Ever-Changing BT Infinity Roll-Out Dates

Living in Central Reading, we were pleased to see that BT Infinity was planned to be rolled-out to our area on 31st December 2010.  That was before Christmas and then the date changed to 31st March 2011.
I emailed BT and a helpful chap explained that the bad weather meant that repairs to damaged lines had taken priority over the roll-out of new services (fair enough) and that is why Central Reading would not be upgraded until 31st March 2011.
I now see that the date has moved yet again to 30th June 2011.  I wrote another email to BT and received a rather poorly written (grammar and spelling dreadful!) reply, advising that BT Infinity was not available in my area and that my interest had been registered - Absolutely no help at all and clearly my query had not been addressed.
I appreciate that many people are eagerly anticipating BT Infinity and are still further away from getting it according to the roll-out plan today but it is not unreasonable to expect a reply to a simple query and I have no faith in the 30th June 2011 date now...  I am fully expecting it to change in May and move back a further 3 months.
I can't be bothered to try and get another reasonable explanation from BT and have resigned myself to the fact that 40MB downloads here are unlikely....
Disappointed!

  • BT Infinity Roll Out Dates - Keep Slipping - Why O...

I have been waiting for the roll out for 4 months now. When I checked the availability in May the telephone number checking program  said it would be available on June 30th. Then a few days before this date it slipped to September 30th. Now a few days ago it went back to 31st December. Why does this keep on happening ?

i have the same problem - even brought a super-duper-new win7 4core computer a month ago as my old xp 2xcore one may be too slow to cope with infinity.
it is either the demand they have for those who have infinity, or they are sending too many engineers sorting out the problems with the current system, and would not cope with the demand. on reading the other forums on here, i would say the latter is more apt, even if moving people to infinity may cure theother problems.
welcome to the world of last wednesday week.
there's now't wrong with 2 cans and a piece of string. at certain times, it is often faster.

  • Updated: Roll out date changes for London

FYI Londoners. A newly updated roll out map for London has been published today on the main BT Infinity Website.
    Happy/Sad?? Comments...

Beulah Hill has moved from March 31st and June 30th to now September 30th on the map. The phone line checker states "not going to happen for 6 months".
    Anyone else noticing anything odd?

  • Enquiry about the March 31st Infinity roll-out.

After getting suitably frustrated at my slow connection earlier today when trying to download a game, I figured I'd check to see if Infinity is rolling out in my area soon..... even just looking for a date to look forward to. I see that Maldon is included in the March 31st rollout however...... I'm unsure whether this includes Heybridge. Heybridge and Maldon technically are the same area, it's complicated, I don't even fully understand it myself. I ask simply because things never go well when you assume, I'd rather ask this question and get a straight "no" then potentially get excited at the possibilty of something that's not going to happen.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Infinity roll-out kills Standard Broadband Service

BT have rolled out Infinity to my area and since the roll-out my Standard Broadband Service has deteriorated to an extent that BT have confirmed they can longer guarantee me that service (despite the fact they are still willing to charge me for it)! Anyone else been impacted in this way?  I've been told my only option to obtain Broadband is to pay for the more expensive Infinity.

Its not an issue in all areas, but the longer the distance from the cab, the more noticeable it is. Generally, if people are getting very low speeds due to distance, it does make sense for them to upgrade to Infinity, if its available.
I believe that the Infinity pricing is fairly competitive anyway.
Infinity has not really interested me because I get between 9-11Mb on my line, and I use broadband talk quite a lot.
My local connection is not perfect, and one of the two pairs into my house are faulty anyway, and the current pair does have a HR somewhere, which can show itself if the landline is not used for a week (no DC wetting, if you know what that means)
That can result in an occasional disconnection on an incoming PSTN call, but not enough to worry about.
    To fb3
What connection speed do you get at the moment?

  • BT Infinity roll out plans under BD UK banner

    Hi,
Looking for a bit of advice or thoughts from the forum for the following question, excuse the rambling nature of the question.
BT have won the contract to deliver faster broadband in rural Gloucestershire and Herefordshire which now goes under the title of Fastershire.    The web site created states that its not possible to state when exchanges will be enabled for a variety of reasons so as consumers we simply have to wait to be told when.
However I assume as part of being awarded the contract and being able to state that 90% of properties would be completed by 2016 that a plan must exist with an approximate order in which exchanges will be enabled as part of the contracting process.
Do you think it ought to be possible or fair to request, in this case to know where my exchange. Tirley,  would be in the planned schedule for example first 10% ,   last 10% in the middle.
I have poor broadband speed due to the distance from the exchange and cannot easily work from home and if we are at the back of the queue I would look to make alternative provision moving away from BT (wireless options exsit but need a 2 year commitment and multiple subscribers in the locality)  until the rollout reaches the area.
    Appreciate any thoughts
    Simon

    Hi simon5705,
Openreach have been awarded the contact to install, rollout and manage the fibre infrastructure to Herefordshire and Gloucestershire between 2013 and the end of 2016.
The scheme has been set-up by Herefordshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council in partnership with BTplc (Openreach) to extend the rollout on-top of the "Superfast-Openreach" Commercial fibre broadband rollout.
As it is being rolled out, done and managed by Openreach as well being managed by Herefordshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council, BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP whom operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get fibre broadband (FTTC or FTTP or equivalent) as that is up-to Openreach, Herefordshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council.
Looking at the fastershire FAQs here ( http://www.fastershire.com/questions-and-answers ) it states
" Fibre broadband is being rolled out across both Herefordshire and Gloucestershire between 2013 and the end of 2016. From summer 2013 you will be able to check maps on this website to see which phase of delivery your area is in, and you will also be able to put your postcode into our postcode checker to see if you can get it yet. This will also tell you which telephone exchange area you fall within. "
Also as it's a local council scheme you will need to contact them for information.
The contact email is [email protected] though they may not have finalised the plans yet.
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers

  • BT Infinity - local Roll Out dates being rolled ba...

For most of 2011, our exchange (01684) was scheduled to be upgraded to Infinity by 31 Dec 2011, according to the checker on BT's own website. On 21 December 2011 I noted that that date had changed to 31 March 2012, even though today the BT page "See when it's available in your area" still states that the deadline is 31 Dec 2011, so clearly no one at BT is bothering to update that.
Planning requests to alter some green cabinets have been posted in the local paper, but there is no sign of any work taking place.
Posting a complaint to BT produced a reply which in effect says that the deadlines are flexible and dependent on when Openreach feel like getting round to the work, if at all. And even then, judging by numerous Forum posts, one's nearest cabinet might not be upgraded at all.
So it's all promises, promises. Is Infinity just a mirage outside metropolitan areas?

    Mike_Hunt wrote:
I had the same issue a week ago however it just decided that I can now have the Infinity instead of waiting till 31st March.
Not a great fan of all these different dates, id rather they just kept there promises and gave me infinity a month ago.
The dates aren't promises, they're estimations. The dates are set to the end of the current quarter but activation could happen at any time before that date (and of course after). Once a cabinet is almost ready to go live, usually about 10 days before you can place orders, the date on the checker will change.
As I'm sure you've read on the many posts on the forum there's many many reasons for delays, often outside of BT's control.

  • BT Infinity roll out.

I as many others are keen to get a high speed connection and live in a semi rural area (Longfield in Kent). On checking the exchange status last year a date was set for availability of December 2011. This was then revised in January to March 2012, then revised again to July, then to again to September and now it stands at March 2013! They seemed to have missed out December - must be going for six month updates now.
The exchange stills shows as coming soon. How can a date shift so much, why set targets that have no chance of being reached! I would be interested to hear you experiences of delays.

Don't hold your breath, although Infinity is still showing as going live last month for Longfield, but its now expected until March (RFS date set : 31/03/2013).
I'm in the same boat as you (Longfield exchange, kept waiting) and got a MAC code to move to BT as soon as I knew it was coming. Have since given up, as too many 30 days notice periods have come and gone. The date keeps moving (since 2011), and there is still no confirmed date yet. :-(
I've also registered to be informed when there is news, but nothing yet

  • Infinity roll out

Me & the dog watched the engineer connecting  the fibre cables at our local cabinet the other day
Everything in our village is connected physically to the cabinet & it seems there are only 4 more cabinets to connect up (probably done by now) to the exchange & they should be able to go live within a week or two (depending upon BT)...... Great news !!
Looking on the BT check site it still shows as "coming" but no date of timescale or even taking of orders yet
Anybody know how long these things take ?
Or is it too much to expect the engineers on the ground to be able to work "In sync" with corparate towers in BT land ?
    D

    Hi paulfurlong79,
Your local exchange will first need to be upgraded and ready for FTTC fibre broadband. Once your exchange has been activated then the first lot of new FTTC (Dslam) cabinets will be activated and ready for use.
However before any of that happens both the new fibre equipment at the exchange and the FTTC cabinets need to be properly installed, tested and then they are ready for FTTC fibre broadband in those areas within the exchange area.
It usually takes about 3 to 6 months after the exchange has been upgraded before the new FTTC cabinets become ready for use.
There isn't an exact time scale as the scale can vary depending on any issues on the route.
Best thing is to keep an eye out over the next year.
    Cheers

  • WHY DID I EVER CHANGE TO INFINITY

SINCE WE SWAPPED OUR BT HOMEHUB FOR THE ALL SINGING AND DANCING INFINITY IT HAS BEEN A DISASTER.
UNABLE TO CONNECT AND RANDOM DISCONNECTION, ARE A CONSTANT FRUSTRATION. THE CALL CENTRE ARE EXTREMELY POLITE. BUT SADLY NOT EQUIPPPED TO SOLVE THE ISSUE.
I NEED TO KNOW HOW EASY IS IT TO GO BACK TO THE HOMEHUB

    ironman123 wrote:
Ahh, that would have been replaced by Kelly Communications as they are contracted to OR/BT to change the modem due to overheating problems with the old modems.

Your statement is not correct well not 100% correct, There is 2 different types of hardware that is installed into the local cabinets the key here is 2 different types so in the home if say TYPE BLUE is in the cabinet then TYPE BLUE VDSL modem gets installed if TYPE RED is installed in Cabinet then TYPE RED VDSL modem gets installed ...
The overheating issue was mainly caused before as the vdsl modem was not wall mounted and the heat was trapped internally causing the problem thus why all installs should be wall mounted from now on allowing max ventillation around the VDSL Modems.

  • KINGSWELLS BT INFINITY ROLL OUT SHAMBLES

    Hello,
At the start of June you made progress in setting up the FTTC Cabinets arround Kingswells. mid way through june you dug a nice hole beside cabinet 12 in kingswells the hole sat there for 2 weeks while 2 other cabinets were installed. arround the end of june the hole was filled in again and KN Network services have never been seen since.

This is a BT Retail residential customer to customer forum. BT Retail has nothing to do with the installation of cabinets, it is Openreach who do that.
If you want to complain about the work being done or rather not being done by Openreach you need to contact them.

  • PA data migration Strategy for global roll-out

    Hi Guys,
What is the best practise to load PA data into SAP HCM for a global roll-out? We plan to go-live with 50 odd countries. For country specific infotypes like address, It does not make sense to create country-specific LSMW's for each of the country. We may end up having 100s of LSMWs which does not seem right to me. nearly 20 of these countries have less than 100 employees each. Any ideas what the best practises around this are?
    regards
    Sam

Create batch input sessions with LSMW as usual.
Wite a report that reads the batch input session (tables APQI, APQD), gets the country specific dynpro for every PERNR (tables T582A, T588M, feature Pxxxx, ...) and change the dynpro in the APQD. Use debugger to find offset and length of field values in the record.
Than you can process the batch input.
I did it that way many times.
Alternativly you could update the PA tables directly - but difficult to detect errors.

  • Cost-Roll take follow-up material upon discontinuation effective-out date ?

    Dear Expert,
If we use discontinuation/follow-up material, during Cost-Roll (CK11N), SAP will take default cost from discontinued material even if follow-up material is effective.
<b>How to make SAP take cost of follow-up material after/on effective-out date ?</b>
    <b>Example :</b>
    Parent "A" contains component "B" qty 3, to be follow-up with component "C" upon discontinuation of "B" on effective-out dated 1st Nov'07, and like-wise to take std cost of "B' before 1st Nov'07 cost-roll.
Thus, when I roll cost in December, I hope SAP would calculate for std cost of A to include std cost of "C" (for cost-roll after 1st Nov'07).
    <b>Setting :</b>
    <u>Material Master of "B" MRP4 view :</u>
    - Discontinuation Indicator = 1
    - Effective-out date = 1st Nov'07
    - Follow-up Material = "C"
    <u>BOM of Parent "A" :</u>
    - Component "B" indicate discontinuation group "A1"
    - Add component "C" and indicate follow-up group "A1".
    <b>Thanks for your guidance !</b>

    Hello,
We are having the same issue: is a BOM for costing the only way to handle this ? Controlling dept. here fear they wouldn't be maintained as accurately as the production ones (and they are right). We were also thinking to set the phased out materials (B in your example) as cost irrelevant when you add to new material in the BOM...and start costing the father (A in your example) directly with the new component. I would appreciate a lot to hear other examples of dealing with this issue if anybody has.
    Thanks a lot,
    Olivier
