Are you choosing it from one of these folders (in my screenshot) or you can also put that picture into the correct folder. The path is:
HD > Library > Desktop Pictures
If you add it to the folder manually, please restart your computer.
And yes, letting it sleep is a good idea, or else the startup disk will spin and the screen may suffer from image persistence if you leave a window or image parked in the same spot too long, so the screensave is a good idea.

  • Why does iTunes delete my library every time I turn my computer on? All my music is still on my computer but when I open iTunes it comes up with the scan media page. I have to redo my playlists and it takes forever. Can someone help??

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied and renamed asiTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Even if you have the media you can use selected steps from the tip to ensure that you don't lose settings and data from the device as a result of switching libraries.
A large number of users with this issue have been using AVG Anti-Virus which appears to be implicated in the problem. AVG have released a patch which might help, so if you use AVG then I would update that first. I'd also be interested to know which AV you use in case others may cause similar issues. I recommend excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time and scheduled AV scanning process. Another possible cause could be automatic backup tools.

Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back.

I would start with some basic troubleshooting.
    REPAIRING DISK PERMISSIONS -
NOTE: refer to article "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature" found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452 - for the actual apple article on these step. ----
    - click finder in the bottom dock, and in the window that opens, select applications in the left column - scroll through until you see the 'Utilities' folder and double click to open it.  Then double click on 'Disk Utility'
    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
    - ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
    - click the button at the bottom that says 'Repair Disk Permissions'
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying 'Permissions repair complete'
Dan Frankes has written an excellent article for Macworld on "Permissions" and the need to repair them - see - http://www.macworld.com/article/52220/2006/08/repairpermissions.html.    Another good web site is - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/durepairfns.html.
    REPAIRING DISK - About OS X Recovery - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718.
    - restart your computer hold down command + R keys on the keyboard to boot you into Lion / Mountain Lion Recovery mode
    - select english as your main language then the continue arrow
    - select "Disk Utility" on the resulting screen then 'Disk Utility' ---
    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
    - ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
    - click the button at the bottom that says 'REPAIR DISK' .......NOT "Repair disk permissions"
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying "The Macintosh HD appears OK"
If you get any other message OTHER than "The Macintosh HD appears OK", like "the Macintosh HD was repaired successfully" run the "Disk Repair" again, until it displays  "The Macintosh HD appears OK".
Once done, restart the computer as normal

  • My airport signal has a !... every time we turn on computer it kills the wireless signal... HELP!!!!

every time we turn on our macbook, on we see a ! in the airport icon up at the top of our computer... And every time we turn that computer on, it turns off the internet for out other mac... Can someone please help me?  email me at [email protected]

First boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and then reboot again normally.  The safe mode boot will take longer as it runs repair procedures during the boot.
If that fixes the problem I'd also update the system to the latest 10.9.4 via the  OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update

  • Time settings messed up every time I turn the compter off

    Hello,
I just got my macbook pro a week ago, and every time I shut down the computer the time seetings get messed up. I unchecked the automatic update, I even locked the settings and it still does it. It is really annoying to set the time correctly every time I turn the computer on. Could anybody help me with that ?

    Hi
Interesting, this is normally as a result of the internal battery being dead. Is this Macbook new or second-hand? If new, & from Apple, would get in contact with them.

  • I cannot get my preferred images to remain on the desktop.  Through preferences I choose an image and it disappears each time I turn the computer off: why?  And how can I stop this?

When I go to 'desktop' in system preferences and choose an image for the desktop, it disappears when I turn the computer off.  Why is this?  And how can I get an image to remain until I choose to change it?  It acts this way whether I click 'change' or not.

If you log in automatically, a known bug will cause the desktop picture to revert to the default image of a galaxy at every startup. The only workaround is to disable automatic login in the Users & Groups preference pane.
If the desktop picture always reverts to a plain blue background, one of your login items may be causing the problem. The "Team Viewer" application has this effect, as reported by ASC user Zimmerwald. If it's not that in your case, rule out all other third-party login items as possible causes.
According to one report, a "stuck" desktop picture setting can be fixed by changing the setting and then immediately rebooting. I can't confirm, but there's no harm in trying it.
If none of the above applies to you, proceed as follows.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • _____'s Computer window open every time I turn my computer on...

Not sure this is the best forum for this question, but here goes...
Every time I turn my MacBook on, the "(name)'s Computer" window is already open and shows the network icon and the macintosh HD icon. Then, after I close my browser, there are sometimes several of these windows open all over my screen. I haven't been able to track a pattern of which web sites cause a new window to open, but this is just confusing. Any idea if it's a bug or a particular setting of my computer? I know others with this computer who don't have the same issue.

    Hi,
Have you done things like fix the disk permissions (you can use Disk Utility) or used a program like OnyX to run the maintenance scripts? OnyX is freeware from Titanium Software. Here is a link
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
If you have tried all these, then you may need to try deleting Finder preferences com.apple.finder.plist or even just moving it to the desktop.
    Hope this helps
    Karn.

  • Since updating iTunes and Mavericks, every time I import m4v files into iTunes it renames all the files to "Avidemux". what's gone wrong?

Since updating iTunes and Mavericks, every time I import m4v files into iTunes it re-names all the files to "Avidemux". what's gone wrong?

(By the way, would I need to use also the red and white phono cables also to get sound?)
Yes, S-video cables do not carry sound.
When you import 16:9 into DV Widescreen, make sure that you have UNchecked 'automatic letterboxing'.
In Preferences, is the project set to the correct standard?
    29.95 fps = NTSC
    25 fps = PAL.
BTW, this is actually the iMovie 5 forum, but no matter!

  • Dies every time i turn my car off

in my car i have my ipod using transmitter and charger. when i turn off car, i ALWAYS turn off my ipod by holding center button down. somehow every time i come back and turn my car on the ipod is dead and it was like i left it on the whole time WHICH I DO NOT. i used to have the ipod nano 4th or whatever and it never did this...i would do same thing and when i turned car back on, it picked up on the shuffle/song right where i left off at. of course if i keep ipod on it would die but i make sure i turn it on because i dont' want to have it start over in the shuffle....help!!!

    Hello asiankelsey,
In order to turn off this version of the iPod Nano, you would need to hold down the sleep/wake button on the top of the device.
Turn iPod nano off completely, or to turn it back on: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds.

  • Every time I turn my computer on it starts freaking out. The mouse starts moving on its own along with windows coming up and moving off the screen. Also the windows get bigger on their own and the screen slides around like some one else is doing it.

I have checked for viruses, restarted it and nothing works. It doesn't do it all the time just most of the time now.

Try resetting your PRAM by restarting, then holding <CMD>+<OPTION>+p+r until you hear the start up chime twice, then release the keys and allow to boot up.
If that doesn't work try resetting the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If those two items don't help take your machine  to your nearest Apple store and see if they can assist.
