Every thing that is wrong with the PRE's post!

I tried looking through the forums but my phone is refusing to cooperate so I have to place this thread here. Please feel free to move it to the appropriate forum later.
•The internet always seems to reload my pages making it impossible to hit the back button for it delets my previous pages.
•Sluggish response from every thing. Which leads to a locked phone.
•To often told "no room for new cards, close cards!"
•Email has been on the fritz telling me "it cannot connect to (insert)".
•Since the update(1.4) I can't pinch when using pdf files, so viewing size is compromised significantly.
These are the host of problems I can come up with in 15minutes. I'm sure I am likely to have problems with my video recording program, but I never used it.

  • Things that are wrong with GNU Java

I thought I'd start this topic for reference. Contributions and corrections welcome.
Things I've encountered or seen here over the years:
    1. Incompatible under Serialization.
    2. Incompatible under RMI.
    3. Swing support is either missing or incomplete.
    4. jni.h doesn't agree with the JNI specification (found this yesterday: dozens of 'const's missing on parameters, and jboolean and jbyte both map to the same underlying native type, unlike the real jni.h).
I suppose it might ultimately have been more efficient to start a topic 'Things that are right with GNU Java' ...

I can't agree with that. If anyone implements Java, for any reason, good or bad, they are supposed to get it right. IBM's Java exists and doesn't have these problems. And there are other vendors. There's only one 'vendor' with a majjor problem and that's what the thread is about.
GNU has got it so wrong with their 'Java' that I can't see how it can possibly pass the compatibility tests, so how they can get away with calling it Java at all is another mystery ... When you look at their offerings, GCC is really their only major success. Their original goal, a GNU kernel, was never finished ...
For the record, and the purpose of this thread, GNI Java ['supports most of the 1.4 libraries plus some 1.5 additions'|http://gcc.gnu.org/java/]. In other words they haven't finished 1.4 yet, which came out on Feb 13, 2002, and is now in end-of-life, which ['will complete October 30th, 2008'|http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/]. Let alone 1.5 which came out on Sept 29, 2004. Their target? ['GNU Classpath 1.0 will be fully compatible with the 1.1 and 1.2 API specifications, in addition to having significant (>95%) compatability with the 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 APIs'|http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/]. In other words 1.0 isn't out yet.

Apple does not repair iPhones, but will replace the entire iPhone for a flat fee; see the Service Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/
There are independent iPhone repair services that may be able to do a repair for less, though of course it depends on what's wrong with it. Do a web search for "iPhone repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPhone serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further support from Apple will be voided.
The iPhone 3G is pretty old now by smartphone standards, though, so you might want to consider putting your money toward a new, or at least newer, iPhone rather than spending to repair your current unit.
    Regards.

  • My mac needs to be updated...it tells me that it doesn't have any updates but i have several things that wont operate with the software it has on it....its has been several years since ive actually sat down to use this one so i know it is behind

desk top is seriously behind on software, i just wanna get it back up to date

You don't say what model of Mac Pro you have, but all will run 10.6, which is the base version required to run the App Store and progress to further versions. The first two models of Mac Pro (2006 and 2007) cannot go further than 10.7.
You can get a 10.6.3 retail DVD online at most vendors (eg amazon) and update to 10.6.8 after that using Software Update.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
    Also, according to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

The program is for replacement since Apple does not repair iDevices...you take your non-working or damaged iPhone to an Apple store genius bar, or send to Apple service, and they provide a refurbished unit as a replacement, for a fee, of course.  You will have to talk with Apple to see if you get all components or just the iPhone replaced.
With AppleCare+ you can have two out-of-warranty replacements for a cost of $49 each.

  • Hey guys, I'm having trouble matching the colour of the image back ground (white) with the pre-set colour selection. is there a tool that can help me? thanks

hey guys, I'm having trouble matching the colour of the image back ground (white) with the pre-set colour selection. is there a tool that can help me? thanks

Your description of the problem is not quite clear so I made certain assumptions. I hope I am rigtht. I believe you have a color patch such as this:
that you would like to place in an image area that has modeling in its white background. You do not want to lay in a flat color but rather to add a color and not lose the modeling or other background tone. The problem is, after making the selection, if you use Edit > Fill and set the Blending mode to Color, the white background remains white. The only colored background area may be an object's shadow or some similar area that is not pure white. (Image 2) It is an unsatisfactory result.
If that is an accurate description of the problem, consider this:
    Image 1: The original image
Image 2: Edit > Fill with the Blending mode set to Color. White remains white
Image 3: Mode changed to Lab Color. Edit > Fill with the Blending Mode set to Color. Then return to RGB.
(I would not normally use this green as a replacement color but since it is a Tiffany clock, I chose a light version of Tiffany's trademark color.)

I have this exact same problem. One solution is having your friends change their fake aliases on Facebook to their real bloody names, but I realise this is no easy fix.

When mac email changed to icloud a while ago i lost all my emails and things i have an email subscription to send emails but they do not reach the email that i updated with the same address any help?

If you purchased about 2 years ago new I am sure it is a Intel iMac. To find out what type of iMac you have just click on the Apple menu item in the finder and select about this Mac. I would check the ISP mail site and get the correct outgoing mail server info.

I had a similar-sounding problem with version 11.1.2.31 x64.  Every song I played sounded as if the speakers were being over-driven.
This problem was fixed after I installed the new verion: 11.1.2.32 x64.  I am using Windows 7, too.

  • RFE: Some issues with the Pre/WebOS coming from the perspective of a former Windows Mobile user, Part I

I just switched over to a Palm Pre from a Windows Mobile device a week or two ago.  Now, don’t get me wrong here—I really do like the Palm.  For the most part, all of those things that were buggy, slow and inconsistent with Windows Mobile just simply work on the Palm, and that’s a very good thing.  However, when a product is so good, it makes the problems stand out all that much more, and with a lot of the problems I’m finding, the decision making on the part of Palm that led to the problem is just baffling to me.  I am hoping that I am just missing something on at least some of these issues, but so far, I have a laundry list of the things/features/omissions that I just really can't understand.  Because I have 8 issues, I'm going to break these down into three separate posts, with a few days in between each.  So, here goes PART I:
    1)  You can't select/manage multiple e-mails or text messages?  This is a pretty big problem, as I very consistently need to mark dozens and dozens of messages as read and then delete them, and swiping them off the screen one at a time just doesn't cut it.  Not only is it slow and painfully cumbersome, but it leaves them all marked as unread back in Outlook.  This really needs to be fixed, and I cannot imagine that even one single Palm user would disagree with me on this.  Actually, I think my bigger concern is how the product got developed without this ability in the first place, especially when prior Palm offerings apparently had it.
    2)  WebOS forces you to sort ALL contacts the same way?  I have many contacts set up in Outlook to be sorted by last name, and many others set up to be sorted by company name.  I've done this because that is how I need them sorted--sometimes the individual is my focus, but I have their company listed, and sometimes the company is the focus, but I have an individual contact listed.  Outlook, and every other contact management app I've seen, recognizes this, and allows me to sort each individual contact in the manner that best fits that contact.  Unfortunately, WebOS apparently ignores the Outlook "File As" field, and makes me sort everybody the exact same way.  As above, I cannot imagine anybody disagreeing with me that this is an important fix, and also as above, I can’t figure out why this wasn’t simply done this way from the get go.
    3)  No scroll bars?  Okay, so scrolling by flicking with your finger obviously works better than scrolling with a scroll bar along the side of the screen, but let’s not forget the fact that the scroll bar performs another EXTREMELY important function aside from actually scrolling:  the scroll bar provides the user with instant feedback as to how long the list is and how far down the list the user has scrolled.  These are two extremely, extremely useful pieces of information, and they are completely missing on the Pre.  I tried to look through some applications on my Pre the other day (more on the problems with the app store below), and I had a list of probably 100 or 200 applications that fit my search criteria, and I scrolled, and scrolled, and scrolled, and never had any idea of any sort how far down the list I had gotten nor how far I had left to go—and that was extraordinarily frustrating.  Oh, and if I wasn’t able to finish going through the list in one sitting, guess what, I have absolutely no possible way to run the search again and quickly get back to the point where I left off, because I have absolutely no idea how far along I had gotten.  I have to say, this glaring omission makes using the Pre on anything but very short lists and websites, well, unusable.  Scroll bars are everywhere—they’re there in every single program or application I have ever seen when the data presented goes off the available screen area, and there is a very, very good reason for their overwhelming prevalence—a reason that has nothing to do with the actual act of scrolling.  I think this one is probably my biggest complaint with the Pre.
I will post the next few in a separate post, but these are my "top 3".  To be honest, most of these just really leave me scratching my head wondering “what were they thinking?”  The Pre is a great product, but obvious little shortcomings really stand out on a good product (can anybody say “where’s the cut and paste, Apple?”, which, by the way, is a mistake that MS is about to bafflingly repeat with WM 7).  I should note that it would be difficult for anybody to say that I suffer from "One True Way" syndrome when all of the things I suggest, if implemented, wouldn't detract from the experience of those users who don't want these features, but they would benefit those of us who do want them tremendously.  My "way" doesn't require a compromise of any sort for anybody--it merely requires adding features, and the people who don't want/need those features can simply ignore them with no ill consequence of any sort.  Sorry for the long post, but I’m hopeful somebody at Palm is listening.  And yes, I know that posting multiple problems in one post is not ideal, but these all have a common, intertwining theme, and I'm at least breaking them up somewhat.

I really like my Pre, but I understand what you mean about somewhat baffling omissions in features. I think the Palm has a winning platform already, they just need to focus on hunting down and destroying bugs for a few months. Honestly, most of the things the Pre is missing should be provided by third parties except they're hesitant to invest because the pre and pixi haven't sold like gangbusters compared to Android and the iPhone. But really, if the price keeps dropping on palm hardware and they keep launching on new platforms (due soon on att), I think we'll be looking at a different view in a few more months. I'd wager that Palm has sold a bit less than a million devices, add Att and you'll end up around 1.2-1.5. If they keep fixing issues and making current customers happy, then launch a nice phone the end of this year, they'll be in good shape. You don't need to sell 15 million units to have a viable platform, just enough of a mass to ensure people want to take a risk developing.
