Everything erased by a "genius"?

So my imac has been freezing about 3-5 times a day for the past month, but I have been swamped with design work for school that I have no had time to go in and get it checked out. Today I went to the genius bar and for about 3 hours they do tests and all that jazz and they decide to reinstall osx with an archive. They do that and it turns out something is wrong with my motherboard and they say that since I ordered it online I would have to go through the website/phone to get it replaced. So I get homeand plug it in and all my files are gone (which they told me where archived?) am I missing something? or did they just completely lie to me and erase my hard drive?
I found a folder called previous systems, but none of my files are in there. Also it says I have 424.24 GB avaliable, which I know is alot more than what I had when I went there. I also tryed tofind themthrough spotlight with no luck. any ideas?

Did they possible create another account from which they did the install? How many user accounts show up in HD/Users.

I dont know what happened but I went to open itunes today and everything in it was erased and it says "itunes currupt file please run the chkdsk utility" WHat is that and how do I get all of my stuff back?? PLEASE HELP

OK, first, calm down.
Secondly - you say "iTunes corrupt file please run chkdsk" - do you mean the iTunes.exe wouldn't open, or that iTunes opened and then gave a dialog with that message? If the first is true, then it's probably iTunes, and not your music collection, that is corrupted.
You can check whether your music still exists by going to you My Music folder, which is where iTunes puts your music unless you've told it to do different. Go check. If the music is still there, then it's a problem with your iTunes application. Your music collection is not lost.
Next, back up your PC. Then, go to My Computer, right click on the primary hard drive (usually C:\) and click Properties. Then go to the Tools tab and click the "Check Now" button under "Error-checking". It will probably tell you to restart your PC. Do so.
After that, if your PC is OK, I would try reinstalling iTunes. It may be that your hard drive is on the way out though (depends how old your computer is), which is why data is becoming corrupted. Hopefully that won't be the case though.

All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
When music was purchased on a CD, if the CD was lost and you returned to the store where the CD was purchased with your receipt, were you given a replacement CD?

I use to have over 8,700 songs in iCloud and then all of a sudden all of my devices erased everything and then randomly added some songs here and there and now I only have about 600 songs.

Go to the top of the iTunes window and put the cursor over track name. Click the arrow to the right of the now playing track name and Go to Song.

Your apps and profile data will remain. Make sure its reset all settings.
The only settings that disappear usually are mail push intervals, brightness settings, wallpaper set, your blacklist & whitelist on notification settings & location services.

Will itunes music erase if ipod is loaded to new library?

Something odd happened with my itunes library yesterday. I was using the itunes library on my computer, I needed to turn off the itunes so I clicked on the red x in the top right corner like I always do. The itunes program closed for about 3 seconds before it popped back up with an empty library which is now named "C" and some of the songs are multiples. I tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes, but the same library pops up, presumably because my music folder is still within the computer. If I were to delete the music folder, and then delete itunes, re-install itunes and then connect my ipod, would all my music from my ipod automatically go to the new library, or would everything erase and be sycned to the new blank library?
My ipod is up to date with all of my music, but I'm afraid to purchase anymore music since the ipod library and this mystery "C" library do not sync.

what do you mean, 'erased MobileMe'? When you migrated from MobileMe your calendars wwere transferred to iCloud and appear in the calendars list in iCal under 'iCloud'. MobileMe calendars appeared under your login name.
Unsubscribing from MobileMe calendars would not affect iCloud, so what else did you do?
Your calendars are probably still on iCloud - check at http://icloud.com and navigate to Calendar.
If so you can simply re-enable them in iCal - go to Sytem Preferences>iCloud anc check 'calendars' - if it's checked already, uncheck it then recheck it.

Flashing question mark on powerbook G4 I screwed up! Tried to get into original state on Tiger 10.4.11 and wound up coming up with 9.2.2 for a short time and now just flashing question mark?

This was stupid of me. I have tried everything to get back to the basic OS. There is no worry about what is on the hard disk, because I wanted everything erased anyway. My original disk has 9.2.2 and 10.3 on it. I understand that the problem is that it was running on 10.4.11 great and then the system got confused when I installed the older system disk. i have tried everything what the support community suggested to me on-line and hopefully someone can help me to get the system reset.
I have been to the Apple Genius bar, however they told me that the system was to old and they lack the tools. this Powerbook does not have a firewire port and I guess this constitutes one of the problems. I applied the original to two other Mac Books - newer vintages - and it worked OK.

You will have to resintall your OS. You will need your Tiger installer DVD to reinstall Tiger. If you have not already erased the drive (still have the old Tiger system on it:)
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
If you do not have your Tiger DVD then you will have to reinstall 10.3, but to do that you will have to erase the hard drive first.

Creative MediaSource not detecting my creative zen to

I'm having trouble with my Creative Zen Touch. In Creative MediaSource, in the sources part on the left hand side, it does not detect my Creative Zen Touch and therefore i cannot transfer music. Any help would be much appreciated. PS when i plug my Creative Zen Touch into the computer using the usb port, the computer detects the device and i have an option to "take no action" or "Transfer files using Windows Media Player".

I am also having this problem, but in order to download from the zen to the pc, I will have to have everything erased off the Zen, and there is an important recording I want to load to my PC first. There is no where in my creative media source since I updated my firmware to load from Zen to PC like there used to be. Any suggestions?

Can't access iPod Classic 160GB. NEED a backup.

Hi, I've got a 6th gen. 160GB iPod Classic and I need a backup of the songs I've got in it.
Basically what is happening is the same thing that happened when I installed Mavericks and tried to use my WD hard disk: I wasn't able to mount it nor repair it so, Disk Utility, told me to back up everything, erase and then restore the whole thing. (in this process I lost part of my music library, that's why I'm here)
The problem lies in the fact that once, with my WD hard disk, I just clicked "ok" on the message that told me to follow those steps and the hard disk appeared on the desktop, thus allowing me to back up almost all I needed to but not with the iPod. I click ok and nothing happens.
I tried rebooting it, I tried to put it in Disk Mode and I tried to connect it to other computers; always the same outcome.
I am not searching for a permanent solution since in a week or less I'll have a new one (this one's headphone jack is ****** up and Apple will replace the whole device); all I want is to be able to access it as an external disk and recover what I have inside.

P.S. I was using DeTune and everything was working fine, I disconnected the iPod to use it while running, got back, connected it again and now it doesn't work.

Everything that was on your classic should also have been in your library, and that backed up to another drive. If you manually managed the device, and it was the only location holding your media, and it has become corrupted, there really isn't much hope. See Corrupt iPod classic. There may be a slim chance to recover media stored on it via disc mode if is isn't stored elsewhere, but if it won't mount, or has been reformatted, then the moment has probably passed.

IPod Touch 4G shows in iTunes but won't start a session with PC

So.. I do get an error message saying that a session could not be started with the iPod, or as it says in Swedish "iTunes kunde inte säkerhetskopiera iPod-enheten "namn's iPod" eftersom en session inte kunde startas med iPod".
The iPod does show up in iTunes and I can view all my music, apps and stuff, but when I try to sync it I just get the error message.
Why is that?! I haven't dared to do any drastic things such as rebooting my PC or iPod since I know I'll probably loose everything on both, but I did restart everything, erase the earlier safetycopy of the iPod and such.
I have tried to google an solution but have only found similar questions with no answer.

Try connecting your ipod to another computer and sync only 1 file or song just for isolation purpose only to see if it'll sync.
If still not syncing, then porbably you may have a bad iOS installed in iPod which is hard to see if it has a problem because you said nothing's wrong with iPod. I just saying is, it MIGHT have a bad iOS.
If you are unable to do a restore, put your ipod in DFU mode, then connect to iTunes and iTunes will detect your ipod in restore mode. Press shift key (PC keyboard) then click the restore button on iTunes. I hope you have your copy of IPSW file for restoration purposes.
