Every time i click on a link on a google search, it redirects to the google homepage.

Whenever i google search and click on a provided link, either in the toolbar or on the actual google homepage, it redirects to the homepage. Google works fine on Explorer, so i know it's a firefox issue.

  • Every time I click on a link to open it in a new window, the new window is tiny and I have to resize it every time, does anyone know how I can stop it opening new windows so small?

I am using firefox 8.0.1 this only happens when I click a link that is automatically set to open in a new window, or when I choose to open a link in a new window. Firefox never remembers what I resize that window too.

Google search and other websites have a user preference that can be set to open a search result in a new tab or a new window, for users who are logged in to their website.
Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.

  • Every time I click on a link in safari, an ad page pops up

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013) and I am using MacOsX Yosemite edition. A few hours ago something's happened to my safari and almost every time I click on a link, an ad opens up in a tab. When I search something from the address bar, it uses a search engine called http://thesmartsearch.net/ in stead ıf gooogle. Although, I set it back to google from preferences, it automatically goes back to this smartsearch engine.  Also, streaming has slowed down, it feels like something is continuously running at the background and my fans are non-stop working right now. I'm scared if I have a virus or something. Could you help me solving this problem? Many thanks,
    Sinem

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

No; it means that the computer has adware. Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Block adverts appearing every time I click on a link?

How to block adverts appearing every time I click on a link? Whichever website I'm on, every time I click on any link, up to 5 new pages open trying to sell me something. Very annoying and time consuming to continually close them down. Any suggestions, please?

    1. Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
        http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting
        “Quit AdwareMedic”.
                   or
Remove the adware  manually  by following the “HowTo” from Apple.

    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari to test .

  • I am getting a the same popup video every time I click on a link

Every time I click on a link I get the same video that pops up?  Is there a setting or something to prevent this or do I have a more serious issue?

Clear Safari and restart the iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or quit Safari completely and reboot the iPad. Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Hangs every time I click on a link

It appears that every time I clicked a link in Firefox, it would just hang. It didn't matter which website I was going to, the second I clicked on something, it would hang. I even tried to ask a question about it here using Firefox and it hung when I clicked the "submit" button. This is my 57934th attempt to ask this question

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
Also, if you have some kind of security software installed which scans links like AVG Safe Search, AVG Link Scanner, McAfee Secure Search, McAfee Site Advisor, or some other kind of anti-phishing tool, try disabling it.

  • I can't get Firefox to open a new tab each time I click on a link or favorite. It keeps loading onto the current tab.

I went to Tools>Options>Tabs and entered a check mark next to the first entry, "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" but it still does not open a new tab each time I click on a link or one of my favorites. It used to way back in earlier versions of Firefox but hasn't for the past few iterations...am I doing something wrong or do I need to activate something else within Firefox?

'''''"I went to Tools>Options>Tabs and entered a check mark next to the first entry, "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" but it still does not open a new tab each time I click on a link or one of my favorites."'''''
That option only controls pages that would open in a new window based on the code on the website page you are visiting.
Firefox's default is to open a link or a Bookmark in the currently selected tab.
You have some options to have links and/or Bookmarks open in a new tab:
*middle-click the link or Bookmark (middle-click = press the mouse scroll wheel)
    *CTRL+left-click the link or Bookmark
*right-click the link or Bookmark and choose "Open in New Tab"
*install one of the following and set the options to automatically open links or Bookmarks in a new tab:

  • Every time I click on a link, an OLD version of Firefox keeps opening, I don't know how to eliminate the old version (I don't see it in the applications folder). This hasn't happened with any other upgrades to Firefox. Can you help?

This happens when I get an email with a link attached. Also, every single time I open up the NEW version, it defaults to the "welcome to Firefox 4" page. Is there a way to make it stop doing that too? Did I just download the new version too soon, before the bugs were worked out?
