Everweb

There has been a lot of discussion here about an iWeb replacement, especially Everweb.  I bought Everweb and spent the next several weeks rebuilding my website on Everweb.  No you can't import the files, you go from scratch.  It has a slightly steeper learning curve than iWeb, but once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty quickly. There are basic support videos and a good blog, but no manual worth the name.  Roddy helped out by making a bunch of widgets which really speed up the process.  Most SEO is built into the program, but you need a couple of Roddy's widgets to do a couple of things.
Anyway, the great day comes and…. IT WON'T UPLOAD.  I tried the Everweb ftp provided, Cyberduck, Filezilla and it just won't appear on my provider.  I even had them wipe my files so that I could do a clean install.  I spent a lot of time with them, Machighway, and could find no problem at that end.  I am also working with Rage to figure it out.  I finally reinstalled my iWeb site with absolutely no problem.  I had to have a site available.
There has been a lot of talk on other threads that you have to use Rage's hosting service with Everweb, even though Rage claims you can use any provider.  It's been a number of days, uploading TEST directories, and nothing yet.  Yesterday, they suggested that "maybe I would want to use their hosting service".  Uh ha.  Machighway charges me $49.95 a year for 5 gigs.  Rage is $99 per year and 2 gigs. In fact, reading their blogs, the only ones who seem be having success, are the ones using Rage's provider service, but maybe that's just me reading into it.  Anyway, a couple of more days and I am so done with Rage.  Maybe your experience with them will be better.
I was looking at Webacapella (sp?) a while back, maybe I'll look some more.

Your company sounds solid.  Can you supply me with URL's that review or comment on EverWeb, that are not connected to your company or this forum?  That would be helpful.
Sure! But please remember that it may be best to take this discussion to our support department or forums because this is an iWeb forum and I don't want to use it as a means to promote our software.
Here is one we are most proud of;

And some others;

I created a shape (square with rounded corners) and tried to put text over and into the shape, and could not.  I spent hours trying to do this.
Although I can't be sure, this may be due to the fact that in iWeb you can just start typing and text will go into a shape. In both iWeb and EverWeb you can double click a shape to start typing, but EverWeb required the double click. As of version 1.5 or 1.6 (can't remember exactly), this works the same as it did in iWeb. That may have been the problem, but I'm just guessing. It was a highly requested feature and the cause of some confusion.
Perhaps I should have persevered.
Yes of course! We're here to help. Most of our users who get stuck one something will keep asking and they will get it. Then once over that hurdle they usually become somewhat of an expert themselves and start solving problems for others.
Likely other users had the same issue and the more people who tell us they have problems with it, the better we know that we need to improve the area. Always persevere!
If you want, I can email you privately, but I don't want to take too much of your time.
You can email support, don't worry about taking up too much of our time. We are here to help you! And create an awesome website builder. Let us help you create a great website! We'll have you up and running in no time, and you'll see you will quickly get the hang of everything. We have a large community on our forums to who can help you as well. But we are here to serve you!
1. How much memory will EverWeb take on my computer?  (I have 8GB) (I used 4.8 of system memory; a little more than half)
Memory used by software is dynamic, meaning software uses as much as it needs. You don't have 8GB of memory, you have technically as much memory as there is free hard drive space on your computer. OS X will use disk space as memory when needed, and does so constantly without you knowing. But that's a more technical answer. Your system software will adjust the memory used as more applications and resources are being used (it may be 4.8 now but that will change all the time).
Usually one website project will take 50MB to 500MB depending on how many images, text and other objects are on your page. Don't worry about this, it's not something you really need to consider anymore when running software. Back in OS 9 days you did, but OS X doesn't really require you to think about this for everyday software.
2. Where specifically do I ask my questions when I'm transferring all 200+ pages from iWeb into EverWeb?
Our discussion forums are a great place to start or our support email. You can find it under the Support tab on our website.
3. Do you only answer questions from customers who use your host?  I am so happy with Bluehost.
We answer questions from anyone and everyone! You don't need to host with us. But keep in mind that we can't fix your server related issues. That's why we offer the EverWeb + Hosting because when we have access to the whole system, we can offer better support.
4. Will I be a pest if I ask more than 10 questions?
I wish I could show you how the types and quantity of questions from people that we get! Don't worry about this. You sound like a smart person who just needs to get going...
5. I have to look up how much it will cost (I don't remember)... I hope it's a one-time fee instead of a monthly fee.
No monthly fee. It is a one time $79.95 USD fee and that gets one year of updates and support. For an additional year, you can purchase that for $49.95 USD but it is not required and you NEVER lose access to the purchased version (and upgrades) that you paid for.
Our view is this. Instead of charging for major releases that are overstuffed with features, we focus on major features all throughout the year. That makes the software less prone to bugs, you get more frequent updates and we aren't motivated to wait to add features in order to sell a major version.

  • I just saw a message that iWeb has been discontinued by Apple.  It suggested EverWeb.  Has anyone used this or do you have aother recommendation?

I just saw a message that iWeb has been discontinued by Apple.  It suggested changing to EverWeb.  Has anyone used this or do you have another recommendation?

    Hi
I have now used Everweb to transfer a website from iWeb & am now working on transferring a second website.
I cannot recommend Everweb highly enough. I am an amateur, so iWeb was the easy option for me. Everweb is just as easy to use and very similar to iWeb. New features are being added every few days.
I am extremely impressed by the excellent and prompt service from both the forum and support. All my questions have been answered (& there have been many of them!)
Everweb is complimented by an excellent site Everweb codebox which has developed more widgets and codes to add to Everweb. Roddy from Everweb codebox has been invaluable by answering questions on the forum & generally complimenting the Everweb team.
I have purchased the Everweb program & Hosting. This gives my 1 click updating and works seamlessly. The price is competitive and the support exemplary.
All in all, I am delighted with Everweb, excellent program & excellent support!! I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone.
In answer to your question...buy it!!!!

  • Everweb query

    Hi all –
I realise this is a question for the Everweb or GoDaddy forum but I've had no luck with either as they have both directed me to ask the question to the other so I'm hoping someone here who has any knowledge of Everweb can help. Does anyone know which hosting package requirements Everweb needs – what I mean is Parallels Plesk for Microsoft or cPanel for Linux, do I need MySQL etc? Or does it not matter?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Did you ask in the Everweb forum?
    http://billing.ragesw.com/forum.php
If you did and they don't know the answer, then you have a clear indication of their 'knowledge'.
Everweb is no different from other applications. It creates webpages. Awesome!
In general it is best to choose UNIX webhosting. It usually comes with all the bells and whistles, including MySQL and PHP, which you do not need when using Everweb, or iWeb for that matter. But it's nice to have it.
But EW uses PHP for the Contact form.
cPanel and Plesk are simply pages with buttons for the services offered. Give it another name, like Control Panel, and nothing changes.
You can use a Microsoft service, but these are geared towards MS specific features such as .ASP and MS SQL instead of .PHP and MySQL.

Par contre avec Everweb je ne comprends pas comment faire !!!!! Je ne suis pas un professionnel  et ma connaissance de la langue Anglaise est assez limitée !!! Qui peut m’aider à essayer de comprendre la marche à suivre ???? Merci d’avance.
    Cordialement.

The publication with Iweb was very easy to make, has to leave the page " regulations of publication of the site ".
On the other hand with Everweb I do not how understand to make!!!!! I am not a professional and my knowledge of the English language is limited enough!!! Who can help me to try to understand the procedure???? Thank you in advance.
    Cordially.

This is actually an iWeb user forum, so if you have a questions about EverWeb, then you need to go and ask in the EverWeb forums - go to http://www.everwebapp.com and click on the Forums and sign in and ask your question there.
Essentially though, publishing is the same as from iWeb in that you sign in and then publish your site to a local folder on your desktop and then use the ftp programme of your choice to upload to your web host - so Cyberduck, Yummy Ftp, Transmit etc.
Ask in the EverWeb forums though.

  • Finally Everweb replaces iWeb - Rage software

    hello,
just to mention that there is a software-program called 'EVERWEB' that works exactly like iWEB.
    Check it out!
    Radidjan

No, it doesn't work exactly like iWeb. It is more advanced and has more features that iWeb has.   EverWeb has been discussed here for some time now.

  • Kudos to Everweb support team

I haven't got a question but I wanted to post about an experience I just had with RAGE Software's Everweb web builder. With some skepticism I stopped using iWeb (for obvious reasons) and turned to Everweb about six months ago. While nothing is perfect Everweb does everything it said it would do. They even added live phone support which sealed the deal for me. I recently experienced a catastrophic fail with one of my projects and it looked like i was about to lose about 8 hours of work.  Long story short, when it appeared all was lost (in part my fault for a back-up disk that was full), the creator of Everweb himself took over the support on this problem and actually promised he would restore my project. It took just a day or so but he actually brought this project back from the dead. I thought I was a goner and would have to recreate most of the website. I was and am very impressed with both Everweb and their support. If you're skeptical as I was, they are worth looking into for sure.

    Thanks!

  • I am trying to edit my website which was composed in iweb. I have my website saved on my hard drive. When I open iweb, I can't seem to load the website folder into iweb for editing purposes. Anyone know a quick solution to this?

I am trying to edit my website which, was composed on iweb about 2 years ago. I have the website stored on my hard drive. When I open iweb, I can't figure out how to load the website into iweb for editing purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You need to migrate to a modern, supported webpage development application and leave iWeb behind.  It hasn't been supported for 2 years now and was behind the curve feature wise when it was dropped by Apple.
One app that many have migrated to because it is very similar to iWeb in the GUI and features is Everweb.  It has a demo version that you can try.  Text and photos from you current published site can be copied and pasted into Everweb to help the migration over.
There are other possible candidates.  Just search the iWeb forum for "iWeb alternative" or "iWeb replacement" to get a list of topics discussing them.

  • Time Machine back-up, only restores application, how do I open it to retrieve the contents?

I have iWeb 3.0.3 with a large web site on it that I maintain each month - www.wworkshop.net - This has been running on a G5 Power PC Mac with 10.5.8.  The G5 has just given up the ghost, luckily - I had hoped - I have been backing up regularly with ‘The Time Machine’ onto a ‘My Passport for the Mac’.  We also have in the family a G4 Power PC Mac PowerBook with 10.5.8 on it, together with an iMac running 10.6.8.
On attempting to reinstall iWeb from the back-up, first it is not recognized by the Time Machine on the G4, it is however on the iMac, and on restoring iWeb appears to be loaded, such that the new size of iWeb on the iMac corresponds with the original - about 500MB as compared with about 30MB for the application with out the web site attached.  My problem is, that when I open the back up copy of iWeb on the iMac, the web site is not there, it only wants to start from scratch.  I also have a second back up machine that also has (an older copy) of the web site on it, with in a copy of iWeb, that did restore onto the G4, but again, the size would indicate that it contains the web site, but it also only opens to start a new one.
Question.1:  How do I get iWeb to cough up my web site, instead of trying to start a new one when I open it?
I always save to a desk top folder from iWeb when updating my web site, then from there load it up to the WWW.
Question.2: Is there any way of using the saved data in the folder to get it back into iWeb to recreate it in the application, or do I have to recreate the complete web site from scratch, all 2500+ photos and text?

When you backed up the website, you should have backed up iWeb the application, but you also needed to back up your domain.sites file - your website in iWeb is not automatically part of iWeb the application, so there is no website for iWeb to "Cough up" - it is the application only, so you need your domain file.
Your domain.sites file is located and stored under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  This is located under your User Library and NOT your System Library and if you wanted your website back again as well as iWeb the application, then it is this file that you should have baked up.
No, there is no way to get your data back from saved published files on your desktop because iWeb does not and never has had an import facility, so it cannot open these files.  The only way is your domain.sites file and if you do not have access to these, then you are looking at re-building your site from scratch.
iWeb is no longer a supported product and has not been sold or supported by Apple for over 2 years now.
If you need to re-build your website from scratch, then do so with an application that is actually being actively developed and supported such as EverWeb.
Other alternatives are RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Epress 7, WebAcappella 4 and Flux V.
Also, your OS and your Macs generally seem to be old and at some stage you should consider updating.  You should consider purchasing an Intel Mac rather than the Power PC, because you can then update your OS to the latest - you still appear to be running Snow Leopard, which is old now and does not support all the latest technologies.  Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks and now Yosemite have gone before, so you should consider upgrading to an Intel Mac and keeping at least one Mac fully up-to-date.  If you don't do this, it just means that you cannot run the latest software on your Mac and some iPhones, if you use them are incompatible with earlier versions of iTunes.
Technology moves very fast these days and you need to ensure that you keep at least one Mac up-to-date, even if this means buying a new one - you can get re-furbished Macs at cheaper prices.
Unfortunately, as you did not back up the right things, then you'll have to re-build your site from scratch, but don't use iWeb - it is not a supported product and has not been for over 2 years.  Get something newer.

  • My new computer does not have iWeb and I can't open the files from the old computer. What can I do???

I'm really desperate. I used to publish to a blog directly from iWeb, then I discontinued it. When I made the switch to iCloud, I wasn't worried because I knew my files would always be there. However, once I got a new computer, I transferred all the old files to an external hard drive and I thought everything would work just fine. Well, it didn't Neither can I open iWeb nor can I find my files.
    Can anyone help me please?

New Macs have not shipped with iWeb for over 2 years and Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 2 years now - Apple stopped selling it and dropped support for it when MobileMe was ditched in favour of iCloud which does not offer hosting.
If you want iWeb, then you will need to have a look at your old installation CD's for your old Mac and see if iWeb is on these and you can then install it from there or if you don't have these CD's any longer, then you'll have no option but to purchase a copy of either iLife 09 or iLife 11 from Amazon - these boxed sets both contain iWeb 09, which is the latest version of iWeb.
Other than this and as you have not done your blog for sometime, perhaps you should consider re-creating it from scratch with a software that is actively supported and updated - that is NOT iWeb any longer.
You could try using WordPress, either .com or .org - .org is good if you already have hosting and you can install WordPress directly onto your server.  If you want something free, then you could use WordPress.com which is then published on the WordPress servers.
You could also take a look at EverWeb from Rage Software, which is very new and is very like iWeb with all the extras, such as drop down menus etc.  Take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.
As for your files, it sounds that when you say files, these might be the published files for your site, if you went into iWeb and published them to a local folder?  This is not a backup and even if you could find these files, then iWeb will not be able to open them because it has no import facility, so cannot open an already published site - html and css files.
What you need is your domain.sites files which can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
I would cut your losses and if you don't have iWeb, then don't bother paying for software that is now outdated and unsupported - move onto to something new and re-create everything in either WordPress or EverWeb.

  • Media in iWeb not showing photos in Photos library

I recently upgraded to Mavericks on my iMac and am now attempting to load more photos to my iWeb website. As a result of Mavericks, my iPhoto library has been imported into the Photos library now and no longer show up in the Media panel of iWeb as they did before. All my audio, movies and widgets are still available in the panel, but no photos are found/displayed. I tried to drag and drop directly from the Photos library to my web page but the photos were not incorporated. Is there a way to connect the new Photos library to iWeb or is there an alternate way to connect these two?

The iWeb app hasn't been updated in about 6 years and was dropped by Apple 3 years ago.  It's just not compatible with the those features in Yosemite.
You can still use iPhoto if up previously had a version of iPhoto o 9.x or later.  Go to the App Store and under Purchases find iPhoto 9.6.1 and download.  That will open the iPhoto library and you'll be able to access it from  within iWeb 3.0.
At this stage you should consider migrating over to a website application that is supported and has all of the new features that iWeb doesn't.  One that many migrated to because it is so like iWeb in it's interface and  features is EverWeb.

  • How to install and use Iweb 2.0.4 on a Mac running 10.9.1?

    Hey All-
Okay - just bought a Used Macbook Pro Laptop runnning 10.9.1 - and it came with iweb 3.0.4 -
Tried to open our website which was built in iWeb 2.0.4 and it doesn't open it- it performs the operation but does not launch the site - it creats a new blank page - I have tried this many ways - no luck and iweb doesn't allow you to open a site from within the program
So - I went to my old laptop and copied the iweb 2.0.4 version over to the new laptop - it will not launch the site either - I get an error message
I tried downloading 2.0.4 and re-installed over the old version and still get the same error message -
    ERROR MESSAGE:
    Can’t open file “~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2.”
Can anyone help me get my site open in iweb for updates - either the old 2.0.4 or the new 3.0.4 that came with this laptop?
    Thanks for the help -
    Zander

You don't actually need to install iWeb 08 or version 2 and there is no point, because this does not work properly with Mavericks which you are running on the Laptop - Mavericks will only work with iWeb 09.
The reason that iWeb will not open your domain.sites file is that from Lion, Mountain Lion to Mavericks, iWeb lost the ability to be able to open individual domain.sites files, so this is what will happen.
To be able to open individual domain files you need to download something called 'domain cracker' or 'iWeb Switch Domain' and these will allow you to open individual domain.sites files under Mavericks.
This is all you need to do - download the iWeb Switch and you'll be able to open it, but don't install iWeb 08, because it won't work with Mavericks.
Also remember that iWeb has not been sold or supported by Apple for the past 2 years, so think about using another programme instead - there are lots with the most like iWeb being EverWeb at http://www.everwebapp.com.

  • Can I transfer my iWeb files to new iMac running Yosemite

I have recently purchased a new iMac running Yosemite 10.10.2. I have a set of iWeb files that I was working on but had not yet published as a website on my old iMac which is running OS X 10.5.8. Is it possible to transfer these files to the new mac? I can't find any iWork or iLife files in the Applications folder on my new mac.

Yes, you can transfer the files, but you will be unable to open them, because as you have found, new Macs have not shipped with iWeb installed on them for a long time now - iWeb as you may or may not know is very old software now that has not been sold or supported by Apple for at least 3 years.
The only other way that you will be able to get iWeb onto your new Mac is buy a copy of iLife 11 or iLife 09, both of which contained the final version of iWeb - which is iWeb 09.  You would need to purchase this from Amazon.  You could try an old installation CD that came with your other Mac if you still have it and you could try installing iWeb onto your new iMac from that, but if it does not work, then you'll have to buy a copy of iLife 11 or 09 from Amazon.
Your other alternatives of course are to find some new web creation software that is supported or you continue to use iWeb on your old Mac and just update and publish your sites from that machine.
In the end though, it might just be easier to bite the bullet and move onto some new software and re-build you site with that.
Software that is worth taking a look at is RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux V and EverWeb.  Then don't forget all the online website builders that you have, that are slightly different, such as WordPress.com, Wix.com and others.
Other alternatives are then the Content Management Systems such as Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.org.
I would suggest that you take a look at EverWeb first though - it is very much like the iWeb interface and can do a lot more than iWeb could out of the box, such as contact forms included, SEO included, drop down menus, master pages, support for PayPal with widgets and lots more.
Take and look and you can download a trial version before you buy.
There are lots of different options available to you, but ultimately, if you want to continue using iWeb on your new Mac, then you'll have to buy iLife form Amazon.  Time to move on perhaps?!!

  • How can I make a pull down menu in I web

how can I make a pull down menu in I web?

You can't do this directly in iWeb itself and it is quite complex - you need to use third party software and it is a matter of pasting code into the html snippet in iWeb and then uploading certain things to your host/server and then connecting them.  It can get quite fiddly if you don't really know what you are doing and it only takes you to upload the wrong thing and get some code wrong and your menu will not show up.
Why not ditch iWeb in favour of newer software - try EverWeb at http://www.everwebapp.com and in EverWeb you can create drop down menus from within the app and it is very easy to do.
I would change now as iWeb has not been supported by Apple or sold for the last 2 years, so now might be a good time to look elsewhere and ditch iWeb for good.
I already have and purchased EverWeb and re-built one of my sites using this app and have moved my other site to Drupal so that I can do more with it and make it a members site - this can be done more easily if you use a Content Management System like Drupal.

  • IWeb can't find previous pages after transfer/reinstall

I recently got a "new" (read: my husband's previous) MacBook Pro and lost some of my files/folders due to a problem during the transfer.  I had to reinstall iWeb and now it won't find the pages I had created and published previously with it.  The pages are in their own folder (SuzWebPages) as I had to manually restore them instead of letting the computer copy everything over.  When I open iWeb, it can't find the pages.  I have looked through other help topics on this and tried moving the SuzWebPages folder to the iWeb folder in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and renaming it to a .sites2 file, but iWeb still doesn't see the folder/site/pages and opens with the choose a new page screen.  When I right-click and choose Open With on the actual pages, iWeb is grayed out.
I went from Yosemite 10.10.1 to the same version.  I had to reinstall many programs which did not transfer or were corrupted, such as MS Word, Safari, and Mail, but all were able to find my previous files although none retained my information.
Any suggestions?  I can provide any further information needed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Suz

The file/package you need to have for use with iWeb is called Domain.sites2.  The folder containing your published webpages is of no use with iWeb.
If you still have your old Mac go to your Home/Library/Applications Support folder and look for the iWeb folder. It will have the domain file you need.  Copy the iWeb folder to the same location on your new Mac and launch iWeb.
Otherwise you'll have to rebuild your webpage from scratch.  If you have to do that I suggest you switch over to a new web development application as iWeb has been discontinued for about 2 years.
One app that many have migrated to because it is so like iWeb in its user interface and how it works (but with many more features) is EverWeb.  There's a 30 day demo version that you can try to see if you like it.  To recreate your website with it you can copy text and photos from your existing site and paste into the EverWeb version.
For other potential iWeb replacement apps search the iWeb forum for "iWeb alternative" or "iWeb replacement".
