Every single clip needs to be rendered suddenly

Hello, I am a photographer that has now been thrust into shooting a lot of video due to my 5dmkii. I have been converting my footage with mpeg streamclip to pro res 422 and then editing it in fcp with no problems. Suddenly, final cut is requiring me to render every single clip I drop into the timeline. I can't figure out what is going on for the life of me. Oh, I have a macbook pro with 6 gigs of RAM too so its not my computer (that I know of). Thanks for the help!

Hi there - we need more info than just your hardware.
When you say "no problems" in reference to how you were editing before, have you changed something since then? Camera? Files?
What are your sequence settings? If they do not match your clip settings, they will need to be rendered.
When you drop your clips in the timeline, does it ask to convert the sequence settings to match the clip settings? If it does, you should click "yes".
Are you sure you are conversion settings are correct?
Let's start with those.

Does it not play at all or cannot you get the audio in the timeline?
Did you copy the entire card to the hdd and then imported the file via the Media Browser?
Did you source patch the audio tracks?

  • Do clips need to be rendered before exporting project to video camera?

I am in the process of exporting an Imovie project back to my video camera for storage on a tape. When I start the export process I get a message that says clips need to be rendered prior to exporting. When I click the button to render clips Imovie goes through the process of rendering the clips and after several minutes the Imovie project starts to export to the camera and runs for about 2 seconds and the Imovie quits.
Imovie also gives the option of not rendering the clips.
Do i need to render the clips before exporting them to my video camera?
iMac4,1   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Intel Core Duo, 1.83 GHz

Does the project reside on an external drive? If so, make sure the drive uses the Mac OS Extended disk format, which iMovie requires.

The crashes are most likely occurring because of external factors, not because of a flawed rendering routine. These can include the wrong disk format, QuickTime add-ons and obsolete iMovie plug-ins.

Do i need to render the clips before exporting them to my video camera?
It may depend on what type of clips they are. If they are photos imported with the Ken Burn checkbox turned OFF — which are not rendered as they are imported — iMovie will ask to render them. Do NOT allow iMovie to render the photos at this time for there's a bug that adds lots of jaggies to the images, reducing their quality.

  • New project: Every clip -- even the very first clip -- needs to be rendered.  Why?  I have no effects applied.

I just started a new project.  Every clip -- even the very first with NO effects - has to be rendered.  Why?  I have used this exact same clip in other videos and had no problem.  I tried other simple (no effects) clips and they all do the same thing.  Could it be something in my initial project settings? This is for a funeral and I do NOT have time to wait till Sunday when Adobe Chat Help opens up again.  PLEASE HELP!

So, perhaps I'm missing something.  Yes, dragging a clip to "new item" corrects the problem for that clip only, but trying to add another other clips to that same sequence results in new clips still needing to be rendered.  Dragging additional clips to "new item" simply opens a new sequence which I don't need.  I need all the corrected clips on the same sequence.
    1) How can I get corrected clips on the same timeline?
    2) How can I keep this from happening on future projects?  I did not change anything from previous projects.  I simply opened a new project & named it.  I'm not sure where things went so wrong.
I know this sounds tacky, but I have gained about 2 days to complete this project since they have decided to cremate rather than bury.  Still need answers quickly though.  THANK YOU!

  • Why do ALL of my clips need to be rendered??

    Hi.
I just captured a mess o' clips and when I drag them to the timeline I get the dreaded red line up top. Why? Why does all of my footage need to be rendered? I haven't added any effects at all.
    FCP 5.1
    MBP 2.16
    OS X.4.6
Thanks for any advice that you may have for me.
    Tom

Because your sequence and clip settings don't match. Often, this results from changing the Easy Setup AFTER creating a new project. The new project creates a new sequence, which is then in the old preset.
After selecting the desired Easy Setup, create a new sequence and edit your clips into that sequence, and you should be Good to Go.

  • How Come Some Clips Need To Be Rendered

    Hi,
I have several projects open, one is from standard def DV tapes and the other is from a FCP learning tutorial. When doing 3 way color correcting the project from the DV tapes needs to be rendered after changes while the tutorial files don't need rendering. I looked at the source file types for both and they are Quicktime movies. Why does one need rendering?
    Thanks in advance.

Quicktime is just a wrapper that contains many many CODECS. What is the codec of the tutorial footage? If you mix the formats on the timeline, one format won't require rendering, where the format that is different will.

  • Help: all my capturing clips need to be rendered. why?

I have successfully captured all my video clips from mini dv tapes in a Canon XM1 into final cut pro 4. However if i place any of these clips onto the timeline they need rendering before they will play. This has never happened before, usually only transitions etc need rendering. what have i done wrong? please please help, this is very urgent!

yes it does (your sequence settings are diffrent from your clip settings)
you'll have to open all your clips, and set them to zero -there is a quicker way in your sequence settings, but I'm not to sure wihch setting to go for.
Actually... you'de probably be better off trying to chance the sequence setting to match your clip setting - go to: sequence/settings and play around there.
let me know how you get on. I'm going to see if I can get the correct setting figured out for you to

  • Stop automatic fades every single clip...

I cut a lot of my clips up in the project window and each one is given a half second fade in/out. That's just annoying. It's fine if the scene actually changes, but if it's the same scene a few seconds later I don't want a fade. Is there a way I can stop it doing that all the time?

I don't know how to change the default, but you can make a global change in your project.
First, pick a clip. Go to Audio Inspector Tab and set it like you want it.
Then, with that clip selected, select EDIT/COPY.
    Then, EDIT/SELECT ALL
    Then, EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS/AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS

  • Everything was great until I exported my Imovie (09) and then every video clip that was stabilized was suddenly shaking like crazy.

I have a project that appears to be great until I export to either .M4A or .Mov and then everything looks like the cameraperson has had some serious seizures.  What is odd is that the stabilization works great while working on the project in Imovie.  Can anyone help?  The content was captured using a Samsung HD video camera (flash memory).

    Sorted.
I found a post elsewhere and the suggestion was to delete the projects folder. Then launching IMovie, the software creates a new projects folder, and I moved the projects in one by one, until I found the one that crashed it.
I suspect your solution would have been quicker however!
I just wish IMovie was less sensitive and just told me what the problem was!!
    Thanks again.

  • Every clip needs rendering once in timeline

This is a new problem. I dealt with my last short project by constantly rendering. This is a bigger project, so I really need to get back to the old way of doing things where you can drop a clip into the timeline and it's ready to go, and you can slide it this way and that without re-rendering.
Why are all my clips needing to be rendered when I place them into the timeline???
    Thanks.

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeline
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • AVCHD clip's always needs to get rendered when inserting. Media info about .mts file attached

    Hi
I have previously discussed this problem in another thread. I have .mts files that I insert in a project (project preset set to PAL-AVCHD Full-HD)....when inserting i always need to render the clips and as many peole have mentioned, this should not be needed, instead PrEl should take care of this by itself..and it really sunds weird if it doesnt...
So, why is this happen...i get so frustrated when I have to re-render the clips all the time, since also - it takes a looong time for jsut tiny tiny clips ? I posted the hardware specs I have two days ago in this same forum, and it looks from the answers I got that this hardware should be enough for not having to wait several minutes to jsut add a 6 second AVCHD clip ?
Please look at below image that is a screenshot from MediaInfo about the details for my .mts file I'm trying to add - resulting in new rendering needed, plus the fact that it takes about 5 minutes to render it ??
Please, suggestion or solutions ? I'm lost...I got feedback yesterday that this is a known problem with both PrEl 8 and PrEl 9 ..that AVCHD clips needs to get rendered manually when they are added....i.e a known bug in these versions ?? Any experience ? How can I move forward, I have problems to understand that such bug should exist without anysolution and/or workaround since I see this as a feature that MUST work for people not getting crazy :-)

    Hi Neale
many thanks for your time trying to help me out.....
Please see my answers below in bold, hope you and/or someone else can help me with some further answers
Are you opening a project created in PRE8 with PRE9? If yes, that is the most likely cause of the problem. Create a new PRE9 project and see if the same problems after you import the clip and save the project. No, I'm only working in Pr 8.0 - I have this problem as soon as I add a clip..not that into the different formats, just know that the best possible output from my camera (Canon HF10) should be AVCHD..thats why I added teh detailed info from "MediaInfo". can you tell from that info I'm correct, i.e that the .mts file is really AVCHD as expected ? Just to help me confirm that. So, I havent been using PrEl 9.0...another person two days ago told me that PrEl 9 also got similar problems as I reported for my PrEl 8.0 ?
When you first added the clip to your project did you receive any messages that the file was not suitable for the format? If so did you accept the offered preset? If you didn't start a new PRE9 project and this time accept the offer. No, I did not get any messages as all about the format. Occasionally I get something like "Do you want to fix the quality in the clip" ..cant recall exactelly what the message is, but its for sure nothing about the format
When you put it into the project, did you have a red line running the length of the timeline? If you do then your preset is not correct (this is purely PRE9. PRE8 always required rendering AVCHD footage).Yes, always when I add a clip I get this red line. If I understand everything correctly this means I have to hit ENTER key to create a preview file....thats my second problem - as soon as I do that, it renders the clip very very slowly although I should have prety good hardware (According to spec posted two days ago).
So, as a summary. Do you think that buying Premiere Elements 9.0 should get rid of this problem when adding AVCHD ? If that is the case, I feel I just want to be sure about this and that I will not experience the problem again. Can it not just be some setting that is, by default, not correct in Premiere El 8.0 that is causing this or is this really a known bug without fixes available from Adobe?
    Best Regards
    Helmut

  • Do you really have to render every single HDV clip?

    Don't remember reading that anywhere...
Starting a new project that someone handed over to me with projects and media all ready to go.
I open up the timelines and eveery clip needs to be rendered in the timeline and the source media plays back all clunky in the viewer.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just HDV editing?
    As always, thanks in advance....

This project was a freaking nightmare. I thought it would take three weeks, it took thre months.
He capture the footage wrong somehow, I ddon't know, but no matter what settings I changed I couldn't avoid the rendering.
Tp top it all off, he captured the audio directly into Pro Tools so it was 1988 all over agin, synching up the audio files with the video.
I am giving the director the final dvd next week after I finish the menu. The editing is all done THANK GOODNESS!!

  • Audio needs to be rendered every time

I did a project this week which required me to change my sequence settings to PAL, 44.1KHz audio. I since changed back the sequence settings to easy setup DV NTSC, so I shouldn't have any problem with new sequences. Even so, any time I drop a QT movie into a new sequence, the audio needs to be rendered just to hear it. These are movies that play fine in QT. They are DV-NTSC movies with the audio rate at 44.1KHz. The latest is a project from iMovie; the audio rate on that project is 32KHz. Any setting suggestions so that I no longer need to render every imported clip?

I understand. I have the sequence settings at easy setup NTSC. When I bring in CD tracks, they are 44.1kHz and I recognize that they will eventually need to be rendered, but they should at least play and not give me a red bar.

  • Newly Captured Clips Need Rendering--why?

I've seen similar questions posted about things needed rendering when it seems they shouldn't...but none of the answers seem to help me and none are exactly the same, so...
    Here's my dilemna:
I've been using Final Cut Pro on a G4 Power Mac with a 1.25gig processor and 1 gig of RAM and it's been fine for my purposes. Even though I've been using high def video, newly caputres clips don't need rendering until I start working with them (as they shouldn't).
BUT...I've tried installing the same software on both a MacMini and a PowerBook G4 (each having the same speed processor) and with both alternate computers a newly captured high def clip will appear with a red bar over it, I won't be able to preview anything but a still, and rendering will take about 7 minutes per half minute of video. My question is why?
It's primarly the PowerBook I want to get going on Final Cut so I can edit wherever I am, but I can't work with it if I need to render every fresh clip. Two small differences : (1) My PowerBook only has 756 megs of RAM as opposed to a full gig on the PowerMac. (2) I'd done other projects on the PowerMac with FinalCutExpress before getting Pro, so maybe there was a codec already installed on that one that I need on the PowerBook.
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. It seems like what works with one 1.25 gig processor should work the same with similar chips on different computers, but it doesn't...

Quite right, David (and Jerry). My problem was indeed a matter of the setup not matching the formatting of the clips. I had a hard time understanding that this was the problem because EVERYTHING seemed to work on the PowerMac and NOTHING on the PowerBook (or MacMini which I set up with FinalCut to see if the PowerBook was to blame.)
I guess it was just a matter of being lucky that the PowerMac's setup was correct for what I was doing and unlucky that the PowerBook's was not. Anyone experiences similar confusion may also be helped by a Shane tutorial I found in a separate thread--

--it broadened my understanding of setups and sequences. Thanks, all.

I see people from different ages at my work and every month I need to count how many people from each age I've seen that month. How can I do to give the entries to numbers in a single cell and make numbers count them for me? The final result would be a spreadsheet telling there were 8 people from 20 to 39 years old, 14 peolple from 40 to 59 and so on...

This appears to be an 'input form' using 'Radio Buttons' to select the category. Neither of these features are supported in Numbers '09.
You can input the data on one table and summarize it on a second table, but the input table will continue to hold data for each event.
And by using the Reorganize button, you can hide all but two rows of that table to approximate the appearance and performance of an input form.
Here are the two tables, Data on the left and Summary on the right. Notes below.
The grey-filled columns in both tables are 'working' columns, and may be hidden (as shown in the image below).
    Data table:
D1 contains the word "TRUE" (in capital letters). (This row is always shown.)
D2 is empty, or may contain any value except "TRUE" (This row is always hidden under the Reorganize rule.)The rest of Row 2 of this table requires the data shown: a number outside the range to be counted (999), and two checkboxes, both checked.
D3 (and filled down the rest of column D):   =AND(OR(B2,C2),NOT(OR(B3,C3)))
The formula returns TRUE only for the first unused row in the table (ie. the first row for which neither checkbox has been checked)
    Summary table:
Column A contains labels for the age ranges to be counted.
Column B contains the same information in the form necessary for the formulas in columns C and D. They need a numeric value, and that value must be the largest acceptable value in the range to be counted.
C2 (and filled right to column D, then both filled down to row 5):
        =COUNTIFS(Data :: $A,"<="&$B,Data :: B,TRUE)-SUM(C$1:C1)
Two changes from the previous example:
COUNTIFS is used to separate the Native and Foreign counts as well as the age range to be counted.
The amount subtracted from each result is the SUM of the earlier results, and includes the text value in the first cell of the column (which is interpreted by SUM as a zero).
See note below regarding my earlier formula.
When the greyed columns are hidden and the checkbox in the Reorganize pane is checked, the two tables will appear as shown below:
Close the reorganize pane, and the 'data entry form' is ready to use.
To use, enter the age first, then check one of the boxes.
As soon as one box is checked, the row will be hidden, and the next (unused) row will be shown.
    Regards,
    Barry
Note regarding formula in my earlier post:
The earlier formula will give erroneous results as it subtracts only the count directly above it from its count of persons in the age range 0-n.
In E2 of that table, replace "-E1" with "-SUM(E1:E$1)
    Fill down to E8.
Ignore the instructions (in that post) following "Fill down to E8."
