Ever seen a CRASH on OSX like this?

This is a video I put on 'youtube' of my intel imac crashing. Just wondering if anybody has seen anything like this happen before? (the crash is at the start of the clip and then i rebbot to see if it works ok)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHoZ5ZaHjxk
It happened to mine while I was on the dashboard. Its the first time anything like this has happened to my imac. Just wondering if this is something I should be worried about or if its something that happens from time to time? or better still does anyone know why this might have happened?

You could download the latest update for OSX from the support section of this site and install that. It should update the drivers.
To be honest I don't think its a software problem. Your software would appear to be working fine underneath that problem which looks like a problem with your graphics card.
I would keep an eye on it. If you have only just got the mac get onto apple immediately.

  • New to Apple TV - do they all crash and freeze like this?

I have had mine for about 10 days. I have had it freeze (and do the diagnostics/restart) about 15 times.
I am starting to get the hang of it. It seems to hate a bunch of my videos (encoded home movies mostly - used Handbrake and VisualHub's Apple TV setting). I can get it to crash 'on demand' on a few videos.
What gives with the crashing? Can't it just choke on a video and refuse to play? Many times the crashing does not seem to be specific to a video though.
I have tried the diagnostics - it reported that it was fine. I tried the system restore .. still having trouble. I am thinking if I restore it again I should stick to the first firmware (ie: not update). Might that help?
Things are working better with the sync'ing now that I know that iTunes must be open - and I disabled the Windows 7 firewall rather than just poking the hole for the port Apple was requesting.
Anyway - I am really disappointed. The iPhone remote is great, I love having my iTunes library in sync - but lack of 1080p and these crashes are driving my family crazy. I am probably gonna return it, but hoping for some ideas...

do they all crash and freeze like this?
    No, they don't.
Take a look at this document to see what formats are supported and how to properly convert them.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1532
This next document is very specific as to the formats that will play.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP19
iTunes has the ability to convert movies to the proper format. So does Quicktime Pro. For the record, though, I have converted a number of videos using the Mac version of Handbrake and have had no issues what-so-ever playing those files.

  • This new version is slover and It always crashes ,I dont like this version ,will it be update faster one?

I give all details in my question,This version is not better than old version

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6

I have multiple iPhoto albums, so this move is pushing thousands of pictures to each library. Why doesn't this come with a "No, Thanks!" option since I've ALREADY ensured the MobileMe albums were captured? I've never seen Apple force an action like this!
Worse - According to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4328, "photos you published to MobileMe from your library may be moved from their original events into a new event called "From MobileMe"." - so the forced move has probably scrambled my events in every library. The 'fix'? Search for matching photos and if not found, copy and paste into the desired event. It will take DAYS for me to recover from this undesired and ill-considered forced action.

Load your backup from just before this and when you launch iPhoto click on learn more. Go back to iPhoto and in the iPhoto preferences remove all references to MM and do likewise in the system preferences

  • Anyone know how to create something like this?

I've been asked to make something like
    this
except for newsletters instead of business cards. If anyone
has seen any tutorials covering anything like this I would love to
hear about them, or if you have some ideas of how to start.
I tried using image swap for the background and writing over
it using layers but realized I wouldn't know which background they
chose and the text on the layer won't move to accomidate each
template. Is this something that needs to be done in Flash? Any
    advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Chris

Any idea what's wrong with my spotlight?

I am also seeing this behavior.
Spotlight is attempting (and failing) to index a 4 TB external volume (connected via Firewire).  I see the mds process grow to 1.5-2.5 GB of memory and I have an MDS crash every 30 minutes.
I've uploaded one of the crash reports here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8091631/mds_2011-05-01-103642_localhost.crash.txt - not pasting it to make it more readable.
However, I think the important line is this:
    Application Specific Information:
    /SourceCache/Spotlight/Spotlight-507.15/index/ContentIndex/BurstTrie.h:52: failed assertion 'ptrM(newptr).next == ptr.next' /Volumes/qx2/.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/B538EF23-CCA3-4DEF-88E2-127276C9FD 69 (hfs, t: 0x11, st: 0x1, f: 0x4a09018)
This points to a broken assumption in the mds code, not a configuration issue.  Developers (should) use asserts to codify their assumptions into the program and a blown assert is usually a programming mistake, not a configuration issue by the user.
I believe that this appeared on my system around the 10.6.7 upgrade and/or when I switched my Mac Pro to use the 32-bit kernel instead of the 64-bit kernel.

  • Has somebody ever seen like this

Lately in Design Editor the Navigator behaves unusually. One day when I changed some display properties on the Navigator to show the needed properties, in some other area (Relational Table Definitions) the shown table names became <Null>. When I turned on the table name again to show the names the <Null> sign remained as an unknown property reference. After some trials my navigator shows at the Relational Table Definitions like this:
    <Null>-<Null>-<Null>-<Null>-MY_TABLE_NAME.
I could see similar at the triggers and domain display property. When the domain display property becomes <Null> I can not generate database elements about of invalid referencing.
There is an other behavior since that: Always when I exit the Design Editor a DrWattson illegal operation exception turn up. Then I made a binary export dump to move to an other repository to continue the work, this error comes too. So I have had two damaged repositories.
Is it a repository bug? What can I do to remove this mistake from the repository and how can I prevent this?
I hope somebody knows something about it an has some good idea.

    Viktor

  • Anyone Ever Seen This Before?

    Hello,
Has anyone ever seen this before: http://digitalmarketing1.com/MacErrorPicture.jpg
Running an IMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz, Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac v 11.3.6.
Opened Entourage and selected some of the tons of spam > hit Delete and there you have it! Wasn't really sure how to answer this one! It was like a Bill Gates trick question for Mac users. I had to have someone else come in the office to make sure I wasn't having a stroke or something.
I did eventually select the highlighted button after a coin flip, but to no avail. Nothing happened. Selected the other button then thinking that MUST be the right answer! Nothing...
Finally, an end task was the right answer. Seems to have gone away for now, but Entourage still crashes quite often. Rebuilt email, repaired permissions, etc. Nothing appears to be wrong, but clearly something was amiss.
    Any ideas?

An unexpected exception has been detected in native
    code outside the VM.
    Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
    occurred at PC=0x92150b9
    Function name=(N/A)
I get this error when I call the same native function
twice.Yes, many people have seen it many times when doing JNI.
    The usual reasons;
-In the vast majority of cases (think 99.9%) there is a bug in the C/C++ code that does JNI. As usual a pointer is the problem.
-Very, very rarely there might be a problem with something else. Like the jvm or a third party library.

  • Has anyone ever seen this error

We just launched a vaccation tracking app with a coldfusion
front end and an access 97 backend (dont ask). The app was tested
for over a month and passed all tests. However we never tested for
volume, or amount of users hitting the app. On the backend, we have
an access table linked to a text file. Again, this tested out
perfectly over the past month. This morning after release to the
entire company of about 2,000 people, users began reporting this
    error:
The text file specification 'EmployeeList Link
Specification6' does not exist. You cannot import, export, or link
    using the specification.
Some users logged in to the app successfully and some
recieved this error. For those that recieved the error, we had them
back out and re-login and then the app worked just fine.
Has anyone ever seen this or have a guess as to what is going
    on?

    Hi,
The right way would be to use a "real" database server.
But you can test if db-caching can improve the issue.
With each <cfquery> you can set a cachedwithin
parameter. Using that should allow you to query the Access db once,
and then have CF keep the query results in memory (for the DB as
    well as the text-file).
You could query the complete database with no filtering this
way, and then filter the data using QueryofQuery to output only
    records for specific users/groups/regions.
You also need to make sure the settings in CF admin are
    configured right for this.
The more often the database content is updated, the slower
    this solution will get though.
    cheers,
    fober
ps. for the cachedwithin parameter in the query set a
timeframe of forever, so the recordset never gets updated, and then
actually execute a new query to update the recordset at the end of
your "save a vacation" or "updated a vacation" functions. This way
the app would only read the db when a real change to the records
    occurred.
But like I said with 2000 users, even that may not be enough
    to get the app performing.

  • Ever seen this display problem? (pictures inside)

After playing Team Fortress 2 in Windows XP off Boot Camp for an hour or two, I restart my computer back into OSX to find my screen looking like this:
    http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/6320/0830091006.jpg
When it should look like this:
    http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/5779/0830091007.jpg
It is fixed by resetting the PRAM on restart (holding, alt + apple key + P + R before apple icon appears on start up.) It goes away every time... but I'd like for it to never happen because I feel like resetting my PRAM once every few days is not good for my Macbook Pro.
I looked through the display anomalies thread, but could not find any pictures of people's display problems looking like mine. Although, I think it may have to do with what was plaguing other people... which is overheating?

I think I found something similar:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7210908#7210908
The anomaly there looks very similar, and the cure seems to be to reset the PRAM. Something you have already figured out to do.
If you had the later graphics chip, you would be covered by this program:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
However, there is no such program for your graphics chip as far as I know.
There were some speculations that the problem was worse in some versions of Leopard than in others, but I think nothing was ever definitive. Heat could be a factor if you had just finished a processor intensive activity like a game. Have you tried letting the Mac cool down before restarting in Mac OS X?
A true graphics chip problem should affect both Windows and Mac OS X, and this one seems to just affect Mac OS X for some reason. So my guess is that the chip itself is OK.
Don't know if this is much help, but you're not alone.
    Good luck!

Well Tyler....I've seen something like your problem before, but i'm afraid i can't be of much help. I saw the problem because it happened to me before, and my iPod needed to be sent into Apple for repair, i believe they need to reconnect the hard drive on it....well hopefully someone here can help you out, because mine was a matter of being sent in.

I have Windows 7 and for some reason I cannot install Adobe Type Manager onto my Computer. I need ATM to install the DIN font but am having no luck what so ever. I can see the DIN font in my Dropbox but it is showing up like this:-  ._DIN-bold, no file file extension. what am I doing wrong? is it Mac?

    (1)    Adobe Type Manager (ATM) is not compatible with any version of Windows beyond Windows XP (32-bit, only). Attempting to install ATM on any newer version of Windows may actually disable Window's capability of rendering Type 1 and OpenType CFF fonts, requiring a reinstallation of Windows.
    (2)    There is no need to use ATM to install any fonts under Windows.
    (3)    The file name ._DIN-bold is indicative of a MacOS font. These fonts cannot be installed on Windows systems.

    Hi pholewinski!
I have a couple of articles for you here that I believe will help you with this issue. The first is an article on advanced troubleshooting, and it can be found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
If following that article's steps doesn't take care of the issue, you can try the things listed in this article, which is about permissions issues in iTunes:
iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • MacBook won't boot...not like I've ever seen before.

I have a friend who has a 15" MacBook Pro model from mid-2009. He called today because when he turns on his MacBook it goes right to a blue screen and won't boot. He lives 7 hours away but it just so happens that I'm going there next week and I will stop to check it out, but figured I might ask to see if anyone here knows. So here's the situation.
The MacBook is running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and it was in sleep mode. When he opened the lid the computer wasn't responding so he did a manual powerdown and when he turns the computer on, it makes the chime but goes directly to a blue screen and after a few seconds the folder with a question mark starts to blink.
I know that the question mark means that the system can't be found meaning either there's a corrupt system file or the hard drive quit, but I've never heard of this appearing on a blue screen, usually it's grey.
His system DVDs are back in his hometown (he is in university) so I couldn't get him to do either a Hardware test or run Disk Utility, but I have a 13" MacBook Pro so I will bring my system DVDs out with me to do diagnosis.
Anyone ever experienced this? I can't find anything like this anywhere. I had him reset the PRAM, the SMC, and also tried to get the thing to boot into Safe Mode and Verbose, but no luck. Holding down the option key during startup brings the blue screen again, but with a cursor.

I meant to post what I found when I got my hands on it, but totally forgot. Here's what happened:
When I got his laptop I booted it into FireWire Target Disk Mode and connected it to my Mac. I opened Disk Utility and and error came up saying the connected hard disk needed to be initialized. I couldn't access the filesystem. I tried running diagnostics via Disk Utility and with fsck in the Terminal, with no luck. I did some searching on Google and found an article explaining how the filesystem can basically become broken when a key file is either overwritten or altered.
The article suggested using DiskWarrior, which I got and ran the program on the corrupted hard drive. It warned me that by doing the diagnostics some files may disappear, as it basically undo's whatever caused the filesystem to die. It only took a minute and just like magic the disk showed up on my desktop.
