Everything on iPhoto working fine except...

I have a Dual 1.4 G4, 2GB RAM, running OS X 10.4.4
I have used every version of iPhoto to date, but now when I scroll through my library of about 3500 photos it stops and spends about a minute grinding through my drive. When it gets to my older photos that are less than 1MB its fast, but I about 400 new photos that are around 2MB and that is about where it slows down.
All other applications are running as fast as they normally do.
Anybody else run into this?

I haven't had a chance to play with 6 yet -- it's on my desk at home waiting for me to get a chance to install, but with earlier versions, I found that it would take some time for iPhoto to create thumbnails of all the photos if I imported a huge batch of large photos all at once. By some time, I mean up to several hours of "chugging" -- lots of processor and disc activity. My understanding is that (at least prior versions of) iPhoto keep 3 different-sized thumbnails for each photo (which is what enables you to change the scale of the thumbs in the browse mode -- it interpolates between two thumbnails to give you what looks like quick, continuous sizing.
What I'm suggesting is that perhaps you want to let it churn away on your files for a while. I open the process monitor and watch the CPU activity too. You might find that iPhoto just has some work to do to create a whole mess of thumbnails, and once that activity is over, the disc activity will stop, and activity will once again be fast.
Good luck!
