTunes Match, songs may be matched at a higher quality:
All the music iTunes matches plays back at 256-Kbps iTunes Plus quality—even if your original copy was of lower quality.
iCloud: iTunes Match

The higher quality songs are convenient to have on a computer, but with an iPod, there is a space limitation to consider.  You can choose to have these songs sync over at a lower bit rate to be able to fit more songs onto the iPod.  Check out the following featured discussion for steps:
How do make songs take up less space on my iPod?

  • IPhoto events not sorted right in iTunes/iPad

I have a large number of events, sorted alphabetically, and 17,000 photos.
Occasionally over the years, iTunes has listed the events in random order, or chronological order, making it difficult for me to find and check the events I want to sync to my devices. In the past, deleting the iPod photo cache inside the iPhoto library would fix the problem, but that's not working now. Also, the contents of each event are deliberately sorted differently in iPhoto, depending on the event. For some events, I want the oldest photo as the key photo for the event, and for others, I want the newest photo. This is still working in iPhoto, but now when I look at photos on the iPad or iPhone, the events are also sorted internally by date, oldest to newest. My event list is also sorted chronologically, oldest to newest, making it very difficult to find older events. I've tried changing the sort settings in iPhoto, with no effect on the sorting seen on the iDevice.
    I'm using iPhoto 9.4, iTunes 10.7, iPad 2, and 2 iPhone 4's.
Anyone know how to fix this??? Thanks.

  • Saved form data and logins are not sorted alphabetically anymore

Go to gmail, double click in the "username" field, suggestions appear in a drop down box. If you have more than 1 gmail account they are no longer sorted alphabetically, '''they are sorted by the order entered! '''(with the newest entered on the bottom)
I believe that this is related to the files formhistory.sqlite and signons.sqlite not being sorted properly.
Also the addon "Form History Control" will NOT sort these fields alphabetically. Setting browser.formfill.bucketSize to 99999999 or 9999999 in about:config does not work either!

Thanks for the reply but I have already searched and found that info, it does not work. Firefox is not Web Standard compliant in this regard.

  • CONTACTS 'Custom Label' list not sorted alphabetically ? ? ?

In both I/OS 6 & 7 the 'Custom Labels' I created to more accurately identify new Contact phone number I enter, that list is no longer sorted alphabetically (like it use to be in previous operating systems for my iPhone 5).  Does anybody know a work-around?

No way to move any buttons in iOS devices.

  • Nested Folders Added to BOTTOM Not Sorted Alphabetically

I store mail messages received either via IMAP or POP locally in their own project folder within a folder named "2009 Projects" - which is in the local mailbox "On My Mac"
After SL Update, new folders I create are at the BOTTOM of this list of folders, instead of sorted alphabetically.
I can manually move this folder anywhere in the list of folders, that's weird, but maybe it's a preference I can't find.

Great, excellent work. Now to put on my scripting hat and automate this somehow.
yeh, I was thinking about that. it's easy enough to write a script to delete all those files once you know the exact locations of all the cache files that need to be deleted but making it universal so that it doesn't require any user customization is a bit trickier.

  • Why are albums still not sorted alphabetically?

    iPhoto 11, v. 9.4.2
    Hello all,
I am running Lion Server and I share the server's iPhoto Library (source lib) on the local LAN.
When other Macs access the iPhoto Library the albums that are alphabetically sorted on the server are displayed randomly on the "client" Macs.
I prefixed all albums with a date such as 2012 12.
In the last few years Apple has introduced a whole range of new features (faces, places, events etc.) but this vexing issue hs not been not resolved for many years.
Or is it me who is missing an option ?
    Thank for your suggestions,
    Twistan

Only Apple can answer that kind of question.

  • Apple Remote Menu button not working on 80gb Classic iPod

The subject pretty much sums it up, I tested the Menu button with Frontrow and it works as expected...is my dock broken or is the iPod bad?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

Wow. So, they sell it with a device that is made for iPods.
They put a button on it that reads "Menu", just like the button on the iPod, but doesn't provide the same function, in fact, no function at all, while it would be great if it HAD this function.
Interesting. I don't think even Microsoft would dare to pull this one off.
It's tricky, but anyone who can sell me this non functional button as a "feature, not a bug" is definetely on their way to a great career start...salesman, Apple spokesperson, politics

  • Various Artists is not sorted alphabetically

Don't know why but since iTunes 11, the column browser is sorting 'Various Artists' somewhere in the K letter.
    Is this a bug?
    Thanks in advance!

I don't that's it Steve. The View Options doesn't apply to the column browser, only to the albums.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • 8.1 did not sort the sort order for events in photos app

With 7000 photos in more than 300 events You must have them in alphabetic order as before in 7.1 The pictures are synced from iMac iPhoto. How to do a search. The events are not found by names

When I drag albums into the correct order in Photos for Mac, they show up in reverse order on the iOS devices. Thus there seems to be a bug in either iOS 8.3, OS 10.10.3 or iCloud Photo Library.
The browser version of iCloud Photo Library (icloud.com) is currently updating. I am waiting to see which way my albums are sorted there.
There is no promise at all, or documented anywhere, how sorting of library items will sync across the devices. This has been haphazard when syncing iPhoto Libraries - synced faces not sorted, synced events  not sorted, etc. So it is at least a step in the right direction, in Photos that the albums are sorted at all.

  • Smart playlist not sorted correctly on ipod

I have a smart playlist in my iTunes 10.0, which contains all podcasts (with play count 0), sorted by release date.
Unfortunately, this playlist is NOT sorted correctly on my ipod (nano, 5th generation). After syncing with itunes, the ipod playlist has some apparently random order (not by release date, not even by name, artist or anything, it really seems random).
It's strange that, if I click on my ipod under "DEVICES" in itunes and click the playlist there, the correct order is shown (by release date). But again, on the ipod it is actually not sorted.

I have a smart playlist for my podcast's and I normally sort them by the date added (oldest to newest) or by release date. No mater what I do now they only show up on my iPhone in date added order newest to oldest and I am unable to re-order them. I have a number of other playlists that work fine it is just this one smart playlist that is acting up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • ITunes 9.1 not sorting artists correctly

Just upgraded iTunes on Win7 PC to 9.1 and seem to have a problem with sorting on the Artist.
I have a large (2800 CDs + various downloads) collection, with a lot of jazz - so quite a lot of music where the artist name is not a band name but a person's name. I always edit the Artist name so that it's Last name, First. The Album Artist that was added a while back was a nice help in this issue, but it seems to be causing problems with 9.1 I noticed after the upgrade that iTunes went through my library - and afterward, I suddenly had 150+ artists more than I did before. Charles, Ray had become 1) Charles, Ray 2) Ray Charles 3) Charles, Ray. (Yes, TWO entries with Charles, Ray.) Many other artists have similar issues and it seems to be taking the Album Artist and making duplicate entries for songs/records. When I removed the AA from the above, it collapsed back into 1 artist.
Additionally though, I have noticed that there is even more than that wrong. For example, I have many John Coltrane records. All 66 of them are now showing up in the sorting order as "Coltrane, John" - but in the letter "A" next to Alice Coltrane. Similarly for a couple of Stevie Wonder songs - they now show properly as "Wonder, Stevie" in the list, but they're sorted in "S" as if it's "Stevie Wonder".
This is really maddening. It looks to me like Apple messed up something here, and it's playing total havoc with the organization of my collection.

Update - it looks like after quitting and restarting iTunes, the problem of not sorting alphabetically (Wonder, Stevie in S) is gone.
However, it does appear to be sorting on Album Artist as primary key, instead of just Artist, and so far I can't find a way to change that.

  • Mail Not Sorting new Folders Added Alphbetically

Hello! I have tons of sub folders in my inbox, and I would like it to sort them all alphabetically. This was all fine, but recently the last 6 folders I added to the list were appended to the bottom of the list, and not sorted alphabetically with the rest of the sub folders. Is there anyway I can reapply the sort alphabetically feature to the folder list? I cannot seem to find it anywhere.
    Troubleshooting steps I have taken:
    1) Closed and restarted Mail App
    2) Restarted Computer
    3) Added another new folder and it is still appended to bottom of list even after all the reboots
    4) Mail is confirmed to work
Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm not sure, but I suspect the new Snow Leopard feature ...
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/refinements/enhancements-refinements.html#mail
... that lets you move folders around manually might be what's causing the weird behavior.
In Leopard, you could move a folder inside another folder but, otherwise, they would always stay in alphabetical order, I think.
Anyways, in Snow Leopard (and Leopard for that matter), there's an invisible file around ~/Library/Mail/<name of your email account>/.mboxCache.plist It seems to keep a list of the mboxes in that folder/account. In Snow Leopard, the first time you manually move an mbox out of alphabetical order, a new key called MailboxDisplayOrder seems to get created in that plist for all the existing "non-special" (i.e. not INBOX, Sent, Drafts, etc.) mboxes in that folder. Once that key exists, it seems like new folders get appended to the end of the order.
I don't know the right way to fix the problem though. I'm really just posting my observations, based on what I'm seeing on my computer. I'd be very careful about manually messing with invisible files in your mail, especially if you don't have a good backup. (No idea if you can restore an invisible file with Time Machine.) A lot of this is guesswork. But I thought maybe it'd help someone.
    Later,
    k

  • Project folder list not sorted!

    Hi,
I've just downloaded and installed SunStudio 12 on Linux x86. Then I created a new C++ project from existing code pointing SunStudio at my project's source folder which contains many subfolders. Everything went fine except that the list of project folders in the "Projects" tab is not sorted alphabetically. Is there an option to make the folder list appear sorted?
    Thanks
    Vadik

My openSUSE 10.2 system uses "LANG=en_GB.UTF-8" throughout.
Folder names are simple things containing only ASCII characters like "libxyz" and "libabc", etc
BTW, I've also reproduced this issue on several openSUSE 10.2 systems used by my colleagues.
