Ever since I updated iTunes, it freezes!

I updated my iTunes at the start of the year because Apple told me to. Thinking it might be a good idea, I did. However, after I updated and went through the normal processes of restarting my computer, I tried to open iTunes and found that it froze upon opening. So, I decided to unistall and then re-install..... same problem. I did this a few times and had the same problem EVERY TIME!
I have now updated again to iTunes 10, gone through the correct processes for installation to be successful and am still suffering from the same problem, a whole 6 months or so later, only now QuickTime Player doesn't want to work either.
I have also tried installing earlier versions of iTunes, but continue to have the same problem.
any solutions that DO NOT include any method I have already tried would be much appreciated as my end of year 12 exams are coming up and I have important pod casts that I need to access for revision.

ps - I know my computer is Windows Vista, but I don't know how to tell whether it's a 32 bit or a 64 bit - I have tried installing iTunes for both types.

I had the same issue, I did a repair permisions and a restore of last settings and this seemed to stop this. Hope this works for you.

Now I get an error message on the ipod that reads, "The currently attached accessory is not supported by this ipod." I have tried connecting a buddy's ipod to my car stereo, and his still works fine with it. I've done the 5 R's, tried going back to an older version of itunes as Alpine suggested. My next step will be going to the Apple store with an appointment, seeing what they say.

  • Ever since the "update" itunes store doesn't load.

    I haven't been able to access the itunes store on my iphone 4s since the update.  It is just a blank screen with the icons listed along the bottom.  I have synced the phone with my itunes acct. on my computer.  I have signed out and signed back in.  I have run a diagnostic on my phone through the apple.com (everything checked out).  I have tried to get support from apple.com but keep going around in circles.  Before I call or visit a store I thought I'd check to see if anyone else has had this problem and if he/she was able to correct it.  Any advice or suggetions would be greatly apprectiated.

    There are a couple of things you can try.  The first would be to reset all settings.  Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings. 
    If the issue persists, try signing out of all services that require signing into your Apple ID and then signing back in.

  • Ever since I updated iTunes it'll stop playing a song at random. How do I fix it?

    I recently updated my iTunes to 10.5 and I don't know if it has anything to do with my problem but every now and then it and my Nano 5th Gen will just stop at a random point in the song.  It'll act like I hit stop when I didn't though.  I dunno what the heck is going on but I really hope Apple fixes it QUICK!!!!!! IT'S REALLY GETTING ANNOYING.

    OK, so uncheck that option and sync your device.
    Once the sync is complete, check that option again, and sync to see if it syncs up.
    Also, make sure that on your Summary page, you don't have Sync Only Checked Songs selected.

    If it's an older iPod, its software is not being updated by Apple.  So, I don't see how updating iTunes would make the iPod not work with the car's audio system, since iTunes just updates the song files (not how the iPod operates).
    Does the iPod work by itself (play songs), when disconnected from the computer and iTunes?

    First, reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
    Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
    Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
    ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
    First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
    After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
    I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

    Have you tried the basics from the manual?  Restart.  Reset.  Restore.

    Try force rebooting it, hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds until the apple boot logo comes up. If that doesn't work, try rebooting your computer.

    Ever since the last iTunes update, my cloud movies and TV purchases all vanished from my iTunes library.  I go to Settings>Store>Show Cloud Purchases, but Show Cloud Purchases isn't there.  So, I go to the store, then click on purchases, and I download anything from my iTunes account.  Now, I go to Settings>Store>Show Cloud Purchases, and it is back.  I check the box, and my cloud purchases are again back in iTunes.
    OK, I wouldn't bother posting this, but a day or so later, it all happens again.  Cloud purchases gone, no option to fix in the Settings>Store menu until I go to the store and download something again. 
    How do I get iTunes for Windows to keep showing my cloud purchases without having to do this silly work-around every day or two?

    Audiobooks are not avaiable for redownload from iTunes, though I suspect you may find they are still on your computer even if not currently listed in your library. This may help...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
    Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
    In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
    See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    When you get it all working make a backup!
    Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
    Would you mind telling me which anti-virus package you use? It may be that it is disturbing iTunes when it tries to write out the fresh database, as it does after almost any activity with your library. I'm noticing more of this type of problem than usual and trying to see if there is any pattern. It may help to prevent a repeat of the problem if you look at the advanced options for your AV package and see if you can find a way to exclude the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.
