Everything got erased?
Well, I got a iPod touch 16gb model about 5 days ago. Worked fine, and everything got a video and about 10 songs (from CD's) on there. and I bought a $15 iTunes giftcard redeemed it and bought about $12 in apps

Well, yesterday about 12 I received a file from a internet 'friend' scanned it with a virus scan. Nothing showed up, opened up and I got the most fake error message in the world It was something like "WE CANt FinD A COMpoENT!!!!!!!!!!!"
so, I decided it was more than likely a virus and he admitted to it.. So I reformatted my computer because no virus scans I used could find it. Well, after that's done, I install iTunes and connect my iPod. Everything was restored to default and I can get my songs and videos back (because i have to cds) but I don't want to have to re-buy the apps, what do I do?
If you sign-in to the iTunes Store using the same account the you used when you bought the apps, you can download them again for free. As long as the apps are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free, and if you are in a country where you can re-download music then you should be able to re-download them as well : what you can re-download for free will appear under the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes

Yes you can sync them to another computer or to the same one, but since it will effectively be a new iTunes library, you will be prompted to transfer purchases or erase and sync. You can transfer your purchases to get the content back on your computer, and this article will help with that.

As far as your calendars, contacts, reminders and notes, if you you are not already using icloud, I would sign into iCloud and sync that content to the Cloud so no data is lost.

I had alot of work on my computer from school and after I downloaded maverick I had to force shut down the computer becasue it wasn't loading. After that when i booted it up, EVERYTHING got deleted and is there anyway I could get it back? well i think u really lost ur work and data, so u need to redo again all the stuff...
and that's the reason i haven't upgrading my OS, bcoz I have the same issue I'm affraid that all my third apps lost.
next time u should buy HDD Ext so u can backup through time machine before upgrading OS. -

Um actually i know the back up password. The only problem is i cant restore my back up on to my iphone since the bak up is crrupted. And im wondering if the photos and stuff will still be seen in the back up folder if it is corrupted. My mom says its fine if the data in our iphone got erased. But did the photos save in the itunes? Can we view it even though the files are corrupted? If i cant how can i repair it? What if the back up file is erased becoz of the new dates? How can i retrieve them? Can iexplorer open a corrupted file? Latly can someone give me an application to retrieve all the files? Without purchasing it?! Plssssss answer! Im doomed!

iCloud password works on everything but erasing all data. I got a new iPhone and need to wipe this one but am not sure how else to do this since the password is not working. Any suggestions?
Firefox also makes regular backups of your bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups in your personal settings folder. You can restore the backup to your new Firefox, but unlike importing the HTML-format file, it is a complete drop-in replacement, so if you have saved new bookmarks you do not want to lose, the export/import method may work better for you.
By default, Windows hides your personal settings folder so the easiest way to access it is from inside Firefox. You can use either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a window showing your Firefox settings files.
You might want to back up this whole folder if you have other data you want to preserve from your XP computer.
Either way, you should find the bookmarkbackups folder here and when you click into it, find maybe 10 files with dates in their names.

Did you have them after updating Firefox, or did you lose your passwords as well. If you lost everything you either created a new profile and are in it, or you accidentally/intentionally cleared your history (see picture link). If you cleared your history, the changes are permanent and they are gone.

There was somthing wrong with my hard drive, and I had to take it to the apple store and they erased everything on my computer and put in a new hard drive.

Welcome to Discussions.
You can use Senuti or iPodRip to transfer the songs from the iPod to the computer.
They might not get all playlists back, but they do get all music files.

The iPod backup that iTunes makes before updating does not included synced media like apps and music. If that media is not in the iTunes library it will not be restored to the iPod during a latter part of the update. -
