Every time I click on anything on a page it opens it in a new tab. How do I make it stop?

That's pretty much it. Any link I click on opens in a new tab. For example anything on facebook: a new notification, clicking on pictures, clicking on the facebook icon to refresh the page. I can't click on anything with out it opening a new tab.

On FB, links to external sites usually open in a new tab or new window, but links within FB usually stay in the same tab.
Do you have any tab-related add-ons that might be changing how links work? For example, you can check your extensions on the following page. You may want to disable everything nonessential and restart Firefox to see whether that cures it.

I, too, have found Bridge very unstable. I find this to be extremely disappointing, seeing as it's literally the most expensive piece of software I've ever purchased for personal use. I've seen these two symptoms:
    1. When running in full screen mode, Bridge crashes periodically. This happened on Vista, so I blamed Vista (of course), but even after regressing to XP SP2, I see the same symptoms.
    2. Although I didn't see this on Vista, running on XP I see the problem described earlier in this thread, where clicking on a thumbnail displays the wrong image preview. When this happens the image displayed is one from a different folder! I solve the problem by clearing the cache, and it's OK for a while, but the problem keeps returning.
    3. Even when exiting cleanly from Bridge (using File->Exit), Bridge often forgets where I was working in my previous session. I need to re-navigate from the very top level directory down through the hierarchy to my photo directory.
Again, it's very disappointing to invest so much in a single software package only to see such basic operations malfunction.

  • Every time I click on something on a page that I have zoomed in on the new page's zoom setting is reset.

I like to zoom in in certain web site pages to make them easier to see/read but now that I've downloaded the newest version of Firefox every time I click on something on a page that I have zoomed in on the new page's zoom setting is reset. How can I fix this, it is so annoying!

    Zoom is domain specific.
    See this:

If you find that you are having to zoom on many websites, try the Default FullZoom Level extension and set a default zoom level:

No; it means that the computer has adware. Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Every time I click on Firefox icon, Bridge Base Online opens in a new window.

My wife plays bridge with this program. All of a sudden, a week ago, every time I click on the Firefox icon on the desk top the Firefox page opens and then immediately the bridge program opens. In order to use Firefox I have to open a new window. I have tried rebooting.

Please also see if changing the newtab url makes a difference.
    # In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
    # Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' to continue to the about:config page.
    # Type '''browser.newtab.url''' in the search box to find it on the list.
    # Double-click on '''browser.newtab.url''' and type in ''about:newtab'' in the window that pops up.
Restart Firefox and open a new tab to make sure the change was made. If there is any issues with plugins please also see: [[Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems]]

  • How do I stop spam tabs/new windows from opening constantly every time I click on anything?

Hi! I have been having this issue recently of new tabs and windows opening constantly on my MacBook whenever I click on whatever website. I mean, even when I was trying to write the question to post on this forum, a new window popped and opened in the back ... without me clicking on something related whatsoever! I read that it might be malware or similar stories, but nothing works, I don't seem to make them stop under any circumstances. Please help because I am sick and tired of closing unnecessary popping tabs and windows all day long. I use safari and I have a MacBook Air.

And ofcourse I found the answer as soon as I posted the question (doesn't it always happen that way?). I went to Preferences - General -  and checked the box "Close windows when quitting an application".

  • Every time I click a TXT or PDF file it opens the file and STILL opens the "Open" dialog box

I have several TXT files I have that track some info for me.  Used to be, like in any OS, I could just double click it and viola, there it is in the text editor.  Ever since Mountain Lion, I open it and it opens fine, then on TOP of that I get ANOTHER open dialog box from text edit with the finder window to let me pick a text file to open.
I ALREADY opened the file I want so i certainly don't need another unasked for dialog box to open every time.  Same thing with PDF's.  Apparently just about everything that opens with preview or text edit does this.
I must be missing something since this clearly shouldn't be default behavior.  Anyone have something somewhere I've missed that will stop text edit or preview from prompting me for a file location to open when I've already opened the file I wanted in the first place?
    Thanks for any insight.
    John

Anyone else hitting it, I finally tracked it to icloud.  Even though I was not using it for anything other than my IOS device backups, somehow it got flagged for "documents" as well.  Killed that and finally preview works as it should without bringing up unwanted open dialog boxes every time I open something.

  • When I click a link it just doesn't open. In a new tab or window the same link connects instantly.

On occasion when I click links in Firefox nothing happens. The connection doesn't seem to be made, I can click repeatedly, and still it doesn't follow the link. Then when I open a new tab, or window, and paste the same link, it goes instantly. Someone mentioned that this may be a Firefox addon problem. Is there any solution to this non-connecting problem I seem to be having?

Looking at your installed extensions, I would be guessing either the Free Download Manager plugin or Skype extension (last is unlikely as it's deactivated, but you never know..).
You can test if it's an add-on problem by starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] - if there is no longer an issue in Firefox Safe Mode, it is almost certain that one of the add-ons are at fault.

  • Whenever I visit youtube I get strange page errors when I click on a video or try to open something in a new tab.

Whenever I visit YouTube I sometimes have problems opening new tabs or clicking on videos. Sometimes when I click on a video all that shows is code and nothing else. Other times I click on a video and I get a window that looks like I'm trying to download the link. The window often says "You have chosen to watch... which is a: application/octet-stream from http://www.youtube.com What should Firefox do with this file?" It gives me the option to save file or open with. But, if I try to save the file or open it with a program it doesn't work. How can I make these glitches go away? This only happens on YouTube.

  • When I click on some links, Firefox tries to open a ton of new tabs... I have to force quit. How can I stop this?

See [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]
You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set that action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask'.

  • Every time I click a link in an email, it opens in Firefox instead of Safari. I want the links to open in Safari again. How do I make that happen?

I'm pissed. How dare you assume I want my emails to open with Firefox, and change the settings on my computer without my permission?!!!
How do I get my email links to open in Safari again?!
    I'm using a Mac 10.6.8 operating system

No. If you simply click on a hyperlink in pretty much anything, Safari will open since it is the default browser. The only option you have is tap and hold on the link, and then select Add to reading list. It will then be stored int eh reading list in Safari.

  • When I open Firefox, I'm prompted to create a profile, but every time I click the create profile button, the window opens and immediately shuts.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled mozilla several times. I've read online about looking for a profile.ini file, that file does not exist on my computer. Everytime I open firefox, the choose user profile box appears, and when I click create profile, a window opens and immediately closes.

If even the Mozilla folder isn't there then it is possible that Firefox already crashes before being able to create that folder structure.
Try to do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • TS3212 I have downloaded iTunes, but every time I click on the link it does not open. Why can I not open iTunes after downloading?

I have deleted old versions and uploaded the new version. Now that I have completed the install, I cannot open iTunes. I double click it on desktop and it shows thinking symbol for one second and doesn't open. I go through the start menu and it does the same thing. Help!! Please.

Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
    Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?
