  • Where can I find everything about sockets?

    hi,
    i want to know everything about sockets (TCP), above all about all possible exceptions and when they are thrown. Until now, I can programm a normal chat programm. But sometimes I got problems with the sockets and then I solve them and I dont really know why. For example, it looks for me that if an outputstream of a socket is closed, the socket itself is closed. Well, I just need more infos about sockets, their streams, and exceptions (or maybe a good FAQ).
    thanx

    MmM you open them you close them and the rest is history.You use maltithreads with them but that depends on what you are doing.Also you might want to check out orb (Object request brokers) if you are wanting to do high level of network programming that deals with alot of clients.
    Also look into OMG (Object Manaement Group)and cobra
    Just a few thoughts if you are intrested in network programming.I take it you are since you are wanting to know all you can about sockets.
    Good luck

  • Can we have everything about Oracle in one drive?

    Hello, everybody,
    We got a backup database server. Since it is just for backup, we don't want to spend too much $ on this one.
    My question is: can we have everything about Oracle installled in the same drive?
    It means that Archive, Redo Logs, Oracle system itself, the data, etc will be loaded into one single drive.
    Is that OK?
    Any input will be highly appreciated?
    thx.

    It means that Archive, Redo Logs, Oracle system itself, the data, etc will be loaded into one single drive.Here's a piece of advice though, partition it to look like your prod server... it will make life much easier when moving datafiles.

  • I am a new Mac user, and I love everything about it!!!

    Hi to all fellow Mac users,
    That's it, I've finally had enough of Bill Gates and his crappy software. I tell you all now, if I ever saw him on the street, I couldn't guarantee I would say anything nice to him, quite the opposite.
    I met a friend from a drama club I go to, and after several playful arguments and games deciding what was better; Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows, I think the Apple Mac seemed to take over everything that Windows can do. Ok, an example, I do subtitled videos for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community... after several months of using Windows Movie Maker (apologies for the foul language) I decided to take my friend up on his offer. After 5 minutes of using Final Cut Pro... I was amazed. 5 simple words sum up my experience of subtitling on a Mac... easy, simple, FUN!, smooth, quick. It was fun to do, a challenge after suffering with another Bill Gates failed program, quicker and easier than I EVER thought it would be, and just to remind you all, that I have been a windows user for 9 years. I loved windows, I thought my Windows PC was my life, the music sounded great, I was happy with virus threats, and pop-ups from everywhere...
    I told my kind hearted friend that I have always wanted a laptop, so I could listen to music on the train, whenever I go to visit my folks, I could watch DVD's, videos etc... and he very kindly gave me his old Dell Latitude laptop.. (200MHz, 256MB RAM) It looked like it needed a facelift, and a new battery (the battery charge only lasted 3 minutes on a good day), so it constantly needed to be plugged in. Installed on this laptop was a new piece of Operating System I had never used before. Linux, Ubuntu. My friend told me that it used the UNIX system, and was fairly similar to a Mac. Over the moon, I disappeared never to be seen again, while I figured out how to use this machine. Easy - not bad, fun - ok, however I soon got bored of it. I wanted the Mac... I wanted a mac, REALLY BADLY.
    I came into a little bit of money, and now I have bought a second hand iBook G4. I have stopped sleeping with it now... after some strange looks from my girlfriend. (I'm not joking) However, I may have kicked it out of bed, but god I love this thing. No spy-ware... no ad-ware, no pop-ups, no viruses, no 'DLL ****' no goddamned Bill Gates ****-up of a Registry either. I seem to spend more time looking at this, because normally I would be clearing all the goodies that come with Windows... as mentioned above. The mac doesn't have it, it's smooth... even the cat has taken a fancy to it... (keeps sniffing it, it wont be long until he tried to bonk my ethernet port!) Even my grandma could probably use this... and she's 65 something. She doesn't even know how to turn on a computer!
    iTunes... iPhoto... iChat... *nods in satisfaction* Open source software, not bad stuff really. The only thing that I have to groan about the Mac is the price of their products... a little on the pricey side, but the one solution to that? Get a better job!
    But, what can I say... If you have the same problems with Windows as I have drivelled on about, get a mac... no, get a mac! I will not accept anybody using Windows. Get a mac. I wont repeat myself again, get a mac. Oops.
    Many thanks for reading,
    Kieran
    iBook G4 1.07GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Kieran,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions and the world of Mac!
    My 'rebirth' happened about 3 years ago after staying up all one night trying to clear the latest virus from my Windoze lappy. I've forgotten what it was called, there were so many. I do remember, though, that it was a juggling act trying to download the patch from M$ before the virus stopped me. Apparently that particular one was designed to do just that. (It blocked the download site, or was designed to overload it or something…?)
    I'd vaguely heard/read that Macs were supposed to be immune to such attacks so decided to explore…
    At the time PC World (dreadful place!) had a special offer on, what was then the new, eMacs. We went and had a look but 'er indoors hated the look of them, as I did. They had one poor, lonely iMac left, a 17", ( the model now known affectionately as the iLamp, ET or iGloo - see avatar ) which had been returned for, supposedly, one dead pixel. They had it sadly stowed away underneath the main display still in its box with a tatty handwritten 'Manager's Special' ticket on it with successive reductions marked. Cut a long story short, we got it for a stupidly low price, about 40% off list, & we gave it a home.
    I had great fun playing with it and after only 10 minutes felt totally at home with its GUI. After another couple of hours of 'playing' I thought it was time to do some serious stuff and try and get some of our files off the Windows 'thing' onto the iMac. I was a total tyro at networking and didn't even know how to begin so everything got burned to CDs on the lappy and put onto the iMac that way, where compatible. (I've still never ventured into the dark arts of Win/Mac networking, I've never had to.) What shook me though was, even after only two hours on the iMac, how 'kiddy' the XP interface seemed, like it was a FisherPrice toy computer compared to the Mac (Jaguar) interface.
    The iMac soon had company when my iBook joined the family. ('Er indoors quickly appropriated the iLamp for her eBay business) Now I prefer the iBook, the iMac keyboard seems so clunky after the iBook's. My only regret is that I didn't go for a larger HD when I ordered it. 30GB doesn't go anywhere these days. Yet my first, very own XP machine only had 3.2GB!
    From those early days we've never looked back. I've gone out of my way to learn more about Macs mainly through this forum and other online resources, but there's no way I'd consider myself any kind of expert. I shy away from most things 'Terminal' sticking to sudo periodics and the like. Occasionally I have to 'face' a Windows machine, and hate it. Everything just seems so difficult and non-intuitive, but maybe that's because I am out of practice. To be honest, I don't really care. Windows is not something that I have the slightest inclination to re-familiarise myself with.
    Would I change back? I think I've answered that!
    Enjoy your Mac and visit frequently. 'Here' is an invaluable, free resource that can answer most of your questions via the search box or just browsing. And if you're still stuck anytime someone will always go out of their way to help.
    Take care,
    Adrian
    ps The iMac's still going strong and I never did find that that 'dead pixel'. His loss, my gain!
    pps Watch that cat, they love the warmth of laptop keyboards which, of course, increases the longer the cat lies on it until....poof! Overheated iBook and singed cat. Sometime during the last week or so, someone posted about their cat who, when asleep on the keyboard, could mysteriously activate the password to wake it up! I kid you not, have a scroll back.
    ppps I used to live very close to Derby; Ilkeston then later, Heanor

  • Serious Issues tried everything, about to give up

    Hey there,
    Here's the story:
    Downloaded some new music for the first time in a couple weeks, went to plug my 3rd gen iTouch in to sync and iTunes said I had an update available for iTunes and Itouch, both got updated. After iTunes finished, iTouch wasn't being discovered. I tried to restore, which deleted all my music from my ipod and left me with the connect to itunes screen. After about 2 weeks of searching the net and trying different things I finally got iTunes to recognize it again by having to use Windows Vista working information to overwrite some stuff on my Windows 7 Itunes. Now it says I need to connect it to another computer to restore (error message 13). So i do this... All is well again! Yay! Not so much, now i have to rewrite my iTunes library and figure out why my Wifi and bluetooth are greyed out and not accessible. I decide its not really worth it right now, i'm not to worried about the wifi so i just rewrite the library. I sync all my music, test it out and everything works. So i decided to try the wifi this morning just in case, start with the basics by turning the ipod off and letting iTunes turn it back on when connected, MISTAKE! Now im back to the connect ipod to itunes screen and error message 13. This is getting EXTREMELY annoying...
    Anyone know what to do to fix my error message 13 and wifi?

    Same thing happend to me and my daughter, ended up with 2 comatose touches. Apple was no help (big surprise!). My son is a Mac fan and was able to restore everything on his Mac but all was lost again when synced to my HP or Dell, finally got it to be a toy with apps but no music. ****** as I am at Apple, I bought a Mac and got another touch for free, synced my old touch to the Mac and all is well. Buying a Mac may not be the best alternative if you are not in the market for one--Apple answering a question would be a better alternative. Obviously my 2 are not the only Touches to experience this problem and Apple will do nothing! Apple Store was very helpful but their thoughts, recommendations, etc. didn't seem to match corporate Apple's since I did what they recommended and basically got the middle finger from customer service and support at Apple. Good luck!

  • SharePoint 2010 question about alert to external user

    Any ideas about how to implement an alert within SharePoint 2010 that would cause an alert to be sent to a user outside of one's organization when the value of an "Assigned To" column within a list is set to that external user's e-mail address?

    It should just work. Make sure to check your mail flow (e.g. Exchange server transport logs) to validate the mail is leaving the organization. Also make sure that the user that it is Assigned To has an email address assigned to them in the User Information
    List (for their User account).

  • Everything about HD cameras

    Ok so I don't know much about HD cameras but this is what im looking for.. Right now I have a normal mini dv camera and the quality is alright on it but I want to upgrade to an HD or just something better then that..I film a lot of action sports like wakeboarding surfing things like that I go out on the water on tubes with a waterproof case and film, so im not looking for anything real expensive because it is semi dangerous taking that stuff out on the water even with the cases and everything... I have been looking at consumer level HD cameras like the canon hv-10 and the canon hv-20 but I seem to find a lot of post talking about editing on final cut pro and how its difficult with these type of cameras is there any camera that final cut pro 6 can work good with? I have also looked at the canon gl-2 its a little higher but not to bad.. So If anyone has any input at all on HD cameras please post on here I don't know much at all about HD cameras or how to capture and edit the footage since im just now wanting to get into that so any type of post is helpful..

    I film a lot of action sports like wakeboarding surfing things like that I go out on the water on tubes with a waterproof case and film, so im not looking for anything real expensive because it is semi dangerous taking that stuff out on the water even with the cases and everything
    And yet people do this all the time with super16mm film cameras and high end HD cameras...can't be THAT dangerous...

    FCP works with them FINE. Capture 1080i60 and you are set. It is the people who want to capture 23.98fps because they THINK they MUST work in that format for things to look and be right that are having problems. You can capture 1080i from that camera fine.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Everything about iOS 4.0 (Including Instructions & Features)

    Hey guys,
    Just to clear some stuff up I decided to type this.
    _4.0 Installation_
    Step 1. Plug iPhone into computer via USB and make sure you have downloaded iTunes 9.2 by either go to iTunes and under "Help" tab hitting "Check for Updates" or go to iTunes page on Apple.com
    Step 2. When iTunes opens, wait until it detects your iPhone/iPod Touch. (Sometimes hitting the home button will wake up iTunes and detect it)
    Step 3. Once detected hit "Check for an Update" and the download process will begin and after it will install if told to.
    _New Features_
    -Multitasking > By double tapping the home button on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch 3rd Gen only, it will bring up apps you have viewed previous and you're able to flick through and tap an app you want to view. To delete an app from multitask, simply hold down an app until they start wiggling and hit the minus button next to the app you want to remove.
    -Folders > To bring up a folder, simply drag an app onto another app you wish to create a folder with and BAM! your folder is created. Within each folder you can hold down an app until they wiggle and change the name of that folder and organize as well as remove and add apps to that folder. Up to 12 apps per folder is the max.
    -Mail > The new mail app (to get the unified inbox and newer look you must have two or more e-mail accounts set up) features a new all in one inbox to receive emails from all your accounts into one place.
    -YouTube > Hasn't changed a whole lot other than you can now while viewing a video view in portrait or landscape (left and right landscape) by simply titling your device.
    -App Store > New plus buttons next to some apps you wish to purchase. (Could someone please tell me what these mean?) You can also gift apps.
    -Camera > New 5x zoom in the camera by tapping the screen once in camera mode and adjusting the slider. Video mode now has tap to focus, but no zoom yet.
    -Photos > Photos can be organized in videos, pictures, or all together categories. New Places can detect photos and videos you've taken previous to installation or after and show you on a map where they were taken.
    -Calendar > You can sync calendars with your e-mail as well as have a birthday calendar included from contacts or just by adding them.
    -Notes > You can search notes in the app by swiping down on the note selection page and tapping the search box. These can also be synced with email accounts.
    -Tethering > You can now tether through AT&T from your device to the computer's internet.
    -Wallpaper > In settings, you can now set wallpaper for your lock screen and home pages as well as both for a smoother looking transaction from lock screen to home screen.
    -Safari > You are now able to view suggestive sites while searching and Bing is now an available search provider. While using the keyboard, you can now tilt to landscape or portrait.
    -Utilities (Clock, Calculator, Compass, Voice Memos) Clock, Voice Memos, and Compass pretty much stayed the same and same with calculator other than a new app icon.
    -Location is in use > You can now know if you're using your location within an app because next to the battery it will show an arrow.
    -Maps > No big changes other than when using your location or to find you, the button in the bottom left corner is an arrow now.
    -iBooks > Now available for free download off the App Store for iPhone. Download books and read them instantly from your virtual bookshelf which has a search if you scroll up and a fancy engraved Apple logo. Within the book you can swipe through pages, adjust brightness, and bookmark your spot.
    -GameCenter > Unavailable at this time, but should be up later this year.
    -iPod (Music) remote > Simply double tap the home button to get multitasking, then swipe right to access the left side (or as far left as you can possibly go) and you will see five icons. A refresh looking sign, rewind, play/pause, fast forward, and an iPod app icon. Rewind arrows skip to the previous song or hold down to rewind through the song. Same goes for the fast forward arrow. When using an app like Pandora (will need the latest update for it) you can use those same controls but instead of showing an iPod icon next to the remote buttons, it will show a Pandora app icon.
    -Potrait Lock > To access this, do the same thing as mentioned above to get to the Music Remote. There will be a refresh looking icon, click that and everything will be locked in portrait mode as well as a notification in the top right corner of your phone. To turn off, simply tap it again.
    -iPod > You can now create playlists!
    -Messaging > You can now search messages.
    -New Spell Check > You now have a suggestive spell check.
    -Bluetooth Keyboards > You can now use wireless keyboards on the phone.
    Anything I missed please let me know. Thanks!

    -App Store > New plus buttons next to some apps you wish to purchase. (Could someone please tell me what these mean?) You can also gift apps. >>>>>>>>>>>>> I suspect that means universal app for iPhone and/or iPad.
