Everything seems to be dying at once, please help!
I'm submitting this inquiry via my iPad because it's become near impossible to do anything on my MacBook Pro. My laptop's always been a bit of a lemon, with problems ranging from disappearing files to the hard drive dying 6 months after I bought it. But now (probably because the warranty expired last week and the universe hates me) it seems everything bad that can happen to a laptop is happening all at once. It alternates between frozen and unresponsive to working normally every 30 seconds, the speakers make whining/screeching noises, all my files are either corrupted or gone and the screen flashes up what I affectionately like to call "neon pixel vomit", rainbow pixellated lines and splotches.
It's always had problems with overheating and crashing but now it stays cool. I did a complete virus scan shortly before the problems started but it came back clean. No new programs. No drops, bumps or spills.
Could anyone help me narrow down what the problem is? If so roughly how much would it cost to fix?
Please help me, I'm at my wits end.
Depending on the age your your MacBook Pro, you could always take it into an Apple Store, get a diagnosis and estimate for the machine to be repaired, and then ask about Apple's flat rate repair pricing. For less than $350, you could have a 'like new' computer.
I would ask about it - after you get your estimate - anyway.

If the problem continues take it to an Apple store and have them check it out.

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still does not connect to any network that indicates a hardware problem.
If you only can't connect to your network that indicates a problem with your network.

EUREKA, I found the solution to my problem in a Discussion initiated by gingertodd on July 27, 2011 entitled "Safari in Lion hijacked by malware." The solution was provided by Badunit who recommended force quitting Safari and then reopening it while holding down the Shift key. It worked instantly, and I subsequently was able to open Safari normally by just clicking on its icon in the Dock. THANK YOU BADUNIT!

As I've said, brand new iPod touch. I only synced it Friday night, put some music on it. This morning tried to connect to iTunes and got a message saying the pairing record was missing? Computer isn't recognising it either, but it charges off the computer just fine. Have tried everything including changing USB port, rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes twice, literally everything I've found on forums. Anyone help me out here? I'm so annoyed I could nearly cry.
Anyone able to help with this?

Please help me with my ipod. Ive been trying for so long to get it working( More than 4 Months) but with no luck.
The problems started when my friend asked me to plug his ipod into my computer to get my songs because his ipod wouldnt load songs from his computer. Well I tried that and it didnt work. Anyway, the next time I tried to update my ipod(which is an ipod mini 4th Gen, i think)it wouldnt update my songs and came up with numerous messages that said something about a corrupt file run chkdsk. Well I looked up what to do and I did run the chkdsk thingy and it said that it fixed a few files so I no longer get those messages. Despite the slight improvement Im still having problems. When my iPod is plugged into my computer it slows the computer right down until iTunes is automatically opened. The ipod then starts to update, but at an incredibly slow rate. It takes it about one hour to update 50 songs. In addition, the ipod gets super, super hot. Now im no computer genius, but i know the USB port that I use with the iPod is a 2.0 thingy so thats not the problem. I have also tried resetting the ipod by pressing the "menu" and "select" buttons on the ipod, as well as restoring it using the ipod updater. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes with no luck and even went back to itunes version 4.0. My ipod has the latest ipod software on it so thats not the problem either. There is one thing I have noticed about my ipod that is rater unusual: the circle (located in the top left-hand corner of the screen) with the arrows on it that rotates when updating keeps flashing on and off in non-regular intervals when updating. Sometimes that little icon wont even appear and its when that icon doesnt appear that the ipod doesnt get recognized by itunes and the computer sees it as a portable storage device and not an ipod.
I know thats alot of infomation to swallow but does anyone have any ideas what the **** is going on???
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Windows XPYou could try to format the iPod in Windows. It does the same thing as restoring and you would need to restore the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater) afterward. This can work when the iPod is recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked. Now select "format". When that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
You can also check the iPod's hard drive for errors using Windows ScanDisk.
Put the iPod into disk mode as previously mentioned. Go to "my computer" and right click on the iPod then select "properties", then "tools". Select the option to scan the disk for any errors.
To exit forced disk mode, reset the iPod.
If that doesn't work, then the iPod needs repair. (to be honest, I think it does) -
Tried to log into my FaceTime account, but keep on getting "password incorrect" message. Restarted iPad as suggested by posted comments but still no positive result. Tried alternative email accounts such as @me.com but also no positive result. Please help.
Well after two attempts at trying to repair Facetime and iMessage by restoring my iPad, I am still left with the same outcome, no Facetime or iMessage. What I think has happened is when I first set up my iPad I used a different password, now that i have changed my password and cannot remember the old one I cannot access eitehr application. Whast strange is that you would think that when changing my password it would change the password on all devices when doing the synch from iTunes. For some reason this has not happened and the old password is still intact in Facetime and iMessage. I even tried backing up twice, the first time from iCloud and secondly from my Mac but even this has not resolved the problem. I also set up my iPad as a "new" iPad and this also had no impact. still struggling to resolve this, would appreciate help if anyone out there has a solution or something else I can try. i have run out of ideas.

Help!! Everything seems to be dying!
It all started a month or so ago.. My computer just seems to be slowly dying. Firstly it was the CD drive, which no longer burns CD's, and not just in iTunes, it wont burn from finder either, it comes up with an error message saying "The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media".. Thing is, my powerbook used to burn disc's fine, and i havent changed the brand of discs and have tried different ones following this error. Secondly, my bluetooth is no longer recognised.. and it's built in,, so this was a bit puzzling, this all seems to have started after the installation of Leopard, which makes me wonder if its the cause of all these problems! Any help would be much appreciated, and ease my mind that im not going to lose my computer! Thanks!

Kernal Data Inpage Error, No Bootable Device, Critical Process Died AGAIN! Please help!
I bought this S55-A5295 in July 2013. It started to have problems in April 2014. After 3 months of Critical Process Died, No Bootable Device, and having it shut down multiple times a day, I eventually convince service to take accept it because when I tried to do the recovery, the hard drive was missing partitions needed. (My $30 to ship, despite under warranty)
I received it back late June. The factory replaced the faulty screen (a different problem), but did not replace the hard drive. They supposedly "fixed" it, and added the needed partitions, should I need to do recovery again. I know that the partition was added because when I got it back, instead of being like new out of the box and ready to use, I was locked out because it was set to administrator and there was no option to access it, so I had to use the partitioned info. and do ANOTHER reset after getting it back from them. Not great service all around.
Now the laptop is out of warranty and I've started having problems again.
Sept. 16 -- I had a Kernal Data Inpage Error. The laptop made a horrible sound and shut down. At the time there was a Toshiba Canvio Slim II external drive attached.
Sept. 18 -- EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD 0xc00000bb the boot configuration data for your PC is missing or containing errors.
Sept. 19 -- Kernal Data Inpage Error. At this point I had removed the external drive, in case that was the problem. It wasn't letting me remove it earlier in the week. I didn't use it much over the next week.
Sept. 27 -- No Bootable Device.
Sept. 30 -- Kernal Data Inpage Error (volmgrx.sys)
Then Critical Process Died -- 3 different times
Then it restarted itself once without an error code.
Today, Oct. 1, I installed updates from Toshiba, including one fpr HDD and I performed maintenance. I tried to do the hard drive check, but the tabs in the instructions on the computer don't actually exist.
The directions: go to Computer, Properties, Tools tab (can't find it) , so no Error Checking and Check.
However, I did find, under Performance information and Tools my computer's performance rating. The Primary Hard Disk data transfer rate is 5.9.
So far it hasn't shut down today and hopefully the updates have fixed any issues, but I want to be prepared if they don't.
Are these errors coming from my laptop's hard drive? Is there a way for me to actually check that? Are the errors somehow connected to my TOSHIBA external drive? I haven't connected the external drive since the errors started happening, but i will need to use it again at some point, I just wanted to make sure the laptop was okay first.
Also, I am still running Windows 8. That's what they reset it to at the factory, and last time the issues seemed to correspond to me upgrading to 8.1, so I am wary to end up with a $600 paper weight again.

What can I say? The gold-standard test for a software problem is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents.
I'm a Windows specialist. Can't troubleshoot hardware.

Since I upgraded to firefox 8, I get this error window that pops up says something about java. My tabs flicker or flash, the tabs will close and open in a new window then everything stops. Then firefox does not respond. When I get this error message, I have to close all tabs wait a few seconds then open it back up it will work for a little while and then do the same thing. I have disabled plug-ins that I do not use, I have cleared my cache and cookies, I am not happy at all with this new version. I waited a while before updating. The first time I was going to update, firefox would not let me keep my anti-virus plug-in. PLEASE HELP

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Have ticked " Sync only ticked songs and videos" but I Tunes is ignoring that and synching evrything leaving me no further capacity. Please help
Two points to consider:
You have to remember that when you see the option to Sync only ticked songs and videos, iTunes may already have gone past that part of the Sync process. So once you change the setting to Sync only ticked songs and videos, you may need to click on the Sync button in order for a second Sync to take place. On subsequent Syncs, you will not need to do this.
You have actually un-ticked some of the songs in your library, haven't you? -
