Everyones Oracle Linux Problem solved!!!
Here's something Linux people should relate to: Use what works!
what works?
NT works! NT works great with 8i AND OAS.
No hassles at all!
Up and running within one day!!!!
Guaranteed!
U don't see a NT forum here with people having ridiculous install problems like Linux people?
Perhaps Oracle should moderate this newsgroup and even give an authorative answer or two?
null

I have switched our development and soon production databases to Linux because it runs like a charm. Fast and efficient, no problems. The installer has been a problem no doubt because Oracle put less of an emphasis on debugging their Linux installer than their idiot-proof NT installer.
By the way, I was able to circumvent installer problems by just linking svrmgrl to svrmgrlO; this avoided the dreaded segmentation fault and kicked everything open just fine.
BTW, about NT; what makes an OS is not how well everything works when everything is going well, but how bad it gets when something goes bad. For instance, the segmentation faults on Linux weren't a problem because I just picked up and continued; on NT you'd have to restart the whole system...not a pleasant feature.

  • Oracle Linux: Probleme mit Paketinstallation

    Hallo,
Weiß jemand, was ich falsch mache?
    Kiesel

    Hallo,
please note this is an English Forum. I'll give you a quick hint in German, in the hope to get you started.

    glibc-devel-2.5-49-x86_64 (This is a 64-bit package)
But I cant find them in the yum repositories.
If I query to my linux wihch version of glibc-devel are installed the output is

What is the version of EM that you are trying to Install? Is it 12.1.0.1 EM ?
    a) If this is em 12.1.0.1 then its a know issues to us which is fixed in next release ( you can refer bug:13833746 from MOS or open an SR to get more detail on this bug)
Run this below to make usre you have the packages.
    # rpm -qa --queryformat "%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}(%{ARCH})\n" | grep glibc-dev
    glibc-devel-2.12-1.80.el6(i686)
    glibc-devel-2.12-1.80.el6(x86_64)
Checking the pre-requisites step fails as it is looking for i386 instead of i686. (On OEL6, prefix i686 denotes the 32 bit package - and not i386). If the 32 bit and 64 bit glibc-devel packages are present on the system ( check it manually) this Warning can be safely Ignored. Continue with the installation. If you are not sure, pls log an SR with Oracle support and they will help you. Donot ignore the warning in case of any doubts, work with support to get it solved. If you ignore the warning and packages are not on the host then you will get linking error during the install.
    b) If this is em 12.1.0.2, pls log an SR and send me the SR number.

  • Oracle Linux 6.0 64 bit instalation problem

    Hi,
I downloaded Oracle Linux 6.0 64 bit from Oracle site. I unpacked it and burned it on dvd, but it can't boot so I can't install it. I could't do it even with virtual machine. I also put disk detection latency to 15 sec so I could give Linux enough time to boot, but it did't help. So any sugestion? :) I have core i7 2600 and Gigabyte UD4 P67 B3, bit I don't think it is a problem.
    Thx

This directory contains image files used during the Oracle Linux 6
    installation process.
The boot.iso file that is sometimes found in the images directory has
been removed for space reasons. It is available as a separate download
from ULN. boot.iso is an ISO 9660 image of a bootable CD-ROM. It is useful
in cases where the CD-ROM installation method is not desired, but the
CD-ROM's boot speed would be an advantage.
To use this image file, burn the file onto CD-R (or CD-RW) media as you
    normally would.
    From Images folder, installation DVD.
Can anyone tell me what to do

  • Oracle LINUX 6.3 ISO has problem

    Hi All,
I'm trying to install Oracle Linux 6.3 on my i5 desktop. Initially I installed it without disk check, the install was successfull but the OS would behave strangely. Buttons were invisible and messages on screen were not visible properly.
I tried installing it 3 times but at the time of install also button labels were missing.
Then I tested the DISK and it showed its corrupt.
Y'day I downloded the ISO from Oracle Official site (edelivery) again but disk test for it also failed.
I have Oracle 6.2 also and disk check for it was successfull.
But when I try to install it on my desktop my system goes in standby mode automatically.
    So tehre are issues
    1) Not able to install Linux 6.3 as downloads are corrupt.
    2) Not able to install Linux 6.2 as system gos in standby mode when booting from DVD.
    Thanks in advance.

You can verify the integrity of the ISO download by comparing your SHA-1 checksum with the information shown under the "View Digest" button at the Oracle edelivery download page. If the checksum is fine, the problem is your system.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 64bit install problem

    Hi all,
    I had a installation problem of 64bit Oracle Linux 6.2 with HP proliant dl380 g7 (build-in P410i array controller),
when i try to install the OS, it will keep in black screen after loading the vmlinuz.
I had try the 5.8 32bit version it can pass the vmlinuz.
So, I guess it may be related to driver.
Does any one can help me fix this problem.
    thanks,
    Kenny

I suggest to try the following:
When the bootloader screen prompts you to press any key to enter the menu... press any key.
Move the cursor to your default Linux kernel, normally Oracle Linux UEK and press the letter 'e'.
Move the cursor down 1 line to the kernel parameter and press the letter 'e' again.
    Add the word "nomodset".
If you want to see more details, remove "rhgb quiet"
Press the Enter key when done
Press the letter 'b' to boot the system
If all works, edit /etc/grub.conf and modify the kernel parameter line for a permanent change.

  • Problem installing Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 from Oracle e-Delivery

    Hello
I have been trying to install Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 from Oracle e-Delivery so that I can install Oracle 11g express edition beta.
Here are the steps that I took and the problem that I am having:
    1. I downloaded the file, unzipped the file twice, which gave me 3,042 files and 13 folders with the total size = 3.07 GB.
    2. I put in the DVD and restarted my PC hoping that my PC will boot from the DVD, but instead Window started.
I reported this issue to tech support from e-Delivery, but they referred me to contact you. Please assist.
    Julia

3,042 files and 13 folders with the total size = 3.07 GBWhich download .zip did you choose from edelivery? Under linux-x64 I peeked "Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 for x86_64 (64 Bit) - DVD" file V15099-01.zip downloaded, it has just the one .iso file. You'll need to burn that to DVD, but with burn s/w that handles ISO files.
Also keep in mind you'll need 64 bit hardware (amd/intel 64? itanium? those are different), the only *nix platform I've got handy to try it out is -x86 :(

  • Network problems with Oracle Linux 5.7 on Vmware ESX 4.1

We recently installed Oracle Linux 5.7 64 on Vmware in order to run OVM Manager 3.02. The VM experiences random frequent network connectivity problems. There are no errors showing up in the network stats. The Vmware environment hosts many production VMs with no issues. We did have some trouble configuring Vmware tools with the uek kernel, so we booted the vm with the base kernel and we were then able to configure Vmware tools with no problems. We have tried running the VM on two different ESX servers with no improvement.
The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions.
I am not very experienced with linux, being primarily a vmware and aix admin. Any tips on stabilizing Oracle Linux on Vmware are greatly appreciated otherwise, I will have to beg for a new server to host the OVM manager.
    Thanks,
    Bob

The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions. Before you check on software and driver updates you might want to check your hardware settings. I've seen problems like this before when using a bad network cable or having a duplex mismatch. The later can happen when changing from a router to a network switch and configuring the switch for fixed full duplex. Depending on which end you sit you won't even see any network errors, but packages will disappear depending on traffic. Make sure you have set server's NIC and network switch port to the same topology ie. fixed or auto-negotiate, but not mixed. You can use the "ethtool" on the Linux system to verify the current settings.

  • Problem Installing Oracle Linux 6.3 - 'Disc not found message box'

I'm trying to install Oracle linux on a old laptop. Single disk drive.
I downloaded V33412-01Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 3 Boot iso image for x86_64 (64 bit)
burned it as an ISO image on a CD.
Inserted the CD,started the system, cd booted and the installation started.
Skipped the verify media (I verifed it during another installation try)
    selected English
    selected US
When prompted for installation method, I tried selecting 'LOCAL CD/DVD' since that's where my CD is at. I get a 'Disc not found message box'.
I've also tried to select the /dev/sda1, which the installation accepted, only to fail later saying it can't find the ISO image.
I also tried putting the ISO image and unzipping the contents of the file onto a USB stick and selcting this during the install - same error.
I tried putting V33413-01 onto the USB stick and selcting that - its too big to burn on a CD, that didn't work..
Any ideas here? Though this was a easy installation but I'm scratching my head as to how to continue?

Not very clearly - for me at least.
Not sure - and not sure where to find instructions on how to do this.
It mentions that you don't need the source CDs
    Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 3 source DVD 1 V33413-01 3.1G
    Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 3 source DVD 2 V33414-01 1.7G
Not sure what to do with these anyway.
    Installation
To install Oracle Linux 6.3 from DVD media, follow the following steps:
    1. Download the compressed binary DVD images
Download Oracle Linux 6.3 DVD from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.
You do not need to download source DVDs to install Oracle Linux.
    2. Verify the downloaded media
Verify the downloaded file by comparing its sha1sum or md5sum with the published
    sha1sum or md5sum.
    3. Write the DVD image to DVD
Use your favorite cd burning software to write these images directly to DVD.
You should not simply copy the files onto the DVD. You must use a DVD burner
that can accept an ISO image as input, and which can create a bootable DVD
from it. To test if you have burned the images correctly, insert a burned
DVD and ensure that multiple files and directories are visible.
    6. Insert the DVD, and boot
Insert the DVD into your system, boot from DVD, and follow the on-screen instructions
    to deploy Oracle Linux!

Well problem solved. Of course it is strange, but.. Before update I installed fluidsynth and enabled to run it as daemon through rc.conf. Then was update and restart after that I had message that my sound card doesn`t work. I was thinking and decided to remove fluidsynth from daemons array. After restart everything works again. The strangest thing is that if I start fluidsynth daemon during system run(/etc/rc.d/fluidsynth start) everything works fine.

  • Oracle Linux Partitioning problem. Please help

    Hi,
I have installed ORACLE LINUX 6.3 guest on VirtualBox. I chose 100gb for disk space.
But when actually guest OS is created and checked with fdisk -l
I can see hda1/hda2 etc and space is divided into 50gb/50gb. what is this and why is this happening.
Now i want to install oracle ebs on it and when i create a folder like /u01/oracle folders. Its running out of memory as it needs 60 gb minimum memory.
then i reinstalled the software with 150gb space. again its divided it into 50gb/10gb/90gb hda1/hda2/hda3.
how to access these hda3 and how can i install ebs on hda3.
Sorry if i am asking foolish questions as i am very new to this linux os. I am really confused whatz happening. Please help
    Cheers
    Suresh

The OS installer has options to accept defaults or use custom partitioning. The automatic setup will simply divide the available space, assuming you want to use the whole disk for the OS. If you created a custom extra partition you will need to create a filesystem on it, then mount it and create an entry in /etc/fstab to mount it automatically. The OS has no idea what you want to do with the extra partition. What I would rather recommend is to use the standard for the OS, e.g. 12 GB dynamic HD and create one or more additional disks in the virtual machine setup. Then partition and format these extra disks to store your Oracle installation. There is no technical reason to create additional partitions and limit the setup to one hard disk.

  • Oracle Linux 5.7 kernel panic when installing R12

    Hi Everyone,
I've a small issue which I like to share and hopefully you are able to help solving it. I've downloaded and installed VMware Player 4 and Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.7 (32 bit) as a guest Virtual Machine on my Window 7 machine. I've also downloaded and extracted all the required zip files and folders for eBusiness released 12 (Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Media Pack for Linux x86 [32bit]) from the eDelivery web site. Then, I shared a Windows folder (containing those extracted folders of the R12 eBusiness files and folders) and mount it in the Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.7 under '/tmp/r12installfiles/'.
I ran the ./rapidwiz and the all the tests were OK and then I confirm installing R12 by hitting the 'Next' button. But for several times now, whenever it passes Step 2 when I navigate to the VM guest (because I was doing something on the main host - Window 7), the Oracle Linux OS was always blinking with 'Cap Locks' and 'Scroll Lock' keys and I believe it must have been linux kernel panic. And I could not proceed any further. I had this problem three times, whether I was installing the VISION database or the Fresh database, I still have the same error. It was very time consuming and frustrating. Does anyone have this problem?
Were there any steps that I've missed? Like patching the Linux OS before installing R12 or other steps or processes. Please provide the appropriate steps and instructions as well as the links where I could download them. Thank you for your assistance.
    Regards,
    John

    John,
Thank you for your reply, can you direct me the link for the Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86 [ID 761564.1]) document, please? Thank you.You can get it from MOS website -- Go to https://support.oracle.com and type your username/password then search for "761564.1" and you should get the doc.
