Everything is SLOWW after 10.4.4 upgrade...
Posting this from the wifes G3 iBook because my Mac Mini is almost unusable on the internet. I upgraded to 10.4.4 (but my wife is still using .4.3)and that's when I started to notice some problems...At least I think it's when. I have tried using both Firefox 1.5 and whatever the newest version of Safari for 10.4.4 is. They both take forever to load a page. Especially if that page has anything complex on it like some google ads or lots of pictures. I have Comcast. Linksys modem. The newest version of the modem. Not sure on the firmware. I don't know how to connect to it and find out. My wife see's downloads in excess of 300KB/sec, while mine is poking along at barely 10KB/sec in Safari and about 20KB/sec in Firefox. I have cleared the cache, reset safari, repaired permisions and nothing speeds it up. It has also taken to start crashing when I load a movie in the browser. However I just added the new version of WMP that plays movies using Quicktime (yes, you read that right. Microsoft has just annonced it, and I downloaded it from the Microsoft site.) I just tried to access the iTunes Music store, to buy an episode of a TV show, and it's not even letting me into my cart to purchase. And it takes about twice to three times as long to even load the music store in the first place.
Please help! I hate not being able to use my Mac and having to use my nasty XP box!!
So I just finished reinstalling my os. Upon first impresions, it was very quick on the downloads. I ran Software Update, got everything it showed except 10.4.4 (as I was thinking that was the problem) and was showing download speeds of over 300KB/Sec. Then, I restarted the computer (as I had no choice after running Software Update) and grabbed the 10.4.3 combo update off Apple.com. Installed it, then had to reboot. Right away after rebooting, my airport isn't picking up the access point signal. It's in the same room about 15 feet away. I tried and tried to imput a password (WEP) but it kept saying, unable to connect. I looked at the password from a different machine on the airport express just to make sure I had the right one. I did. Restarted the mini. Airport came up just fine. I have reconfigured the order in which the machine tries to connect to the internet (as had been suggested on these forums) making sure that I unchecked the ones I didn't want it to use (these include modem, firewire, and bluetooth.) Now I start to surf, and imediatly, my speed is SLOOOOWWW. I check the Activity monitor and I'm getting peaks of 40-50KB/sec, and average of 15-20KB/sec. I just don't understand. I haven't installed ONE piece of non apple software on this machine. It's a BRAND NEW INSTALL. Any thoughts?

Printer connected to Airport Express USB port won't come online after firmware 7.6 upgrade. I've tried backing up to 7.5.2, but it still shows offline. It is a Canon iP4600 printer and I'm running OS 10.6.8. I've powered everything down and still no go. I've connected the printer directly to my MacBook's USB port and it works fine. Any suggestions?
I have an iP4500, which I assume is quite similar to your model.
I had to reset the printing system to get things printing again. Only takes a few minutes and no problems at all since I did it a week ago or so.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Express and restart the printer.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Print and Fax
Right-Click in the printer area on the left and select Reset Printing System
Then click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to install the printer again. -
Only "Headphones" sound, no speaker sound after 4.2.1 upgrading
After I had finished upgrading 4.2.1 firmware for my iPad, the speaker's sound has gone.
I can hear the sound from my iPad only when I connected to any headphones or bluetooth devices.
I tried many methods to get the sound back, starting from:
1. trying to plug in and out my headphone - nothing changed
2. switch on and off from the mute button (former is lock button) but it only showed "Headphones" or "Mute" sign.
3. shut down and turn on my iPad - nothing changed
4. Hard Reset my iPad and Restore - Still no sound, but I had to re-install everything again
5. Ask everyone and search every "no sound from iPad" topics but found none like mine.
However, while I upgraded the firmware, I noticed that I "locked" the screen during the process and I heard someone in the internet told me that it might be the origin of my problem.
I tried to sync my iPad and find how to re-upgrading the firmware again with no "locked" the button but there is no way to.I've been having this problem for several months and just found this thread. Unfortunately the solution isn't well spelled out, but I was able to resolve the issue.
To recap:
Problem: Many/most non-Apple Apps have no sound from the iPad internal speaker. Plugging headphones in provides sound from all apps. Apple Apps (youtube, music, video, safari, etc) continue to function and play sound out of internal speakers normally.
Resolution: This issue appears to be related to the 'mute' / screen orientation lock button. If your iPad mute switch was on mute when you switched it to orientation lock, 3rd party apps will remain muted via internal speakers no matter what you do. Luckily an easy fix: Go Settings -> General and switch from 'lock rotation' to mute. Slide the switch to the non-muted position. You can now switch back to 'lock rotation' and your apps will play sound from the internal speaker again!!! -

I almost did everything including cleaning the caches, strartup items, disk verify, disk repair, permissions etc.
Almost 70% of my harddisk is free.
I reported to the Apple support guys and the reply what I got was "Generally this will happen during software upgrades".
This was a disgusting reply.
Apple support is POOR.
Recently I moved to MAC OS X from linux thinking that it will be more robust.
Ubuntu (Linux) is taking less than 10 sec to boot on my dell and I did not face any problem with it till now.
Because of track pad guestures only I moved to OS X. May be I made a mistake.
Please help me if any one has faced this type of problem.

After iOS8.1.3 upgrade on 5c lost cell service (works sporadically). WiFi works fine, all other phone functions work fine. Replaced SIM at Verizon store, updated carrier settings, did a factory reset, and nothing works. About 20% of the day I will get service while sitting in a high-coverage area. If
I restart the phone several times, sometimes it re-syncs to the network.
Prior to iOS 8.1.3 upgrade, phone was working fine, no signal/service issues. I am not 100% sure what version of iOS and carrier I was running prior to the upgrade (Verizon 18.0? and iOS 8.0?). I have found no way to roll-back to the prior (working) version of iOS that I was running.
This is an issue somewhere between Apple and Verizon, so I have found it frustrating to resolve. I have spent ~2.5 hrs over 3 support sessions with Verizon. Have no submitted ticket to Apple support. Seems like others have had similar issues – but not a common issue.
Let me know if you have suggestions while waiting for Apple to help.

JohnCouple things you can try, Reinsert the sim and power cycle the iPad. Also go to settings>general>reset then select reset subsciber services then attempt to log in to your verizon account, lastly reset network settings and see if that helps. If none of the above help, i would take to apple retail store to have serviced or replaced or contact verizon to make sure everything is good on there end as well.

FCE doesn't see camera after 10.4.3 upgrade
Here I Go Again...a few weeks ago, I got on a discussion thread about difficulties I was having getting Final Cut Express HD to see my Canon Optura camera. After a bit of back-and-forth with Tom Wolsky, he clarified what my problem was, and I subsequently obtained an additional FireWire PCI card, which I attached my two LaCie drives and a DV converter to while having the camera connected to the system's FireWire port. Everything worked fine after that. Well, yesterday I upgraded (my Quicksilver dual G4) to 10.4.3 and Final Cut can't see the camera under any circumstances. (iMovie still allows me to switch freely between the camera and the converter) I removed Final Cut app, preferences and User Data folder, restarted from system disk and ran permissions verifications, reinstalled FCE, removed the drives and the converter with the camera alone connected to system's firewire and then the PCI card, and...nothing. I have been unable to use Final Cut since I got it, I end up doing all my work in iMovie and I'm about ready to cry. What am I missing? HELP!!!
Normally when going to a new operating system such as from Panther to Tiger it's a good idea to do a clean wipe of the hard drive and install.
There is a problem with QuickTime 7 in this upgrade path. There was a sticky at the top of old forum that explained the problem and the solution. Unfortunately it's gone in the new forum.

Elements 10 does not after installing Mountain Lion upgrade
Upgraded my MacbookPro recently. I saw previous answer to margiemzzz on Sept 4, but I cannot find (don't know where to look) for (username>library>preferences) or the items to delete. Please help.

Reinstalling doesn't delete the preferences and it's very important in lion and mountain lion to remove the prefs after a major version upgrade, like 10.6 to 10.7 or 10.7 to 10.8.
Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 settings
and any lockfiles with the same names.
That library is hidden in 10.8. To see it, in the finder click the Go menu and hold down the option key. It will appear below the little house for your user account. While you're in there go to the Saved Application States folder and delete everything for PSE.
It wouldn't hurt to repair permissions, either.

ICal won't launch after 10.5.2 upgrade
my iCal won't launch after 10.5.2 upgrade. it won't even give an "unexpectedly quit" message, it pops up then quits, then nothing. This happened immediately after the upgrade today. I got the leopard disc out and did an archive and install then it worked perfect, no issues, then I did a software update (since I was back to 10.5.0), and installed the 10.5.2 security upgrade, now iCal will not launch, am I the only one with this problem?
I had the exact same problem -- doubled events and could not edit anything. I flushed the cache as describe in some more detail here: http://www.tipstrs.com/tip/2506/iCal-problem-with-Leopard-Upgrade and everything started working just fine.

Vlan stopped working after Solaris 11.1 upgrade
Sorry for the long post.
I upgraded a test server to Solaris 11.1 from 11/11 a few days ago. After I did the upgrade my one VLAN-based network connection stopped working. I've been messing with it for days and am a bit baffled.
Note that everything was up and working just before the upgrade. This is not a switch configuration problem or a cables issue.
All of the other networking survived the upgrade just fine...
The link that stopped working is a VLAN running on top of a two-link LAG. The untagged link running over the same LAG works just fine.
So here's the strange part. As I was trying to get underneath it all today I fired up wireshark to see if I could figure it out. As soon as I put wireshark up on the interface (in its default promiscuous mode) the link started working. All the packets in the trace looked normal. All was good. As soon as I stopped the trace the link was dead again. Start a trace - link in promiscuous mode - and all is good again. Stop and it stops...
If I bring bring up wireshark on the link without promiscuous mode the link does NOT start working. If I initiate a ping that should go out on the broken VLAN I see a series of ARP requests but no answers (running wireshark on the machine being ping'd I see all of the ARP request come in and the answers go out, but the Solaris machine never sees the answers).
So - did Oracle manage to break VLANs in 11.1? Any ideas how to get it working again?

Edit/Delete MessageFixed. Don't know exactly how/why, but fixed.
When I came home this afternoon I deleted the all of the IPs associated with the VLAN and the LAG. I deleted the VLAN itself and deleted the LAG. Basically tore down all of the datalink and IP layers leaving only the raw interface cards. Rebuilt the LAG, rebuilt the VLAN and reinstalled the IPs. And like magic, the whole thing is happy.
Something in the configs of the LAG or the VLAN must have been corrupted during the upgrade. But now its all fat, dumb and happy again.

after ios 6.0 upgrade i cannot retrive my emails it says " the mail server .................is not responding. Verify you have entered the correct account info in mail settings."
but they havnt changed.I get the same problem. My settings haven't changed, etc., all imported across from my old iPhone 3 that worked fine. I've double-checked everything. I've even deleted the account and re-established it. Still doesn't work. My e'mail provider says that it's not them as all my settings are correct, and I can connect ok via webmail on safari, so it's not them but Apple, which sounds believable. Can't find a solution.

After ios 8 update has anyones ipad started randomly selecting everything? Even after ios 8.0.1 update it has still continued to do the same thing making it immpossible to use ipad anymore. Has anyone had the same problem and/or knows how to fix this?
Try a Reboot pess & hold power button & menu button hold both down until you see Apple Logo you will not lose any data This may help but the ipad 2 is a bit under powered for iOS 8 If you can a very good buy now is the iPad Air 32G Since they brought the new one out the price for this model Has come down by £120.00 That's the one I am using and it works great on iOS 8.1 Bsydd uk

I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?
I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.

ipad 4 retina display is slow after iOS 8, also upgrade to iOS 8.0.1 i think and safari is slow, animations are slow, and i can't restore it to iOS 7, there it was great. i mean its like my iphone 4 with iOS 7 in its best days. i hope no to get stuck again, i mean please let me go to the iOS 7)).
Upgraded my ipad4 from ios6 to iOS 8 because the new WSJ app required it. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!! I can maybe understand some apps being slower but not Safari or Chrome. Apple must be throttling back the ipad4 processor even more with ios8 to force an upgrade to the next gen iPad whenever it arrives.
