Everything I change in iTunes reverts.

Something is very, very wrong.
Song names, album names, album art, playlist names, playlist content, etc., etc, etc... When I change them, they revert.
This has been going on for over a week, now. Since Wednesday, I've changed the metadata on certain albums or songs as many as 10 or 12 times. Generally speaking, all changes revert -- sometimes within a few minutes, sometimes an hour or more later.
I'm not a novice. I'm actually the one my friends call to help them fix their Mac and iPhone problems. I have 3 Macs (all running Mountain Lion), an iPhone, and an iPad. This all began when music I'd added to iTunes on my MacBook Pro wasn't showing up on my iPhone. Eventually I turned off iTunes Match on the iPhone, logged out of my account, then logged back in to see if it would populate correctly. It did not.
So I disabled Match on both the iPhone and iPad, and turned to concentrate on the computers.
The new music I added to iTunes is fine, but then I noticed that several albums whose info I'd modified a week ago had reverted to their original state. So, I fixed that, but noticed a few others. So, while watching TV, I started browsing through album view, fixing whatever needed to be fixed. But then, I'd see -- an hour or so later -- that all of those changes had reverted to their original state. For the last few days, I've spent hours changing metadata (while watching TV -- lol), only to have it all revert.
After reading thread after thread, I followed the advice I saw a few times:
Turn off iTunes Match while holding down the Option key, then sign out of my account, then quit iTunes while holding down the Option key, then restart the computer, then fire everything back up. I disabled everything on all 3 Macs, and I'm now working in iTunes on just one of them -- desperately just trying to get the info on that one machine correct, thinking that I can then populate that data over to the other computers and devices.
Except I can't get the data to "stay still," even on this one Mac! This is beyond frustrating.
In one particular case, I have 17 albums by one artist -- most of which came from the CDs in a box set. But I prefer to show albums with their original artwork, so I had split them into the 17 albums. However, I had used an odd naming convention in the Album field, something like this:
BoxSet - 1|OriginalTitle1
BoxSet - 2|OriginalTitle2
...and so forth, for all 17 albums. Well, I decided that was cumbersome, so I changed them all to just their original titles, and renumbered everything with Doug's "Albumize" script. Everything was perfect. But 20 minutes later -- they were all back with the long names I had assigned, some time ago.
I've tried all sorts of things I've read in threads, including selecting "Update iTunes Match" immediately following the modification of data. I'm fully aware that we shouldn't have to do that -- it's supposed to be automatic. But I'm desperate. I also realized that most of those had been ripped at 192k, so (upon the advice someone in of another thread), I deleted those files (but not from iTunes Match), then redownloaded them at 256k, then again selected "Update iTunes Match."
I've just been throwing "the kitchen sink" at this problem.
Last night, I'd say about 40-50% of those 17 albums seeme "stable." Today I've replaced the others another several times, and now about 15 of the albums seem stable. But it seems like I could wake up tomorrow and find that a few of them have reverted again.
The same is occurring on individual songs that I've modified -- metadata, artwork, whatever.
I'm losing my mind, here -- and this is just with one computer signed into iTunes Match. I'm afraid of what might happen when I begin connecting my other computers and devices back to the service.
It's as if Match isn't keeping track of which changes are new. It's defaulting to old data, instead of giving priority to new data.
If anyone has any further suggestions, they'd be most welcome. With no one from Apple officially monitoring or replying to these discussions, one wonders if they're even aware of these issues.

Well, that's just it -- the deletions weren't replicating, so they were in fact a major issue.  :-)  Although the metadata within individual songs stabilized, the playlists still had a mind of their own: If I deleted one, it would reappear in less than 5 minutes; if I renamed or modified one, it would revert to its previous state.
So, I ended up doing the "worst-case-scenario" reset.
I encountered a few inconsistencies between that article and what I experienced, as well as some easier ways to do things.
For example, he has a protracted way of forcing iTunes to create a new, temporary library, when all it takes is either renaming the iTunes library or just moving it to the desktop.) I also had to force iTunes to create a new library a total of 3 times, as it seemed to get "stuck" after I'd deleted several thousand tracks and would refuse to allow me to delete any more. Anyway, those steps, in combination with sometimes waiting overnight for things to settle, got me 99% of the way back. (I'm sharing these details for the benefit of other readers.)
Even after completing that process, I still had some stubborn playlists. But after waiting overnight (again), I was finally able to delete those.
BTW, I highly recommend Playlist Manager (donationware; I'm not affiliated), which dramatically sped up the process for me:
http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=playlistmanager
It allowe me to save (export) all of my playlists to a folder in one step.
Finally, after getting my MacBook Pro back to normal, I chose to turn iTunes Match back on -- first on my iPhone. After a few hours, all seemed OK, but a few, stubborn playlists on my MBP simply would not show up on my iPhone, even after jiggering them by changing a name or adding a song. In those cases, I deleted the current copy of the playlist, then reimported it using Playlist Manager -- then, magically, they appeared on the iPhone within a few minutes.
For now, I'm omitting the notes I took while performing the "worst-case-scenario" reset. But if anyone thinks those notes would be helpful, I can post them later.
And thanks again, mracole, for your input!

I bought my iMac from someone. Everything was changed over to my name however when I try to update programs it only shows the old users apple ID and I can't update. How do I change this so I can update the applications and have everything fully under me?

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.

  • Secure link to itunes store failed computer not connected to internet tried ununininstalling everything to do with itunes no joy also error code coming up E0000225 anybody out there got any ideas

Secure link to itunes store failed, (computer not connected to internet tried uninstalling everything to do with itunes,no joy also errror code E0000225 appearing. Have turned off windows firewall and also my Bullguarg security settings. Can anybody out there please help me thanks.

    Hi,
You could be right that the response to clicking on help is a symptom of an entirely separate issue, but nevertheless the secure link to itunes is definitely failed, and I am unable to log into Itunes on either PC.
I also noticed that even if I click on the link to create a whole new Apple ID, I cannot do that either, presumably because the secure link is not working.
After I noticed that there were weird things happening this morning, I did change my Apple ID password in the hope that this might resolve it, but it seemed to make it worse.  Now, all of my apple devices keep constantly prompting me for the apple ID password, and randomly either accepting it, or telling me it is wrong.  I know the password is correct because I can log onto the apple Manage My Apple ID screens in a web browser with it.
I was starting to think that this is an ISP issue (BT Broadband), but I have not seen anyone else posting with the same issue.  Does Apple use a different security protocol to everyone else?  I'm asking because all other secure services seem to be working fine, but anything related to apple that requires a secure connection or authentication is having issues.
I have also seen reference to making sure that Itunes is listed as an allowed program in Windows Firewall.  I cannot seem to do this because it says that my Windows firewall is being managed by McCafee.  I have checked the settings in McCafee, and it appears to me that Itunes, Bonjour, and many other apple programs have been granted "Full" access.  As said before in any case I have tried temporarily disabling the firewall and even this did not solve the problem.

How do I change The Itunes library to a new comutor which will then synch with my Iphone? Thanks.

  • How do i change my itunes backup location for my ipod touch 4th gen?

I was tlkaing to my dad and noticed that my C: drive is rather low on space and i was shocked cause of how i do not install games and unnecessary stuff on tehre and one of the biggest folders was my itunes backup for my 4th gen I-pod Touch 32 gig.
Well I looked in itunes and I looked under preferences and then advanced preferences the place to change the Itunes media folder, but need ot know if that also includes everything like apps, my songs, etc or if i am looking in the wrong place. I really want to move those 13 gigs of backup off of C: to another drive that has more space, also not sure if I'd need to re-install anything on a drive or not. So any help in this matter is appreciated.

Not that easy but can be done:

  • ITunes Music Folder Location changed, but iTunes still uses old location

Okay - I'm getting a bit frustrated here. Because I had no room on c:, I moved all my iTunes preferences -- applications I downloaded for the iPod Touch, file settings, and all that stuff -- to my D:\ drive. Then I went to Preferences > Advanced and changed the iTunes Music Folder location to my D: drive.
Everything SEEMED to have looked good. Or so I hoped.
The 40+ applications I bought are no longer listed on the Applications purchased list. Further, all my files are STILL saving to the c: drive.
How do I FORCE iTunes to acknowledge that the D:\ drive is storing my iTunes preferences and files?!

OK, now I get what you're trying to do. I think!
I run my ITL file off my exHD, so all my Artwork & Applications are stored there. I think if you try running your ITL file from the D: drive it will do what you want.
    Try this
    1) close itunes & wait for the library ITL file to save ( I assume it's still on C: hence that's why artwork/apps are DLing there)
    2) copy that ITL file over to the D: drive
    3) press and hold the shift key while starting itunes and choose the ITL file on D:
Now all your future artwork/apps shoudl download to D:, try it by getting a free app.

Hi! • I use itunes to store my music but I use Virtual DJ Broadcaster to play it. Somehow itunes has changed from Itunes Music Library to Itunes library. Virtual DJ does not Recognize the change.

I use itunes to store my music but I use Virtual DJ Broadcaster to play it. Somehow itunes has changed from Itunes Music Library to Itunes library. Virtual DJ does not Recognize the change. Virtual DJ  at present seeing an older version of my libraries. Is it possible to Save my last library and Playlist and re-name everything else in my itunes account so it will again show "Itunes Music Library" Past libraries are of no consiquence . I'm hoping removing everything except  the last Library on my computers will make Virtual DJ  recognize it. I tried renameing  the Library to "Itunes Music Library" but it did not work. I fear the problem is in the Registry and without the correct path I am reluctand to play around  in there. Any help would be appreciated.

Incidentally, my first thought was to map a network share from the NAS to my computer, so that my music files appear on the Z: drive, say on my computer. I could then set up iTunes to store music etc in that folder, and to copy all new items to that folder. However, if I do that, all that'll happen is that on my NAS, the library file will become out of date as I add music to the collection but not to the index.

  • How do I change my iTunes account ID to my Apple ID?

I originally set up my iTunes account with an ID or username and password that is different from my Apple ID and password. I have been told that I can change my iTunes account ID to be the same as my Apple ID, but I can find no instructions on how to do that. Can anyone who has done this advise me as to how it is done?

I have the same problem and please let me know if you have received any news in regards. I have tried to call the support which I even pay for via my Mac Pro and got cut off twice and the last time I could not wait anymore. Here is my problem. My partner set me up with my current main email (gmail) but I want to use my mobileme account for everything for keeping things simple and also to fully utilise the benefit of the package, any ideas on how to do it?

And would someone please tell me that this won't screw up everything!
    Thanks in advance.

    There are 3 options:
    1) Edit the default zone URL from CA --> Application Management --> AAM --> Select the web application
Click on http://intranet.abc.com and change it to http://www.abc.com
Extend the web application to some any other zone with URL http://www.abc.com
    3) Create a new web application with URL http://www.abc.com, Detach the content db/s from http://intranet.abc.com and attach it to newly created web application (Note: If you follow this option, it may break customizations)

  • I have contacted your support, wordpress's and feedburner to change my itunes description and image. I have been going round myself for ever now all are helpful but I reached nowhere. Can any one help me????

    Hi All,
I started bloging and podcasting about two years ago and I tried more than one platform for blogging and for podcasting. At last I settled on wordpress.com for blogging and through which I started my podcast on itunes. After sometime I found that it was important to change the image as well as the description found on itunes. Here all the problems started. I have been trying for about one year to change how my podcast looks on itunes but there is no hope. I contacted itunes support and wordpress support who are both very helpful but they told me that the problem is not from their side. I tried to change my feed through feedburner more than once but nothing changed.
    The blog url: http://casa-egypt.com/
    The itunes url: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/mhtt-kasa-msr-casa-egypt-broadcast/id3981772 21?mt=2&ign-mpt=uo%3D4
There are two feeds shown here:           http://feeds.feedburner.com/CasaEgyptBroadCast
                                                              http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroacast
I sure have played a lot and I think that I messed up my blog and my feed and my podcast but really I do not know exactly where I messed things up. This is one of the mails that I sent to both itunes and wordpress support with some modifications and I am sending it now on this forum in case anyone could help me.
I have always thought that I have one podcast but on the itunes program on my computer I found two almost identical podcasts with the title "محطة كاسا مصر" (this is written in Arabic only) and another one with both Arabic and English "محطة كاسا مصر- Casa Egypt Broadcast". When I right clicked the image on the left I found a "Show Description" button in the drop down menu. I clicked it for both podcasts and I found that the image of the Arabic podcast (the upper one on the itunes image) disappeared but the description was updated unlike the the Arabic English one in which the exact opposite happened. I tried to open both in itunes store but both showed the old unchanged image and description.
I really don't know which one is the correct one for my blog as both display the same episodes. By the way, I used to have a lot of other posts but I do not know where they went. Now I don't care about those lost or hidden episodes as much as I care about the other issues I have.
This is the Arabic only one. (I want the description but there is no image here)
This is the Arabic English one. (I want the image but not the description).
As you can see from both images that the url shown in both information boxes are different. I am trying to contact any one from feedburner support but I do not know how to reach them as I think that the problem is in it. Or can you tell me how to edit my feed so as to be able to change my itunes looks?
Your help will be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dina

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for your reply.
    My original feed is: http://casa-egypt.com/feed/
However, because I modified the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast and nothing changed, I redirected it to another feed and then I deleted this feed.
Is there any way to change the feed in itunes? The only feed I have now is  http://feeds.feedburner.com/CasaEgyptStation
I tried to restore the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast but feedburner refused.
I know that I missed things up but I still have hope in working things out.
    Thanks is advance.

How can i purchase an app of japan store without change my itunes store? i have balance in my US ac so i cant change my stores, but the app i want to purchase in jp store is a free app.... i know apple dun allow balance spend in other countries but it is a free app

You cannot use the Japanese iTunes Store unless are physically present there and have a Japanese payment method. This applies even for free apps; you cannot get them from the Japanese iTunes Store if you are in the US.
If you are in Japan, you can set up a new iTunes Store account just to get free apps. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
If you have moved to Japan and wish to change the country of your account permanently, you can contact the iTunes Store and ask them to clear your remaining balance. You will need to be able to provide a Japanese payment method, though.
    Regards.
