Everything pre-set to PAL, camera is PAL but sequence is NTSC. How did that

Hello,
I have a PAL camera (Panasonic HDC-SD100) and FCE is set up to run PAL. Going through my sequence settings after the edit I find that the sequence is set to NTSC. How on earth did that happen and what should I do now? The video is already edited.

Send the clip and sequence settings so we can see if there is something wrong.
Also, exactly how are you exporting and what for (DVD, web etc.)?
You are obviously doing something wrong but unless you give us full details of what you are doing there is no way we can begin to guess what it might be.
Bleeping audio is usually a sign that it is an incompatible format that will need rendering . . . . obviously not captured from the camera.

same thing is happening to me. each time i tried activating imessage it would display the error message. i contacted apple support and IMed them. One thing that they said was to got to settigns and "reset all settings". no data from your phone should be lost (I'm quite sure it even tells you this when you press the button). It will then say "waiting for activation" and then they said give it 24 hours, leaving the phone on, to see if it works. since i reset it it now says "waiting for activation" but has not yet activated.

This is only part of my problem.
My computer came with Lion but no install disks, I would love to have a disaster recovery DVD just in case, The is the LionDiskMaker script that says it would do it for Lion and Mountain Lion but when I tried, It did not find what it needed to create such a DVD.
On the other hand, when I replace my MacBookPro last october, the lady at the Apple Store online used my gmail adress instead of my videotron.ca adress... So now, I have a dual identity, one that owns a MacBookPro and the other that has done business with Apple for ages.
So :
1. Can I unify my 2 Apple ID ??
2. Can I get a kind of installer of Lion without paying the price ??

You need to download and save the Lion and/or Mountain Lion installer app.
Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
Unfortunately, the link for getting specific hardware versions has disappeared. So basically:
Get yourself a spare hard drive freshly erased or with a freshly erased partition of around 8 GBs or more.
Boot to your Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion from the main menu.
From the beginning screen select your spare partition/drive as the target destination then begin the download.
At the end of the download you will observe an Install button for you to click. Now this is important - as soon as that gadget appears you must abort the installation process. There are only two reliable ways to do this quickly: a. yank the cable for the drive from the computer; b. pull the power on the computer - shut it down quickly.
This will result in your finding a folder on the drive that contains InstallESD.dmg that you can now use to create a bootable USB flash drive installer based on the special build for your model. Use it until the next public release of Lion appears or you move on to Mountain Lion.
If you do not stop the download process immediately upon its completion you will end up with an installer that always boots to a non-functioning installation progress window instead of the normal main menu.

in Pal land you will always consider 25 or 50.
In US they have to deal with a variety of frame rate depending on how the video was shot and on the delivery format (24p, 30p, 60i>TV standard: 59.94>29.97, etc.)
Yes, 1080/50 is going to be your easy setup.

Try restarting the Apple TV, router and computer or de/re-authorising your computer

Has anyone set the SGE2000 to use something other than VLAN1 and how did you do it.

The SGE2000 uses VLAN1 for SNMP Management traffic by default. I tried to change to VLAN 2 by setting up an Access profile that set SNMP to VLAN 2 but it did not work. I am using the latest firmware.

Indeed this is the best option, to reserve the default (management) VLAN for what it is intended for ... management and set your clients to use another VLAN. I'm not sure if it is possible to separate SNMP traffic on a Windows XP machine and send that over the management VLAN, however, what you could do, is enable inter-vlan routing (either on the router, or set the switch to L3) and create an access-list that only allows the snmp traffic to be routed to and from the management VLAN.
This way you can keep your SNMP server in the management VLAN.
Wouldn't that be an option ?

B. Home made DVDs (without copy protection)
NTSC ---> PAL.
• Most often not necessary - Most stand alone PAL-DVD players playback NTSC
(if TV is old in BL/W)
PAL ---> NTSC.
• If played on Mac - not necessary AT ALL
• If on NTSC-DVD-player - CONVERSION IS NEEDED - nearly no Stand alone NTSC-DVD-players
playback PAL at all.
To do this You need to conver the PAL DVD to streaming.DV
• I use Roxio Toast™ to do this (There are no free converter)
• MPEG Streamclip (free on internet) to convert to NTSC
• Set up an NTSC project (29.97fps or 30) in iDVD and import then burn
I burn to
• Verbatim DVD-R
• Set down burn speed in iDVD to x1 or x4 recommended by many
• Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk before burning (IMPORTANT)

How can I format idvd to correctly format hd video for tv screen. My dvds are overscanning the screens on different dvd players. Would also like to know how really to use files in dvd studio pro on my old g5 d desktop. If you add the video clips to an iDVD slideshow and set the preferences to Scale photos to TV Safe area you can get rid of the overflow. However, you may experience letterboxing of the clips:

Is the kit fully inserted, and which part of the kit are you using, the SD reader or the cable to camera ? If the SD reader, then how did the photos get on the card - if you copied them on from your computer then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.
If you are connecting direct to the camera then does your camera have a menu setting for 'Photo Transfer Protocol' (PTP) and/or Mass Storage Device ?

Determining camera pre-set settings in each photo?

Is there a way to see the camera pre-set settings (eg auto, portorait, night, children, etc etc) that are available on most DLSRs? I can see the "file properties" and "metadata" to see fstop / shutter etc, but not which setting was used.

I think most cameras just call this an auto mode as the camera determines specific aperature, focal area, color mode, shutter settings, etc..
All the data should be in the metadata file.

Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

I am new to Mac/Aperture2 and have tried a search, but would like to know what picture style Aperture assumes when adding pre-set adjustments to RAW conversions. The results look excellent, but I use Natural and the Camera's(Canon 1DMkIIN) default setting is Standard.Is the Picture Style set hidden in the Metadata? Thanks

in-camera sharpening does not affect raw files. aperture applies some sort of sharpening to raw files by default, but on jpegs this doesn't happen.

PAL DVD footage to NTSC

Hi all,
I've got a client with DVD footage from Lithuania, all regions enabled, but in the PAL video format. They have asked that I rip the video and audio so they can upload portions of it to their website. The client has the copyright and everything, but I'm really lost as how to get this into FCP and output it as NTSC. When importing from DVD to FCP in the past I have connected the DVD player to the computer through firewire and set it as a non-controllable device. Rough, but it works. However when I try that with the PAL footage, it is unable to recognize the video. I've changed the input to PAL, so I don't believe it is that.
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm pretty lost at this point! Thanks!

If its only for the web, there is no need to convert to NTSC. The computer will play it back regardless of the local TV standard. You can make the whole thing in PAL unless you have to mix NTSC footage with it.
To extract the DVD to an editable format, use [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.ssquared5.com]
If you must convert to NTSC, [JES Deinterlacer|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/jesdeinterlacer.html] will give good results. Conversion will take a while, be patient.

Photoshop Stills causing PAL to change to NTSC

I was about to call for help because a project with some Photoshop stills (nothing else) was causing my FCE to switch from 25 frames per second (I am set on PAL) to the 30 fps of NTS. This temporarily infected any other (PAL) project loaded into FCE at the same time which returned to normal when the stills project was closed. When creating a QT movie (and after accepting a dialogue box's offer to convert from NTSAC to PAL!), the result was very jerky.
However, after much experimenting, and remembering something that I had read about Photoshop files causing trouble, I converted them to JPGs and loaded them into a fresh project, and all is well.
If PSd images do cause trouble for FCE, I wonder why Apple has not cured the problem, especially as the FCE manual states that layered PSD files will go into the timeline as one track per layer, and states on page 209:
"If you want to import a layered Photoshop file as a single clip, you must flatten the image in Photoshop, then import the file into Final Cut Express HD." That is exactly what I did!

I had this problem, regularly, in FCE HD 3.0.1 in PAL sequences: whenever I imported .psd with transparencies everything seemed OK until I saved the project. When trying to open it again I got an error message saying the project was corrupt. If I was lucky I could find a copy of the project (auto)saved before importing the .psd. But the last version was lost forever.
Now I tried the same import in a test project in FCE 3.5 and that specific test worked. But it was not a "real life" project.
I'm wondering here if anybody that had this problem in 3.0 now can confirm my results.
