Hi. After I dont know how many hours I finally got mine to work. I hope this helps you, although I am not sure if it will. I am not exactly sure why it worked, or how ( maybe just a whole lotta hoping!)
Anyway....So I did a bunch of stuff a billion times. But here Is what I did most Recently to get it to work: ) Delete any old Creative files related to your player. 2) Reinstall the CD 3) Download Firmware upgrade .20.04 to your Desktop. 4) Download Mass Storage Driver .07.00.250 to your desktop. 5) Try to put it into recovery mode like you have probably done before by taking out the batter and holding play while you plug it in. 6) Instead of waiting for a "find new hardware" dialog box, i double clicked to open the new firmware file I had downloaded. This searched for my player and found it. 7) A box will pop up to upgrade your firmware. MAKE SURE TO SELECT THAT BOX THAT SAYS "FORMAT DATA AREA" before your start. ( I think this is where all my problems came from.) This worked for me and that was all I had to do. I didnt actually do anything with the Storage Driver download except put it on my desktop before i plugged my player.
After multiple correspondences with some not-so-bright support people, they did say if the recover mode wouldnt go or i couldnt get anything to work that I would have to send it back in for "Return Merchandise Authroization." If your contacting them, dont hold your breath too long....it takes a very long time for a response.

He's right, though, to advertise to N200 owners with a shouting title (we should bump this occasionally), as Creative just won't put this in their instructions, yet there seem to be plenty of us N200 users that get stuck where our computer can't recognize it in recovery mode.

Every BT Customer Should Read This

Hi Everyone
I just want to ask if anyone has had the (mis)opportunity to speak to BT custoomer services?
I went to cancel by Broadband to move to another provider, but the idiots managed to cancel my phone line instead!!
I then made the huge mistake of thinking this would be a simple problem to resolve.
I rang them on a Tuesday evening, spoke to someone in India who didn't have a clue what had happended then finally got to speak to someone who could reconnect my line but was then told they had all gone home!
I rang again next day was told I had to go through sales as a new order and then could have my number back. When put through to sales I actually spoke to someone in the UK, the girl on the other end said to call back in two days when the new line was live I could have my number changed, this was after sitting in a queue for 30 mins being passed by 5 departments.
So, I phone 2 days later and speak to our friends in India whio tell me that I can have my number back but it will take 5 working days. I promptly lose it at this point and unload a barrage of abuse at the poor chap. I then get passed onto his supervisor who says they will do it by midday and he will personally ring me back.
True to his word Mr. India calls back and tells me he has spoken to Openreach and they will have my old number live by 12pm. I try my number all afternoon and it does not work.
I ring BT again this time accidently end up in a call centre in Blackburn who inform me that I don't have my old number back but I have a new number!!! I lose it again and explain the situation, they're not really bothered but I eventually get passed onto the token supervisor. He reckons his colleague will phone Openreach tomorrow morning (as it's 4:30 they've all gone home!!) to sort it out.
I should have my number back by 12pm tomorrow, this is after eight 30-40 minute phone calls.
I would like to hear from anyone who has ever dealt with these idiots before, it just beggars belief.
They're quick to demand payment but when stuff goes wrong they don't want to know, I want someone at BT to same accountability and look after their customers. I was going to stay but not after this episode.
I have deal with Openreach with my work and they are next to useless.

OK HERE ARE SOME BASIC QUESTIONS THAT EVERYONE I'M SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW AS WELL AS MYSELF.
1. Comparing Pro Tools with Logic. Which is better? Which is easier to learn. Which plugins are the best and can you use any of Pro Tools Plugins with logics.
2. Keeping up to date with music proudction can be a pain in the but. Is there any good website out there that keep you up to date with some good plugin updates. Also what are some new and upcoming plugins that are availble for logic pro that are suggested excellent!
3. Logic Pro To Logic Pro 7.1. Is it worth the upgrade. what new plugins are there and how do you like the comparson to the people that stitched over

Got to say I think you guys got a tiny bit carried away with the cooking analogies...!
LPG:
1. Don't worry about Pro Tools, you own (or have access to) Logic Pro - this is more than good enough to make great sounding music on.
2. Again, don't worry about other plugins. Logic ships with some great sounding plugs and while not all of them are AMAZING they are all good enough to make some hot tracks. For example, some of the "Dynamic" and "EQ" plugs are not quite up to the standards of the Waves plug-ins, but it's possible to make great sounding stuff regardless. (once you've made a few $$'s out of music, you can treat yourself to them... while not totally relevant a lot of Dizzee Rascal and his pals make stuff (or used to make stuff - reckon he might have upgraded by now!) on their Playstations (no joke!) and that'd go "off the hook" "inna de dance" : 0 ) and for example, Dnb artists Concorde Dawn make their stuff on Fruity Loops! They've had an awful lot of stuff out.... and it always sounds (even if you hate it!) well produced...)
For other plugs, check other forums, ask nicely, and people will be only too happy to share which plugs are good. Read interviews to see what pro's use. Try google - "plug ins" or otherwise, I'm a subscriber to the "Turnkey" catalogue which is nice - each month a list forms of stuff I would love to have...
I do think you're confusing two things here though too - Music Production doesn't really move that quick - things like headroom and compression etc have troubled people for ages - search the net when you get a chance (try digido.com, soundonsound.com). And while I guess new plug ins do come on to the market sometimes (maybe even frequently), it's all just about been done and refined significantly - someone mentioned a GSM128db cut eq/filter on here a while ago... do a quick search on "GSM plug in's" for example.... you get the picture... use your initiative as my old teachers used to say....
3. Yes, the upgrade is well worth it. Improved stability further. Haven't really used the new plugs but that's me. Buy it!

Fair enough the battery is an issue. Never realy thought about that. Hopefully when the new long lasting batteries that we've been seeing in the process of production are available i believe this is a must. Yes the platform is amazing at the moment with complete support to 3rd party apps which is the best thing about them, but theyre slightly less good looking. And getting more and more ugly. They need a lil more effort put into design, of product and software. For example the slider on the n95 8gb, might be better than the vanilla n95 but no where as near as the lg shine or even the w810i which is half its price. All the buttons on the front of the phne ie the menu etc all creak when i press them. this phone cost me £400. Its got the build quality of a £50 handset. so ive sacrificed on build quality so give me more once ive turned the phone on. I think what has habbened is us consumers have started to settle for less. Everything is possible but Nokia seam to be raising their prices quiker than there technology and we keep falling to there products like slaves. Just look at the profit they made in the last quater of 07. Surely this is a multi billion £ company with soaring profits, and why. Because consumers starting to settle for less and pay more for less. If this handset came out at £600, or even £800. I wouldnt lie to you, i would still buy it. Its an amazing phone. But as to what we getting for the price its still a little bit behind in inovation. If we continue to support this extortionate increase in prices and consumers still complaining bout things that could make it better where does this end. Its about time we got exactly what we pay for and Nokia start to concentrate more on what customers whant to see in their next handset before the start making it. Give us what we want, Ask us what we want, And then put a price tag on it in and we'll pay whatever. Because it is exaxtly what we want.

Home Theater receiver users should read this for enabling dolby digi

I have an onkyo 5. dts / dolby digital receiver, and an audigy 2 zs platinum. i am using an optical cable from the front panel on the audigy to the optical in on my receiver. My receiver manual says it is a 96 khz receiver. I am using a 2 pin cable from my dvd player to the audigy. When using a dvd, I can not get dolby digital sound to my receiver. I have set the audigy to spdif pass through, i have tried 48khz, 96khz, every combination of everything. Setting to 2. speakers, 5. speakers, but yet i am stuck with either stereo sound if set to 96khz, or dolby prologic II if set to 48khz.
Another thing i tried was using a dvd image i created on my hard dri've from a dvd, and playing it through alcohol 20%, to see if it was my dvd player giving the problems. I still get the exact same results when playing a dolby digital source through the hard dri've.
So, in the end, is it actually possible to have dolby digital from the audigy 2 zs platinum through a home theater receiver, or not?

I am feeling the same way about this card. It would be nice if somebody from creative could respond with a definite correct way to get dolby digital to my home theater receiver. Im sick of being plagued with problems.. no dolby digital, random stopping of sound which requires me to reinstall drivers, popping noises every so often, etc etc etc..
seriuosly... an m-audio revolution is starting to sound pretty appealing.
edit: I would also like to note that my box does say front panel optical out for 5. support, unlike the previous poster had said it says stereo only. I am able to get dolby digital if i switch to my onboard nforce soundstorm or whatever it is.
PS. I am not going to let this thread drop down until I have a definiti've answer on whether it is possible to have dolby digital through my audigy 2 zs platinum and home theater receiver. I feel the same exact way! I am absolutely livid with how much I have been charged over these past few months. How is it I was informed by my school that Adobe would only charge us $9.97. After I signed up, I dropped the course which required us to have Adobe Cloud. Now I check my bank account and I see I am continuously being charged $32.04 every month. This is abdolutely outrageous! Now I'm calling trying to cancel it and they're telling me I have to pay an extra month. This is mind blowing! Something needs to be done.

Just a heads up for my fellow Mac users.

Techtool pro is now defragmenting my mac. Looks like the job's going to take about 4 hours. I thought I'd give everyone the truth about this while waiting (on a different computer obviously)
The truth is, Apple's defragmenting system ***** BALLS. It has two massive, massive flaws which I feel people urgently need to be made aware of.
#1: It only defragments files up to 20mb. If you're a movie producer, a songwriter, a photographer, or anything which involves working with many massive files, the built in defragmenting program WILL NOT HELP YOU IN THE SLIGHTEST.
#2: It only defragments FILES. Free space is ignored, which eventually causes absolutely hrrendous problems.
Let me give you an analogy here. Imagine your mac's hard drive is a bookcase with lots of books on it.
File fragmentation is when it can't find a gap in the bookcase big enough for the entire book, so it breaks the book into pieces and srotes them in different gaps.
Space fragmentation is when there are gaps all over the bookcase, instead of all the books being pushed to one side so there's a long gap elsewhere.
Apple's built in defragmenting program will only fix the first problem - and even then, it will ignore any book bigger than 20 pages long, if you have bigger books which are broken up, you're screwed.
Why is space fragmentation a problem? It's a problem because it directly LEADS TO file fragmentation. If there is a large block of free space all in one part of the disk, then an entire file can be written to it. However, if there is no single free block big enough for the file, it HAS NO CHOICE but to fragment it.
So basically you might have 5 GB free and want to save a 2GB imovie project. That's cool. But what you may not realize is, the biggest single area of free space is only say 600MB. Others are around 300 and 400. Therefore the file MUST be fragmented into all these different areas, which wouldn't be necessary if all the free space was in one area of the disk.
But apple's built in tools don't do anything about this, at least not in Tiger. PErhaps this has been fixed in later installations but I'm almost certain the same issues exist in leopard.
Your only option is to buy a defragmenting program. I know this ***** but believe me, this IS something you NEED to do if your activity on your laptop involves disk space - intensive projects. I'm using TechTool Pro which has been recommended to me as hands down the best. It has a number of other functions as well, right now I'm only using the defragmenting tools but it has others for repairing damages disk sectors and other mantainence tools. There are other programs such as iDefrag out there as well.
Why am I telling you this? I'm telling you because I experienced mind numbing frustration trying to get answers from the Apple community. Google it or ask the question yourself and you will most likely be whacked in the face with the intro to my post here - "You don't need to, it's not necessary, macs do it themselves, blah blah blah"
Even worse, Apple's own webpage on the subject is nothing short of a disaster. It basically says "You PROBABLY don't need to defragment, unless you work with large files." That's it. You'd expect it to have an extra section saying "If you DO happen to work with large files, here's what you do" but no such section exists. It basically says "You don't need to defrag most of the time, and on the rare occasions when you do, well, too bad, you're screwed."
I urge everyone to heed this or they will be tearing their hair out at how slow their mac has become and the fact that no one will offer any meaningful advice other than the standard, generic, "Repair permissions" - the Mac equivelant of "have you tried turning it off and on again".
My disk is at 99% fragmented free space. NINTEY NINE PERCENT. In other words, although I have 25GB of free space, there was not a single contiguous block on the entire machine. I had almost 5,000 fragmented files as well, mostly imovies. Defragmenting got this down to about 300.
The defrag job is taking more than 4 hours and will probably go on to take a lot longer than that. This machine has been slowly grinding to a halt over the last 3 years and now I know why.
Please don't listen to anyone. Get yourself a defragmenting folder, and email Apple to tell them it's just not good enough to give their customers half assed answers and inadequate basic maintainence tools. Mac OS X must literally be the only operating system out there where something as basic as defragmenting is not only almost impossible to get answers on, but actually costs money to fix once you DO get answers.
As customers, we should not accept this any longer. I intend to spread the above message far and wide.
I LOVE Apple. I've always been "a mac" and I always will be. This in no way a mac bashing post or a windows endorsing one. I wouldn't switch back to windows if you gave me a million euro.
But sometimes even the best developers can royally f*ck up. This is one of them.
There is no readon people should be forced to put up with this crap. Absolutely no reason at all. I've had 3 months of crappy performance with no official explanation whatsoever.
Apple if you're reading this: I love your products. I'm a loyal customer. People are more forgiving than you think, speak up, admit you dropped the ball, and DO something about it in your next updates to Lion and whichever versions of Leopard you are still actively maintaining.
There's no shame in admitting when you're wrong. The shame is in hiding behind false promises and walls of silence.

The old rule of thumb was to keep 10-12 GB free. Any lower than that and you will start to have trouble. I was very close to that for a long time and never had any complaints. Now, Lion "encourages" 20% free space (on my newer 250 GB drive) so I try to keep it with more than 50 GB free.
Do you still have the original memory in that machine too? The metal plate you have to remove in the battery compartment also provides access to the RAM. Your machine will take 2 GB of RAM, possibly 3. You definitely want to max that out too.
Regardless, you definitely need a new hard drive. When Apple switched to PC components, they had to take a quality hit. These 2.5" notebook hard drives are not very reliable. I'm surprised your hard drive hasn't died by now. I usually get a new hard drive with every major OS upgrade. A $ 50 investment every couple of years is no big deal.
Unfortunately, you (and I) suffer from being an early adopter in 2006. Those 32-bit machines only accept 2 GB RAM (maybe 3) and are only 32-bit so they can't be upgraded to Lion. Because of this limitation, you won't see as dramatic an improvement as you would with a 2007 machine. If you run more than a couple of applications, your hard drive is always going to have to be doing some VM work. My 2006 machine has even lost its bluetooth. I gave it to my brother. My very similar 2007 Macbook is still running great.
So, you must get a new hard drive because your old one is likely on death's door. If you don't have at least 2 GB - get it. If you can't afford a new machine, you might want to consider an SSD. That might help mitigate your RAM limitations. You can spend from $ 100 to $ 350 and get a dramatic speed improvement.

APPLE/DEVS Read this! Windows 7 CAN'T detect the iPhone 5s but iTunes CAN detect it! WEIRD, huh?!..

just a summary...
i have a iphone 3G which i have been using for a long time and now i got an iphone 5s.. troubleshooting this kind of stuff is not new to me from computers to smartphones.. the internet has a vast majority of information and all you need to do is type in the right "KEYWORD".. i'm that kind of guy that looks for the answer before i try to look on it on my own.. i'm a DIY kind of guy as long as there is an instruction on how to do it..
now, back to the topic..
so i was trying to copy some of my pictures on my iphone 5s to my PC for backup purposes and to see the quality of the images but the portable device doesn't show up unlike my iphone 3G which is f***ing WEIRD.. been tinkering with this over the past 5 days since i have nothing to do and testing the new features of this phone but to no avail.. searched all over the internet but still none..
so last night, i was really determined since i can't sleep and also connected my iphone 3G to my PC while the iphone 5s is connected.. so here is what shows up on my devices and printers and device manager..
i can totally see the pics on my iphone 3G but not on my iphone 5s.. totally amazing.. good job apple!
the picture under devices shows my iphone 3G and the other 2 on unspecified is my iphone 5s.. the iPhone under there is being used as my source of internet since this is tethered so i can have access and post this in here so that APPLE will know how f***ed up their SOFTWARE is is..
so i downloaded itunes a couple of times, and i can't remember how many already, i think 5 times or more and then uninstalled all apple softwares (itunes, apple application support, apple mobile device support and etc as long as there is apple in it) and then reinstalled itunes but still none..
so i went on device manager removed my iphone 3G and the only one that would show there is the Apple Mobile Device USB driver under USB controllers..
and then i uninstalled the driver, looked for the driver myself by just it doesn't show up in here where you are directed to look for the driver and oh im using 64 bit just so everyone knows and i already found out that my system is using the usbaapl64.sys file in windows>system32>drivers..
so last night i installed, reinstalled itunes and then suddenly my drive D: was gone and i received an error or a "!" on my drive and my drive is not being detected.
Error: windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damage. (code 19).
i unstalled the driver in device manager and then scan hardware changes, updated the driver automatically and manually and it is saying that i have the latest hardware but i can't use my DVD drive with the error on it..

so i then uninstalled my itunes, uninstalled my driver and then updated it and "walla!". i can see my DVD drive again. i am using iTunes64Setup v12.0.1.26 just so everyone knows and this setup can detect both my iphones and my iphone 5s is using the latest version which is iOS 8.1.2..
after reinstallation of itunes my DVD drive can be seen and just noticed how APPLE SOFTWARES are so ****** up.. CAUSING A LOT OF TROUBLE AND DAMAGES..
so going back to the topic..
i was able to find a way (AFTER HOW MANY HOURS of TROUBLESHOOTING) on how my iphone 5s was able to detect the portable device or should i say the images on my iphone 5s where the autoplay pops up and everything..
so i went on device manager, uninstalled apple mobile device USB driver, disconnected my iphone 5s, UNLOCKED my iphone 5s, connected it to my PC, clicked on TRUST this PC, on my PC the sound for a USB being connected sounded, and at the bottom right, automatically installed the drivers and then the autoplay popped up with the matching PORTABLE DEVICES on COMPUTER where i can browse the internal storage and the pictures..
so now i opened iTunes and BOOOM!
iTunes doesn't detect my iphone 5s but i can browse on the images on my phone..
so again i went to device manager, uninstalled the driver for apple iphone under portable devices, scanned for hardware changes, updated the driver manually by selecting drive C: so it would automatically find the correct drive..
so now, my iphone can be detected by itunes but not on my COMPUTER.. see how ****** UP this is?!.. JEEEEEEEEEZ!!
Now i finally found the SOLUTION on how to do this and vice versa.. UNTIL APPLE decides to FIX their SOFTWARE/DRIVER issues..
if you want to scan or browse the images on your iphone 5s on your computer all you need to do is do this:
[for those who don't know how to reach this part, here is a GUIDE on how to open this is: click on the device > click on update driver software > browse my computer for driver software > let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer]
and then you will see the screen below
click on MTP USB Device and then click on Next, after it finishes installing the drivers, your PC will automatically detect a new portable device but in order for you to access the images you need to go back on your phone, unlock it if it lock automatically and then click on "TRUST" and then you can now see the images..
BUT the problem here is that your iPhone can't be detected on iTunes...
now, if you want to go back to where your phone can be detected on itunes, just follow these steps:
click on apple mobile device USB driver, click on Next and then wait for your computer to finish the installation and then you will hear the beeping sound. check your phone, unlock it, then click on "TRUST", and then go to iTunes and you will now see your iPhone there but not on your PC where you can browse for the images..
SEE HOW THIS DRIVERS are so ****** up.. i wish i hadn't started using this ****** UP OS with all the BUGS and GLITCHES.. i HOPE the Apple DEVS read this and find the solution on the drivers which is so ****** UP and so LAME!!

Read this after press conference, what do you think?

Okay here's the deal. Apple had a press conference today, and they have thoroughly addressed the antenna issues or apparently lack of with the iPhone 4, now dubbed as "antennagate".
Now, I will just throw a "light" breakdown of thoughts on this and also leave the live blog provided by Endgaget down below for you to read for yourself.
So apple changes the design of the iPhone. It's beautiful. It's suppose to run better and perform better than previous models. But wait, what's this?
An antenna on the outside of a phone? Wow!
Guess What?
Now, people know exactly where the antenna has been placed and can visibly see and can physically touch it on the outside of the phone. They are now aware of it more than with any other phone and can manipulate it by covering it up with their big meaty, greasy, stinky, sweaty, hands.
Or clean, manicured, dainty hands.
So they do, as they should be able too.
Then they watch the signal drop!
Oh no!
You see, with other phones, internal antennas have never really been in the publics "eye" and has escaped the general public knowledge of how cell phones work and can be affected by holding or covering up the antenna area.
Apple created the first (that I've known of) external antenna that is located in the same place an internal antennas. Therefore causing you to actually grip it while in use.
What does this mean? Does it actually hurt it's signal more than internal antennas? Has Apple done their homework?
Ultimately it seems they have. As you should and would expect a multi Billion dollar company who is considered the world over as the best technology company out there. Why wouldn't they?
So what's the problem?
Now I think this report basically says (with out Apple outing their business partner AT&T) that the main issues are within the signal provider, area signal strength. Then there is fact that they basically but a big "X marks the spot" or "cover this up with your hand to make signal worse" area on the phone made aware to everyone when they had their keynote stating that the frame was doubled as an atenna.
The media doesn't' help either. As new customers are made and switch over from other companies such as Verizon for the iphone 4, then they come home to read or see this "antennagate" on you tube, they begin to attribute all their AT&T issues (dropped calls) to the design of the iPhone 4. Yet, studies, actual scientific studies have shown to have better reliability than older models of the iphone.
Here I think Apple proves this, and one must read between the lines on what they can and cannot say about the business and their relationship with AT&T.
But, I think they have proven the point they have a great phone for making calls. They have done their homework and yet still had to answer to this media sensation. They had to make some remedy despite that all the testing and statistics about the iphone 4's performance states that there is no antenna issue. That it isn't significantly much different than any other antenna placed out in todays current cell phone market.
Not to mention the sheep, and Apple haters or competitors who join the fray.
Does Apple have sheep followers? Sure. But they also have people who for whatever personal or business reasons despise them.
But, the sheep I refer too, are the people who just hear of, or read one report on this "antenna gate", and do no research for themselves to actually understand the issue or intelligently assess their problems with phone properly. Then they start to raise **** over something that may actually not an issue.
For example, many people have complained tirelessly over this "death grip" and how they drop calls all the time, only to find out that the whole time it must have been AT&T dropping them because they have been using a bluetooth device or a case around the phone which prevents this issue from coming from the antenna
Sheep.
The decision to apply and antenna icon on every phone in the cellular market was made to let consumers rate or judge their signal strength and calling area. 1 bar doesn't mean a call cant be made. just as 5 bars doesn't mean "superduper great signal you'll never drop a call ever ever".
Many specialists believe that the cell phone market should drop this antenna signal strength meter, because of its subjective nature, and tthe fact hat it doesn't actually work like a "gas tank meter" in a car, nor functions like one.
Anyone who's ever studied this "signal meter" knows that you can go from full 5 bars to no bars in less than a microsecond with no feasible reason, on any network. It's not about, "my network never drops calls" it's about consistency.
So why mislead consumers? Why not just have a green light, red light?
Back to Apple's choices.
They had to do something, had too. No matter what tests show, statistics, fanboys, haters, or competitors. They had too, without slapping AT&T in the face.
Enter the Press Conference.

In the end I feel a bit sorry for how things turned out. Apple looses millions on basically an issue that every company, and carrier has. Block the antenna, loose some signal.
Call it what you want but they are giving away free cases that costs millions of dollars to Apple, unnecessarily just to cool this thing down.
To all those who complain I say try this. Just use your phone naturally, don't try to "death Grip" the mother. Just use it and if you get dropped calls, try a case or bluetooth, or a headset, and if you get dropped calls, be open to the fact that it's probable AT&T, or just the nature of cellphones. Not an antenna issue that Nokia, Sony, Apple, Motorola, HTC, Samsung and every other maker faces . . . despite what they say.
Apple loses, because they currently are considered to be the king of the hill in the smart phone market (and others for that matter) and they told everyone "HEY! EVERYONE! Our antenna is on the outside, and it's right 'X' here!"
They Still apologized and gave away millions to make any and everyone happy.
Had their been and actual Hardware defect, I would have said RECALL. As things sit I think Apple handled things correctly. Had you anyone asked me earlier in the week, I would have scoffed at the idea of a bumper fix. But it's not a fix, there is nothing to fix, it's an act of good faith.
Maybe it's also a way to get more cases out their so when September rolls around they can have a better call drop ratio to the 3GS.
After the meeting I couldnt help but think, had I made something that wasn't broken, and people said I'd have to try and fix it, I think that all you would have seen from me would've been the middle finger.
It's a ish snow ball thrown down hill, and Apple is saying sorry you got hit on the way down but we didn't' toss it.
Here's something for your trouble.
Remember you can return it, and Apple is having a "case is sill open" approach and will continue to work on it. As for now, it appears that they really is nothing wrong with your antenna on your iPhone 4.
Maybe you should start to smile, or go to Verizon?

Hello everybody.
I am a would-be Iphone 4 user, which will now surely not become one.
I did read all the fuss about the antenna, and I did watch the conference, and here is what I think.
Saying that, even with the issues, “it is still useable”, is in my opinion ridiculous.
Guys, we’re talking about a 650 € mobile here.
The Iphone 4 is a top of the line phone. It’s not a 29 € mobile bought at a supermarket.
And if a 29 € can work as a phone perfectly, I expect that a mobile that costs 20 times that, can at least give me the same functionality that the cheap one gives.
Yes, the Iphone offers so much more, and that’s the reason why I wanted to buy it (so I am not an Apple naysayer, in fact I really wanted to buy an Iphone, and even defended it in front of friends in discussions), but really I need it first and foremost for work, and I NEED to be able to receive and make phone calls, and can’t afford to have dropped calls in bad reception areas.
This is an issue ALL smartphones have? To be sincere, I highly doubt that.
But even if it were, then I would go on with my non-smartphone mobile, until this thing is solved, because seriously, I think before adding in all kinds of gadgets and whatsoever, making sure you can use a phone to make phone calls everywhere without dropping calls should be the priority number 1.
There is no possible hardware solution? Now, I am not an expert, but if you look at the pictures of the antenna, and without making any particularly intelligent change… why not just rotate the antenna position 180°? So that the black band is on the top right, where nobody holds it, rather than on the bottom left, where most people hold it? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist in my opinion.
What I think is that we WILL see a hardware solution, in my opinion Apple already knows what needs to be done. But you can’t just change production from one day to the next. Apple has a lot of phones ready yet, and lots are being built, that it can’t just throw away.
So, until 30 September (or until these models will be dispatched) we’ll get this model with a bumper.
When the stock will be over, we’ll get a new model with the magical fix.
Until then… +“if you don’t want an Iphone 4 – don’t buy it”.+
Smart suggestion mr. Jobs gave, I’ll follow it.

Read this for CD/DVD Drive with burning, missing drives, not seeing discs

Seeing lots of the same posts with the same solutions being applied (mostly upper/lower control filters/MS Fixit)... so I thought I'd put this up for everyone.
*Update* If this helps, please click the kudos to the right as I'm trying to gauge how effective this is. If you have the time to help the community, please reply stating what did or did not work.
There are some helpful HP support articles that you may want to try before posting:
If your drive cannot burn discs... or you can burn CDs but not DVDs (or vise/versa)... read this...
Drive Cannot Write to Writable Discs (Windows 7)

Drive Cannot Write to Writable Discs (Windows 98, ME, XP)
Summary:
1) Try different discs! Cheap discs can be hit or miss. Find a disc brand and type that works best.
2) Try burning at a slower speed (not the best option, but can often get the job done if the laser is fading).
3) Remove drive from Device Manager and remove upper/lower filters (see below).
4) Use MS System Restore to go back to a time when it was working.
5) Use PC-Doctor/HP Hardware Diagnostic software to check for a bad drive.
6) If the drive is not bad - save your files and use HP Recovery to put the system back to the beginning.
If your drive cannot read discs; CDs or DVDs or both...
Drive Cannot Read Discs in Windows 7
Drive Cannot Read Discs in Windows Vista

Summary:
{restart the PC at least once to see if the drive shows up on boot}
1) See if the drive is listed in Device Manager (look for problems if it is).
2) Check autoplay (skip if you don't use).
3) Make sure a bad disc isn't knocking out the drive (an operating system mounts discs as drives and things can get screwed up).
4) Try reading the disc from a command prompt environment (outside of Windows).
5) Reinstall drive from Device Manager (if drive is listed). {I'd replace this with bigger process of remove upper/lower filters (see below)}.
6) Use MS System Restore to go back to a time when it was working.
7) Use PC-Doctor/HP Hardware Diagnostic software to check for a bad drive.
CD/DVD drive is missing (not in Windows Explorer or My Computer or in burning software)...
CD/DVD Drive is not Detected (Windows 7)
CD/DVD Drive is not Detected (Windows Vista)
CD or DVD Drive is not Detected (Windows 98, ME, or XP)
Summary:
1) See if the drive is listed in Device Manager (troubleshoot based on what you see).
2) Reset Power: Unplug power cord, press Power button for 10 seconds.
3) Check power and data cables attached to the drive and look in the BIOS for the drive name.
4) Remove upper/lower filters (see below).
5) Reinstall burning software
6) Get and CD/DVD drive firmware updates if available (to prevent missing drives in the future (I assume)).
7) Use MS System Restore to go back to a time when it was working.
Stuck Drawer...
Opening a Stuck CD or DVD Drive Tray
Summary:
1) Press eject button on case, on drive, button on keyboard (if exists).
2) Right-click drive icon in Windows and select Eject.
3) Turn off PC and inert a straightened paper clip into the manual release hole on the drive.
4) Check the power cord on the back of the drive.
MS FIXit, Resetting Upper and lower Filters (XP, Vista and 7)
First... try to use the MS Fixit (for Vista) if you are on the computer having the problem)...

Otherwise, here are the manual steps (overview):
1) Uninstall the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager and DO NOT RESTART the computer.
2) Uninstall your CD burning software (make sure you have the installation disc or you can resinstall from Start, Programs, PC Help and Tools, Recovery Manager (or Driver/Application Recovery). If you don't have the installation discs, skip this step - it might still work).
3) Open the registry editor (Start -> Run -> enter Regedit) ... might want to make a backup of the registry at this point.
4) Open the following keys:
+ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
+ SYSTEM
+ CurrentControlSet (or the current control set with lowest number if that is all that is listed)
+ Control
+ Class
5) Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. It has to be this exact key - make sure you can see the last numbers!!!
6) Delete the UpperFilter and or the LowerFilters value in the right window if either exists.
7) RESTART the computer - this step is important. Wait for Windows to find and install the CD/DVD drive you removed earlier.
8) Reinstall your burning software and restart the computer again.

That's why you want to make a backup of the registry. If you didn't make a backup, use MS system restore to go back. The only values you should remove are UpperFilter or LowerFilter - one or both may be in there and can be removed. If neither value exists, then that is probably why you can't burn and Windows is not recognizing your drive as a writable drive.
