Every clip turns black after redering
Okay, what is going on? I just finished a beautiful iMovie with no problems. Now, I am ready to start another one. When I use any of the themes and drop my photos in, then apply, the clip goes completely black after redering and nothing plays. I tried adding photos with and without the Ken Burns effect and the same thing happened. What has happened to my wonderful iMovie application?

Updating Ken Burns stills works only until you empty the trash in iMovie HD 6.0.2.

Why do some of my clips turn black after they are transcoded?
I've been using the same camera (Canon T4i) with the same computer (Macbook Pro) for over the last two years. I've never had this issue. Tonight, almost all of my files imported without any issues. I chose to "optimize" the clips and kept them in their original location They all showed up in my clip bin, but after transcoding, about 5 of the 36 files/clips I imported turned black with no audio or video. I can look in the transcoded folder and see that they're there, but they do not have a thumbnail and will not play in preview. I tried to duplicate one of the original files with a different name and it still has the problem after transcoding. All of my original files play fine. They don't seem corrupted. Anyone run into this issue?
I have the t4i and a 2013 iMac and developed similar problems when I added an SSD in a OWC enclosure via USB3. I was getting over 300 MB/s transfer rates and thought that this was going to be a great help until I experienced all the drop outs in the video I was importing. I found out that USB 3 has a "burst mode" and I think that was the culprit when writing the video. For complete disclosure, I was using a USB3 Hub to connect the drive to the system (not directly connected.) Since I save my video files onto a separate (firewire 800) drive when I copy them from the camera, I don't know if this is a system wide problem, or just with FCPX. My problem seems to gone away when I connected the USB 3 SSD device to an Akitio Thunderbolt "Dock" which I think throttles the USB3 stream somewhat (not a lot, but SpeedDisk showed slightly slower speeds afterwards) or at least communicates better with FCPX.
Anyway, you didn't state what your media pathway was, and I'm just basically asking: is a USB3 drive involved? -
Clips turn black after I synching with audio
When I import my synched footage from Pluraleyes to FCPX the audio works but not the video and it's black. The same thing happens if I just try the nattive synch tool in FCPX.
All my footage is off a 5D Mark3 and recoreded to WAV on a ZOOM h4N.
Steps already taken:
- Check Video Inspector
- Checked boxes in ROLES
- Clossed all apps and removed prefrences with managerI tried your example and have good news for you :-)
You are *assuming* the clip is black, but it isn't.
The problem with your example is that the audio clip is 6:24 long and the video is only 00:41 long.
Furthermore, the actual video only begins around the 5:30 mark.
Nevertheless, they sync PERFECTLY!
Here is how the synchronized clip looks in its own timeline. Note how the audio starts at the beginning but the video only starts at about 5:30.
You can add this synchronized clip to your project timeline and trim it there, or mark the in and out points in the event browser. -
One of my imported MOV files turns "black" after editing with it for a time and I can't retrieve the images. This has happened three times, only this file. The placeholder is still there. Files are fine on hard drive. What gives? how to stop this? is in final cut pro 10.1.4

The screen turns black after the book has been closed and is now opened. sometimes it does this, sometimes it does not. If i turn down the screen brightness by using the brightness keys at the top left of the key pad, then the screen will reappear.

Screen turns black after log in
Hi,
My screen on my desktop turns black after logging in. I can still see the cursor. I hit ctrl alt delete, went to task manager typed in rstrui to do a system restore. I went back a few months of restore but it did not work.
The strange thing is sometimes I wait about 30-45 min the black screen goes away. But then restarting, I have to go through the same thing again.
Any ideas or help would be very much appreciated.

my display suddenly turns black during work! It happens about every 30-40 seconds. Then I have to press to lower the F1 Botton 2 or 3 times and then the F3 Buttonn several times until the light comes back. What happened? How can I fix this problem, which came after several days pause/standby?

MBP Display turns black after login
Hi,
When I wake up my MBP (15'' 10.4.10, Core duo, ATI Radeon), login, the screen
sometimes (may be every 4th time) turns black, but the MBP seems to be awake.
When I put it to sleep and wake it up again, it works fine. This seems to happen
more often after using a video projector.
May be the password was entered incorrectly, may be not. But it did not turn back
to the login screen either.
I don't have this issue with my iMac (different use though).
Any advise?

DirkYour issue sounds like the same issue i have on my 17" MBP. Are you waking then having to log in to wake from a screensaver?
I have my computer set to ask for authentication after it wakes and every once in a while, i'll wake my computer, and the authentication window immediately pops up, i proceed to put my password in then it goes back to black, although sometimes, it will the show the mouse cursor.
I dunno what happens, but I have noticed that when I do wake it up, the optical drive (i think) makes a noise as if it were reading, and that's usually when i get the black screen.
Anyone have any fixes? Could this be a video driver or hardware issue? -
Pictures display then turn black after reload or switching tabs
Images on web pages load initially (usually) but then some turn black if the page is reloaded or if switching between tabs. Will also happen with pictures at bottom of pages on initial load. Sometimes the pictures will display normally again after scrolling, but not always. Happens when single tab is open, multiple tabs are open, and both in and out of private mode. Started in version 34 or 35, still happening in 36.
Correction: desktop version works for new reply but not when editing a reply.

My 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off (=stops the music) when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black for power saving mode. Does anyone know how to solve this ?
I have already tried resetting, connecting to PC/iTunes to check the software version, turning off/on, I don't have any inspiration anymore.

If your iPod touch unexpectedly powers off, you may want to use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -

Screen turns black after loading services
Hi
After an update with pacman, then screen of my laptop turns black during boot. At first the screen is working, showing the services that are loaded. Then it turns black. In a flash it shows the messages again, but then it stays black. This happens both in the multi-user.target and in the graphical.target.
I tried:
1) Downgrade the nouvaux driver
2) Full system update
3) Switch from nouvaux to nvida driver
4) Uninstall gdm
But this did not help.
The graphics card is a nvidia GT 650

Clip turns black depending on sequence codec
I have a clip that turns black -- disappears -- when I change the sequence's codec from None to anything else.
I've created a new FCP session that contains a number of clips. Each clip was created in Shake as a 720x540, 30fps QT file, codec=None. The clips are all on the same track in FCP. No effects or transitions.
With the sequence's codec set to None, the first clip displays properly. (But I can't playback more than the first clip w/o a dropped frame error.) When I change the sequence's codec to Animation, Motion-JPEG-A, &c., the first clip on the track refuses to display. It turns black. The other clips continue to display properly.
Any clues as to what might be going on? This is awfully weird!

G5 dual-proc Mac OS X (10.4.9)At first very strange; but now makes sense. Masking the problem (pardon the pun) is that codec None supports alpha channels, the others I tried don't.
Setting alpha to None/Ignore fixed the problem. (Operator error: I needed to first delete the clip from the track, change the alpha definition for the clip in the bin, then drag the clip back onto the track. Is there an easier way to change properties?)

Sections of screen turn black after using LogMeIn
We had a customer call in yesterday and we used LogMeIn to help her out with her email. Today she called in again and we used LogMeIn again, but this time as soon as we connected some areas turned black. After the connection ended and she rebooted, there are still black areas.

Not to solve your issue directly, but have you considered using ScreenSharing? It's built it and works quite well. -
My HP Touchsmart IQ507 screen turns black after boot up

But one thing doesn't work!
I used my old "*DVI - HDMI cable*" and the new "*Mini DisplayPort - DVI adaptor*" to connect my new MacBook with my SHARP Aquos LCD TV. But the screen of the MacBook just turned black and nothing else happened, even if I removed the plugs. The only thing I was able to do was a reboot.
The HDMI cable worked very well until today with my old PowerBook G4 (I just didn't need the adaptor).
Do I need another adaptor? What is wrong? Any ideas?
