Every project gets corrupted

I have a new iMac i5, 2 gb video, 8gb ram and premiere pro cs5.5. Every project I create gets corrupted at some point, including backups and I end up losing all my hours of work. The footage I am using is from a Sony hd cx110. Help!

I'm having the same problem. I haven't changed anything other than my media drive getting pretty full. I'm moving some media to a portable drive at the moment.
I spent about 10 hours in a project and it was all going well ... then the project fails to fully reload. It appears to load, but the viewers are white and one of my four CPUs are running full speed. If I'm patient I can press play and wait maybe 10 seconds the I'll hear just the audio, no video.
Again, nothing has chaged except for the drive getting full and I'll report back on that in a second.
I WAS once able to copy the entire project from the bins folder, close premiere, open premiere, create a new project, and press CTRL v. Amazing, it worked.
Once.

My problem seems to be solved by making a new account.
Old account was made in Tiger and maybe there is some legacy/compability issues with accounts in .4 & .5.
This might also help others, if their accounts were made in Tiger.

  • ITunes Library.itl gets corrupted every time I restart my CISCO VPN enabled laptop.

    Hi,
iTunes Library.itl file gets corrupted everytime I restart my laptop.
I am using Lenovo T410 with Windows 7.
This is causing alot of problems as all my iPhone songs and apps get deleted after every sync.
    Please help.

    I have the same problem.
I have removed and re-installed iTunes. The music files are still intact but the library gets erased every time I restart the PC.
This means I have re-scan all my music files over and over again.
Also, an inspection of the iTunes directory reveals lots and lots of temp (iT*.tmp) files, all of them are about the same size as the iTunes library database (10mb in my case) so it looks like iTunes is not closing down correctly / writing the temp file back to the iTunes library (iTunes Library.itl)file.

  • Wpdomain.db file gets corrupted every other day

    Hello
Our secondary wpdomain.db database gets corrupted every other day. Right now we have up to five people connecting to it at one time using multiple instances of ConsoleOne. How many users can we have connect to it at one time?
    Chris T.

    Hi,
I guess I need to know what OS you are hosting the databases on. OES? Plain SLES? Sort of depends on what is serving up what and who is consuming it. But generally, you MUST disable opportunistic locking / client side caching on the CIFS connections used to access the domain databases. That is, no doubt, what is killing them.
    Two approaches:
    1. Fix the problem on the CIFS / SAMBA server side. Then client settings don't matter. Our domains are on pure SLES, not OES, and domains are shared via SAMBA. Clients incluse other SLES boxes, Windows clients, etc. So we nipped it in the bud by preventing it on the SAMBA server. If the server is using plain old SAMBA, the corresponding share section in /etc/samba/smb.conf should be set up similar to
    Code:
    [grpwise]
    comment = Transfer
    inherit acls = Yes
    path = /grpwise
    read only = No
    oplocks = False
    level2oplocks = False
You can configure some of these setting globally, but I like to specify them explicitly - then you know what is actually going to happen. And you don't mess with other shares exposed by the server where client side caching / op locks "might" be OK.
    2. You can also solve the problem on the CIFS client side ( in your case, the remote servers mounting the CIFS share ) by disabling oplocks:
    cat /proc/fs/cifs/OplockEnabled
It will report "1" meaning its IS enabled. That's bad! You can disable Op Locks easily:
    echo 0 > /proc/fs/cifs/OplockEnabled
Generally, under high load, the CIFS client will fall apart with this enabled. The number of pending locks piles up and all the client does is service the locks. We have web server fronting a common CIFS share, you NEED to do the above to the systems mounting CIFS shares.
Doing either or both ( on all systems hosting / consuming the shares ). I don't trust people to set up their clients correctly, so I opted for #1. The next day the problems stopped, order was restored to the Universe.
( This is analogous to, on Windows clients talking to Netware, File Commit = ON, File Caching = OFF, Level 2 OpLocks = OFF, etc. )

    Hi
I am facing a very difficult and weird problem ..plz help !!!
I am curently working in a project which has different phases of testing. While migrating my reports from Dev environment to SYS, I had to change the database connection in the Universe to SYS.After doing so,I point the reports (webI reports) to this new universe.
All my report variables are getting corrupted and automatically appended with a " " in the formulae of the report
for eg if my report variable is =if([dimension object];" ";" ")
the variable becomes "=if([dimension object];\" \";\" \") "--- plz note that a \ gets appended in front of the " within the formula!!!
This problem repeated when i had to migrate the reports from UAT back to SYS!!!
I have a report which is fullly hard coded(business wants so!!) and has some 300 report variables... so I cannot manuaaly edit them in each migration
Can you please help me if you have a work around for this issue??
I read in BOB that its a BO bug,it it true?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot for ur quick reply
The objects in the universe are just teh same,I just import the existing universe, change the connection to SYS and then export it to a new folder.
Its behaving weird, yesterday i createda  new folder instead of using the existing SYS folder for universe,i exported the universe.NOw I pointed the report with 300 variables to this new universe and it was working fine... and then when i did the same for the remaining reports..all got corrupted like stated before... i had to manuaaly go and esit every variable cause it was urgent for me to migrate to SYS.
I was saved cause my report with large variables got saved!!!

  • ExFAT volume often gets corrupted

    Hey,
I am using 3 volume setup on my 750GB HD. First one for OSX (HFS+), second for data (exFAT) and last one for Windows 7 (FAT32 -> NTFS).
Well I am using this setup for over year now and my exFAT partition gets corrupted like every 2 months and this time Disk Utility couldn't even repair it.
When it gets corrupted Windows or Mac cant recognize it but Macs Disk Utility usually repairs it. This time it didn't.
Does anyone have same experience? Can it cause some application?
It looked like it's cause by Xcode, but I started saving my projects to Mac volume, but obviously it was one of the apps it caused or it wasnt problem at all.
Can I do something about this or is there another way to share data between those 2 (locally)?

Had some issues with corrupted exFAT partition that Disk Utility said it couldn't repair.

Looked like crazy on the net for solutions but couldn't find any. I started to poke around in the terminal and ran this:
    fsck_exfat -d disk0s4
The -d flag is the debug flag and it gave me hope. I saw all my files flashing by and after a while I got this question:
Main boot region needs to be updated. Yes/No?
I hesitated for a long while but realized that I didn't have any other option. I picked yes and it said that it repaired the drive. It didn't appear on the desktop though. I ran fsck_exfat again and now it said that the disk was ok. I fired up Disk utility and tried to repair the drive there once again and now disk utility could repair it! =)))
Just wanted to share this lil advice since it seems common that exfat partions gets corrupted in OSX. I'm running 10.8.1 on rMBP here. I have no idea why Disk Utility doesn't call fsck and instead says that the disk can't be repaired. The tools for repairing it is in the OS and apparently and obviosusly it was fixable (...in my case).

  • How can I tell if my Premiere Pro project is corrupt?

    Hello All
Referring this question I posed to Adobe on Twitter here o the request of Kevin Monahan
The reason I ask the question above is because I am often working away in a project and everything is moving great and then suddenly I get a crash and Premiere Pro dumps me out.  I then go back in and it gives me the message saying that it needs to open a copy of the project I was working on and to give it a new name.  Normally I just add a sequential number and open it up.  Generally this works well as I don't seem to lose much in terms of work but I do seem to suffer as the project becomes slower and unresponsive at times. Often I will click along the timeline only to have to wait for about 5 seconds whilst the appliation/Mac catch up.  Surely this can't be right?
Also, the crashes often happen regularly and tends to be when I add the Multiband Compressor or am selecting ends of clip by holding down cmd whilst selecting clips.  This last project the application crashed about 4 times.
Are the issues I am seeing a result a corrupt project and how would I spot a corrupt project?  Is it generally the case that the bigger the project gets then the slower it will work? I don't think my edits are particularly long winded or complex so I can't understand why I am seeing this instability and poor performance.  I am however running a 2013 MacPro with Dual D700 GPUs so perhaps it is the long standing issue that this machine has been having with Premiere Pro since OS 10.9.3.
If anyone can help then I' be grateful.  I did do a short screen video showing and talking through my problems. I can post if anyone thinks that will help.
    Best wishes
    Alex

    Thanks Winston...
    Mid 2010.
Time to return the AppleTV!  Man, frustrating that the checkbox option for mirroring is there in Display Pref's when the model isn't new enough...I understand it's an OS setting, but could easily check the same attribute as displayed in About This Mac and hide that checkbox!!
    Oh well
Anyone know the exact/technical reason why Mid 2010 is not compatible and Early 2011 and newer is?  Seems like, again, if the option for mirroring is there in display pref's it should work?

  • Files get corrupted in Lightroom 4, through 4.4

So I was going to comment on one of the other posts about the corrupted files but it was soooo long I decided to start a new one.
This should give me a hint that it is not HARDWARE....
To start with I am shooting a Canon 5d mkIII and RAW(.CR2) files
A slight kink in everyones generic answer that it is a hardware issue; I reproduced this on two computers using the same .cr2 files copied from the same original downloaded files.  Lightroom corrupted files on import on both computers.
Also to test the answer it was corrupt before it went into Lightroom.  I always copy the raw .cr2 file to my laptop and then to a external drive from the laptop directory, not from the compact flash.  I looked at a .cr2 file with Photoshop and it was fine.  Then I imported that same file with all of the other .cr2 files in the directory into Lightroom 4 and it was corrupt along with many others.
My disappointment is that when I tried to open the same .CR2 file, that was fine a moment earlier with Photoshop, it too was corrupted.  I thought Lightroom was non-destructive to the original file.
I deleted that .cr2 file and restored the backed up file that was a copy of the original and imported that single file into Lightroom and it was now fine.
    Sorry but not acceptable.

    Replying to myself:
I digged into some reverse-engineered CR2 specifications on the net and found 5 things:
Canon uses a lossless compression in their CR2 files. So that suspicion was confirmed.
The algorithm does not seem to have changed substantially in later models. So that suspicion was not confirmed.
Before doing the compression, the raw photo is divided into vertical slices. Usually 2 or 3 slices, it seems, though I am not sure). This seems to explain why we sometimes see a corrupt lower quadrant of a Canon photo.
According to one source, the image is "interlaced" before compression, so all lines with RG information are kept together, as are all lines with GB information. Based on that, I would expect to see photos with every second line corrupted, if we could see the photo prior to demosaicing. But since we only see the photos after demosaicing (which involves combining information from several lines), that is not really relevant.
The compression algorithm used is Lossless JPG which uses Huffmann encoding for compression. This seems to me like a method which has good corruption potential.
The long version of my reasoning for the corruption potential of Lossless JPEG + Huffman encoding (just skip it if it is too boring):
I have heard about Huffman encoding many times before, but I have never bothered to find out how it works. This thread was a good reason to bother, so I finally did it.
Lossless JPEG works by predicting the value of each pixel based on the pixels above it and to the left of it. The difference between the actual pixel value and the prediction is then stored as a prediction error. The original pixel values can then be thrown away because the raw decoder can precisely reconstruct them from the prediction errors and knowledge of the prediction method used.
This means that it is only necessary to store the prediction errors in the file. Even though the original pixel values will be very different, a lot of pixels will have the same prediction error (close to zero). This makes it easier to compress the prediction errors than the original pixel values.
The prediction errors are compressed using Huffman encoding which works sort of the same way as international dialing prefixes (this is a comparison I have come up with myself):
There are more than 100 countries in the world, so we sometimes have to use a 3 digit prefix. But we don't use 3 digit prefixes all the time. For example, USA is +1 and Denmark is +45. So when you punch for example '+4512345678', how does the phone system know that the international prefix part of the number is exactly +45 and not +4 or +451?
The answer is that one international prefix is never used as the first digits in another international prefix. So +10, +11 ... +19 and +100, +101 ... +199 are never used as international prefixes because USA already have used +1, and +451, +452 ... +459 are never used because Denmark have already used +45.
Huffman encoding works in the same way. Instead of having a lookup table with dialing prefixes of different length and their corresponding countries, it has a lookup table of bit codes of different length and their corresponding prediction error. Each bit code can never be used again as the beginning of a longer bit code so the encoder will always know where one bit code ends and the next begins, even though they are of different length.
This means that the well predicted pixels can be stored with just a few bits instead of storing them as a full 14 bit value. Just like USA can be dialed with +1 instead of using full 3 digit code of +001.
But it also means that decoding will fail miserably if just one bit is switched. Switching one bit in a bit code will usually mean that the length of that bit code will be misinterpreted, and that means that the decoder will look for the start of the next bit code in the wrong place. So from that point in the bit sequence, we can expect everything to go wrong.
(Sorry to be so long winded. But reading about Huffmann is like getting a new tool - I just have to use this knowledge for something.)

  • Images getting corrupted in Lightroom 4.2

I have experienced this aswell. As mentioned in:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4138626
    and http://forums.adobe.com/thread/948417?tstart=0
My lightroom has after two weeks of playing with a fully working raw file corrupted it.
This is what the photo looked like originally http://500px.com/photo/14737987
As of today, I tried to reexport it with a diffrent watermark, the raw file corrupted. It exports a corrupted jpg and when I delete the .xmp metadatafile and try to import it again (same happens with it now when trying to import it to photoshop) the raw file now renders as corrupted in all software.
I have tried every possible way to reimport it, its just plain broken. If this should happen to my whole portfolio I would cry.

Here's evidence that LR is rewriting an entire JPEG file when I add metadata and do Save Metadata To File, just as Rob has described.
First, I imported a JPEG in which all the metadata had been stripped using Exiftool.  Exiftool's dump shows that the image data starts at around hex offset 10:
Immediately after importing, I did Save Metadata To File, and the image data now starts at around hex offset 0cf0:
Next I added a short caption and did Save Metadata To File, and the image data now starts at around hex offset 0dd0:
I used the Microsoft Sysinternals' Process Monitor to trace file reads and writes to the JPEG file while LR was doing Save Metadata To File, and that confirms it is writing the entire 1 MB file:
Obviously, if there's a hardware fault anywhere in the path from the disk to memory and back, the contents of the image data could get corrupted.
And just as Rob has patiently explained, the fact that the file could get rewritten doesn't constitute any criticism of LR.

  • When forwarding Word or PDF Files they get corrupted

I have several users that when they forward either a word document of a pdf file they get corrupted.  If I forward directly from Outlook (2007) they are perfectly fine.
Anybody know what is happening?  We tend to send a lot of word/pdf files.
    Thanks

Okay, let me be specific here.
    I have:
Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 fully installed and licensed to this computer.
I also have an older version of Robohelp 7 installed.
Both have all the updates done.
    The machine also has:
    MS Office 2003
and the updated Adobe Distiller program.
What I want to do is to "print" - IE, generate - a Word document version AND a PDF version of my current Robohelp 8 project.
(Ignore this part, because this is not the issue. The generation of the files is the issue. Nothing else. The block, and the problem is that I cannot get Word or PDF files to generate from Robohelp 8.)
What I will do with this is convert the Word doc BACK to Robohelp 7, AND import the Word doc in FrameMaker.
(But again, we do not care about what I'm going to do with the files. The end result is not important. What is important, again, is:)
I cannot "print" - IE, generate, a Word document AND/OR a PDF version of my current Robohelp 8 project from the generate dialogue box.
I'm hoping that this clarifies the issue, since there are no add-ons to what I'm trying to do here. I'm not dancing the angels around the head of the legacy pin, I'm not trying to open a R8 in R7, I'm not trying to cure cancer or shoot a bulls-eye at 1,200 feet.
I am trying to "print", IE, generate, a Word document OR a PDF from my current Robohelp 8 environment and cannot do so.
(Sorry for the excessive description, but it looked like we were branching off into realms that weren't the problem at all.)
In response to Peter - I did try a sample project, and the same issue occurs. When I click "Printed Documentation" in either of the projects, a popup comes up that says "Parameter is Incorrect". This is an unmodified item that I'm opening - stock off the installation.

  • Adf-config.xml file gets corrupted

    Hello,
I have observed in many instances that adf-config.xml file get corrupted in the sense it looses (wipes out) mds conenction string and as a result the projects won't compile or you will not be able to fecth anything from MDS like wsdls ect. Making this file as read only or backing it up seems to be the work around. I have seen this in 11.1.1.3.0 version.

In your adf-config.xml the password property is not properly closed and your property name is incorrect.

  • Dock gets corrupted on Iintel machines/10.4 after restoring from disk image

    Hi all,
I run a script at home that creates an image of my boot disk every night (it reboots into another volume, runs SuperDuper! and boots back into boot volume. I also use master disk images to deploy Macs at work. Every time an image is restored the dock becomes a mess, it looks something like this:
    http://a-world.net/files/dockmess1.jpg
...random icons pointing to random files, example, this is what used to be a Firefox icon, not:
    http://a-world.net/files/dockmess2.jpg
This only happens on Intel Macs and started to happen recently after one the system updates. It wasn't happening under 10.4.6 I think but it started some time after.
What's even weirder is that restoring com.apple.dock.plist from backup (Retrospect) doesn't seem to help, the prefs get corrupted anyway. Is there any other prefs file responsible for maintaining links betwen items in the Dock and originals? By the way desktop shortcuts do not get messed up, only the dock.
Any ideas? This is very annoying. Thanks.

This behavior is happening to quite a few of our computers. What they all have in common is that they are Intel Macs that have been upgraded to 10.4.10. I have verified on our test boxes that the problem does not occur with 10.4.9, then appears in 10.4.10. Don't know why.

  • "Preparing video for display" ****!! Project get's stuck before opening completely

I've been working in this project for almost two years. Now, I'm doing the subtitles in Final cut from Spanish to English for almost two months now, almost half way through the movie so I get a lot of renders done everyday. Since last Week my projects get stuck at "Preparing video for display". I usually go to the Autosave Vault, for some reason one of the project open, and I start working again from the hour or two of work I lost. But, whenever the projects get's to Autorender, the same message displays again, and the damned beachball appears and all goes to ****. I can't get anywork done, I've lost a lot of hours worth of work and I'm facing a deadline. I've tried trashing the preferences, but nothing. Best to all of you.

My guts are saying that you've a bit of an unstable installation going on, causing the instability... the fix is to perform a clean install and try working with that. You can build a new startup disk on a firewire drive or on another internal drive or partition, leaving your current startup disk alone... safest way to test this hypothesis... I'd also not install Lion if you're going to run FCP 6. Best setup for FCP 6 is likely Leopard or Snow Leopard. In reality it can be argued that the version of FCP that you are running will run the best on the OS it was written for in the first place.  Which, for FCP 6, is likely 10.5.x.
Here's a list of what is known to be a stable setup with every version of FCP: http://www.digitalrebellion.net/blog/posts/recommended_quicktime_and_mac_os_conf igurations_for_final_cut_pro.html
