Every program wants to use "login" keychain

Every program wants to use "login" keychain.  I can't do anything and I don't want to keep putting a pasword in for everything I do.  I'm sure I had a very similar problem when I first loaded Mavericks.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
          Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked
          Keep login keychain unlocked
is not checked, check it.
Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Repeated requests for "librariand wants to use login keychain"

I am frequently getting dialogue box requests for "librariand wants to use login keychain"....
I understand this is an Apple process, apparently related to iCloud... but how many times does it need to interrupt me?!
There is no "check to remember" option.
Any way to get it to cease?

Librariand seems to be required by iCloud in combination with Evernote. Do you have Evernote installed?

  • "Safari wants to use login keychain" how do I stop this message popping up

    Hello out there!
Everytime I go to a new web page in Safari I box pops up on the screen with the message " Safari wants to use the login keychain. Please enter the keychain password." I click on the "cancel" button and the message disappears and I can get to the web page ok. It's just that having this message box pop up all the bloody time is driving me crazy. Is there anybody out there who knows how I can get rid of it entirely and restore my sanity please?
I don't want to use passwords or keychains.
Thank you so kindly for reading my posting and thank you in advance for any help.
    Best regards Wooziewooster.

Ah yes, you may also (or instead) need to "Open Keychain Access, and choose Preferences from the Keychain Access menu, and click the Reset Keychain button. Enter your current login password and you're done." See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8318028&#8318028

Every 20 seconds or sooner a box appears asking for my keychain password. It can be for Safari, Mail, Calendar, iCloud. How do I get rid of this?

go to the Keychains Menu>Keychain First-Aid and select "repair". If any errors appear, rerun until you get a clean pass.

  • Keychain - why does every program want to access it?

After I set-up MobileMe on my new Mac Mini, every program is now asking for access to the keychain? Whether I approve or deny does not seem to make a difference. Why is this happening now since installing MobileMe and why do the programs need to access it each time? Is there any way to disable this or grant approval so I don't get bombarded by window pop-ups each time a program is started?

Can you give some examples of every program please. Applications such as email, IM etc use it to store passwords and usernames so that's normal. Are there abnormal programs requesting access?

  • Since upgrading to 10.7.2 to use iCloud, i keep getting a message with ubd wants to use the login keychain, anyone for help to how to get rid of this...

since upgrading to 10.7.2 to use iCloud, i keep getting a window message with ubd wants to use the login keychain, i put the right password but it keeps coming back, anyone for help to how to get rid of this...

This is what I did and it seems to have worked so far. While that little annoying box is up you need to open the Keychain access by:
going to applications -> open utilities folder -> click to open Keychain Access
Now here is the stupid part, you have to continue to press the cancel button on the "ubd wants to use login keychain" box for the kaychain window to open. Once you have keychain access open go to:
the top of your monitor and select "Keychain Access" right next to the little apple logo -> click preferences in the options panel-> the preference box will open now -> click "Reset My Default Keychain" -> another box will pop up that says "Please enter your login password. This password will be used to create your new keychain" (of course this is assuming that you use a login password to access your mac) -> enter your login password and a box shows up that says "created a new empty 'Login' keychain"
After that you should be good to go. This new keychain you created with your login password overides the old keychain. The old keychain is still available in the Keychain's folder but is not being used and therefor can be deleted. All you have to do now is press ok, and your good. If the "ubd wants to use login keychain" box is still there after you reset your keychains just hit cancel and it should be gone for good or you can enter your login password.
Is this a fixall that will work forever? I have no idea but doing this has allowed me to access my network at work and all the servers I need to get to.
Oh and one more thing. You may need to press cancel on the ubd box throughout this entire process, I just gon in the habit of clicking a button hitting cancel on the ubd box and the new window would pop up.
I hope this helps you! Sorry if it's long, I was trying to be as detailed as possible to make it  easier. Let me know how it goes.

You're almost there. Instead of deleting the old keychain, reset the current one.
Open Keychain Access, and choose Preferences from the *Keychain Access* menu, and click the *Reset Keychain* button. Enter your current login password and you're done.

  • "Login keychain" password - invalid password. All messed up thanks.

I think Leopard, or the most recent QT upgrade has really messed with my system:
I restart and using my login password I've used for years:
"ichat agent wants to use "login keychain"" - invalid password
"Mail wants to use "login keychain"" - invalid password
"PubSubAgent wants to use "login keychain"" - invalid password- and I can't cancel out of that one.
System preferences wants to use "login keychain"" - invalid password. Then after a minute "keychain error. There was a problem saving to your keychain. Please try again or use keychain access to verify your keychain. Error -128
Go to keychain access- Unlock my user keychain then spinning beach balls. Force quit etc
(Can't login to iDisk iTunes or anything now...)
    Really unhappy now.

I also have similar issues. And followed the advise below.
    1. Insert the Leopard install disk, restart holding the "C" key down
    2. Choose your language so you go to the first page view of install
    3. You can reset passwords in the menu above
    4. Select root and reset your password to what you like
    5. Quit and restart
    6. Choose "Other" as a login
    7. Choose system preferences
    8. Select users that you have registered on the computer
    9. Select option that users can be administrators
    10. Restart and login as the user of your choice.
I did this and was able to login using the "other" account and changed the sys admin password. Gave my user admin priviledges.
But now, I have a circular problem. I can't remove "invalid certificates" from my keychain access app.
    Help!!

  • App wants to use keychain after every restart

Every time I restart and then launch Mail, I get a dialog box stating that it wants to use my keychain (the one that was created with my user name, not the "login" keychain). Is then anyway to have this avoided by granting it automatice permission. Alternatively, is there any way to point it to using the "login" keychain?
    Thanks
    Nestor

I had simply moved other keychains to the trash. Reboot, and the password should be then placed in the login keychain. You could also move/delete keychains and passwords in Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access

  • Every program I have invariably quits unexpectedly

I recently got this Power Mac G4, and am seeing a disturbing trend. Every program I've used for an extended period of time so far has quit unexpectedly. Firefox, Azureus, QuickTime, Unreal Tournament, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein are the major culprits so far, but I am also planning to use this system for Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Final Cut Studio, and many other random programs. I simply cannot allow this to continue and interrupt my workflow. Is there anybody out there that can understand the crash reports and tell me what's going wrong?
    Thank you!!
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.25 GHz, 1.75 GB RAM

I tried to zero out the drive and install OS X 3 times. The problem got worse each time. I tried removing my chips of RAM one by one. Still no luck. Used all the programs that have been recommended so far, and still nothing.
And then... just when I needed it the most (before a video production job), a gift from God.
So I'm at a friend's house, and astonished that he's running 9.2, I demand that he let me upgrade him to 10.6, so I do. Every thing's running fine. He does NOT, however, have a high speed internet connection with which to update various programs, including the OS up to 10.8. So I take his computer to my house (by the way, it's an older G4 tower of similar style to my own, although weaker (500mhz, 512mb)). I set up his system in my workspace, and all of a sudden, the same problem arises. A fleeting moment of panic hit me, quickly followed by an amazing realization. I thought to myself "what's different about this setup? What hardware could possibly cause this problem?" The solution literally stared me right in the face the whole time: My favorite Christmas present. A Samsung SyncMaster 941BW (19" wide screen LCD) monitor.
I NEVER would have expected that a monitor, of all things, could freeze a computer.
I had it plugged in using a DVI connection. I'm now using a DVI to VGA adapter (since the monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs, I can use either), and the problem has vanished. So now I get an analog signal converted from digital. I'd like to get a pure digital signal (if I can find a way to keep it from freezing my system), but for now, I'm just happy I can use my computer!
I sincerely hope that anyone who is having a similar problem finds this post. If you are that person, let me know. I get great satisfaction from knowing I've helped someone with a tech problem.
A final thank you to all who replied to my post!

Every time I login I get the message "aosnotifyd wants to use your confidential information stored in "my name" in your keychain." How do I know if it is safe to allow this? Can anyone advise please?

My immediate reaction is to deny.
Have you downloaded or installed any application that may relate to the abbreviation AOS? It may not necessarily be the application's name, could be the developer or distributor.
As it's occuring at log-in, go to System Preferences > Accounts > your account > Login Items and look for a related item. If there's one there, right-click (or ctrl click) on it and select Reveal in Finder. That will show you where the originator of the item is on your system and should give you more of a clue as to what it is.
I'd remove the item from login items anyway (highlight and click the minus sign at the bottom of the window). There shouldn't be anything trying to use your keychain info to notify anyone.

  • Why does a Login Error occur: "AFP Client wants to use Keychain Login"?

I have three people in my house with separate logins. We are currently using two desktop G4s which are networked via 1000 Base T. When the users login to one of the Macs, they must enter their passwords twice. Once for the AppleShare login and then a second time for the KeyChain Login.
If I attempt to unify the passwords, which are exactly the same, I will get a login error: "AFP Client wants to use Keychain Login". At this point, a dialogue box will appear looking for a password, but not accepting any kind of text at all. All I can do is reset the Mac, go into my admin login and remove the login.keychain file from the local Library folder to get back into the User account.
In my attempts to fix this, I have removed every preference file with the word "login" in it and re-logged in without success. I have also used the Keychain Access software to administer Keychain First Aid without success. Finally, I have deleted the keychain login in Keychain Access without success. I have done all of these separately and together without success.
This is only happening on one Mac. The Mac that has no files on it. All working files are stored on the other Mac and it does not have the same problem at all.
This is not a huge problem, but it is annoying. I would appreciate it if anybody knows anything about this and could shine some light on the situation.

Sorry about the delay from your last reply. I have been busy with work and studying for a licensing exam.
Anyway I tried the AppleJack Utility you suggested. It looked like it tidied up some things. But as for my particular issue, it did absolutely nothing.
Interestingly enough, you know when you aren't looking for something and that something just happens by accident? When I logged in the other day, I typed in the first login. The second dialogue came up immediately and I hit the cancel button instead of the OK button. When I was passed on to the Finder, the second login dialogue came up again. I typed in the password this time and checked the checkbox. When I relogged in, the problem vanished. I only waited this long to let you know to make sure the problem is gone and it is. I wish I would have thought of selecting the cancel button before. Sometimes solutions are simple like this one.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Safari wants to use the "login" keychain. -- Why can't Safari remember???

When I launch the Safari application, I get a dialogue box with a message indicating the following:
Safari wants to use the "login" keychain.
    Please enter the keychain password.
    Password:
    Cancel -- OK
When I get this dialogue box, I enter the login keychain password in the Password text box, and I click the OK button. Then, Safari proceeds as normal. This is extremely annoying, because it happens almost every time that I launch Safari.
This only started to happen after I upgraded on Monday to Mac OS X Leopard version 10.5. During the Leopard upgrade, I had problems with the keychain passwords, and so I then upgraded again with the new "Login and Keychain Update 1.0". But, the problems with Safari forgetting the login keychain password continue.
The strange thing is that there is NO option in the dialogue box to indicate that Safari should REMEMBER the password. The option does NOT exist, so I can NOT click the Remember box.
I also went into the Keychain Access utility and double-checked and confirmed that my First Aid preferences were properly CHECKED for "Synchronize login keychain password with account" and also "Keep login keychain unlocked". Both of these preferences options are checked. So, I can't understand why Safari cannot remember the login keychain password?
I have this exact same problem with the Mail application, as well.
And, it looks like many many people are having the same problem -- See the following link to related discussions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5679135&#5679135
Can anyone please help? -- When is Apple going to release a fix for this problem? -- Has anyone received any kind of acknowledgement from Apple that they are aware of this problem and that they intend to fix it?
    Please help !!!

I had the same experience and found a solution.
After the upgrade, I had a login keychain (the default) and my original username keychain. Both are in the chain of keychains, but since it has a choice, Mail keeps asking you to confirm.
I moved all the entries out of username into login, deleted username, and all is well.
Note that Keychain asks for your password on EACH ITEM that it moves, which can be tedious. So I changed the keychain password to a single character, just for the duration, then changed it back to something secure.
If, on the other hand, you don't have two keychains, then I can offer no suggestion.
