ITunes freezes Windows 7 every time I try to play a song!

My iTunes worked fine yesterday. I left my house for 5 minutes and now the Volume Mixer will not open and every time I try to play a song in iTunes it locks up. I get an error message when my Playback Devices window opens (which is blank...there are NO playback devices) saying "Windows Shell Common Dll is not responding." Every hour there is a new problem with Mac and Microsoft interfacing. I can't stand it and just want my media player back. I have no music now! My phone won't sync. Nothing.

I'd give it a go doing a repair install of Windows 7 from the installation disc.

a further message box states that Data Execution Prevention has closed the program.
Try updating your QuickTime to the most recent version. Does that clear up the DEP errors in iTunes?

ITunes 7.7 crashes every time I try to play a song

I installed iTunes 7.7 yesterday, no problems whatsoever.
However, suddenly today when I was listening to some music, the application crashed. Since then, every time I try to play some tune it crashes. It launches properly, I can do everything and click on whatever, but when I double click on a song, zilch.
I tried reinstalling the application, erasing its preferences, verifying and repairing permissions to no avail.

I was having this problem when connected to the company network. Using your tip allows me to at least play songs I already have. Unfortunately iTunes still crashes out when I try and access the iTMS
Does anyone have an idea how to fix that? Or will I just have to wait until the next update?

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on Windows 8.1 64 bit? For now I will assume Premiere Elements 12 in a NTSC set up.
Your iPhone 5s video is expected to be 1080p @ 30 progressive frames per second? Do you confirm that? Because of the source of your video, it is highly likely that you are dealing with a variable frame rate.
Please give the following a try to see if you then have an "importable" product to take into Premiere Elements presumed 12/12.1.
Download and install the free HandBrake program.
http://handbrake.fr/
Import your video file into the program.
Make sure you browse to and set Destination (suggested Desktop location)
Go to the Video Tab and set
Video codec = H.264 (x264)
Frame Rate = 29.97
put a dot next to Constant for the Frame Rate
Click on the Start at the top left of the workspace
Wait for the "Queue Finished" to appear in the progress bar at the bottom left of the workspace.
Then see if this H.264.mp4 (1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second file can be imported into Premiere Elements 12 project with a manually set project preset of NTSC/DSLR/1080p/DLSR 1080p30@ 29.97.

To reinstall iTunes, download it from the Apple Downloads website.

Try closing out of Recently Used Apps. To do this, double click the Home button to bring up the list of Apps. Then tap your finger over one of them and then tap the red minus sign that appears in the upper right corner of each to remove them.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, try a hard reset. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
