Every paragraph has a different gap size

Hi,
I prepared a paragraph style for my main text. But every paragraph of my text seems to have a different gap size.
Do I have a wrong setting in my paragraph style? Or is it the Font? I don't know. Any hints?
The space between the lines is set to 10 pt.
Thanks much.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James

  • Different page sizes in one pdf file will not scale to print correctly

    Hello all,
I have a pdf document that contains three different page sizes; 8.5"x11", 11"x17" and 34"x22".  These pdf files are custom manuals and we print many of these over the course of a month.
In the older versions of Adobe Acrobat when printing this type of file, I could click print, select the page setup size to 11"x17", then select shrink oversize pages (or fit, depending), and choose paper by pdf page size and I would get the following pages from the printer - 8.5"x11" page would print on a 8.5"x11" paper, 11"x17" on 11"x17" and (most importantly) 34"x22" on 11"x17".  We do this because our printer does not have paper larger than 11"x17" yet the customer also receives a soft copy of the file and many times prints the large pages full size as needed on their large format plotters.
With the newer versions of Acrobat, this will not work.  The only way these files will print automatically is to scale the 22"x34" down to 8.5"x11".   Why would I want to scale it smaller than my largest available paper size?  Also, all of the 11"x17" pages in a multi page size document will come out of the printer rotated 180° yet Adobe shows them correctly when the file is opened.
Also, when I use the settings above, the print preview box shows the document correctly!  The HP technicians have the latest drivers installed and they have shown me where it seems that Adobe is not even sending the larger sheets but instead stops the printing process with an error.  So I try to send a 20 page document but Adobe stops at the first 22x34 page.
We have now lost our old computers with every last old version of Acrobat that I could use to make this work due to mandatory hardware and OS upgrades.  I must find a way to print these documents without individually selecting different pages to print and then trying to assemble the document afterward.
How do I preserve the pages sizes in my document and print the large pages scaled down to the largest paper size I have available in my printer?
    Thanks ahead of time.

    Ajlan,
Thank you for your time.  I am still having the issue.  I am using Adobe reader 11.0.09 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.12.  Neither one have the option in the print menu that you show for a physical printer.  They only offer that option for an Adobe PDF creation driver.
It seems as though the printer you have selected in your menu is only for creating a pdf.  I need to physically print the pdf.  Do you have this same option when you select a physical printer?

I just subscribed to ITunes Match. I was able to connect my phone and Ipad but I cant't connect my wife's phone. She has a different Apple ID.

The iCloud and iTunes Store account ID are not the same thing. They can be different although some folks, like myself, do have the same Apple ID for all the Apple services. Go to Settings > Store and enter the exact same iTunes Store account ID you used to purchase iTunes Match. Be aware you can only switch Apple IDs on an iOS device every 90 days.

  • How do I create a PDF document with multiple different page sizes?

I scan tif images and can have a single document with Letter, Legal, Tabloid, and even full map plan sizes (36" X 24") all in one document.  I get the document all set, then do a: File, Print, choose Adobe PDF (running Acrobat XI Pro), but it converts all the pages in my tif file to a single size.
I've found where to set the size, but the problem is I have many different sizes.  Is there a way to have the Adobe PDF printer, just use the original documents page sizes for each page when converting?

The program I use to create the TIF files (OpenText's eDOCS Imaging) does not make PDFs, it makes TIFs (and TIFFs).  To then convert this, if I try to do it through Adobe directly, I get an error which prompts me to open it in the native program and to choose print and then select the adobe printer.
This works perfect if every page is the same size, but many times my documents have many different page sizes  as well as portrait and landscape within the same document (but that is a separate option).
Doesn't Adobe have a "use the original page size / orientation" as an option when creating PDFs from existing documents?

  • Different font sizes in Explorer and Safari

Hi there, before I go completely nuts can someone give me a
hand with figuring out how I can get my plain old body text to
display at the same size in both Explorer and Safari.
I am using a Mac myself, but when entering text at size 1, it
is displaying larger in Explorer (at about the size I want) and
very small in Safari (too small to be easily readable). I have done
some research and thought cascading style sheets might be the way
to go but I have also read that the some text problems occur when
    using cascading style sheets.
I haven't bothered with them previously as there hasn't been
that much text to bother with them.
Has anyone got any tips, or has used CSS to fix this problem?
    Regards,
    Elle V
p.s. if you are using a mac, you can check out what I mean by
    viewing www.homestylefinance.com.au/company.html in both browsers.
I would be interested in hearing from a PC user to see if they are
    seeing the same thing.

You can define your text sizes in many different ways:
    points, pixels, em,
    percentages, etc.
I personally use a percentage to define my base font-size in
    my style sheet,
and then declare different text sizes in em's for different
    selectors. I'd
stay away from points (which it sounds like you're using them
    - due to the
fact that cross-browser display varies). I'd also stay away
    from pixels,
because IE users can not resize their browser text size.
My personal suggestion would be to use em's to declare your
    font sizes. Here
is an example of something you could put in your CSS document
    (which you'll
    want to start using):
    body { font-size: 100%; }
    .text1 { font-size: .75em }
    HTH, take care.

  • One document... different page sizes?

Hi! I just upgraded to InDesign CS4. My boss wants me to create a flipbook. I have the October issue of InDesign Magazine which will help. However, the document I want to turn in to a flipbook has 6 regular-sized page (8.5x11) and one larger page (11x17). I know in Quark (which I much more familiar with) you cannot have different page sizes within one document. Can you do this in InDesign? Thanks.
    Julie

Having played with this a bit, let me ask this a different way. I'm taking a printed document that is like a regular magazine (except it's much shorter). It has a front cover which is 8.5 x 11 and a back cover which is 8.5x11. All interior pages are 2-page spreads. From what I can tell, I have to create the pages in InDesign 4 and export them as an swf file. This currently creates all 2-page spreads. So... how do I get the front and back covers to be single pages? I can do it so that the other half of the spread is blank, but that's not what I want. I want it it to "act" like a real magazine. Thanks.

  • "target document has a different depth than source document." help?

as of yesterday i have been recieveing an alert when i try to move a jpeg into a new photoshop doc stating that my target document has a different depth than my source document and will (which it definiately does) result in lower than expected quality. i have no idea how to fix this. please help.
Photoshop specs: CS6; RGB; 16 bit; Res 300 pixels/inches; size: letter; (advanced setting - don't know what these are) color profile: sRGB IEC61966-2.1; Pixel aspect ratio: square pixels
don't know if i accidentally messed with something i shouldn't have or what. any help is appreciated. thank you in advance.

There's GOT to be something to fix. I've been getting that message all night -- when I say "yes" and then try to SAVE the document, it won't give me the option to "save for web."
I started completely from scratch, and still got the error window, and it still wouldn't let me "save for web."
So -- let's begin again -- what needs to be fixed?

  • QuickTimePro - Export vs Save - Different File sizes

    Hi,
with the trim to selection command I selected a bigger part of an AVI-video (Video track format: MPEG-4 DivX v.5 + Audio: Mpeg-1 layer 3 (mp3)).
Although I did not change the video or audio settings I got different file sizes:
The exported video has double the size than the saved file.
    Therfore my questions:
    What is the reason?
What should I prefer - export or save - trying to get smaller files with the same quality?
Thanks for a tip.Greetings from the heart of Germany

    HI mrfibuli
I think you are seeing a general housecleaning of things that
were formerly in your library. For example, lets say you took a
fairly large project. Perhaps 80 slides. Then you delete 60 slides.
This would leave many items in the library. They would be there,
but be unused. So you save as, and after a couple of times of doing
this, the unused objects are purged from the file. This is why you
are seeing a difference in size.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Itunes folder on external: every song has a duplicate

I looked at my external HD itunes music folder and every song has an exact duplicate. ie) song.mp3 has a sister song.mp3...although in my actual itunes program only one is listed, there are no duplicates. My ipod also only syncs to the itunes program and only is syncing one song not the dupes. I don't know how it happened but it is obviously taking up double the space on the external. Other than going through and spending two hours deleting one of the files (and not knowing which one to delete) what can I do to dump the dupes. I clicked a few of them and they both open equally no matter which one I click...so I know that they are exact dupes. Thanks

One thing that I found is that the external reads song.mp3 and then another reads song1.mp3 etc...same file size etc just a "1" after the dupes. Any new CD I load does not dupe... I had an old macbook and now have the new imac.

  • Different slides size , same project

    Hi!
I would like to know how I can have slides with different sizes in the same project without loosing image quality?
When I import the slides into the master project the images become so small that I badly can read the slide, also all the actions I included in the previous project is lost when I import these slides. Anyone can explain how this works and how I could work with slides with different sizes on the same project.
    Thanks

Resizing screencaptures in any way is almost guaranteed to result in loss of clarity.  If you've captured at a different screen size to the project where you want to copy and display the captures, and then resize the graphics to try and accommodate the new size, you will find that edges of on screen text in particular will lose crispness and become fuzzy.  Only when kept at exactly 100% of capture size will you be able to preserve full quality and crisp edges.  This is only usually an issue with screen captures of software interfaces where the original capture format was GIF, PNG, or BMP due to "lossless" compression. Graphics that began life as JPGs use a totally different "lossy" compression algorithm which is designed for working with gradients and shaded blends as is usually found in photographs.
Unfortunately, Advanced Actions created in one Captivate project file cannot be copied to another project file in current versions of Captivate.  However, this IS something we've requested for future versions of Captivate as more and more Captivate authors are discovering the power of Advanced Actions and want to share them across projects without having to recreate them each and every time.
If you know in advance that all modules in a particular elearning course will require specific variables or actions, the recommended workaround is to create a Captivate template (in advance) that is used as the starter for all modules.  This way, you don't have to create all of the actions from scratch each time.  However, this only works if you have done your preliminary design requirements quite thoroughly and know in advance exactly what Advanced Action functionality your projects will require.
I'd have to admit that I still haven't found a way to accurately anticipate such requirements in practice.  I tend to "discover" a lot of requirements for functionality during the course of the development that I never thought of at the beginning of the project.  But that's just me. Your mileage may differ.

  • \What Causes Different Photo Sizes?

    I have  iphoto '09 version  8.1.2  (424).
My photos have vastly different file sizes. This is surprising since I am using the same camera. When I checked the info button, I noticed that the ones with more bytes have a bigger size. For example, a photo with 936 KBs shows a size of 1536 X 2048. Another one with 1.2 MBs shows the same size as the previous one - 1536 x 2048, even though it has more bytes. (Shouldn't these two fotos have different sizes since they have a much different number of bytes?)
But another photo which is 4.8 MBs, much more bytes than the previous two, shows a far bigger size of 4320 x 3240, about double the size of the previous two.
I'm not intentionally changing the size of photos. As a matter of fact, I don't even know how to do it. So what is causing different photos with the same camera to have different sizes? (I checked day photos versus night fotos but there was no pattern that would explain it).

    Two different things
Pixel dimensions do not relate to JPEG file size due to the JPEG compression. If you were working with uncompressed photos like TIFF it would
The differences in pixel dimensions is set by the camera. Your camera (what ever it is) has multiple user set photo dimensions
