Ever since I installed Mavericks, my MacBook Pro randomly restarts.
Hi all... this is my first time here, so please be gentle ;-)
Ever since I installed Mavericks, my MacBook Pro just randomly restarts. It's been happening a lot, and I have zero idea of how to decipher the panic report. Can anyone lend an assist on this? Much thanks, in advance. Here's the report...

Remove "Air Display" and see whether there's an improvement.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and (unless otherwise specified in this comment) I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

Since I upgraded to Maverick, my Macbook Pro shuts down quite often without warning. No idea why.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo). -

Commercial software utility for transferring songs from i-device to Mac - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - just media purchased from iTunes Store
You'll need to get it all onto one iTunes collection on your Mac Pro, then sync the devices to that. iTunes only lets you transfer purchases from a device, otherwise you have to use third party software.
I guess you could also look into getting iTunes Match. -
After installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro and my MacMini can't shut down, only a grey screen and finish. Must be killed by the power button. Why?
Ausserdem startet die Macs wesentlich langsamer als mit OS X 10.6.8.same here... sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't!!

Ever since I installed MAVERICK, nothing now works, Flash Player won't run, printer works but scanner will not and the computer runs so slow. Any help anywhere?
wqn02h, first thing I would do is use Disk utility to repair permissions. Once this is done. Make sure you have the latest versions of the software you use. Also, check the manufacter of your printer/scanner for updated software. If they don't have updated software there are 3rd party alternatives that will work.

Ever since I installed Mavericks I've been unable to edit Numbers spreadsheets. Any help.
There is not enough information in your question to guess what the problem might be.

Macbook Pro randomly restarting since installing Mavericks
Hi guys,
I've got a mid-2010 Macbook Pro. Since I installed Mavericks, about 6 months ago, it's started restarting at random (it just goes black and then goes through the reboot cycle. Sometimes it can happen a few times in the same hour - sometimes once a week. It doesn't seem related to what programs I have open or how hot it is running. It often happens a few minutes after the machine has awoken from sleep, but this isn't always the case.
I was convinced that this was due to the faulty nVidia chip which was included in some mid-2010 MBPs so I took it to the Apple genius bar and showed them this KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088 (having first done a clean install of OSX).
They ran "VST (Video System Test) 1.0.3v5 for Macbook Pro (15-inch, mid-2010)" and it passed. They then took the laptop into the back room and "ran some more hardware tests", all of which passed too.
I bought the machine back to my house and started reinstalling software. About 10 minutes ago it restarted itself again (with the same GPU panic message and GPUPanic.cpp:127 line). The only difference between this restart and those before I reinstalled Mavericks is that the previous restarts would be proceeded by a "your computer needs to restart because of a problem" whereas just now no message was displayed until the computer fully rebooted, and then a "your computer was rebooted because of an issue" message was displayed.
I've only installed a few pieces of software, and nothing that I thought would mess with the graphics drivers.
Could anyone please take a look at my logs and see if anything looks amiss? The genius has stressed that it cannot be hardware related so hopefully somebody will spot something.
The only other thing perhaps worth mentioning is that I have 3rd party RAM and a 3rd party SSD harddrive in there. Could either of these be responsible?
Thanks,
Joe

Thunderbolt Bus:I just wanted to share my experiences with Apple recently.
To give some background: my mid-2010 Macbook Pro started restarting randomly after I upgraded to Mavericks and the logs indicated that it was the GPU issue. I am currently residing in Dublin so my nearest Apple store is over 100 miles away in Belfast (a 2-3 hour drive or train journey).
I first took the machine to the Apple store on the 8th March, having first made an appointment at the Genius Bar. I had entered details of the issue into the concierge system and the Genius seemed to know what he was dealing with. He ran the GPU test - which it promptly passed - but, after this point, I didn't see the Genius again as he disappeared into a back room, never to return.
About 20 minutes later (as I was beginning to get annoyed) someone else came and asked if I was being helped. I explained the situation to him and he hurriedly offered to "take it in the back to run further tests". I agreed and left the machine with him - but in all the kerfuffle I left my charger behind.
I went back and collected my laptop as the store was closing. I briefly discussed the test results with a different Genius, who suggested that it must be a software issue. He said that - as I had restored the OS to factory settings before the visit - it was most probably fixed. Given that it had not restarted since I restored the machine (the night before), I agreed and left.
Unfortunately, I didn't realise that I'd forgotten my charger until I got home. I called the store the next day but was told that it's "not Apple policy" to post things out and that if I wanted the charger I'd have to collect it from the store myself. I was then told that it would probably be better for me to "just buy a new one" given the distance involved!
Anyway, the next day I was reinstalling some software and the machine restarted again. I made a post on here and was told that the logs still suggested a faulty GPU, and that the Genius should have spotted it.
So I made another trip to Belfast!
First, I tried to collect my charger. After some crossed wire between staff members, it turned out that someone had labelled my charger and left it on the side for me to collect, but then someone else had then thrown it away. To Apple's credit, however, they gave me a new one off the shelf without hesitation.
Next, the Genius ran the same test again and this time it failed. I asked the Genius why it would be the case that the EXACT same test would pass one day and fail the next but he didn't have any ideas. It is *my* theory that the test not only checks the GPU itself, but also looks in the log folder for logs that indicate a faulty GPU and that, by restoring the OS before I took it in, I effectively "cleared" this folder and made it impossible to detect.
Anyway, he next mentioned that it was out of warranty and that I would need to pay for a repair. However, I had a printout from the trading standards site which outlined the Sale of Goods act and how (under UK law) we are protected for 6 years from purchase if a product is defective. He spoke to a couple of managers and agreed to replace the motherboard without charge.
Next, he wanted proof that I'd purchased the machine directly from the Apple website, as apparently their records only go back 18 months (!). Unfortunately, I lost some emails a couple of years back and no longer had the receipt but - after another discussion with managers - he agreed to proceed anyway.
He then said that I would have to come and collect the machine in a few days. The trading standards guidelines say that the RETAILER is responsible for arranging collection and delivery of the faulty product so I asked whether they could ship it to Dublin. However, he argued that to do this I would have to rearrange everything through AppleCare and have them collect/deliver the machine. So, having gotten this far (and not wanting them to change their minds), I just agreed.
Anyway, I received an email saying that it was ready a few days later so I went back to Belfast again and collected it. So far (touch wood) it's been working perfectly and without a single restart.
So, the things to remember:
1) The test may not detect the issue the first time but that doesn't mean it's not there
2) Restoring OSX to factory settings MAY impede the ability for the test to detect the issue
3) It doesn't matter if you're out of warranty if you're covered by Consumer Law (check out the law in your country)
4) Don't leave your charger in the Apple store!
NB: I'm not a lawyer, of course, and none of this constitutes legal advice; I'm just hoping it will help some people as there seem to be a LOT of folks having this issue. -
MacBook Pro randomly restarting since upgrading to Mavericks. Help!
Ever since I downloaded Mavericks, my 2010 MacBook Pro is randomly restarting due to a GPU panic. I tried all the trouble shooting suggested by apple support via telephone (updating software, reinstalling mavericks, repairing disks). It is still restarting 4-5 times a day at least. I read it could be an issue with my model of MacBook, but it has been more than 3 years since I purchased it (almost 4 years). It never restarted when I was running 10.6. Why would it all of a sudden start doing this? Anyone have any luck with them replacing the hardware for free even though it was past the 3 years? Please help! I can't downgrade my operating system, as I need to run Lightroom 5 and it is not compatible with 10.6. Thank you!
tccsp11,
yes, sinve you’re getting GPU panics, your MacBook Pro is probably suffering from the defect described here. It’s a hardware defect, so the problem was always latent; one possible reason for it starting under Mavericks is that perhaps Mavericks switches to the NVIDIA GPU to perform some tasks (for better performance) that Snow Leopard didn’t switch for. One person reported that he was able to get the servicing done gratis, but he lives in Singapore, so I don’t know if e.g. Singapore consumer protection law played any part in that. If you need to run Lightroom 5, then it sounds as though you’re going to need to confirm whether your NVIDIA GPU has the defect or not, so you might as well make an appointment at your closest Apple store to have them run their Video System Test on your MacBook Pro. -
Since Update to Mavericks my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) restarts randomly
Hey,
I'm using a 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) with the original 500gb HDD and a 128gb SSD and 16gb RAM which worked out very well ever since. But since updating to Mavericks at least once a day the system crashes out of nowhere a screen shows up that says "your computer was restarted because of a problem" and the system runs up again and works perfectly fine – until it crashes again.
I've checked on the RAM and the SSD with the delievered software but it says that everything is fine.
If someone could help me, I would be very grateful.
Greetings from Germany,
Jon

The problem "panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff80022c3dc8): "Possible memory corruption: " started happening after the mavericks upgrade. I tried a clean install but it does not help. -
Error message when trying to install Mavericks onto macbook pro.
Hi Been trying to install Mavericks onto my macbook pro (10.6.8) but the install fails after 3-5 minutes and I get this error message: *** WARNING: -[NSImage compositeToPoint:fromRect:operation:] is deprecated in MacOSX 10.8 and later. Please use -[NSImage drawAtPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] instead.
I have tried to repair the drive through the utility function but I am told it cannot be repaired. I tried the recovery function as well but whilst I am able to select the source (external hard drive with recent time machine backup) the next screen prompts me to select the disk to restore but all it does is search for a drive and there is none there to select.
Really not sure what else to do. Please help!Well some progress has been made so thought i would post what I did, in case someone experiences the same issue I did and maybe this will be of use to someone else...
Ended up force-shutting my macbook down then switching back on, as soon as the chime could be heard i pressed command R and kept both keys pressed until Recovery mode kicked in.
Internet Recovery came on which took approx 20 minutes (more about this here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718 )
Then 4 options appeared
1) recover with time machine back up
2) set up and install Mac OSX (with the Lion icon and reference to Lion for some reason, I had Snow Leopard to begin with)
3) get help online
4) repair or erase disk using disk utility
I decided to attempt to repair the drive but use the verification tool first which said the drive was fine??????!!!
Then clicked on repair disk, this took only a few minutes then it stopped after a couple lines.
While it was "repairing" the button changed to "stop repair" then changed back to "repair" so I took that to mean it had done what had to be done.
Then closed the utility screen whch prompted me to restart macbook after selected a drive to boot up from (only one option came up for me)
Did that and I was back into familiar territory and on my mac as I knew it ie snow leopard.
I did restart macbook just to make sure and it just booted up as normal, to snow leopard with the maverick install icon still showing in the dock.
Panic over. Not sure if / when I will give installing Maverick another try though.... -
Installed Maverick, now Macbook Pro will not boot in normal or safe mode. UPSET!
Hello to anyone who can be of help to me. I have been without my 2008 Macbook Pro for months due to installing Maverick. After installing it, within a day or two, it crashed and now will not reboot in normal mode or sade mode. I've never had any problems from this computer until now.
I don't know much about Macs and I can't fix this. I also live over an hour away from any Apple store. I feel this is Apple's fault and I am pretty upset that this has happened to my laptop.
I understand this to be a Kernal Panic or something like that, which happens after installing a program, like Maverick. I have tried erasing the PRAM and still won't reboot in either mode. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get! Thanks! I love Apple. I am not bashing them, I just don't appreciate their software messing up my lappy.Have you tired a SMC reset?

Consider reinstalling the original OSX.
You may eventually 'bite the bullet' and make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.

My Big failure to install maverick in Macbook Pro with retina
Please I NEED HELP i bought macbook pro with retina display i tried to install mavericks but i failed at fortunately i formatted the ssd HELP ME TO INSTALL MAVERICKS.
When i was trying to clean installation it failed to complete.
At what step did it fail to complete?
How are you installing Mavericks, a usb disk, a dvd or recovery mode. -
Calendars not working right ever since I installed Mavericks??
When I am in iCloud and looking at the Calendar icon, it says that I have 5 notifications (#5 is in a red circle) but when I go to view them, I have none. The # then disappears, but after a few minutes, it comes right back. What should I do to resolve this issue?
ShawnNo, so I called Apple support and they sent it to programming. They think it might be a server error, but was unable to recreate the problem. The higher level support personnel said to keep an eye on it for a couple of days. Ever since a few days ago, the notifications are gone so I will keep an eye on it. Thanks!

I wanted to drop Apple an email regarding this issue, but they seem careless about customers living in countries with Apple resellers only and don't think they might need to get expert help via email. Better buy a PC next time. I hope I will at least find some help here. I also think my problem might apply to this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Here is the letter:
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have a Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro, on which I have been running Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion with no problems. But recently I have been working with my computer when suddenly screen turned black and the computer restarted. (Actually, when it restarted for first time it shut down before the startup sound, but booted up without problems after I turned it on via the power button.) Since it was the first time I didn't pay attention.
Then after a few days it happened again, but this time the computer didn't seem like booting up again. When I finally got to the grey screen I tried safe booting with verbose mode, which sadly ended with the same restart after “DSMOS has arrived” line. From this I assume the problem won't lie in non-stock kernel extensions. I also tried resetting NVRAM with no success.
I had a flash drive with stock Mountain Lion installer, succesfuly booted it up and let it run for a while, after about 15 minutes it shut down with the same black screen. From this I assume that the problem dosen't lie in my current Mountain Lion installation.
From report logs I can tell two kernel extensions common to all the restarts: com.apple.NVDAResman, com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal; and four appearing only in some cases: com.apple.driver.AGPM, com.apple.GeForce, com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport, com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily.
This made me suspicious about the dedicated Nvidia graphic card. I installed an utility called gfxCardStatus, which not only shows which card is currently in use, but also allows for force using of specific card. I also installed NovaBench to have some GPU-heavy benchmark available. When I run NovaBench, the computer switched from integrated to dedicated card with no problems, and the benchmark succesfuly finished. But when I tried forcing switch to any of the cards the computer restarted with the black screen. This made me suspicious about the logic board instead of specific graphics card.
The problems also occurs when waking up form sleep. Sometimes it would wake up normally, but sometimes it would immidiately restart to a grey screen saying “Your computer restarted because of a problem. Wait a few seconds or press a key to continue starting up.”
To summarize the problem, the computer restarts randomly and fails to wake up from sleep sometimes. I got it as a gift from my father, who lives in Slovakia and have bought it from local reseller. The problem is that I live in Czech Republic and I have some doubts regarding the quality of support at resellers. (Namely I am afraid they will say “See, it runs. There's no problem.”) Also I need to constantly work on a project for school competition, which is mostly done in Photoshop, and longer time without my computer would severely threaten the deadline. I would be very grateful to first have an opinion from Apple empolyee, who really has an in-depth knowledge of MacBooks and Mac OS X.
Update: After writing this I tried resetting SMC, again with no success.
Thanks in advance.
Yours faithfully
Samuel NovákI had already given my MacBook to dad, but in Slovakia they have horrible laws towards customers. The reseller has taken 2 weeks just to make a statement, which is ridiculous since I had sent the MacBook along with a detailed description of the problem and printed Apple article. It seems they have found the machine to be faulty and took another 30 days to fix it.
I am more than happy to hear that Apple in this case promises to replace the logic board free of charge. It is a powerful machine and I don't want to replace it yet, but if I were about to pay for a new logic board I would consider buying a new laptop.
Next time I would want to buy anything from Apple I would to one of official Apple stores in Austria, although it seem that not all the employees can diagnose certain issues the quality of service must be incomparable. These almost two months without MacBook, or Photoshop, have ruined my chances to participate in a countrywide student's projects competition, I must wait for the next year and that would be the last chance since I would be leaving high school.
