Everything I try to re-install my macbook pro fails
Today I was working on my Macbook pro 15" (Intel Core i7, 2011 model)
and suddenly the whole thing froze, no mouse movement, no nothing.
I rebooted, after pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
On boot, when the blue screen shows up it doesn't turn into that darker shade before going to the log in screen,
I had to press the power button again for 10 seconds and try to boot again.
It worked, but suddenly a while after login it froze again.
I thought it was because of Chrome, found some topics about it, so tried to back up my bookmarks and it froze again.
After installing Firefox and deleting Chrome it all seemed fine.
Now, because I was considering to do a clean install anyway and wasn't sure if I'd better run the time machine and return the system to when I bought the computer, the system froze again on entering Time Machine... great...
I tried another time, maybe it would work, but no... nothing but a freeze...
I checked for the necessary info to do a clean install and set the whole system back to factory settings.
Starting from scratch seemed not too bad, just for my personal feeling to start off with a clean running machine.
I inserted the DVD, chose for the restart option.
On reboot the DVD starts spinning (DVD and drive are in good shape, double checked this) and then again when the blue screen appears after the grey screen with logo, the system stops and I can't install the DVD which came with my macbook pro.
I tried several times but no succes, even installing the OS normally without erasing the disk, makes the system stop when the blue screen appears after the logo.
My system runs, but I am not feeling comfortable with it and just want to have a clean install now and get working again.
I hope someone can come up with a smooth sollution, this is the worse situation I ever had with my mac since I bought it, I'm surprised things could get this messy.
Thanks in advance!
Try this with your installer DVD:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
logo appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

Hi, I want to do a clean re-installation of my end 2011 Macbook Pro which comes with pre-installed Lion OS. I go through the installation steps and after App Store verified my Apple ID, it prompted me that I did not purchase the Lion OS. I am very surprise to see this message which my pre-installed Lion Macbook Pro should have it. Please help and advise how can I get the OS? All other bundle softwares were in the purchase record except the Lion OS.
That was my mistake - sorry - it IS Command-R to boot to the Recovery disk, not Command-D: I either just hit the wrong key or am just now coming awake from my nap.
Let me see if I can just explain it in a few steps - I don't know of any link (but it would make a good User Tip):
Create an up-to-the minute back-up of your internal hard drive using an external hard drive and Time Machine.
Boot to your recovery partion - holding down Command-R on boot.
Use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD - use one GUID partition and format as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Unless you're selling the machine, there's no need to do a secure erase (which can take hours).
After you erase the disk, re-install Lion from the same Recovery partition.
After installation is complete, reboot, again holding down the Command-R keys to boot into the Recovery Partition.
Restore your Time Machine back-up. This could take several hours.
Reboot after restore and you're back in business.
That should take care of everything - all you need is an Internet connection.
Call back if I didn't explain things too well - at least I got the Command-R right this time!

OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 can't be installed on MacBook Pro retina late 2013
OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 can't be installed on MacBook Pro retina late 2013
OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 installer is available in the App Store but it can't be downloaded because "OS X Mavericks can't be installed on this computer".
If the installer of version 10.9 is already in the application folder it can't be updated for the same reason.
I've seen that they are two versions of the updater that are downloadable from apple's website and one is specific for the MacBook Pro retina late 2013.
I suspect that the installer in the App Store is not an universal installer. It is stupid because you can't reinstall that Mac is needed.
I phoned to Apple (AppleCare) and they don't know why this happens.Hello,
Try to boot the 15" MBPr as target when connected to your MBA (if you have the right cables and adapters).
From the MBA, install on the 15" MBPr's disk, in that order :
The 10.9.1 update for Mavericks except MBPr
Download
and then the 10.9.1 update for Mavericks specific for MBPr
Download
The MBPr should be bootable again. I did it for an external HD.
Hope this helps.
Best,

How do I download and install on MacBook Pro. Installed once on my PC desktop but now have new Macbook Pro with no disc drives.
What version are you talking about and have you got the serial number?
If you want to install version 11 then you can download from Adobe website and use your serial number to activate it. The only problem I can see is that your serial number might be for a windows system and I don't know if it would work on a Mac. However, it is worth a try.
You are allowed 2 installations simultaneously so you should be OK in this respect.
The download link is here:

Make sure you use the MAC to download it so that you get the correct version for it. -
SSD Install Experiences MacBook Pro 2011 i7
This is a report on the beastie that I installed in my MacBook Pro 2011:
http://thranblog.info/post/8615912997/ssd-install-experiences-macbook-pro-2011-i 7The fan normally runs at about 2000rpms - if they're loud enough to actually hear, you might have a problem. Mine can rev up to about 4000rpms sometimes and I'll hear them then, but it's nothing consistent.
To see how fast your fans are running, download the free iStat Pro widget. If they're running abnormally fast, you could try a SMC reset to see if that will help.
I would also uninstall VirusBarrier - your really don't need av software on a Mac but if you feel as if you must have something, try the free ClamXav and/or Sophos for Mac (both recommended by our resident malware/virus guru, Thomas Reed).
Good luck,

Every time I try to back up my Macbook Pro with an external hard drive using Time Machine, I receive the error of "the disk does not have enough space". I have a 500GB external hard drive and only 120GB Macbook. It worked fine before the latest Maverick's update. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My guess would be it has created an entirely new backup of your drive when you upgraded to Mavericks.

Peruse the whole site. There is a lot of information there. -
What is largest solid state drive I can install in MacBook Pro 8,2? I want to perform a clean install of Mavricks and dump my old hard drive.
If the bank account permits, I suggest getting a 1 TB SSD anyway. One cannot have too much storage.
Unless you are having issues with your current installation, a 'clean' install is not necessary. It would be more efficient to clone your current drive to the new SSD, test it, and then do the swap. The installation of Mavericks over Snow Leopard can be done either before or after the cloning process.

After Mountain Lion install, my MacBook Pro's fan is running non-stop.
After Mountain Lion install, my MacBook Pro's fan is running non-stop and you can hear the insides working extra hard. Is this normal? It's very loud and annoying?

Will icloud install on macbook pro with os 10.6.8
Will icloud install on macbook pro with OS 10.6.8?
Welcome to the Apple community.
iCloud is not an application you can download and install independently. It is part of the OS X 10.7.2 operating system. So in essence no you cannot use iCloud with OS X 10.6.8 on your Mac. -
HT2470 Can Internet explorer be installed in Macbook pro
1.Can Internet explorer be installed in Macbook pro?
2.Can I have dual boot in my Macbook pro - with Mac and Windows ??No, unless you install Windows, which you can certainly do. Boot Camp allows you to install any number of different operating systems.
If you're trying to use a website that refuses to load because it demands Internet Exploder, I suggest enabling the Develop menu in Safari's Preferences, and selecting a User Agent that placates the website. -
Firefox 12 just installed on MacBook Pro, OSX 106.8. FF looks great, seems faster also. BUT, on tab menu, the small triangle (to list the tab info) is missing; I can't find a way to reinstall it using the View->Toolbars->Customise option. Can you help?
You will only see the "List All Tabs" button in Firefox 12+ if there are that many tabs open that you get the Tab bar scroll buttons appearing.
