Every time I save a project it creates a new file in my movie folder

Instead of updating the previous file a new one is created so I have numerous files of the same project and can't figure out which one to open. Things are getting more and more confusing the more I use my G4 since installing iLIFE '06. Can anyone help me try to get a handle on this?

Chris, my guess is you may be confused by one or more tilde files inside the project, a project file with a tilde (~) in its name.
If the project was begun in iMovie 4, the project resides in an iMovie 4 type-folder, not an iMovie 6 package. The folder lets you see the tilde file. For projects begun in iMovie 5 or 6, the project is a package instead of a folder. And you never see the tilde file, for the package looks like a file instead of a folder.
The problem is discussed here:

My guess is you're opening the wrong project file to re-open the project. So when you save, it's saving a new tilde file.
The whole issue is rather confusing. Check out the topic, and if you can't get it straightened out say more about what's going on there.
Karl
PS: If you haven't yet, create a new iMovie 6 project, add something to it and save. To look inside the package, Control-click on the project (in the Finder) and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu. You will see one tilde project file and one project file without a tilde. That's ALL the project files you should ever see.

While writing an E-Mail I may receive a call so I need to save the E-Mail. I click save and it creates a draft which is fine. I go back to add to the draft and must save again and it creates a new draft. Every time I save it creates a new draft rather than updating the old draft as it does on my other computer

Also, is there any way to assign a shortcut to save as project as it doesnt appear in the key commands window.
    Thanks....

Buy the 7.2 instead if you wanna upgrade
i'm not sure but i'm on 7.1.1 and that key command is in the list

drag your preference to the desktop then launch logic, then import it back in the logic assistance... to get your key commands and settings back

  • Quits every time I save!!!

Help every time I save my project the software just "unexpectedly quits" on me. (FCP version 5.1.4) (Mac G5 OS version 10.4.10). It's just quitting, I can't save.

You probably have a problem with a corrupted clip, sequence or render.
Open your autosaves (in the "autosave vault" folder) until you don't have the problem, and try to figure out what was the element that corrupted the project.
Hope this will work for you.

  • Time Machine has simply stopped backing up any new files. No items set to be excluded, No error messages.

I have a Macbook with OS X 10.6.8 and a 500GB external hard drive, which still has 208.5GB available. For some reason, Time Machine has simply stopped backing up any new files (documents, music, movies--anything). No items are set to be excluded from backups in Time Machine options except for the external hard drive itself. Also, no error messages appear, Time Machine seems to run just fine, but when I enter Time Machine, or look through the files on the hard drive, new files just aren't there. I am not very tech savvy, so I was not able to understand some of the answers people gave to similar questions on here. I did go to Pondini's website and followed as many troubleshooting instructions as I could understand (for example I did manage to do a full reset of Time Machine) but nothing changed. Do I just need to erase the entire backup drive and sart all over? If so, what will prevent this from happening again later on? Please help.

Your TM drive liekly stopped backing up because it hit a series of bad sectors on the drive, to eliminate this all new drives should be Disk Utility > Zero Erased (one step below 7x in Lion) before use.
Reducing bad sectors effect on hard drives
Diversify your backups with bootable clones and archives on DVD's etc so your prepared for anything, including using a PC.
only if you have too of course, but it happens, people just can't afford a Mac anymore.
Most commonly used backup methods explained
So make other backups, then Zero Erase teh TM drive and set it back up again and your problem should be resolved.
If not, then it's data corruption on your boot drive!
You'll know if it's data corruption on your boot drive, when you go to make the clone, it will hang too.

    What's happening ?
    Thanks in advance

  • Why does stuffit open and create a new folder every time I save a pages document?

Why does stuffit open and create a new folder every time I save a pages document?

Because you are saving it to the desktop, Pages documents are actually zipped files and Stuffit is set to uncompress desktop files.
Either don't save to the desktop (bad practice) or check the preferences in Stuffit to see if you can turn off unstuff files on desktop.

    Oh, dear.
If you use PSE as your external editor for iphoto, you need to save the images back to iphoto by using Save, not Save As and not changing anything like the name or format that would bring up the Save As window. (You may need to adjust the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing.)
OR you can export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, use file>open in the editor and then change whatever you want and either import the saved image to the organizer or import it back to iphoto as a new file. What you are doing is extremely risky, particularly to the iphoto library which you may easily damage by your workflow.
I would start the organizer holding down the shift key, then create a new catalog and switch to the new one. Then try opening the editor without opening an image and see if you get any farther.
PSE and iphoto are not designed to be used as you've been doing. You are trying to write to the iphoto library from outside iphoto, which is the fastest known way to corrupt the library and lose all your photos.

  • Stuffit, every time I save.....

Every time I save a numbers document, Stuffit briefly opens, and creates a folder "filename.numbers Folder" with a build history, a "quicklook" folder and an index.xml in it......
So if I save 12 times while working on the document I end up with twelve of these folders....
    Ho do I stop that?
    Thanks.

    Hello
There is a preference checked by default asking Stuffit to expand the compressed files.
Alas, flatFiles generated by iWork '09 *_are compressed files_* so, it expands them on the fly.
Uncheck the box and you will get rid of this behaviour.

Saving a Pages document: when I first save a pages document it saves and I don't know where it goes or what its name is.  I want to be asked every time I save a pages document what to name it and where to save it. How do I set this preference?

I'll guess that you've used a page layout document & pasting created a text box. You can add more pages & create linked text boxes, but I think you'd be better of using a word processing document. In word processing documents there is a basic text layer & additional pages will be created as needed to fit the text. Take a look at the toolbar of your document. If it says "sections" for the +page icon it's a word processing document, if it says "pages" it's a page layout document.

  • Dreamweaver 2014.1 crashes every time I save a file

Since upgrading to the latest version of Dreamweaver it now crashes every time I save a file.

Ok Henning ! Can you please share the crash logs .
How to Collect crash logs on win –
You need to add these entries in registry.
    1. Go to run, type regedit and enter. This will open Registry Editor.
    2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting->Right Click->New->Key. New key named "New Key #1" will be created. Rename it to LocalDumps.
    Add two entries LocalDumps
2.1 Right click on LocalDumps->New->Expandable String Value (REZ_EXPAND_SZ). Double click on the  entry created and add value name : DumpFolder and value data : %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps.
2.2 Right click on LocalDumps->New->DWORD (32 bit) Value(REG_DWORD). Double click on the value created and add value name : DumpType and value data :1
Next time when the application crashes you will find the crash dump at C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Local\CrashDumps. Dumps will be created only in case of crash and not hang.
    Thanks!

  • Every time I open my project file (LabView 8.5) it needs to be re-saved

Since LabView version 8.5, each and every time I open my project file (*.lvproj), it needs to be re-saved as indicated by the asterisk next to the project file name in the title bar of the Project Explorer. That is confirmed when I close it and a dialogue box pops up asking if I want to save the project.
I've clicked both "Save All" file menu items. The asterisk goes away and I can close the project without the dialogue box opening. But if I immediately re-open the project, the asterisk is there again.
Note that I have not made any changes - it occurs immediately after opening the project, as if it were a project file from a previoius version (which it was initially, but after saving it once in the new version, it should not happen again when no changes are made.
I did not observe this behavior with versions prior to 8.5. Anyone else see this? Thanks.
    Ed S.

Thanks for your input. I don't know what you mean by a "mass compile". I've build my application - both a stand-alone exe and the installer (and it works), and I've saved the project. Then when I re-open it I get the asterisk. I can save it again, but the same thing occurs when I open it again.
No, I'm not using XControls or LVLOOP (whatever they are). Also, the application was developed originally in version 8.2.1 and then saved in version 8.5 when it became available. Everything else works fine, the same as it did in the previous version. This is the only difference I've seen.

  • Editing Wiki adds extra breaks every time I save the article

I’ve been working on the article below and I’ve noticed that every time I save the article it adds extra breaks.
I’m not an HTML guy so if it looks horrible in the HTML view let me know.
If I’m doing something wrong, let me know.  Tips, tricks, oh hey by the ways… All ears!
Also, and links to information about adding screen shots would be helpful for another article I’m working on.

I've also got this problem, and I'd reckon it started around the time I installed IE10 on Win7. It continues still, with IE11 on Win7.
The strange thing is that there are a couple of wiki articles I curate, and they have tables in them, when I add an additional row to the table and populate it, the oversupply of <br>'s doesn't seem to happen.
    e.g.:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/9539.list-of-public-microsoft-support-knowledge-base-kb-articles-for-sccm-2012-system-center-configuration-manager.aspx?PageIndex=3
But this GP article is driving me nuts with all the superfluous <br>'s, to the point where I thought I'd convert the whole body into a table (in case tables are somehow protected from this <br> bloat), but sadly the <br> disease seems to
be following me here too :(
    [above the first table]
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4976.selected-content-relating-to-group-policy-administrative-templates-adm-and-admx.aspx
editing in HTML mode clearly shows the excessive <br>'s
was my crime to initially create the article from a Word doc?
