Everything I click on freezes!

I have a Pavilion p6210y PC.  On Sunday, my screen froze and left me no option but to turn off at case. It never booted properly again. I couldn't get into setup - would not boot from cd - occasionaly it began a CHKDSK, but never finished and froze. Since it wouldn't boot, assumed hard drive corrupted and replaced.  Full system restore done on new HDD running Windows 7 Home Premium.  All installed correctly, updates installed correctly, programs restored and in less than 24 hours same issues began. HDD light stays lit - no cycling sounds - all frozen - then it starts up again with a click - over and over. I can't run two processes at once - screen freezes & must turn off on case.  I managed to run HP Diagnostics Tools and all hardward passed - Motherboard, Processor, Memory, HDD, etc. Product no longer under warranty and Microsoft says not their issue - Windows 7 reinstall would have addressed any issues with software. HP tech says in his opinion I need to install an external Graphics card and disable one on motherboard. Computer is 18 months old. Card installed is NVIDIA GeForce 91000. There is no diagnostic tool on HP to check it  Has anyone else had this issue? Does this sound like the correct solution? I don't want to keep throwing money at this PC unless this sounds like a good solution.  Any help at all greatly appreciated!
Edit:  I am unable to download anything. In addition to the first post, I wanted to add that when I try to load IE or Google Chrome, I get a blank screen with "waiting for cache" along the bottom.  VERY SLOWLY the page loads. When it finishes, anything I click on freezes the page - not the mouse - just the page.  The mouse moves around, but anything I click on has no reaction.  Someone suggested that I have a really bad virus running in the background that is using up a huge percentage thus not allowing anything else to run, but I have not found anything.  However, as an experiment, since I had deleted the volume and reformatted the original HDD, I plugged it in, unplugged the new one, and tried a re-install of Windows 7.  It stalled at 8% and froze, so I think we can eliminate a virus.  Does this sound like a graphics card issue to anyone as HP tech suspects? I also got an error code after several restart attempts:  0xc00000e9 unexpected I/O error has occured. Anyone???

That computer has the infamous M2N78-LA motherboard. The NVidia controller is more than liklely overheating.
When it finally goes UP, it will jumps top booting.
PS> lengthy post has been made about the SATA and NVidia controller chip.

  • I want to open online files, not download everything I click.

This question applies to both Safari & Firefox.
I search for online files to help me with school, could be PDF, PowerPoint, etc.
When I click on a file it just downloads them. I want to open 1st and see if I even want the thing.
With Windows, it would open and save in a temporary folder and I could save the file if I liked it. With my new Mac, it's just saving everything I click on then I have to go delete it if I didn't like it.
Any settings to fix? Safari and Firefox doing this.
I do have MS Office for Mac so when I click on these Power Points I do have the right programs.
    Thanks in advance.

I tried the right click but it just opened a new window to save the file.
There has got to be a way to open the file online to a temp without saving it.
Just to clarify, with Windows if I found say a PDF I was interested in but not sure I wanted to download, my choices with Windows would be Open file using Adobe Reader or Save File.
I could open it without saving it, and if I didn't like the file it wouldn't be saved on my hard drive. (It would in a temp folder, but that got automatically deleted.)
With the Mac, I have to download everything I click on and then open the file and then if I don't like it, delete it.

  • G50-70: empty DVD-drive clicking and freezing other drives for about 30 seconds all the time

Hello board. Big problem. Seem to be the only one having this after searching the board:
Brand new G50-70: When using OS from the SSD or using OS from the SSD and doing things with a USB-drive, the empty internal DVD-drive making clicking sound and sometimes freezing SSD read/write operation for about 30 seconds but all the time freezing USB-storage read/write operation for about 30 seconds.
When freezing there's always clicking. But when clicking there's not always freezing except when using USB-storage.
    OS is Win81-64.
An example scenario: connect USB stick, open terminal, type diskpart, dvd-drive clicks and freezes opening of diskpart for about 30 seconds, then the same may or may not happen when entering commands like clear the stick and format the stick.
Any clues, why I have this issue? Thank you very much for reading.
    Solved!

    hi georg43,
it's possible that there's a software running on startup that's accessing the ODD when the machine is being used (especially if the ODD LED blinks when it's being accessed)..
To check, you can perform a clean boot to temporarily disable apps & services running on startup. If the machine functions properly on a clean boot, you will need to enable the startup services/programs that you have disabled in groups of two or three (trial and error) to find the culprit. You can start by enabling the lenovo services and apps first followed by the Intel ones and observe.
In addition, you can also try to disable the DVD-drive under device manager and observe.

I''m new to Mac, how do I install Adobe CD? I put it in the CD drive and get a menu, everything I click on goes nowhere. In Microsoft, I installed many programs with no problem

Is the Adobe CD a MAC app ?
If it is a program for Windows you will not be able to install it.
If you nedd that program you can either buy the equivalent for Mac or install a way to run Windows under Mac (may be a cheaper solution)

  • Macbook pro late 2011, completely messed up, everything I click it brings up beachball very slow, blue ray and hd unwatchable as it jerks. genius bar app didnt help at all, very disappointed, can some1 help me?

Macbook pro late 2011, completely messed up, a macbook pro of this year should not be operating like this, everything I click it brings up beachball very slow, blue ray and hd unwatchable as it jerks. genius bar app didnt help at all, very disappointed, can some1 help me?

You have a hardware problem. It is probably the hard drive is either to full, not enough free space, or it is starting to fail.
If you have an external drive connec that to the system and use the Recovery HD, Command + r keys at startup, to install a clean fresh copy of OS X Lion on the external then run the system from that. It will be slower but if you don't get the beachball then that is the sign your internal drive is on its way out or is filled up with files and not enough free space.

  • Everything I click on opens another tab

Everything I click on opens another tab, there is no other way to describe this major problem. And I mean everything you click on! I have restarted, reinstalled, ran in safe mode, disabled add on's ect......
I have been a loyal firefoxer for about 6 years and this makes me not want to continue......help.......!

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 19.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • What is the point of the Quicktime Player? Everything I click on in the player window prompts me to download iTunes.

What is the point of the Quicktime Player? Everything I click on in the player window prompts me to download iTunes.

Aaargh!! Me too - it's so annoying! Firefox has a downloads window as well - I just don't see the point of it. I didn't like it in Tiger either.
As a way to see the progress of downloads, it's fine, but it should at least close when all the downloads are finished, and completed downloads should not display.
Ideally it should look & work exactly like the Copy window in Finder - the one that comes up when you are copying or moving a large file or number of files from one folder to another.
Is there a hack that will make it work like that?

  • HD Clicking and Freezing

I know this has been discussed a million time but I still cannot find the info I need.
I've upgraded the HD on my MacBook Pro to a Seagate 500GB 7200 rpm (ST9500420AS) drive and it's won't stop clicking and freezing every few minutes. I know that Apple released some kind of upgrade to address this problem but when I tried to run it (after downloading it directly from the site) it says that there's nothing to do (I'm assuming its because I am not using an OEM drive?)
Anyone managed to resolve this issue?
    Thanks

You might want to run S.M.A.R.T. Utility to be sure there's not a problem with the drive itself:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
You can download the demo and run it several times for free.
Even though you seem to have the drive without the G-Force technology, you might try disabling Apple's Sudden Motion sensor to see if this makes a difference.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1934
If it does make a difference, it may be that your drive actually has the G-Force technology, even though it isn't supposed to.
    Good luck!

  • Folder icon, whirring sound, clicking noise, freezes, freezes itunes....

okay...my ipod (with the click wheel) is definitely messed up. a few months ago i accidentally dropped it, and it started having a sad face and then the folder icon. i took it to an apple store and they restored it for me. it started working fine and everything was hunky-dory...until a few weeks ago it happened again, except i didn't drop it this time! (i think it just did it to mess with me or something)...so anyways...i've tried all the stuff i can think of: recharging, resets, disk mode...but nothing seems to work! and don't tell me to hook it up to my computer because everytime i do that and try to open itunes, it freezes!!! so i can't even restore it...and when i try to go through "my computer" and click on the usb port for the ipod, it freezes...so i'm starting to think all is lost...and a new ipod is starting to sound pretty good, but i'm hoping i can save my $300 and fix this one....can anyone help me???

  • Whenever I try to run 2-3 programs my computer stars clicking and freezing

I have a fairly new iMac G5, not the new iMac with front row and the camera. So whenever I try to use, for instance itunes, safari and ichat it will start to freeze then make this weird clicking noise and then unfreeze. Then a minute or so later it will freeze when I click on another web site or try to change the song or something. The computer has 1GB of ram a 250GB hard drive and a 2GHz processer. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please tell me. I would rather not go to the apple store.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1Gb ram 250Gb HD 2Ghz

I would suggest two things. First, download a utility like Cocktail, and run all the scripts.
Then download the Combo update and apply it over the delta that most users download through software update.
Then repair permissions in Cocktail again.
Hopefully that is all it takes, but be sure to post back here if it does not.
