every single song will pause at around 12 or 13 seconds.
This is only on the PC using iTunes, not on my iPod. There is a delay in response too while songs are playing. For example - if I am editing a song title and type it in, nothing will happen and then the letters I typed will appear a few seconds later. I don't think it's a memory prob - I have 512k- any help or experience is greatly appreciated.

I just fixed the problem...
I set my avast standard shield to normal and the delay instantly went away -
what WAS happening: at 10-13 seconds, ashserve.exe (part of my recently installed Avast antivirus) spiked to 97-99% cpu usage, which temporarily locked my computer as well as pausing the song.

Itunes duplicates every single song

A week ago I reinstalled the operating system on my computer, took the music from my ipod and placed it on my desktop. Then I downloaded iTunes and it automatically imported every piece of music on the computer. OK, I thought, but then it turned out Itunes had duplicated every single song, so now there's not 2000 songs, but 4000 on it! ***! desperately need some guidance. Thanks in advance!

I have a problem too - may be related to this. I downloaded 5 albums over the weekend, plus a few singles. Every one of them has at least 1 song that stops playing partway through, some as quickly as 5 seconds in. Looking at the file itself, the size seems right for a song of that length, and I got no errors during download, but out of the ~75 songs I purchased over the weekend, I have 10 (so far, still checking) that are incomplete

clearly i have a problem. it's just over a year old and has suddenly started to malfunction. tried resetting obviously to no avail. first i noticed the play/pause didn't work but can get around this, then noticed it wouldn't charge as normal - given 24hrs plugged into mains it only charge half way - and as soon as you use it all all it's in the red again. also about every 3rd song the music stops for about 3seconds - then resumes - it does this even when plugged into a power source. HELP i'm travelling in SE asia for the next 3 months and can't have it die on me as it functions as hard drive for my travel photos too!!

What I did was buy a mains charger from ebay,they cost about a £1 or £2
plus about £3 postage,it works great,at least now I dont need to use a PC to
charge it up i.e on holidays or at work.
P.S type this into the ebay search bar "ipod Classic mains charger"
then change to "lowest first" on the right of the page.

So this is annoying me to no end because I just spent $25 to sign up for iTunes Match and so far its wasted my time and given me nothing but a massive headache. This is obviously a major bug on the SERVICE END, not mine.
Starting with an empty iTunes library on my Mac, I began ripping my CDs in iTunes Plus AAC format the other night with the intent of matching & uploading my entire music library into iCloud for streaming & downloading to my iPhone 4S on the go. Simple in theory, right? After some basic tag editing -- changing genres, a simple alteration to a title here, deleting the composer there -- and then updating iTunes Match (Store > Update iTunes Match), I notice I'm getting duplicates of a bunch of my songs appearing on my iPhone. I haven't downloaded anything to the device, they're all just listed with the cloud icon next to them.
So I'm thinking, whatever, I screwed something up. I'm only several CDs into the process so I'll just delete the iTunes library and start over again. Shift + right click, delete everything. Do you want to delete these songs from iCloud as well? Yes. Update iTunes Match. There are 0 songs in iCloud. Okay.
The songs are still showing in my iPhone Music app. Strange. Swipe to delete does nothing, they're not on the device. They're pointing to files in the cloud that are either no longer there or somewhere that I cannot access anymore. Broken aliases. The album artwork still shows up, but playing the songs just kicks me back to the album menu. Navigating to Settings > General > Usage > Music shows me there is no data on the device. 0 bytes.
One thing I notice is that sometimes after syncing a handful of these broken songs will show up in a "Purchased" playlist on my iPhone within the iTunes browser -- I haven't purchased any music from the iTunes store, not one song -- and inspecting them with right click > Get Info reveals them as Stream files, not iTunes Plus AAC files.
Turning iTunes Match off and on again both from within iTunes and on my iPhone does nothing.
Syncing wirelessly or via USB does nothing.
Backing up and restoring my iPhone does nothing.
Double clicking the Home button and quitting the Music process, then opening it again does nothing.
Hard resetting the iPhone does nothing.
This is something that's happening with my Apple ID on the service end, not locally or on the user end. As long as iTunes Match is turned on in my iPhone settings, all of this broken music -- everything I've matched to iCloud and deleted -- shows up. I've done everything within the parameters of proper usage, and iTunes tells me there is nothing in iCloud after it updates but my phone keeps seeing crap that isn't -- or shouldn't be -- there.
I WANT to use iTunes Match, I just paid 25 freaking dollars for it, but its completely busted for me right now and I know ripping and matching some more CDs is just going to make it worse and populate my iPhone with an even bigger broken library. I just ripped and matched one more CD an hour ago without editing any of the tags, just let iTunes Match do its thing, and then after right clicking and following the prompts to delete the 18 songs both from both iTunes AND iCloud its still showing up on my iPhone. Busted like all the others.
Can we please get an update on this as soon as possible? This is driving me nuts and I don't know what else to do.

It's a slightly convoluted process.
Disable iTunes Match on your iPhone
Settings > Music > Itunes Match
Now, make sure you've killed the Music app by double-tapping the home button, and deleting the app there where it is running. Important step. The app should not be active.
Next step:
Settings > General > Usage (it takes a while to load) > then delete the Music app there
Power your phone down, and back up again.
Sync your music via iTunes like you always have ...
... and this should fix your problem.

All songs will pause, volume decreases when volume control hides.

!st Gen Touch. Running 3.1.2. Have already Reset (100x) and also completely restored iPod.
1. While playing any song it will mysteriously pause itself. Push Play it will play for seconds and then pause itself.
2. Volume is very low when volume bar is hidden. Once bar is visual it increases by itself. Also, getting the volume bar to be visual is often difficult.
3. Volume seems to be an issue with other apps as well. The volume will increase and then decrease in other apps it seems when you have a constant touch on the screen (but not all the time).
It appears to me these are new "features/bugs" in the newest version of software.
Any fixes?

I'm having exactly the same issues. It's frustrating as it seems to work if you hit it a bit, but then will randomly lose it! There must be others this has happened to. Does anyone have the answer?

Renaming every single song in itunes library after installing on new PC

I got a new latop and downloaded and installed the latest itunes on it. Switched my songs over via external hard drive. On my previous computer I spent one OCD filled weekend organizing every track with album, artist, genre etc. Well, when I got everything running on the new computer, it was the way it was pre- OCD weekend as if it had never happened.
Is there a way for me to change a setting, or redo the whole shebang without having to spend another obsessive compulsive filled weekend?

Are these songs in WAV format?
If so, WAV files have no tags to store inforrmation, All the info is in the iTunes library file.
Copy the entire /Music/iTUbes.folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer/
Open iTunes.
This is all you need to do.

How do I tell what songs have altered Start/Stop times (Under "Get Info-Options") without opening every single song.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, I'll change the Start/Stop times of my songs, and I'll forget which ones I've done this to. For me, this can be a hassle, due to the number of songs I have, and the actual amount I listen to my iPod. I'll admit that it's my fault, that when I'm making a ringtone or simply shortening a song temporarily, I'll almost definitely forget to change that shortened time back after I'm done. But that moment when you're listening to a song and it abruptly ends, especially in a place I don't have access to iTunes (and in that situation I usually forget before I get home, exacerbating the problem even further), it can be the most annoying thing ever for me. I don't want to deal with it any longer, though, so here's my question:
How can I view which songs have altered Start/Stop times, without needing to view the Info for each individual song? I can't select all songs and then select "Get Info", because if I do that it won't even show the Option. The only reason I'm here is because I tried to figure it out myself, for weeks on end, and have returned no valid options for solution. So can someone please help me?

Customize the Finder window toolbar, adding the Path icon to it. Select an item and click on the Path icon or, as you already know, add path to the window. There's also copypath.app available via the App Store.

How to show individual track information (like in the old iTunes) of a single artist (or that artist's album) without all the noise of every single other artist close in the alphabet?

The new iTunes has truly added extra visual noise.
I am trying to view a single Artist and the individual track information of that artist. This used to be how itunes was, you could click on a single artist and then the tracks would all have their various categories.
I can still see this but only in the "songs" category and in that I have to see every single song or artist alphabetically.
How do I simply see the artist, and that artist's tracks, as well as the different info about that track I want to see, such as "name, track #, time, year, genre, bit rate, kind, etc."
Please don't counsel me on what information I need to see, or suggest that I stop caring about this, or ask me why I want to see this various info.
It was simple and accessible in the older version and I would probably stop complaining to all of my friends about the latest version of itunes if I can see this old format.
Or... is there a way to re-download the old version? It's okay that you've made mistakes, every company makes mistakes, if I can revert to the old version that would be great.

Select the Songs tab, then under iTunes Menu select View then click Show Column Browser. You will see the familiar GENRES ARTISTS ALBUMS header, click on one artist and you will have only the artist's albums and songs showing in the window below with all the specific info you selected under View options. The video I am watching this guy is just dragging every line to make curves. And every anchor point is a corner. He is not switching back and forth between the pen and the anchor points tool, and he is not using the convert points tool. He draws a curved line and starts another straight line only to curve it with a click and a drag. It is super efficient, and I could save a world of time if I could figure out what he is doing.

my computer freezes every time i try to copy even a single song from a cd onto itunes. I've reinstalled itunes and still have the same problem. i read somewhere that you shouldn't have 'third party extensions' but don't know what what means. Can someone please help in a fashion that you might do for a child? Thanks oh so much!!

It may be the drive is set to PIO instead of DMA. I;ll try to descrabe in steps what to do to check this.
1) Goto control panel>system>hardware tab>Device manager
2) Double click IDE ATA controllers
3) Rightclick "Secondary channel" and hit properties this is usually the channel most CD ROMs are on, you system my vary
4) Goto the "Advanced settings" tab and see if it say PIO. If it does goto step 5,
5) Hit "Cancel" and back in the device manager where you see "Secondary channel" rightclick it and hit Uninstall
6) close everything and reboot the PC so windows will load the channel back up in DMA mode

Ipod will "pause" randomly in a song

My ipod nano will pause when i am liseing to it in a middle of a song and i will have to unpause it...even when i have it on "locked" it will still pause

Your iPod is probably 4th generation. New to generation 4 is a feature that pauses the iPod when the earbuds are disconnected. A nice feature except that some buds have plugs that are just a little wiggly in the socket and this wiggle can trigger the pause. You might try wrapping a wee bit of tape around part of the jack.
