Every Windows 2008 R2 has become a KMS Server...how?

When I opened DNS, I noticed that every W2K R2 server that we have has created a _VLMCS SVR record.  Why would this be?
Karl

Hi,
Please understand that you only need 1 KMS host (you can also setup more KMS hosts for redundancy). You can use 1 KMS key to setup up to 6 KMS hosts. For your KMS clients, you should use corresponding KMS client keys.

Sometimes this is caused by a screen protector on the phone.  I have no idea how it happens, but I have read of people having the same problem and they got it to go away by removing or replacing the screen proctector.

My mac book pro has become very slow. How to analyze and resolve this?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

I suspected some issue with AV so uninstalled.
To resolve the Access Denied I followed these steps:
    stop w32time
    w32tm /unregister
    reboot
    regsvr32 /u w32time.dll
    w32tm /register
sc query w32time -- you should see that the service is set to
shared mode -- this is presumably how it should be -- if you try to start right now, you'll get the expected 1290 SID-related error
    reboot
w32time should now automatically start at boot up and be running -- that was my result -- it's running as shared, started on its own, and I can do the w32tm /query commands successfully
After rebooting the time service started.
    I then repeated the steps:
    net stop w32time
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"0.pool.ntp.org, 1.pool.ntp.org, 2.pool.ntp.org"
    w32tm /config /reliable:yes
    net start w32time
    w32tm /query /configuration
And all worked. I'll wait a short while to see if this fixes the issue. I also have am SA case with MS so will confirm fix when resolved.

Are you confirming your POP account is selected as the sending email account before the message is sent?
And regardless if the email is a new email or is replying to or forwarding an email received by the POP account and cofirming the POP acconut is selected as the sending email account, the message is sent by the Gmail account?
All message sent by the POP account are sent by the Gmail account?
If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad.

  • I have an older machine with windows 2000 that has a substantial itunes library, how do i transfer it to my new windows 7 machine

What is the best way to do this?

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • HT1420 My household has 6 computers & a server - how can I authorise more than 5 pc's

My household has 5 laptops and a Mac Server, plus 6 iPhones, 3 iPads & 5 apple tv's.  However we can't access the shared library on all devices because Apple will only allow 5 pc's to be authorised.  When I purchased the server I was told it wouldn't count towards the number of pc's - NOT TRUE!  I had to authorise the server so now we have one person who can't watch anything on her macbook.  C'mon Apple. We've spent the equivalent of a small country's national debt to you - surely there must be a workaround for genuine situations like this - just check my purchase history! Not to mention the thousands of $$ we've spent on iTunes.....

You are not addressing Apple or its employees here, only fellow product users.
If you read this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
    It states this:
Authorizing and deauthorizing a computer allows you to manage which computers can sync or use apps, audiobooks, books, music, movies, or other content you've purchased from the iTunes Store.
You can use or sync your purchases from the iTunes Store on up to five different  computers (these can be any mix of Macintosh or Windows-compatible  computers). When you sync or play an item you've purchased, your computer is  "authorized" for purchase using your Apple ID.
This has everything to do with the laws of the entertainment industry, Apple simply has to follow the law. I'm very sorry to burst that bubble, but I'm quite sure there's no 'workaround' to accomplish what you're trying to do. There is no Apple supported way to authorise more than five computers.
It's probably not what you want to hear, but hope this information helps

  • How to activate Windows 8.1 on a Windows 2008 R2 KMS server when I don't have Windows 2012 R2 kms host key

I only have windows 8.1 kms host key but I can't add a client OS kms key to Windows 2008 R2 kms server. And I don't have Windows 2012 R2 license either. Is there any way I can activate Windows 8.1 using my existing kms server? Thanks.

I would like a yes no clarification answer. So does this mean that EVEN WITH THE PATCH. My Server 2012 Standard edition that currently hosts KMS VA for clients running Win7, Win 8, Office15, Server 2008, Server 2012. Will not be able to host windows 8.1?
I will have to install 8.1 and use as a host?
if you have a KMShost product key for WS2012R2, you can patch a down=level Server and be fine.
(the OP didn't renew SA or otherwise has no KMShost pkey for WS2012R2)

I'm having similar issues and have a similar question that doesn't seem to be answered:
My KMS server is Windows 2008 R2 (Also is my domain controller). I want to activate Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 machines off this KMS server. I can install the 2012 R2 key just fine but receive error 0xC004F015 (The Software Licensing Service reported
that the license is not installed) when I try to install my 8.1 KMS key.
What I'm gathering from this thread is that I have to set up a Windows 8.1 host and set it up to be a KMS server exclusively for activating Windows 8.1. Is this correct? If so, Microsoft needs to fix that. I have a SERVER for activations for a reason: it
is a server, not a client. If I am mis-understanding, how do I get my Windows 2008 R2 server to accept the Windows 8.1 KMS key for activating 8.1 clients?
    Thanks!
You don't need Windows 8.1 KMS key. Your 2012 R2 KMS key will be able to activate your Windows 8.1 machines. So your current set up is fine, no need to set up another Windows 8.1 KMS host.
    My problem is I don't have 2012 R2 KMS key as I didn't buy any Windows 2012 R2 license. So I can't use 2012 R2 KMS key to activate my Windows 8.1.
Oh that's interesting. I guess I need to play around more because my 8.1 test machine isn't activating. I'll start a new thread for that if needed. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Not Able To Assign A Static IP Address To Windows 2008 64 bit Server

    Hello Experts,
I've been trying to assign a static IP address to Windows 2008 R2 Server Virtual Box image. As soon as I assign static IP address to the image, either it hangs or says "Unidentified network".
I'm 100% sure that I'm using correct IP address, Gateway, Subnet mask and DNS Server details. If I use same settings on other linux virtual box, it is able get that static ip address. The issue is only with Windows 2008 image.
Here few more inputs that may help:
    - Windows 2008 image has "Bridge" adapter.
    - Host system is connected to corporate network via wired connection and NOT on VPN.
    - If I use "Obtain IP address automatically" setting, then it is able to get a dynamic IP address and internet is working fine.
    Questions:
    1. Has anyone seen this issue before ?
    2. Do I need to do any additional configuration on Windows 2008 server ?
    Thanks,
    GK

    Hi,
Method 1: Uninstall and reinstall network drivers.
Method 2: If you have any anti-virus software, disable them.
You can also try set a static IP via neetsh commend.

  • 802.1x PEAP Windows 2008 NPS Certificate

I've setup a centrally switched SSID on a 5508 WLC utilising 802.1x PEAP authentication to a pair of Windows 2008 NPS which authenticate the PEAP username and password to our Active Directory domain.
Currently the Windows 2008 NPS servers are utilsing a server certificate issued from our internal Certificate Authority with the certificate being presented to the device upon connection depending upon which server the WLC sends the authentication too. The servers names on the internally issued certificate are in the form of:
    Server01.domain.local
    Server02.domain.local
Due to these certificates being internally issued certificates when some devices specifically Apple iPad and iPhones connect to the SSID initally they are prompted to accept the certificate but it is listed as not verified as its issued by an internal domain CA and not an external root certificate authority.
I am going to be obtaining an external root CA issued certificate for both servers to replace the internally issued certifcates however I notice using the internal certificate if I connect a device to the SSID and accept the certificate of server with certificate name server01.domain.local and then if disable the ability for clients to connect to server01 the WLC will automatically forward the authentication connection to the next server on the list however as this server is presenting a different certificate "server02.domain.local" devices which are conducting certificate validation will fail to connect as the certificate does not match the previously accept certificate.
Does anyone know a way around this?
Will adding say server02.domain.local as an additional name to the certificate for server01.domain.local resolve this issue?

    Hi,
Please confirm the Win7 clients has renew the certificate and deleted the old certificate. And confirm you are not using the default server certificate template.

  • Windows 2008 r2 WSUS port 8530

    WINDOWS 2008 R2
new install of WSUS server 3.2.7600.251 want to change the port to 8530 from 80
But when I open command prompt and run wsusutil usecustomport true.....I get error :
    C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools>wsusutil usecustomwebsite true
Fatal Error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

    Hi,
Did you stop the WSUS service before you change the port?
If no, please try to stop the WSUS service with the command below first:
    net stop wsusservice
After change the port, run the command net start wsusservice to start he WSUS service.
Besides, do not forget to change the WSUS GPO settings.
    Best Regards.

  • Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 2008 R2 - access denied error

I just installed 11gR2 on a Windows 2008 R2. When I tried to unsecure the dbconsole I noticed that an "Access is denied" error is returned, so I am not able to use the stop/start/unsecure command from emctl.
I am able to log in into the db and asm, but if I try to perform an imp/exp operation an create a log file from the operation I get an error EXP-00028: failed to open <log file name> for write.
I have already turned off the firewall, but the problem persists.
I know that Windows 2008 R2 has a lot of security enhancements that could cause issues, but I don't know what else I can turn off to deal with this situation.
BTW, I am logged with an account part of the Local Admins. and it belongs to the group ora_dba.
    Thanks,
    Alberto

This may be a little late but did you run the command line using the Run As Administrator option? Windows 2008 will return that error when trying to do certain privileged operations under regular user rights.

  • BPC 7.5 SP4 Support for Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2

The release notes for BPC 7.5M SP04 state that support has been added for both Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2.
For SQL 2008 R2, there is nothing in the feature pack described as "SQL 2005 Backward Compatibility Components" - which was a required piece for  BPC 7/7.5 on SQL 2008. Is the SQL 2008 version still a requirement, or does BPC 7.5 now not need the Backward Compatibility components?
Also, the ReprotViewer executable that is packaged with BPC 7.5 is the one for SQL 2008- will that work when installing SQL 2008 R2?
    thanks,
